Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Hi, everyone, let's get rolling.

Cam Newton (Charlette)

Bill, Why do so many people keep comparing Tim Tebow to me? Quite frankly, that's like comparing Snookie to Halle Berry, to borrow a line from Charles Barkley.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

That was a great line last night. Best line of a great ESPN film.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

That was a great line last night. Best line of a great ESPN film.

Jay Cutler (Chicago)

Bill, Do you think Denver misses me yet?

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

On the field, sure. You're good.

John Elway (Denver)

Bill,Since it looks like the Bronco's chances of landing Andrew Luck are pretty slim, do you think the organization should target Landry Jones or Matt Barkley in this years draft, assuming Matt comes out?

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

Boy, lots of big wigs on here, today. I think Barkley may be taken in the top five, Jones in the top eight. So, if the Broncos keep winning they have to trade up. Of coruse, though, if they kepe winning, that would mean Tebow would continue to improve. Thus, that menas Denver could move forward with him.

Chris (Lees Summit, MO)

When are the Chiefs going to give Bowe a contract extension?

Bill Williamson
  (3:08 PM)

It's a good question. They have bene aggressive in giving gyys deals, but Bowe and Brandon Carr are free agents who haven't yet been addressed. I think they coul;d be on the way at some point. They need to keep those two guys.

Tim Tebow (Denver)

How many more good performances must I have before Elway and Fox have confidence in me?

Bill Williamson
  (3:10 PM)

The key is pocket passers and foot work. You got to get better in those areas.

Mike newyork [via mobile]

Is thursdays game a must win for the chargers to stay alive in the afc west?

Bill Williamson
  (3:11 PM)

Because the division is so bunched up, I don't think it is either a must-win for either team, but it will give the winner a nice boost to start the second half.

Big J (Sacramento, CA)

Bill, KC's offensive line is our biggest problem. They can't handle the big, physical D-lines, and Lilja and Weigman (as much as I appreciate those guys) are to small to get the job done. Why not give Rodney Hudson a look? Its a shame that Haley will not take out Weigman just to preserve his streak

Bill Williamson
  (3:13 PM)

I think Hudson could get a look down the road this season. The team thinks he has a bright future

Vijay (Nashville)

If the Broncos win at KC Sunday, will you consider them a real threat for the division title?

Bill Williamson
  (3:16 PM)

They would certainly be in the conversation.

steve (seattle)

Did Darrius Hayward-Bey, do something wrong? he didn't play much against Denver, Is he starting the game against San Diego? What should we expect to see from him

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

Jackson said he didn't do anything wrong, but that DHB and Kevin Boss didn't play because of the game plan. It will be very interesting to see if they big, their normal bigger role at San Diego Thursday. I thuink they need to.

michael (Pleasanton)

if the Raiders do make the playoffs do you think they could make a run?

Bill Williamson
  (3:20 PM)

If Palmer plays great and the defense finds a way to stop the big plays. Big ifs right now.

ryan (Michigan)

What's going on with Ryan Clady? He is seriously under performing this year. Also what is your overall impression of the Broncos o-line mid-way through the year. My impression is not so good.

Bill Williamson
  (3:24 PM)

Clady hasn't been great and he has struggled lately. But he is still is a good overall player. Kuper is very good (he basically shut down Suh), but Franklin, Beadles and Walton are youngsters whop are learning as they go. Overall, it is not a top line.

Phil W (Charleston, SC)

Do you think Albert Haynesworth will be talked about as a player for Denver to look at?

Bill Williamson
  (3:25 PM)

The Broncos have a need at the position, but I don't think Haynesworth is the right guy for a young team trying to move up.

Vijay (Nashville)

Why has the Broncos pass defense been so bad this season? Wasn't the improved pass rush with Miller supposed to help the defense improve over last season?

Bill Williamson
  (3:27 PM)

Miller and a helathy Dumervil will help, but the secondary is a weird mix of being a little too old and a little too young at the same time. It's still ana rea that needs to be upgraded.

Leland (Texas)

Do you see the chargers going after Bowe if he is a free agent?

Bill Williamson
  (3:29 PM)

He'd fit there, but he'd fit a lot of places, including Dnever. I don't think he will get to free agency, though.

Leland (Texas)

Does Norv-ember start Thursday?

Bill Williamson
  (3:30 PM)

It needs to for hsi shake.

Darrell (CA)

Do you think Eric Weddle will pick Carson Palmer off a lot tomorrow night?

Bill Williamson
  (3:31 PM)

Weddle has been an interception magent this season and Palmer has thrown six picks in 56 passes. Could be a perfect storm.

Pat (Manhattan, KS)

Now that teams will be better able to game plan for the Broncos "new" offense, do you still foresee Tebow and McGahee having the success they had last week?

Bill Williamson
  (3:37 PM)

It depends on how much it uses it Sunsay at Kansas City. But it will have to be careful. NFL defenses adjust to trends very quickly.

Leland (Texas)

Do you think the chargers start running more with River's and do you really think missing sproles is the reason a QB throws the most interceptions in his career?

Bill Williamson
  (3:39 PM)

They do miss Sproles, especially on bubble screen passes. But if they can keep Tolbert, Mathews and Brinkley healthy, they have a strong running attack that will be effective.

Stereo Hogzzzz (East Coast)

Do you see Haley in KC next year if they continue to falter??

Bill Williamson
  (3:41 PM)

What do you mean by falter? 2-6?Well, it depends on how much the Chiefs fight down the stretch. if they get blown out a bunch and don't compete, yeah, maybe. But I don't think Haley's team is done yet.

Mit (Wobet)

How do you feel about John Elway's comments on the Jim Rome show?

Bill Williamson
  (3:45 PM)

The week-to-week deal on Tebow?Well, a lot of players are week-to-week. But I think Tebow has, at least, two games left because the Broncos host the Jets next Thursday. A change likely would not be made on a short week.

AJ (Oakland)

Lost in the Denver debacle was Ford's game. Is he back to form?

Bill Williamson
  (3:47 PM)

He's a good player. He's a weapon. He needs to be a big part of the offense every week. It's time for Hue to figure out who his best receivers are and go with them. I'm sure forcing Housh into the mix is the answer.

Andy M (Lone Tree, CO)

Do you think Eddie Royal or Knowshon Moreno will be in orange and blue next year? I think Royal should be kept, Moreno is iffy but is still under contract next year (i think)

Bill Williamson
  (3:52 PM)

It depends on Royal. I think there is a shot. He does have value as he showed in Oakland. Yeah, Moreno is still unser contract. I'm not a Moreno guy. He has shown very little. The fact that McGahee is shining as the starter at 30, shows you where Moreno is. So far, he looks like just a backup. That is brutal for a third year player who was the No. 12 overall pick.

AJ (Oakland)

Is Matt Cassel the long term answer in KC?

Bill Williamson
  (3:55 PM)

I think he is solid and he works well with the offense. I think he canb be the answer for a couple of more years, at least. But he'll never be a top-five guy.

SDCharge (La Habra)

hey bill please answer this question since i took the time to type this with a broken hand...Bill, Whats your thoughts on the officiating this year? there have been some very questionable calls not only against the Chargers (Gates PI negating TD against Chiefs) but all around the league...I am starting to wonder why the league doesnt fine refs for horrible game changing, non challenge-able calls?? Makes sense if you ask me cause my team has been ripped off by these refs more than once

Bill Williamson
  (3:58 PM)

They have a tough job and I love the replay, but still, bad calls persist. The fine idea isn't bad. But I think they officials need to work 40 horus aweek, 12 months a year. Put them in the classroom all week.Take care of that wing.

Paul (Denver)

Do you agree that the Raiders were better with Campbell as they were a run first team (bully if you will) vs. with Palemer they seem to get pass happy?

Bill Williamson
  (3:59 PM)

Yes, they were prettty solid on offense with Cmapbell. They are our of sync right now. Not having McFadden doesn't help, though.

Josh (CO)

Does Terrell Davis have any shot of making the HOF?

Bill Williamson
  (4:00 PM)

It may take a while. Voters can't get over the fact that his career was short. But he was domikant, that's for sure.

Bill (Bellingham)

What are the odds Hue Jackson trades two 1st rounders for Ocho Cinco? I wish I was joking ...

Bill Williamson
  (4:01 PM)

I think you are joking. You have to be.

Bill Williamson
  (4:01 PM)

I think you are joking. You have to be.

Bill Williamson
  (4:02 PM)

Great hour, folks. Enjoy the Thursday nighter. We're back Thursday for the chat next week.
