Welcome to our Friday chat. Lot's to talk about, let's get to it.
Cal, how much of an impact will L Robinson have with Austin out?
I would think Robinson will have a major impact this week. He's going to start next to Dez Bryant at wide receiver, and the big thing with Robinson is quarterback Tony Romo trusts him.Robinson knows the offensive playbook and talks about being where you need to be on the field, more than any receiver on the team.
Slot WR cant really see J-Holley at slot Dez and LRob are more natural outside, and Kevin just cant seem to get it. Has Dwayne grasped the playbook more now that its been some weeks I think he's more built for slot, he's quick and has great hands you thoughts?
Harris has a sore hamstring and he's not going to play. Holley won't get a lot of snaps on Sunday vs. Buffalo, so forget Harris and Holley.Dez Bryant, Kevin Ogletree, Laurent Robinson and Jason Witten are the main receving threats on Sunday and from now on until Miles Austin returns.
What is the Best & the Worst Dallas Cowboys Team that you Have ever seen?
I've covered the team since 2006 and I would say the 2008 Cowboys are the worst team I covered. The best team was 2007. Funnny thing, the 2007 season didn't win a playoff game and the 2008 team got beat 44-6 in Philly with a chance to clinch a playoff berth.
do you think dallas will win over the bills & why did jerry jones fired chan diley.
I picked the Cowboys to win on Sunday, I'm just not a big believer in the Bills. Last week's game was a killer for the Bills. Buffalo has a strong run game and a good secondary and the offensive line does a nice job of protecting the quarterback. But I'm not a believer, maybe I'm still thinking this is the old Buffalo Bills from three years ago.Jerry Jones fired Chan Gailey because he got caught up in his aging stars were still good when Gailey was trying to tell him they were old. Jerry just didn't have a clear sense of where the franchise was at that time. Gailey knew, but he was at fault too. He didn't embrace the veterans and tried to treat everyone the same. It was a bad fit.
which rb is most likely to hit 100 yards this game? Do you think that team will be the winner? thanks
Good question, Trey.If Fred gets 100 I would say Buffalo wins no question, but I don't think that will happen on Sunday. The issue for me is not which running back gets to 100 yards, but which team forces the most turnovers. To me that's the key to the game.
Calvin you do a great job and love checking in on your twitter. If the cowboys don't make the playoffs this year does that spell the end of the Romo era?
Nope. But if I'm Jerry Jones, and I'm not, drafting a quarterback in the first round is a must for this team. Romo is a good quarterback but isn't consistent enough to be relied on to take a team to a Super Bowl. Time to invest in some quality talent at quarterback.
Hope I get on first.. Is Demarco #1 on the depth chart now or is felix gonna get the job back?
DeMarco is saying the right things that he thinks Felix Jones should be the lead back. That's fine. The reality is Murray should keep the No. 1 running back spot until further notice.
why do teens release players instead of trade them way for draft picks ? Why give away something for free when you can get something in return for it ? trade deadline should be moved to the halfway point not week 6. Like jimmy johnson did in the early ninety's trade old for new but you tell me if I'm wrong I don't think so but what is your opinion????
You can't trade something if you have no trade partner. The thing about trades is if you have a player in the last year of his contract, such as Tashard Choice, Bradie James and Martellus Bennett are, nobody is going to give you anything for them unless they have a dire need.In that case, play them as much as you can and if they fail during that proces, cut them. There are plenty of veteran players on the market right now nobody wants to mess with.
Hey CW,Kevin Ogletree has been horrible as our Kick Returner. Who would you like to see return kicks? Thanks
Vinnie, it's hard to say why this unit has struggled.Ogletree hasn't returns kicks since high school, so he might not be the best man for the job. Dez Bryant is perfect for the gig but he's struggled at it as well. So now we're left with DeMarco Murray, Dwayne Harris (who hasn't impressed anyone either and maybe Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. The whole unit hasn't performed well because of poor blocking and ineffective running during the returns. It's an area that needs improvement.
Bruce Carter how has his transition gone so far?
He earned about 11 snaps on Sunday and wasn't that bad. He's not afraid to get after the tacklers and he's pretty physical. With Sean Lee coming back this week, Carter might not get the same amount of snaps, but we'll see. He's getting more of the playbook to learn.
With the way our team is built should'nt Jerry sign a guy to just be the holder for kicks?
Romo is the holder. No problem.
Agree or Disagree: Easier said than done, but if Romo gets time to throw in the pocket like he did Sunday more frequently, the sky is the limit for this football team.
You can say that about every NFL team in the league. The key for Romo is the run game. If the run game opens gets four or five yards a carry, then you should really see Romo do his thing.
calvin what do you think the cowboys main draft concerns will be?
QB, DE, S, OLB
Given what Jerry said about Buehler today, has he played his last game as a Cowboy?
Yes, Jeff I would say he has. Buehler might be a little out of shape, but not to the point where it's something to worry about. If Buehler was out of shape, the Cowboys should have cut him.
C-Watt, who has the last say-so in roster decisions...JJ or JG?
A combination of both.
Even before Austin was injured, did it seem like Robinson was becoming Romo's go-to WR?
Defenses were taking Robinson and Bryant out of the game forcing Romo to look at Robinson. Here's the thing, Romo trusts Robinson. And Robinson knows the playbook better than Dez Bryant.
Is Tony Romo an elite Quarterback?
No. Take a team on a deep playoff run and then we'll put you in elite status. Romo is a good quarterback, probably better than what some fans give him credit for.
Does drafting a QB in next year's draft spell an end to the Romo era in the next few years?
The team won't cut Romo if it drafts a quarterback in 2012, because Romo's deal ends after the 2013 season. Drafting a quarterback puts some pressure on him to produce next year. He's had a pretty good few weeks though.
Will the run defense look more like the first four or the last four games? Also, will Liss and Hatch play more because Spears has seemed to revert back to his old "not getting off blocks" self again?
everybody played poorly against the run last week, but give the offenses credit for having some strong run games.
Why have't we seen much of Phillip Tanner? We have only two healthy RB's so wheres he been?
Tanner is the No. 2 back. He's not going anywhere and he's improving everyday in practice.
If the cowboys go for a qb in the first round who would you like to see get picked up? Is there anyone that would fit well in a trade situation?
I don't think a trade is the right move here for the Cowboys. If anything I think Jason Campbell will be available next year, maybe bring him in as a backup to Romo if Jon Kitna retires after the season. Campbell can compete with Stephen McGee and whoever you draft.Andrew Luck is out of the question now, he's going No. 1 or No. 2.It will be interesting to see if Landry Jones and Matt Barkley come out for the draft. Barkley, a USC guy, might be a perfect fit and I'm sure when the Cowboys visited SC in the spring to look at Tyron Smith, they asked questions about Barkley.
Calvin, Dez Bryant from all accounts hustles, works out hard and puts in the time in the weight room but on the football field he looks lost. any ideas on what is going on? Is it the playbook is to complicated or ??
Playbook is an issue for Bryant, though he says it isn't. He does look lost out there. Too inconsistent. He's got tremendous talent, but he needs to transfer that to the field. It's a process and all young receiver go through it.
What is the cap situation next year?
Cowboys have cap room to make some moves now, but they will have some dead money, based on the moves made this summer, that will eat up their cap. At least $25 million will be taken up on next year's cap. The Cowboys most likely will clear up some space if they need to make a big move regarding a free agent.
If you are talking about drafting a first rounder next year who would you go with someone like RG III or a traditional QB like Landry Jones
Hard to say. I like RG III. But Jones is more of a traditional QB and i would suspect Garrett leans toward Jones.
Guys this is fun, but I gotta go.Take care.
