Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Alex (Anaheim)

How do you see Ogbonnaya performing this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

Not at all sold on his running ability but Cleveland has used him a lot as a receiver. Has more PPR value than standard league value.

Billy (Iowa)

Simply question, Adrian Peterson or MJD?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Peterson. The Jaguars passing game might be the worst in the NFL and that has limited MJD's touchdown chances. Peterson now has Ponder, who has played fairly well, and he is also playing at the maybe the highest level of his career. Peterson is the pick.

Al (Wausau, WI)

KC, my 2 defenses are Buffalo and New Orleans. I chose to start Buffalo this week. Do you agree with my decision?

KC Joyner
  (3:04 PM)

Would do with New Orleans if only because Buffalo still can't stop the run and they have to face Murray on the road.

Juan (Denver)

I'm pretty much out of it this year, is Tim Tebow worth trading for as a keeper next year?

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

That would be a risky move in that it sometimes seems the Broncos aren't exactly sold on him as their long-term starter (and that might be too nice of a description of that situation).

Why do they always advertise your chat for the wrong time on ESPN's fantasy football page? If I wasn't such a dedicated reader, I'd miss this thing every week. Who do you like better as a flex this week: Torrey, Celek, or Doucet? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

Hadn't noticed that. It probably has to do with the chats long history of being at 4 PM. I'll send a note over to get it corrected. Celek is the pick, but Smith has the most upside.

Matt (Arizona)

How are Mike Wallace's matchups the ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

He's got four red-rated CBs in his future (red-rated being the most difficult of matchup types). Still expecting him to do well, as he has matchup-buster capabilities, but that is a daunting set of matchups.

Jeff (PA)

I hear Josh Cribbs may get some touches out of the backfield. Does that make him a worth while start against a bad STL D?

Sam (CA)

Do you think Cribbs has value if he gets snaps at RB? Has he improved enough at WR to be flex worthy?

KC Joyner
  (3:10 PM)

Anyone against the Rams has flex value given how badly their D has performed most of this year.

Brandon (Avon, OH)

Julio or Mario? off to bad start w V Jax and Tolbert...

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

Like Mario's chances this week but Julio ranks 3rd on the TFS start-sit WR charts (which are available for purchase at - only site plug of the chat). Start Julio.

Bobby (Madison, WI)

KC! Every week I start James Starks over Ben Tate and then on Tuesdays I kick myself. With your blessing I would like to start Tate over Starks this week. Are you on board with this? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (3:12 PM)

Just had a chance to look at the Packers run blocking from last week and was not at all impressed. Tate is going to keep getting carries (see this week's TFS Pass Plays article for more details), so the blessing is given for this week!

Chip (NC)

KC- Could you please discuss the values going forward of Vincent Brown and Denarius Moore? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

The big difference is that Moore looks like he will be a starter and Brown is only going to start if Floyd can't play. That would lean towards Moore being the more valuable of the two ROS.

Chip (NC)

Re: Torrey his value tied to the deep ball or is he now getting enough targets to warrant WR3 or flex status in 12 team leagues?

KC Joyner
  (3:15 PM)

It's all still pretty much vertical pass or bust for Smith. His targets also may drop because Evans looks like he could finally be returning from injury.

brian (de)

Planning ahead for Big Ben's bye. Who do you like as a plug in and ROS backup... A Smith(vs Ari), Ponder (vs Oak), McCoy (vs Jax) or Moore (vs Buf). Someone just dropped Bradford as well.

KC Joyner
  (3:16 PM)

Ponder is throwing the most vertical passes of that group (small sample size but he's averaging double digits in vertical passes per game so far), so he would be the pick.

Joe (Vermont)

playn for first place this week..Julio,Wes,Megatron.ABrown,plax which 2 missed on VJax

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

Congrats! Julio and Megatron are the highest rated on this week's TFS WR start-sit list.

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

Among that group you mentioned, that is.

Justin (St Paul)

Would you bench Fitzgerald for Julio Jones in ppr this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

Sure would. It all comes down to matchup. Jones has a very favorable CB matchup and Fitz looks like he will face Asomugha. Asomugha isn't playing up to his talent level but he's not exactly someone other teams are going to want to throw at if they can avoid it.

Joe (vermont)

so who? julio/Megatron?

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

If you have to pick one of the two, Julio's matchup is much more favorable and that gives him the nod.

Igor (NYC)

Would you bench Welker for A.J. Green and A. Brown?

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

For Green this week, yes. For Brown, can't quite make that leap.

Joey (Do you like movies about gladiators?)

Start Nate Washington over Andre Johnson even if he plays? (I.E. will it take him a couple games to get up to speed?)

KC Joyner
  (3:21 PM)

Just got done watching that movie again this week - it's still ROTF funny even after seeing it maybe 50 times. Not exactly sold on Washington but Johnson's injury is more than enough of a concern to avoid putting him in the lineup if at all possible.

Joe (Dallas)

What type of RB value should I look for if trading Andre Johnson or Nicks?

KC Joyner
  (3:22 PM)

Low-end RB1 if either of those two are healthy, but as long as they are battling injuries, it will probably be RB2.

Eric (Chicago)

Stafford or Big Ben this week Scientist? First place depends on it!

KC Joyner
  (3:23 PM)

It's a very close call, as they are rated right next to each other on the TFS QB start-sit charts, but Stafford gets the nod because the Bengals D is stronger than the Bears.

Alec Baldwin (Los Angeles)

Hey KC! I took a huge risk last night (with your guidance) and started Vincent Brown. I am 4-5 and in a must win sitch, I am considering starting Jon Baldwim over Manningham since Champ will be on Bowe and Carlos Rogers may be on Mario. Can I catch lightning in a bottle 2X this week???

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

Glad to hear that worked out! The odds say to start Manningham even though he is facing Rogers (who is having a very good year). If you want to play for upside, however, Baldwin's matchup is more favorable, so it could be a justifiable move if you are willing to take the risk.

Keith (Norfolk VA)

Who are some deep league sleepers I might be able to pick up and use for this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

Jake Ballard is still avaiable in nearly 70 percent of ESPN leagues despite being a top 10 TE. Bennett could be a good pick.

Bill (KC)

Since Wallace has 4 red rated CBs .... would you still take him over Vincent Jackson?

KC Joyner
  (3:28 PM)

Wouldn't do it, as Jackson also has four red-rated CBs on his schedule horizon.

Radio (Doghouse)

I have to give my advice to my boss, my job might depend on it! Jets, Giants or Detroit d this week? I have no idea why he would carry 3 defenses by the way.....

KC Joyner
  (3:30 PM)

Giants rate the highest on the TFS start-sit charts. Just know this - if the move doesn't pan out, tell your boss to come to these chats every week. That could be a job saver :-)

mike (north carolina)

is lloyd a good start this week in a ppr league? with austin out, i have to choose between lloyd or robinson.

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

Tough call, as Robinson rates nearly as well on the WR start-sit charts. Having said that, Lloyd does rate a bit higher because he has been targeted for vertical passes quite often and has been very close to converting some of those into big plays. He'll likely hit one of those this week.

Anthony (Cali)

Speaking of Vincent Jackson, can you give me about 3 WRs that you would trade for him straight up in a ppr? I'm thinking of selling him.

KC Joyner
  (3:33 PM)

Depends on if you can get the other owner to pay the price for Jackson that his GB performance said he should command. If so, getting any top line WR1 should be possible. If the owner isn't buying that, a WR2 pick is more along the lines of what should be expected.

Michael (Boston, Ma)

Thinking about benching Fitzgerald in favor of Laurent Robinson. Smart move or crazy? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

Got a lot of faith in Robinson but not that much. Start Fitz.

Ricky (Austin)

Have Torrey Smith or Antonio Brown played themselves into a start over Beanie Wells? With Peterson, Fred Jackson and McGahee as my other backs.

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

Can't make that case for Smith, but can make that case for Brown.

Rock legend Bruce Dickinson (Yes, *the* Bruce Dickinson)

Trade Andre straight-up for Nicks? How do they stack up in terms of red-rated pass defenses?

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

Absolutely. Andre has four red rated matchups, Nicks only. And Nicks has four green rated matchups (green being the most favorable), so his upside potential is huge.

Mamma Hillis (Cleveland)

Can I drop my son? Technically he's killing my team.

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

Only if you have someone else who has higher value (which, unfortunately for Hillis owners, hasn't been hard to find this year).

mike (north carolina)

hey, thanks for answering my question. follow all your chats, glad i got one answered!

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

More than glad to! Contrary to some opinions, I do all I can to answer as many questions from as many chatters as possible.

Wing (NYC)

trade Vjax and CJ for Foster?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

If you can get the other owner to bite on that trade, you need to be in sales. Absolutely make the trade.

Eric (Cleveland)

Sit one: Manningham, Lloyd, Harvin, L. Robinson?

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Harvin. The GB defense has given up some big plays but he is still the riskiest start of that bunch.

Shane (Port Angeles, WA)

KC, Denarius Moore looked good last night in terms of getting seperation and making big plays. Would you base the majority of his performance on his talent or San Diego's bad secondary?

KC Joyner
  (3:40 PM)

The SD secondary has been off of its game but Moore has also been that good this year, so it wasn't just the matchup.

aggie (tx)

Sitting at the docs waiting for my turn. Pick one from celek shockey or robinson please

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

It's between Robinson and Celek but the gut says Robinson will be the better play.

Quarterback (Behind Center)

Pick two to round out my lineup w/ Calvin.....Nicks, A. Brown, Jordy? Thanks for all you do.

KC Joyner
  (3:43 PM)

Those are three good options, so congrats on building a quality roster. Jordy is an automatic. With regards to Nicks/Brown, it all depends on how much risk you want to take. Nicks is rated higher but he has been battling an injury. Brown isn't far behind in recent production and the matchup is just as favorable. Nicks if you want to take some risk, Brown if you want to play it safe.

Julius (Brick City)

Fitzgerald and AJ Green have terrible matchups this week. Do I dare start Laurent Robinson and Antonio Brown over these two? I know I am breaking the "start your stud rule." But still?

KC Joyner
  (3:45 PM)

Can't say to start Robinson over those two. Could make a case to start Brown over Fitz but the start-sit charts still have Fitz and Green rated slightly higher, even with the tough matchups.

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

Had a bit of an Internet freeze there for a second. All apologies.

Leonard (cambridge)

Helu, Manningham, or Mike Williams (TB) this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:48 PM)

Manningham does have Carlos Rogers on his radar this week, but Rogers isn't such a great CB that he should be avoided, especially with Manningham being on such a roll of late. Start Manningham.

Mike (CA)

KC - need to start a run toward playoffs - opponent played Gates and Tolbert last night - do I go with Daily Show at Flex to get points? Or a WR like A.Brown or Holmes to shoot for upside.

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Go for upside and start Brown.

Hans (Pittsburgh)

Odd man out in 1pt PPR - Bowe, Maclin, Stevie Johnson or Jordy?

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Johnson rates lowest, although Maclin's matchup against Peterson could be quite daunting.

Mac (Texas Quandry)

KC, Whenever you answer a question I have great weeks!!! So with Andre Johnson out, should I play Laurent Robinson or ben tate as my Flex? I do however already own Foster and Daniels so that would be 3 Texans!!! My other TE is Pettigrew.

KC Joyner
  (3:51 PM)

Hope we can keep that trend going! Would start Robinson in this case.

David (US Navy Charleston SC)

KC: Best TE going forward: Daniels,Ballard,Hernandez or F.Davis?

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

Davis has been battling injury, so that knocks him out. Daniels has been good but not great, so he doesn't win. Hernandez has posted very good numbers, but he's also one of two TEs on the Patriots, so that is a concern. Would go with Ballard in this case.

Betsy (at my desk about to go home)

Thoughts on Steve Breaston?

KC Joyner
  (3:54 PM)

He has a history of posting top-notch vertical numbers, doesn't have a daunting schedule and now could get a lot more favorable coverage if Baldwin starts to threaten defenses on a consistent basis. Not sold on Cassel on vertical throws (his history there has been terrible) but all in all Breaston's chances are pretty good.

Bob (Sac)

OK, give it to me straight KC ... I traded Roddy White away for VJack on Tuesday .... how bad will I regret it?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

Hate to play Friday afternoon QB, but it could be a very regrettable trade. Jackson has the aforementioned tough matchup stretch and White, by contrast, has only one red-rated matchup ROS.

Amy (Carolina)

How do you think Cam Newton will do vs the Titans on Sunday?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

He's a must start and the fifth ranked QB on the TFS QB start-sit charts. More of the same fantasy-point wise for Cam.

Roy Williams (Air Craft Carrier - San Diego)

Big game tonight KC, you watching? I know you're busy with football, so maybe I can trouble you with this question - Shiancoe or Daniels? Thanks good buddy!

KC Joyner
  (3:57 PM)

I'll be keeping an eye on tonight's game (always do whenever football is on the tube). Daniels rates higher but if you need to play for upside, Shiancoe is the way to go because his matchup is much more favorable.

John (Boston)

U say Cam is Must start what if u Have Vick/Tebow too?

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

Then you are a very lucky person and should consider trading one of them before the trade deadline. Newton is rated slightly ahead of Vick, who is also a must start on the TFS start-sit charts. Tebow is couple of rankings behind those two.

Dan (PA)

I respect your "start/sit" charts, but don't you have to use common sense sometimes? Julio Jones over Megatron? Really? That seems silly given Julio's 2 TDs all season compared to Megatron's 11 and historic season thus far...

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

The only thing keeping Jones from being one of the highest rated WRs in fantasy football is that he was injured. He is as good as last week indicated and Megatron has a very tough matchup in Tim Jennings. It's not as if Megatron is low rated on the charts (he's in the top 10 and is listed as a must start), but he isn't the only must start each week.

Roy Williams (Air Craft Carrier- San Diego)

You do know we're playing basketball tonight, right? UNC v. Mich. St. Quickly...D Nelson, M Jenkins or Dustin Keller? Thanks

KC Joyner
  (4:02 PM)

Thought you were talking about the CFB game tonight (the participants in that contest don't come to mind off the top of the head). Jenkins for upside in that group.

scott (MA)

is Julio Jones rated so high this week because you expect Tracy Porter to sit?

KC Joyner
  (4:02 PM)

The hope is that Porter plays, as he is a coverage liability, but even if he sits, the matchup will be quite favorable for Jones.

Zach (Pgh)

Buzzer Beater:Trade McGahee for Nicks?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

In a vacuum, this is a trade to make, as Nicks has the aforementioned extremely favorable schedule. Well, the hour has flown by but I've got to run. Couple of quick notes. First, the TFS material is always listed on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. The start-sit charts can be purchased at I will be a guest on the Fantasy Blitz on ESPN Radio later tonight (specific time still TBD), so check that out if you can. Hope to see you all here next week!
