Chat with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (11:00 AM)

Good morning gang! We've got another hour of fantasy chattage up ahead, so let's get right to it. Second cup of coffee in hand - who gets the handoff?

Drew ((NY))

Have u heard anything on the McGahee injury?

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

Not as bad as Moreno's. Hard to know if he truly will be ready to go given a Thursday game. Either way, it's probably best to avoid him.

Randy (Tha Dimas)

Any word on Maclin? Will he miss anytime? If so, How long would u guess? thnx

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

He'll get the standard MRI today and we'll know more after... I would guess he sits Week 11, but it's only a guess.

Josh (WA)

What's your guess at Tebow's stats against NYJ

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

100 yards passing and 40 yards on the ground.

Nate (Indiana)

Is Chris Johnson finall yback after a decent performance last week and a break out game yesterday?

AJ Mass
  (11:04 AM)

I'm not exactly jumping for joy since the Panthers are the worst run D in the league... but at least he didn't disappoint.

Mike (NJ)

Did Andy Reid forget LeSean McCoy is magic when he touches the ball? Is he trying to save him for the "playoffs" or something?

AJ Mass
  (11:05 AM)

Reid is one of the worst coaches in the league, and I've felt this way for some time. You can't bench your starting WR and then proceed as if he is playing with 3-1 pass-run ratio. Awful!

James (CT)

Are you worries about Darren Sproles for the future? I know regression should be expected but 0 points was brutal

AJ Mass
  (11:06 AM)

No need to overreact to one game. It's about being part of the mix, and he is. Period.

Mikey (Chicago)

The same can be said for the Rice situation--only 5 carries??

AJ Mass
  (11:07 AM)

Different scenario here - Ravens fell behind and went to pass. That's not the same as being ahead or tied most of the game and deciding that throwing to Riley Cooper is the smartest plan.

Billy (KC)

Blount or Beanie ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:08 AM)

I'd side with Blount, simply because I don't trust Beanie's health.

J.B. (PA)

AJ, how do you feel about a guy who is about to be 1-9 in his league offering deals of some of his better players to teams actually in the playoff hunt? The trades are not horribly skewed in one direction but we are talking about guys like Megatron and Shady being dealt.

AJ Mass
  (11:09 AM)

I have an article on this very subject coming up today... if it's not a keeper, the "losers" should not get involved in deals.

Roy Helu (Shannyville)

Come on, coach, just let me play!

AJ Mass
  (11:10 AM)

Magic ouija board says otherwise... sigh.

Alex (NC)

5-5 in my league with trade deadline approaching. Forte and Best are my top RB's and I have Vick and Stafford. Advice on haning onto Best ROS vs. trading one of my QB's for someone like Murray?

AJ Mass
  (11:11 AM)

Always better to have players who you can play rather than hoping for a return. I'd have made that trade weeks ago.

Adam (Bristol)

Frank Gore's injury, is he going to miss any time?

AJ Mass
  (11:12 AM)

Word is he'll be fine for Week 11 and team was just being extra cautious... but with the clear lead in the division, expect a lot of Kendall Hunter over next few weeks regardless.

DeMarco Murray (Dallas, TX)

I deserve to be the starting back when Felix comes back AJ!! Am I wrong?

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

No. Not wrong at all.

Greg (NYC)

Better WR flier. Damian Williams, Harry Douglas, Leonard Hankerson

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

I'd go with Williams. Harry's surge more a result of Julio being banged up and I steer clear of WAS at all costs.

Chris (NYC)

AJ Green's injured knee, will he miss time?

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

Another case of MRI telling the story, but from early reports, it doesn't appear to be considered serious right now.

Sarah (HELL)

Started Tebow over Brady (like the "experts" said to do) and Brady goes off for his best game since week 3!! Talk me off the ledge! Brady seems to have an easier schedule the rest of the season... can he keep this up??

AJ Mass
  (11:18 AM)

You make it sound like Tebow got 3 points. He did NOTHING via the air and still was No. 8 QB. Nobody said to bench Brady - just that it was a tough matchup - and it was.

Mike (DC)

Can Tate be trusted as a flex play ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:20 AM)

I believe so. He's going to get 10-15 touches a game as Houston keeps Foster relatively fresh for the playoffs.

Troy (iOwA)

I know it's just one down game but any concerns with Cam Newton ROS??

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

The more film you get on the rookies, the more the defenses will exploit the weaknesses. It's on Cam to adjust now, and I don't think he will do so enough to maintain the strong start.

Mike (Boston)

Tebow throws 8 time and puts up 19 points in our league. How comfortable would you be with him as your #1 QB the ROY?

AJ Mass
  (11:23 AM)

Not at all comfortable. The upside is huge, but I'd rather have a QB in a non-gimmick offense.

Stevie Johnson (The Buff)

My offense gets worse every week. And I don't think they remember that I'm on the field!

AJ Mass
  (11:25 AM)

Throw out this game for Stevie. He had the flu all week and then the Bills got down early -- just throw it out.

Earl Bennett (Chitown)

Am I the only receiver to be trusted in Chicago?

AJ Mass
  (11:27 AM)

Pretty much... Hester only has value from the home run return factor.

Denarius Moore (Oak-town)

You like my chances to be the #1 receiver for OAK ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:29 AM)

With Ford hurt, I'd certainly expect Moore to get the most looks.

Steve (Washington)

Laurent Robinson looked like the real deal yesterday.... what do you expect from him when Miles Austin returns??

AJ Mass
  (11:30 AM)

Austin will get his starting job back when he returns and Robinson becomes a 4-catch, flex guy.

Stan (NYC)

Lance Ball worth a Waiver pick-up against the Jets on Thursday? Would you play him over J Stew?

AJ Mass
  (11:31 AM)

Worth a pickup, yes. My initial feel is to stick with Daily Show, though.

Michael (Seattle, WA)

What happened with Julio Jones?

AJ Mass
  (11:33 AM)

He clearly wasn't ready to go, gave it a shot and had to bail because of the hamstring. If he struggles to practice again, you have to consider benching him in Week 11.

Doug (PA)

Disagree about not allowing trades when guys are 1-9. Trade in my league from a team that was 1-7 and guy caught flack for it because he traded away Gore and got an injured Bradshaw and Tebow back. Well the guy that got Tebow lost by 1 last week because of DHB's goose egg and won this week.

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

Not saying you shouldn't allow them... but what I am saying is that if a guy who has shown no interest all season (which is not always the case with a 1-9 team) suddenly hops on line to trade away stars... that's bad form to me. Owner should be confronted.

Mike (Raleigh)

RE: Julio Jones, FYI, the world is actually they he aggravated the other hamstring, not the one that was previously hurt.

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

Not unconnected... you run differently with a bad hamstring and that can cause the other one to get stressed.

Trades (Loser to Winner)

If the value is fair and makes sense for the rosters....records shouldn't matter.

AJ Mass
  (11:37 AM)

Totally agree. However when a guy who never makes any moves for 10 weeks suddenly trades with the first place team you have to ask the questions...

Matt (Georgia)

Which Jackson should I be more worried about ROS, Desean and Vincent?

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

Far more concerned with DeSean.

Dwayne Bowe (KC)

Is Cassel my problem or am I who everyone thought I was?

AJ Mass
  (11:40 AM)

The lack of a legit running back is the problem. Battle's not the answer, TJ is too old and Dexter is not going to cut it either. You'll have ups and downs... but if Charles were there, you'd be a top 5.

bill (ny)

whats your take on carson palmer? is he startable in the future weeks over josh freeman?

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

I think because the Raiders are so strong on the ground, Palmer can pick and choose his spots enough to have fantasy value going forward. But he needs his receivers to stay healthy as well... another one goes down and there's no way he can keep this up.

Dave (Chicago)

What are your thoughts on having three guys from one team? I made a trade last week and now have Murray, Bryant and Witten. Do you have any issues with this? They all were top 10 plays according to the rankings and Witten was really the only one that didn't perform. Play your best players right?

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

Yes, you play your best players, but you don't want all your eggs in one basket either. Cowboys struggle one week and your team loses.

sam (toronto)

Can Eric Decker be trusted in 10 tm leagues with Tebow at the helm?

AJ Mass
  (11:44 AM)

Absolutely not. How could you trust any Broncos receiver if the team is only going to throw 10-15 times a game?

Rick (Toronto)

If Bradshaw's not back next week, do I go with Ogbo or Battle?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

Ogbo, but a lot of that depends on injury progress during the week... though I doubt either Hillis or Hardesty suit up.

Relegated to the Copy Room (BJGE LLC)

Why have I suddenly vanished? Any hope for me ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:47 AM)

It's a Belichick offense. Woodhead, Faulk, BJGE, Ridley... any given Sunday truly applies here with no rhyme or reason.

Concerned Nicks Owner (NY)

How concerned are you with the lack of work Nicks got yesterday. I know he caught a late td, but 4 targets and limited playing time are concerning. Was this a product of working the hamstring back, or are Cruz and Manningham taking over?

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

Anytime that a player is a game-time call, you're taking a chance playing him. In this case it also came with a cross-country flight, after little reps all week. Just judge the fact he was upright in the 4th quarter and monitor practice this week.

Mike (Tampa)

If you have Daniels as your TE and need a fill in this week. Would you drop Daniels, or go ahead and give up on Felix Jones and drop him?

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

Depends on what I have at RB, but on the surface, I'd cut Felix.

Steve (Montana)

Have you seen David Fincher's "The Game" starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn? Underrated movie... Also, is Matthew Stafford gonna be OK ROS, or should I hang on to Tim Tebow just in case?

AJ Mass
  (11:51 AM)

You should always have a Plan B at QB, because injuries happen. Yes, I've seen The Game, and if you stop it about 5 minutes before the end it's a great film. Ending lowers it a notch in my book to an 8 from a 9.5.

Gary (Denver CO)

I assume you're not the Reggie Bush bandwagon? I'm trying to tell my friend that his stats were inflated by fortunate touchdowns.

AJ Mass
  (11:52 AM)

Don't negate the scores entirely, but certainly the yards per touch numbers are not RB1 material by any means.

Don (Hawaii)

Which pair, Foster/Daniel Thomas or Gore/Mathews?

AJ Mass
  (11:54 AM)

I'd take my chances with the Foster/Thomas side.

Mark (Chicago)

Which QBs don't you need a Plan B for? For example, Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Rivers?

AJ Mass
  (11:55 AM)

You need a Plan B because anyone can get hurt, and I'd rather have a legit starter on my bench just in case than to scour the waiver wire for Tyler Palko-types in the worst case scenario. Plus, there's that "Week 16 benching" possibility.

Eggs (One Basket)

So...play your best players unless you have 3 or more on same team?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

I'd say draft a team where you don't have the eggs in one basket so you can start your best players without that monkey in the wrench.

Keith (Chicago)

Should I be back to starting Chirs Johnson, every week. I'm not even mad I missed out on his biggest game, because i trust him that little...

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

I think you have to start him, unless you have legit 100-yard options in his stead...

Mike (PA)

Can I just drop Helu? Too frustrating...next week he'll probably inexplicably give Tashard Choice the start

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

Welcome to Shanahan Village! Population, you.

Keith (Chicago)

Need a bye-week fill in for Jimmy Graham, Shaincoe or Fasano?

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

I'd go Visanthe.

AJ Mass
  (12:01 PM)

That's the whistle, gang! We'll be back on Thursday for more chat... until then there's Twitter! And please do support the book, http://www.amazon.com/How-Fantasy-Sports-Explains-World/dp/161608295X if you'd be so kind. Until the next time, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
