Hi everyone:Most season-ending injuries in a weekend? Perhaps..what does it mean for fantasy teams in Week 11? A lot harder to find replacements...
Stephania, are both Cassell and Schaub lost for the season? Say it ain't so.
LeAnne: It appears that way. Neither has been officially ruled out for the year - but for Todd Haley to say Cassel could be done (more than he usually reveals) and he needs surgery on his throwing hand, not looking good. Schaub is visiting with specialists to determine the course of treatment but it's certainly not encouraging, at least not for fantasy seasons.
Another good Podcast today with lots of info, about all the new injuries. However I didn't hear much about an old injury. Darren McFadden. I hear he's out of the boot. What have you heard about him lately????
Scott: Thanks for the props on the podcast - as far as DMC, he was not at practice yesterday but was walking without the boot. If he's not back at least jogging by Weds, I'd be very surprised about him being ready by the weekend.
Do you think Mcgahee plays Thursday?
Ryan: I do, as long as nothing goes awry in practice today. mcgahee suffered a hamstring strain when he hyperextended his knee but was cleared to practice today. Tues is the big practice day for a Thurs night game, so if all goes well today, expect he plays.
Aloha Steph. Here's the weekly obligatory question on the status of J Best. Any good news?
Alan: Aloha. But sorry, no news of any kind really. Schwartz says he's "status quo" and reminds everyone he needs to be symptom-free before he can get cleared, suggesting he is indeed, not symptom-free.
Ms. Bell, QB question here how is Staffords finger and would that injury cause you start Palmer over him in week 11? Thanks for the help.
Albert: It's a fair question. My fantasy team got hurt by Stafford's poor performance. He swears it was the wind more than the fracture but...hard to know for sure. If you believe that, at least they're playing in a dome this week - but I want to hear a little more about how he look throwing in practice this week before I make the final call.
I have Vick and Schaub. Awesome... so does Vick play?
Rick: Brutal. And it doesn't sound like it. There's still time - and after all, he did play through it this week. But he was awful.
Just saw a report that McGahee was seen not taking part individual drills after stretching? Did he aggravate?
Aaron: They may have just controlled his activity - and since the media only gets to see part of practice we need to wait a bit longer to find out if he did anything later in the session.
roethlisberger's thumb...are you concerned?
ben: not as much now that I've heard it's an aggravation of a prior issue. Seems like he also had that with his foot (meaning an old fracture that may not have fully healed and then cracks again). He made it sound like he would have played this week if not for a bye, so right now, not especially concerned.
Bradshaw any closer to a return?
Eric: No word - Coughlin says he will not speculate but he did say he would want to see him at practice before he returns. That means Weds will be somewhat telling.
GO NINERSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!any update on megatron?
Indeed!!! And Megatron underwent concussion tests after taking a big hit Sunday, apparently passed them all and is going to play
Listening to the podcast, but no mention about AJ Green? Any word on his injury?
Jared: It looked very awkward when he landed on that straight leg, a little buckle on a hyperextended knee and he said he was stiff, couldn't get the knee loose afterward. No major issue on MRI, team says they don't expect him to miss time. I expect he'll be sore, they may tape/wrap the knee for support but plan on him playing although if he has a weird landing during the game, could flare up. Hard to repdict performance.
Jeremy Maclin single handed lost my week for me... 6 yards... 6 yards... Will he be back to turn that into 106 yards?
Being the injury expert and a niners fan, i figure who better to ask. What's the status on Gore? You think he plays week 11 and gets a good amount of carries?
Sean: I know, very disappointing. And with two injuries - AC sprain and a hamstring injury, it's not looking good. andy Reid said the shoulder was the worse of the two but either one could keep him out. Would make other plans at this point.
Willy: Oops - out of order. It sure sounds like everyone expects Gore to play - but the reason they held him out was their comfort level with the other backs - and the fact he had a bruised knee superimposed on a sprained ankle. Probably a wise move from a medical perspective, but didn't help my fantasy team to get a 0!! Before when we've heard he'll be limited in a game, he's put up nearly 100 yards. So no matter what they say in advance, I'm not sure we'll know until the flow of the game...nightmare.
heard anything about Julio Jones? thinking about trading for him. Thanks!
Antony: We know this is now the opposite hamstring, not the same one he injured earlier in the season. We don't know how severe but his lobbying to get back in the game suggests it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Would like to see him back in practice before I get comfortable.
Any updates on Hardesty? Think there could be some value during the fantasy playoffs.
Jeff: Not yet. Hillis already ruled out for this week, but not Hardesty. Still, I would be surprised if he comes back this week. Want to see him get back into practice first.
Any update on Santana Moss? Will he be worth a pickup if I have to drop Mike Williams TB?
Rob: Don't get too far ahead. He'll be out again this week and original projection was 5-7 weeks. Even if he beats that, it's another week - and it could be several. So I'm not making that move yet.
With Schaub hurt, is it time to bail on Andre Johnson? I've been hoping to keep him for a playoff push, but now...
Mitch: As disappointed as I am (as an AJ owner) that Schaub will not be throwing to him, AJ is so good, that I think he still retains his value. I do worry that they stay a little more with a heavier run game though as Leinart works his way in. That said, if he's throwing, I'm betting AJ is his number one target - so I keep him.
Any word on the severity of Stevie's Shoulder injury? Is is similar to Maclin's? Or Rice? Or Cam's? So many different flavors of shoulder injuries!
Not really - although apparently when he was driven into the ground it made it go tingly on him, per Chan Gailey. Sounds like his neck could have been a part of the issue. Team calling him day-to-day so probably won't know much more until later in week.
If u get an update on McGahee during the chat will ya let us know. thank u kindly
Randy: Sounds as if he's a little more questionable than before the practice where he didn't do much. Then again, holding him out of drills may be what allows him to play. I'm betting this ends up a gtd.
Welker has been on the injury report the last few weeks with different injuries, anything I should be worried about?
Paul: I don't think so - not in the sense of any major issue to consider for the remainder of the season. Sure - the more banged up he gets, the less we like it, but he's shown he can be productive, regardless. So, then answer is no.
How comfortable would you be trading for AJ Green?
Nick: Depends what I'm giving up. I'm more conservative than a lot of folks and with a guy coming off injury, even if it appears to be no big deal, I'm reluctant to trade until I know it's not a lingering concern. Of course, then everyone knows so it's harder to do the deal...
Update on Felix Jones? Will D.Murray's carries be threatened soon?
Matt: Sounds like the Cowboys think Jones could return Sunday. That said, Jerry Jones, who can always be counted on for some input, says Jones will back up Murray. My guess is Jones is at best a flex as I don't see them leaning on him in any way in his first game back, esp with what Murray has been doing.
As Mathews get healthier, do you expect him to become more of a feature back, or will it always be a 50/50 split?
Jeremy: The Chargers have maintained that they wanted him to do more - but just when it looked like they were heading that direction, he gets held up by injuries. The question is can he handle that workload without risking more injury? They say they're trying to alter his style somewhat to avoid as many direct collisions but that's not an easy change to make.
I have McGahee and am nervous with a potential GTD. Should I pick-up Ball, just in case, or go for Hunter, considering Gore's issues?
Todd: I'd pick up Ball regardless b/c even if McGahee plays, he won't be 100% in four days. How they divvy up the load is still anyone's guess but I would grab Ball.
Any word on Cam's shoulder? Seemed to pop up out of nowhere. Any concerns with him going forward?
Steve: Nothing to suggest major injury but I do worry some about how much he's throwing (and how that impacts an already sore shoulder) and how much longer this season is than the college seasons he's accustomed to. Right now, I think he's fine - but over next couple weeks keep an eye on him.
To add to the Mathews question, with the Chargers always playing from behind, Tolbert seems to see more action.
Ryan: Also true - and Tolbert gets a lot of receptions out of the backfield so very valuable in PPR especially.
Is Daniel Thomas going to get the starter role back in MIA or has the injury and Bush's TDs relegated him to back up?
Bill: See - worth it to keep trying. I think eventually it's his role. That's what they wanted. but he has a ways to go to get it back right now. He's been inconsistent, even when healthy and Bush is getting the opportunities. So for now, I think he has to prove himself to get that role back and it's going to take a while.
Would you deal Megatron for Fred Jackson?
Do you think Beanie Wells has any chance of being 100% with that knee this year? Or is this the production we should expect from now on?
Billy: No - even he said it won't be right all year. And while he may have weeks where he's feeling pretty good and it's a non-issue, it has the potential to become an issue at any time. He's the king of inconsistency as far as I can tell, healthy or not. If you can live with that, then keep him.
Is Hillis droppable at this point? When is he expected to return?
Chuck: Common question. Very hard to answer. I am guilty of keeping him on my bench - but it's a 16 team league and I don't have many options. I also am of the belief that he ought to be really motivated to return and be productive for a couple of games before heading into the offseason. So I am hopeful that happens right during fantasy playoffs. But it's not a sure thing.
any news on Jacoby Ford? What would his absence mean for Oakland's other receivers?
Austin: Not looking like he'll be ready to go this week. Have to believe Moore is the stud right now.
Two GTD's on Sunday - Nicks and Manningham. Nicks looked in better shape before the game but did little. Manningham looked more Q and had a great day. Any updates on these 2?
Joe: Wasn't that the worst? Everything pointed to Manningham sitting - but credit the medical staff with doing everything to get that swelling dramatically down in 24 hours. Still Nicks looked good when targeted, just wasn't as heavily involved - and considering all the practice time he missed while injured (and Manningham practiced the entire time), it may have been a function of that. No indication either was set back after playing, expect Nicks goes back to top target status this week.
Cassel headed for IR anytime soon and what do you think of Bowe value if he is?
Scott: Don't know when that decision will be made but I'd imagine it will be after the surgery Cassel supposedly needs when they will have a more precise idea of exactly what they're dealing with. And it hurts Bowe to some degree, just don't know enough about Palko to know how much.
Any word on Malcolm Floyd today? Is Vincent Brown a must-add?
Karna: floyd didn't practice Monday but the next key practice day is Weds. I think his hip is still an issue. I'd be reaching for Brown.
Just heard LT is probably out this week. Will Joe Mcknight get many carries or will Greene carry the full load?
Josh: Have to believe Greene is in line for the bulk of the work. McKnight hasn't done much to pose a threat.
OK gang - time for me to check out of the room here. Best of luck heading into this week! Don't forget to check your Jets or Broncos players for the Thursday night game. We'll be back to talk more injuries on Friday at 11 a.m. See you then!
