Good morning and Happy Friday everyone! Well, pretty happy, unless you started practically any player in last night's game...What can we look forward to this weekend? We discuss...
Hey Stephania, how does it look for A.J. Green ?
Vinny: Not good. Green was held out of practice again today and it is looking all but definite that he will sit out Week 11. Smart for his long-term health.
Stephania - Congrats to your niners getting it done last week, without Gore against my Giants. You feel confident sending out Stevie Johnson with his shoulder issues or go Super Mario Manningham or Laurent Robinson?!?
Brent: Thanks for the Niner shout. The Stevie Johnson thing concerns me a little only because they have been so vague about what's bothering him. It's his shoulder but they are calling it a "sore shoulder" which makes me wonder why is it sore? Bruised? Something sprained? Not sure. He will play - and played well (mostly) through a groin injury before. But I actually like Laurent Robinson of the choices you gave.
It's safe to play S.Rice this week or should I bench him for Crabtree?
Kevin: Rice was back in full practice yesterday and appears safe to start, assuming there are no setbacks between now and then. And he's a favorite target of Jackson so I'd go with him.
What of Mike Vick, Stephania? What of him?!?!
Greg: Hmmm. WHat of him? I can't imagine he plays this week, at least not imagining it right now. As much as pain is an issue, I just don't think he can throw/run effectively with the injury he has.
Speaking of Gore...good to go, but how much work will he be getting? I feel like they may sit him late if they have a solid lead.
Xander: This week I think the issue is far more about what Gore will do and how much time he sees than whether or not he will play. Gore was in practice yesterday, apparently moving well. But earlier in the week Harbaugh expressed confidence in the "stable of backs" the Niners have AND they play again - against the Ravens - on Thursday. So I have to believe there's at least some semblance of a rotation that will happen - and how that translates for fantasy is very unpredictable.
Do you think Julio Jones plays this week? Would Harry Douglas be a good fill in?
Zeke: I think Jones will miss this week. No practice yet and they don't want to risk him sustaining a bigger injury. Douglas has done well with Jones out and I think he has a chance to do so again...
Good Morning...Is Andre definitely back week 12? What about Maclin? TY
Amy: Well, as definite as we can hope for a week and a half in advance. AJ says he will be back in practice next week and he fully expects to play in Week 12. Maclin is very uncertain to play this weekend with injuries to both his hamstring and his shoulder. Not ruled out yet but it doesn't look great.
how's it look for nicks? Last week was disappointing target-wise...result of the injury?
Brad: Was a different distribution - Nicks had not run full speed heading into that game. The good news is that Nicks is OFF the injury report this week and we can expect, I believe, the Nicks we're more accustomed to (and of course hope for no setbacks).
I know most people don't care about Kicker injuries, but hey, Kickers are people too. How do you feel about Sebastian J. this week?
Alex: And he's one who provides a lot of fantasy points. He hasn't practiced this week, they're still protecting his hamstring. But the team still sounds confident that he plays. Always a chance they can sign another kicker last minute, but I expect as of now that he plays.
Vince Young...Worth a flier this week over Matt Moore?
Jesse: Thanks for joining us from overseas. It's interesting. While I don't think Vince is going to set off any fireworks with his arm, I do think he has a chance to score with his legs. I'd probably spot start Young here over Moore.
Welker seems like he is a permanent fixture on the injury report, now its a knee. Can he stay healthy this season, I'm really thin at WR.
Paul: He is. And it's for a different body part each week. But he's also exceptionally tough and seems to manage to play each week. No word on what the "issue" is with his knee but the Patriots have until Monday night so expect him to play. As for the rest of the season, I sure hope he can stay healthy since he's on my fantasy team too.
What are the reports on DMC? While I hate to root for an injury, as a Michael Bush owner, I'm hoping he sits again this week...
Chris: Well, you are in luck then as a Bush owner since it looks like he will be starting at RB again this week. McFadden not yet practicing, figure he's at least another week away.
Do you believe that stafford's awful game last week was more about the wind than his hand injury? Is it safe to play him this week or should I start Palmer instead?
Frank: Not sure we'll ever really know the answer. It sounds as if he's been throwing the ball better in practice this past week, whether the finger feels better or he's getting more used to the tape and the gloves, but at least he won't be throwing in the wind this week. Shold be no excuses.
Will Malcom Floyd play this week? I've got Vincent Brown in at the moment, but I'm worried Floyd will be in.
Jason: There's not really much evidence to suggest that Floyd will play. He hasn't practiced yet - so we'll see if he makes a Friday appearance - but as of now, he's the Chargers receiver the most likely to sit.
Would you be confident enough in Gates' foot ROS to trade away Fred Davis, who has been warming bench for last few weeks?
Elvis: Nope. Gates' foot has certainly been better - and he's the guy I'd start- but one bad week, another flare-up and then you're in need, maybe during your fantasy playoffs. I'd hold onto Davis, unless you needed him for trade bait this week at a big spot.
Alert: Wilmington News Journal cites NFL source as saying Vick will NOT play Sunday night.
Stephania - although I've read he's improving, it seems likely that Bradshaw will sit this weekend. However, what are your thoughts on his longer term effectiveness? Do you think he can come back in a couple of weeks and serve as a productive flex for the fantasy playoffs?
Martin: I think the fact they're not pressing him back now and taking their time, waiting for foot to become less painful, all bodes well. The main issue with a stress fracture is that you allow the bone to repair itself adequately before subjecting it to increased stress (like the pounding of running). That's why Bradshaw has been doing pool work for instance. The best way to gauge progress is pain. Once it doesn't hurt to load the foot, then that is the cue to increase the work. But then it remains a balancing act going forward. Can't just overdo it right out of the gate. So whether he can get through the rest of the season without incident is very uncertain, but I think knowing this is in the background they will be monitoring him closely which should help.
Is Felix a sure go this Sunday?
Dave: Not a sure go. But I think it's likely.
As a Kendall Hunter owner is he worth playing over James Starks this week with Gore's injury? Also how bad is Greene hurt should I go get McKnight?
I think that's a gamble worth taking. Hunter has the chance to see some decent action. I just don't see them leaning on Gore the entire game. And Starks hasn't done a ton to make me value him over Hunter. Greene says he'll play next week - but he also said he could have come back but McKnight was doing so well, they didn't let him. For what that's worth...
Is Aaron Hernandez now fully healthy? Would you rather have him or Jason Witten?
Ray: I don't know about fully healthy, but he says the knee feels better. He also acknowledges that he's going to feel it from time to time within the game. I prefer Witten just because I think I can count on him more regularly as a favorite target of Romo's and a likelihood of red zone targets.
Best update? He was just put on waivers. Worth a bench spot?
Bob: Only if you're ok with maybe having him hang out on the bench for several more weeks. Really no way to know right now how close (or far) he is to returning.
Do you have any concerns with Big Ben, and if does miss some time am I sage with Tebow the rest of the year?
Ryan: Well, Tebow has certainly put up some pretty consistent fantasy production, regardless of what you may think of him as a quarterback. But I'm not worried about Ben's thumb either.
What do you think of Daniel Thomas this week and ROS? The carries were nice to see last week, but he didn't do much with them. Should that be viewed as him still getting over the injury or just not good production? Thanks.
John: Love this question. Wish I had an answer I was confident in. I think that it's a combination and as long as he's "getting over" the hamstring, it will be hard to dissociate the two. I do think he is still hampered by a leg that is not at full power - and he's making progress each week he's on the field without a setback, but he's also a rookie who is still figuring it out. At the end of the day, it leaves me lacking confidence in what I can expect from him - and he'd either be a low RB2 or a flex for me.
Good Morning Stephania!! I just traded Eli for MJD because I was afraid for McGahee's health. How are MJD's knees holding up? Think he will be ok?
Tom: I'm afraid the minute I say how well MJD is holding up, something catastrophic will happen. But it's hard to ignore that he has held up well this season, just playing in a situation where it's hard to score. They intend to keep leaning on him heavily in the running game so unless something comes out of the blue, I think you can look for consistent yardage out of him. And this week, maybe a score.
Any news on Calvin Johnson? Is he good to go?
Brandon: Not on the injury report - so yes, good to go.
Need some girl-power help on this tough call. I have Wells, Thomas (MIA) and Helu to pick from for my Flex in a .5ppr. Who would you start? Or would you drop one of them for Hunter and play him?
Michelle: It is a tough call. Don't like Beanie against the Niners run D. You saw my last note about Thomas so I don't have much confidence in him. As for Helu, he played more snaps than Torain last week, but what are we to do with Shanahan running backs??? At the end of the day, I probably go with Hunter, slight edge over Helu - but it's between those two for me.
Hey SB, Freeman or Hasselbeck to fill in for a broken Michael Vick?
JT: Hasselbeck. Freeman struggling lately with lots of picks (which of course means negative points) - like Hasselbeck at Atlanta.
Can you shed some light on teh severity of Shaub's injury? Is he truley done for the season??
John: The team hasn't come out and said that yet because they want the evaluation process to run its course. But presuming he needs surgery (and that seems to be a widely held belief), then he will be done.
any word on how McGahee felt after the game? Thanks!
Will: Aside from relieved that they won, his hamstring (he said) was no worse for the wear after playing. Although he also said he really didn't feel like himself once he got out there...not surprising given this was only 4 days after he strained it. The ten day between games should really help him out.
stephania, what exactly is dmc's injury any why so long to get back
PJ: Midfoot sprain is what the injury is. They called it mild and hinted at no structural damage on MRI. Still, even without major structural damage (which, for instance, is what it sounds like Matt Schaub has), it can be very slow for pain and inflammation to go down in that area and to protect the foot you have to remain non weight-bearing (why he was on crutches, boot for so long). Individual healing just happens at different rates and the Raiders seem to have been overly optimistic about how DMC would recover. Not much anyone can do and don't think they were being deliberately deceptive.
Stephania, what worries you more about Andre Johnson, his hamstring or Matt Leinart?
Bryan: Think the hamstring is behind him. Worry more about his QB - although with AJ's talent, he can make up for that - but may take a couple weeks to get in sync. Luckily they have a bye for Leinart to start getting more involved and then a week for them to practice together.
Hoping to get in before the end! Any hope for Santana Moss to be effective when he returns?
Dan: Absolutely. I think he can be. It's really a question of getting his hand mobility and strength back to the point where he's comfortable catching the ball and the strength to hang onto it.
Have you been able to watch any of Roddy White? Does he appear to be playing injured, and not really saying anything? Or just a down year?
Scott: I think the season started with him playing somewhat hurt, off a preseason helmet to the thigh injury. I believe he's healthier now but hasn't gotten into the groove he had last year.
An odd ball question coming at you, is Ray Lewis really going to be out and possibly miss a couple more games this year?
Dustin: That's the report out of Baltimore. Toe injury causing him to definitely miss this Sunday and perhaps longer.
OK gang. Time for me to head out of the chat room. Matthew Berry is chatting now so feel free to present him with your tough lineup choices...
And good luck in Week 11!!!
