Let's get rolling folks.
Denver's D-line also seems like it is coming along. McBean especially has been pretty solid. Is it better coaching or the scheme we have to thank?
I do think it is a well coached and the group is gelling well. But it is a unit that will likely be added to in the offseason.
I know you have to look at it week to week, but if the Raiders show up to play in Green Bay like they did in San Diego, can they somehow pull off a win in a game where the passing game might be evened out because of weather?
Yeah, let's take it week to week. I mean, what if they show up as the team that played Denver four days before the SD game. This division has been too crazy this year to get too far ahead of ourseleves.
Will the Broncos get pressure on Sanchez?
Miller and Dumervil are really playingf well and Sanchez has struggled against bliztes this year, so I think Denver may be able to get to them.
Hi Bill, thank you for these chats. Coach Jackson seems to have favorite players, as all coaches do, and appears to be phasing out some Al Davis favorites, (DHB and Jason Campbell) but I'm curious as to why Boss is sitting on the sideline so much. Have any insight into this?
I'm not sure on Boss. He has only had 11 targets this season. He has come through when targeted, though. He made a big play in the fourth quarter at San Diegom= last year. I think he needs to play more.
I have a hard time understanding why so many journalists are calling the Raiders a mediocre team. We lost to a hot Bills team in the last seconds... we're a few key mistakes away from challenging the Pats for a win, and we lost 2 "easy" games against DEN/KC after our starting QB went down. I know it takes a lot of "what ifs" to give us the best record in the AFC, but even now we're only 1 game behind in the loss column from the rest of the AFC "elite." We've beaten some good teams this season, what will it take to get the respect of the teams that have 1 more win than us?
It's the home lsoses to the Chiefs and Broncos. But who cares. Roll up wins and the respect comes.
Bill great work. How do you see the AFC west shaping up from here on out. It looks like the Raiders should win the division, but is there any chance the Broncos with Tebow or Charges make some noise and steal it at the end?
This thing is so week-to-week. This week, it looks like the Raiders are in control. But last week it looked like the Charegrs are in control. I'm just going to sit back and watch it all unfold. However, an Oakland win this week would be big for it.
What do you think Denver's offseason needs (besides a new QB) will be the top priority for the front office?
RB and O-line.
Is there something fundamentally flawed about the Chargers? Keep hearing all these football media types talking about how they're going to get it together and go on a roll, but man, I just don't know...
I've seen the Chargers play a lot and they just look incapable of finishing a game. Offensively, they are too mistake prone and defensively, they've been giving up too many big plays.
Do you see Norv being gone before the end of the season if the chargers lose 3 of the next 4 the way they have the last 4 and do you see AJ Smith being gone at the end of the year if this happens.
I think Norv finishes the season ... As for Smith, if the Chargers really fall apart, I do think there could be wholesale changes, yes.
Bill...if the Broncos beat the Jets tomorrow night, is it time for them to be considered a real threat to make the post season?
If Denver wins that game, yes, they are a contender in the AFC West.
I am hearing anywhere near enough praise for wiz II and the rest of Oaklands Offensive Line - apart from your column the other day. At the start of the season, Oaklands line was supposed to be weak according to "observers". Where are these observers now ??
Yeah, it's been strong. Wisniewski and Veldheer have been terriric.
Are Mathews and Jackson going to be healthy and be able to contribute against Chicago?
See should know later this week.
If Tyler Palko moves the offense as well as I could will I be out of a job next year?
It wouldn't help your chances, but I think you should be OK.
Offensive linemen from the afc west deserving of the pro bowl?
Along with the two Oak kids, Denver's Chris Kuper is playing well. SD center Nick HArdwick is always good.
If Turner is out at the end, who is a candidate? I don't know of anyone (big name) that is out there? (Cowher?)
If the Chargers totally clean house, perhaps they will go for a big-name to lead the entire operation, but that may be a longshot. I would think they would look for another offensive minded coach to work with Rivers.
Palmer best qb in AFC west?
He was in Week 10. But I'd still take Rivers over him for the long haul.
Do you see any hope for Tebow becoming a franchise QB?
From Fox's comments yesterday, it is clear he is set with keeping with the option. How many franchise option QWBs you know?
Bill...now that you've seen him in 9 games, give me your thoughts on Von Miller. Is he the real deal?
Terrific pass-rusher. I think he will be one of the next great pass-rushers in the league. Denver scored with that pick.
Can the Broncos offense work against the Jets' defense?
I think that will be Denver's greatest test. If the option works Thursday, the Broncos might stick with it for the next several weeks.
Bruce Campbell was considered a good snag in the third round. "experts" thought we would go after him in the first or even the second. Is there any word on his progress? I know he was inactive last week and missed much of what little training camp we had. Is that the major problem or is it deeper than that?
Campbell was actually a fourth-rounder. He is still a work in progress. It is still early but the fact that the Raiders have thrown in several other young players in the mix on both sides of the ball, could be a knock on Campbell. He needs to show something fairly soon.
After what's gone on with Peyton Hillis this season, does it make a little more sense why Denver traded him, even if it was for Brady Quinn?
The word was the previous Denver staff didn't think he was a hard worker. But he still could have helped thatb team more than Brady Quinn has in the past two seasons.
Do you think the Raiders/Chargers game in the last week of the season will decide the AFC West?
If I had to guess right now (again, this changes week-to-week) I'm saying Oakland wins the division Week 16 at KC.
Any chance the Raiders can keep Michael Bush next season or is he destined for a starting role somewhere else?
They will try and they will want to. But I think he could get paid starter's money and he may want a chance to be the lead back. This could be a Michael Turner situaiton from afew years back in SD.
What did Detroit do against Tebow that Oakland and KC were unable to do? Or....has Tebow gotten that much better?
The Broncos weren't committed to the option in that game, like they were in the Oakland and KC games.
Why do you think Heyward_Bey fell out of favor with Jackson?
I'm not sure. Let's see if it contunues, but DHB has finally shown he can play. He needs to continue to play. It will be silly if T.J. Housh gets more playing time than DHB the rest of the season.
Bill...I disagree about RB and OL as needs for Denver. Jeremiah Johnson is going to show what he's all about over the course of the rest of the season. He ran very well at Oregon (option attack) and just needs a shot. I think it could start as early as this week! For the OL, Denver is top 10 in rushing, they're doing something right. For me, I'd say DT, CB has to be need 1a and 1b...just my two cents...
The question was offensive needs ... I agree with your defensive needs, though.
Do you see Luck still being the #1 pick after looking very average against Oregon? Any chance he lands in the AFC West if his value drops? I heard him yelling "Don't sack me, don't sack me".
He's a lock to be the No. 1 pick.
Wouldn't Bush make a ton of sense in Denver? He's a great runner and Fox loves to run (Tebow or not). Bush and McGahee could beat up a defense for sure!
Yep, a ton of sense ... Lots of other places, too.
are teams with me cursed to have mediocre seasons?
Well, your career win-loss record is dreadful, brother.
Can a healthy McFadden and Carson Palmer lead Oak to a playoff victory this year?
Why not? Oakland would not be an easy place to play come January. It would will be fun to weatch that unfold.
Charger corners have been way less than stellar this year. with Jammer getting older, do you see Cason or Gilchrist being more reliable in the future?
I think they need to go back to Cason. Gilchrist may be better off as a safety. He's not ready to help as a CB. Yet, Cason play.
Is gates really health? He is playing and catching the ball, but he looks slower and a looks to be running a little gingerly?
I don't think he's 100 percent and he may never be. But he can still make some plays.
Since the season started, 3 of the 4 AFCW teams have new starting QBs for various reasons. How many of the current starters will be in the same position next year?
My guess: Rivers and Palmer.
Great hour, folks. Enjoy Week 11.
