Good morning gang! Plenty of fantasy football to get to, so let's get to it, shall we? Sixty minutes on the clock, second cup of coffee in hand... who is up first?
What's going on with the Bills O? Especially FJax?
Hard to get into any groove when you lose top 4 guys at some point during the game... Fred should be able to go, but with a bad bruise and a game with the Jets, he's not going to be a top option.
Will Kevin Smith lead the way to the elusive fantasy championship or was that just a mirage in the desert that is Carolina's D?
We saw the CJ2K bump for my boy "Cutback Suarez" and the same caution applies here. If you need a boost at RB, yes, pick him up, but don't sell off other "if" options to grab him just yet.
PPR Must Win ... Battle or McCluster tonight?
McCluster. Lots of opportunity for the quick passes.
With the emergence of Jordy Nelson should I bench Greg Jennings going forward? Thanks
Don't overreact here... I mean are you benching Finley because of Crabtree? The Packers will get all their players involved and Jennings will get his regardless of the Jordy factor.
Ethics question: All season, waivers kicked in prior to first game of the week (so Thursday in recent weeks). Apparently a couple of managers emailed the commissioner to complain, so yesterday without warning he removed waivers altogether about a half hour before morning kickoff. Only a couple of guys have taken advantage of the new rules (and the old waiver rules were admittedly cumbersome), but I strongly objected to a) arbitrarily changing the rules mid-season and b) doing it without at least a week's warning/discussion. Most of the others seem to think I am crazy ... am I crazy?
Of course you're not crazy. The ONLY way to change rules mid-season is to have a unanimous vote approving such a decision.
Does Law Firm actually get some points tonight?
Sure... but how many is up to the Mad Scientist. It's the cost of drafting Patriots and Redskins...
Are the buccaneers main three (Freeman, Williams, Blount) on the rise in Fantsasy, or was this a random good week for them?
I think Freeman is held back by the lack of real talent around him... random good week and bad tackling by Packers the reason for the stats and not a Tampa Bay surge.
What's the latest on AP? How worried should us owners be?
I'd be prepared to see him sit this week, though until tests are done, we won't have any "official word" and AP himself says he's playing.
Wasn't able to see the Miami game yesterday...1 catch for Marshall? Was it the D, b/c it didn't appear Buffalo played any looking at the score?
But with a big lead, no need for Miami to pass, and really, Marshall had a TD called back on a "Megatron" ruling... so it's not like he wasn't involved when the Dolphins were passing.
I'm the #1 pickup this week though right? Then maybe, Gerhart?
Most waiver wires, sure. Gerhart and Spiller are secondary choices, especially in Minnesota which might well decide to run Harvin a lot more if AP can't go.
Any new feelings on Tebow..Pretty much cement the fact that he's matchup proof? top 10 for sure?
No new feelings... I don't want him because I can't handle 55 minutes of awfulness to get that one drive of fantasy points. That said, no QB has more upside each week... or as much downside if that drive doesn't come.
What about Grant if Starks is out? Where do you see his value compared to Kevin Smith?
Similar status for this week. I see them both with a possible 100 combined yards and a score. Stuffing or potatoes? You know?
Is Baltimore more fit to derail San Fran or is Detroit more fit to derail GB?
Baltimore's D needs to stop SF to win. Detroit won't stop GB, but they may match them in points. I give edge to Ravens, given short week for Lions.
what are your thoughts about Andre Johnson this week? Can he come back and be a factor to help me make the playoffs?
The issue isn't AJ, it's Leinart under center, so even though I do think we'll see Johnson this week, I'm not automatically starting him.
So you are saying that Tebow has more "upside" than Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton, Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger (you know the guys who can throw 3+ TDs on any given week) etc?!? Are you nuts?!?!?
You're not defining the word "upside" properly. I didn't say "better" or "safer". I'm talking about the chances of the results being much higher than the projection. If Rodgers is predicted for 24 points and Tebow for 14, then Tebow has more upside.
WR#3: Antonio Borwn or Mike Williams ROS?
Brown for me.
Rank these in a PPR ROS, Maclin, Sproles, Mendy, Lloyd?
Lloyd, Sproles, Maclin, Mendenhall.
Non-fantasy question - what were your thoughts on Cincy's Gresham getting that TD overturned on the Calvin Johnson rule. Looks really bogus to me, personally.
I think the rule itself is ridiculous. If you get two feet down in bounds and then you cross the line - should be a score. Period.
So with Ponder looking for me last game, and getting a handful of running opportunities, my arrow's looking very up? I had a nice TD run called back yesterday...
Harvin is the only thing holding Harvin back. Every week it seems to be a new injury or those headaches return...
Who scores more tonight? BGJE or Branch?
I'd expect it to be Branch, but nothing surprises me with NE.
How many "McCoy cost me" posts have you received?
None. Not sure why I'd get them... If anything, it would be Prince cost me.
Do I continue to be extremely erratic, or will I start to produce at a more steady level ROS?
Erratic, since Rivers is so erratic himself this year.
Thoughts on Murray? Good defensive effort by Redskins or is he coming back down to earth?
Little of both... seemed to me he was looking over his shoulder a little bit in first half, wondering if Felix was going to eat into his touches. A little relaxing would go a long way....
speaking of Prince...I was debating with a friend of mine...should Prince have let McCoy score so the Giants get the ball back and at least have a chance (as little as it was) to win?
In theory, yes. Getting the ball back was the only way to win, but it's really hard to blame him for the tackle.
I think I refer to the highest possible amount of points someone might score, and I'm pretty sure I have nothing to do with projections...
Disagree. If I think a player will get 20 points if everything goes right, but probably gets around 15, while another guy gets about 40 if everything goes right, but probably gets around 10.... Player B has more upside.
Do I play serviceable enough for Matt Forte to play at the same level?
I think it's possible... Cutler isn't exactly a "force" on offense... more of a caretaker.
Fish are jumping today...*bait on hook*....did I hear there's a link somewhere for a certain book? Also, in dire need of a QB, would you prefer Newton or Romo? Grossman is the best guy on the wire and his sched looks ok.
Hmmmmm.... http://www.amazon.com/How-Fantasy-Sports-Explains-World/dp/161608295X I'd go with Romo over Newton... no touching Rex for me.
Yeah I look at a guy like Percy Harvin who is good for about 5-10 pts. a game, and Torrey Smith who is good for about 1-5 pts. a week but with HUGE upside over a guy like Harvin.
Ding ding ding.
Has Bush earned himself more touches, even after Run DMC gets back?
Yes, I think he has.
AJ - major issues on our league this week. A last place team dropped everyone of his players and picked up a bunch of scrubs off the waiver wire. Doesn't seem fair at all. Should we reverse the transactions? Thanks
Yes... and kick him out of the league.
My RB's are AP, FJax, Greene, and McGahee...am I gonna be able to field a team next week?
If you only need to start two, I think you may squeak in there... but as to which two?
Can you explain the "Megatron rule" for those who don't know what that is referencing?
Named after last year's Week 1 TD nullification of a Megatron TD... Essentially, a player who catches the ball and gets hit going to the ground must maintain possession all the way through landing, rolling over and standing back up or otherwise proving the catch.
Anyone crying today about DeSean's taunting penalty costing owners 5.5 PTS in a PPR?
No, but they should be... dumb dumb DUMB. And also was I flabbergasted that Andy Reid didn't take him out of the game for even a single play to yell at him. Clueless.
The Megatron rule, you have to catch the ball, both feet in bounds, show the ball to the ref, take the ball home with you, and bring it to practice on Tuesday, then they'll confirm the touchdown.
How shocked are you that stafford threw 5 td passes and megatron didn't catch any of them?
Certainly it was as likely as BJ Raji and Tim Crabtree both scoring ahead of Jennings.
Yeah but how dumb is the rule itself too? Only reason the play was nullified was that the Giants also committed a penalty. If they had not, Desean's catch stands and he gets a 15 yard penalty. Where's the logic?
Logic? What's that? I watched a college game where the refs overturned a call on the field re: an interception return for a score saying "No whistle blew" when a whistle was not only clearly heard on replay, but the ref on the field was waving his hands and pointing to the spot.
Palmer or Flacco, ROS?
I go Flacco. I like Carson, but not his weaponry.
Desean definitely taunted and it was really stupid. but how about the rule? I have never seen that. The play got called back for a deadball foul? In essence the Eagles lost the play (instead of the play standing and then losing 15 yards) because the giants committed a penalty. Counterintuitve.
Yes, as are the reasons some penalties are enforced on kickoff, but other can be simply declined... it's not a perfect system, but as long as it's called correctly - and there was a taunt here - I'm OK with it.
This whole chat is illogical.
Of all the questions I've received today... this was... the most...human!
Also a dumb rule - penalty for challenging a scoring play...
True... since the play is supposed to be reviewed anyway... but when it's already "been reviewed" and you throw the flag, now you're just delaying the game...
How badly will the Pats D destroy Palko tonight?
I think Palko (or perhaps a bizarre Palko/Stanzi hybrid) will be fine... Pats still should win, but I think KC QB will be respectable.
Gresham actually got a 3rd foot down out of bounds but still didn't get credit for a catch!
I agree it is a dumb rule, but it was applied correctly, IMO. Gresham in contact with the defender, then has to keep possession to the ground... and he didn't.
Thoughts on Forte ROS? He seems to have struggled the last two weeks. Do you think Barber's role will increase as well or remain goal line back?
Forte will be fine. If anything, Bears may run a bit more which would increase Barber's touches that way... but I don't think the Caleb call will impact Forte too much.
Step 1: Officials arbitrarily place the ball at a certain spot on the field. Step 2: Bring out a massive chain to measure whether the ball is exactly 10 yards past the last arbitrary spot.
We need lasers!
And we need more time... because of that we are sadly out. I'm on Twitter @ajmass for those I missed... Thanks for those who asked Q's! Until the next time, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
