It's that time again!!! Ready to talk golf and life for an hour? C'Mon with it!Tiger went 2-3 but with his performance in singles play, do you expect him to win next year?
Where are the fresh president cup interviews Sir?Discovered you two weeks ago, appreciate the freshness and real talk. Its much needed.
Thank you my friend. I wasn't there so no interviews but I'll be at the first two events of the year getting some GOOD stuff for everyone!
Hey, its 3pm and I'm here. Now can somebody please locate DJ's game?
Right on time! HA HA AHA HADJ's game is on his boat fishing, unfortunately it's been there for two weeks already.
Do you miss caddying?
yes. As much as I love this job and all my other jobs I've had in golf, I can't win when I don't caddy and I still hunger for a flag from the 18th green of a PGA Tour event. I have one from the Nationwide Tour. On the flipside, I haven't missed a cut in a while!
What was the best and worst thing about being a caddy on tour?
Best thing, I get to see the greatest golf in the world up close, AND get to be a part of it. Worst thing, missing the cut and seeing my boss/friend down in the dumps and sometimes having them take it out on me (even though I know it's not personal).
What equipment or tools do you use in preparation for a tournament that you cannot use during the tournament itself? And have you ever caused your player to incur a penalty for leaving any of it in the bag?
A caddy got the nickname Due North because he used a compass during a tournament. BIG no no! We can't use lasers, alignment sticks, etc. You can carry all of them during a tournament you just can't use them. I've never gotten a penalty for anything like that.
What Golf Course do you feel like that you are playing on a Mountain?
I don't understand the question.
What do you think about Gary VanSickle's suggestion that the President's Cup be the elimination contest to determine who meets the Ryder Cup Champion from the previous year?
I think it should be the other way around, winner of the Ryder Cup plays against the International team for the Presidents Cup.
They would have to change the name of it though!
Who were you most impressed with on the American side in the Prez Cup? How about who was the most unimpressive also...I would say Furyk was most impressive (when did he learn to putt?), and Stricker was incredibly unimpressive (probably wasn't fully recoverd from neck injury)
Furyk definitely, and seeing him get emotinal was great. I was most disappointed with Kuchar. 1-3-1 record? He's turning into a first half of the year player who burns out late.
Do you think tiger should play new orleans next year. His first foundation event ever was held here, yet no golf.
I do think he should play New Orleans, and not because people say he "owes" it to the city. But the course is one that I think sets up well for him.
Do you have the name of a good chiropractor? DJ is not a small guy
yes, and your caddies shoulders look much better too now that he's with you!
You heading to Chevron?
I am not. My next trip will be the first two events in Hawaii. Yes, I'm smiling as I write that!
Which do you think is more likely Tiger Woods breaking or tying Nicklaus' record, or Rory McIlroy doing the same? and do not answer neither.
Tiger is more likely. Unless Rory wins 5 majors in the next 3 years and right now I just don't see that.
Because we won, it is likely we will not be bombarded by over analysis of each player's performance during the President's Cup. However, the one person who appears to have challenges with this team format is Dustin Johnson. What is the "insider's take" about him and his lack luster performance during the Ryder Cup and now the President's Cup?
Well before everyone goes killing DJ too badTiger 2-3, Bill Haas 1-3-1, Matt Kuchar 1-3-1, and DJ 1-3-1So he wasn't alone in not having a winning record. Could've been Allenby 0-4!! Or Els 1-4 so go easy.
Do you think the players are more focused in alternate shot as opposed to when they play their own ball? With alternate shot, if the first shot is good, you want to match it, if it is bad, try to bail out your partner.
Not more focused but they may feel a different kind of pressure to hit a good shot and put their partner in a good position
Do you agree or disagree with Norman's comments after the round about changes to the President's Cup?
Sounds like what a loser would say. Stop crying and next time don't pick Allenby to be on your team.
I do have to admit STRAITS looks better spelled this way. And Collins, I don't understand any of Chris's questions yet they are answered continually in several chats!! I'm assuming he means which golf course is the most difficult to walk, etc... He should try walking Augusta for 10 "straight" hours. On a different note, I was very pleased for Jim Furyk. He really is a true professional and you could certainly tell this was a great way to finish a very difficult year for him. He's a real winner.
Furyk is the real deal. I'm not hating on Chris like you, I just didn't get what he was asking.
Furyk seemed to give a lot of praise to Phil, think it is authentic or just talk considering they won and be a good team member?
Absolutely authentic. It's why he got emotional talking about the fact that Philrequested he be paired with Jim because he (Phil) believed in him so much. That's saying something at that level especially with the year Furyk had. And when Furyk did his thing in singles it was a reflection of what Phil put in his mind.
While watching the Cup did Royal Melbourne remind you of any courses here in the States? Seemed to me like a one of a kind gem.
Exactly. Looked like a one of a kind because of how the wind could switch at any moment and the routing of the course. Brilliant.
It's definitely on my bucket list now.
Have you ever heard of guys coming unglued on their partners in alternate shot (or just after the round). We've tried playing it couple of times in our usual hack foursome, pretty funny how uptight folks can get.
Never heard of guys coming unglued during a match, but know of a player who ripped his caddie when his ball was over the green. Caddy calmly reminded the player they were playing alternate shot and he hadn't hit it here, his partner did. That was at a Ryder Cup!
Optimistic on Tiger's game, bc his ball striking actually looked good for two weeks & his short game much better. He was always a streakier putter than people realize, but I don't think he missed any 3ft's
If Tiger played N.O. it'd mean 3 tournaments in a row (quall then players), it's not happening. Do you think Tiger adds Pebble or Riv now that he's not playing Torrey?
definitely not Pebble, and he's really struggled at Riv but it has a better chance
Seeing the team comaraderie, the sportsmanship, gives sports a good name after the black eyes different stories have put on sports lately. Instead of a silly season - how about a tournament style of foursomes and four ball - get 32 teams and play it our weekly?
Sweet! One question though... when can we take some time off?
Did you ever caddie at Q School? Seems a bit odd to see Duval at the 2nd stage.
yes, and proud of DD for swallowing his pride and going to play. Q-school final stage is the longest toughest week of caddying I have ever been through. I need two full weeks to recover from the mental exhaustion it brings. I've cried twice after the final round of the four I've been to and both time it was because my player and his wife gave me credit for getting him thru. Still gives me goosebumps.
I understand they won but would have Keegan Bradley helped or hurt US?
that's like saying, Christopher Columbus was cool and all, but we'd still have a United States of America even if he didn't sail over right?
Final Stage of Q-School is coming up next week... Ever caddied in final stage? What advice would you give to a player who was about to compete in it for the first time?
best advice I can give a first timer, when the tee goes in the ground it's just golf. Like every other round you've played, don't make it mean more than it is. You're here because you're good enough, play your game, have fun, and it'll all work out fine.
How do you get your foot in the door to be a caddy, I know lots of people don't even understand how it works. Is it really just about getting lucky and finding the right player?
A lot of it is that but you have to know the game at this level too because it's more intense in some ways. Best way is to start at some mini tour events, caddy for free, get your feet wet, then go to Nationwide Tour work your way up. If you're good, you get noticed.
My wife wants to see a co-ed style Pres Cup, I say few would be interested in watching. Michael says ...........
The used to do it. JC Penny Classic was at Innisbrook in Tampa for years. No one watched.
Phil and Tiger seemed to get along well - is this new or has the perceived dislike between them been blown out of proportion?
Not new but not old either. They still didn't and shouldn't be paired together. But they are professionally amicable. How that for a PC answer!! LOL
Has the Social networks enhanced the PGA Tour? If yes, how? Yeah I know it has given you a better job, but you are awesome any how.
Well thanks man. And yes, I do think it's enhanced the game by bringing us closer to players we can't hang out with ie. Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Darren Clarke, alot of the Europeans who are not here in the states we get to see into a part of their life. Bubba, Stewart Cink, Rickie Fowler, all these guys that you can't hang with in person, you can with social media.
What is the Steepest Golf Course that you Played on?
played a course in Vancouver that had some SERIOUS elevation changes to it, and played a wild course outside Burlington, VT that was pretty steep.
And thank you for clarifying your question Chris!
How awkward if at all did Tiger Feel being by himself the whole week while every other guy had their GF/Wife along with them?
I don't think he felt awkward at all, and how do you know he didn't have someone with him on the down low?! Just cause you didn't see a girl, doesn't mean there wasn't one there.
Since the topic is Q-School final stage... if you were teeing it up as a player, what current tour player would you want on your bag?
Wow, great question! I'd either want Luke Donald, Nick Watney, or Rickie Fowler on my bag.
What do you think is holding back the growth of the LPGA Tour? I find the golf just as compelling, and the players, well, they're much easier on the eyes than, say, Furyk. I don't get why the men get more exposure, more events and more money than the women when they're just as good a product.
You ask for my honest opinion so please don't get mad when I tell you how I feel. Right now golf is about power. No women are consistently "overpowering" a golf course.
Now I do need to say this too. I love the game the women play and I love to watch the surgical precision they move around a golf course. I think the game is and will become even stronger and more popular as it's starting to grow again.
Is Dustin Johnson really as cool as he looks?
Can't lie, I do like him. He's pretty cool.
What is a typical "work week" like for a caddie? Were you carrying the bag pretty much everyday?
Travel on Monday a little bit of course work. Practice round Tuesday, then more course work on greens. Wed light practice unless we're in the pro-am and get with a couple caddie buddies to compare yardage book notes. Hopefully working all weekend!
Aw man!! It's over already. Strong questions this week again. Well done everyone. Bunch of questions I didn't get to but email me if you'd like and I WILL answer you. (people are always surprised when I write and I don't know why.)ESPNCaddie@gmail.comSee ya next week, same time!! Thanks.
