Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Yankees live chat. Not much going on but let's see if we can;t stir something up anyway
What would it take for you to switch beats with Adam Rubin? C'mon... Madoff, Skill Sets Wilpon, zombie David Wright, etc.
Honestly, I think I would get tired of covering so much bad baseball. Even for me, there's only so much enjoyment you can get out of perpetual misery
Who will be the New York Yankees Starting Rotation for 2012?
As of today, in order: CC, AJ, Hughes, Nova and Garcia, with Noesi lurking as an emergency starter
Apparently Sheff not coming out of retirement.Do you think the Yanks will make an offer to Oswalt??
Forget Pujols. Supposedly A-Rod is actually 47 years old. Would there be a way to check his birth certificate?
to hell with his birth certificate. get me an appointment with his doctor
Which prospects should I be excited for?
I think Banuelos is still a potential rotation star. I'm not sure if Montero still qualifies as a prospect but he showed plenty to be optimistic about for next year. The GM is high on Adam Warren and David Phelps,. and if Betances can conquer his control problems, he could be someone to reckon with. Further along, the Yankees have high hopes for Gary Sanchez. That seems like enough for now, no?
Hi Wally,Manny B., when do you think he will be up in 2012 and what do you think his 2012 stats and 2012 will be?
Hi, John. I think ManBan has an outside --OK, very outside -- shot of making the roster in spring traing, but more likely, the Yankees would like to see what he can do when he starts a season in AAA. Like last year, it will be performance based for him, needs-based for the Yankees. if he doesn;t make it out of the spring -- and my bet woiuld be he doesn't -- then you probably don;t see him until mid-season or later unless there's a drastic improvement by him or an emergency with the club
Do you think the Yankees will go after Buerhle or gio Gonzalez? They need to add someone else to the rotation
Hi, Natalia. The Yankees have been mum on who they do or do not like in this year's FA crop, but one thing I know is they don't like anyone's asking price. Of the two, I would think Buerhle is the better fit because he has a long track record of durability and performance. And since Gio is not a free agent, he would cost the Yankees some of those young prospects they profess to love so much. The Yankees would always rather part with money than players, and in that case, Buerhle is the more likely candidate.
Go for it all - Montero, Banuelos, Betances, Williams and Bichette for Clayton Kershaw. Who blinks?
The Yankees. There will be baseball in the future, you know
Can you confirm the rumor that Lonn Trost wanted to remove the bleacher seats altogether and have fans stand, with each allowed one square foot of space?
True. Imagine how many more bodies you can cram in without those pesky benches getting in the way
Who are the Red Sox and Red Sox fans fooling? Valentine is a good manager, but problem isn't with the manager. Wasn't with Francona, either. Problem is ownership-led bad decisions compounded by big-money "outbid everyone at all costs, despite if player is worth it or not" moves. Look at Boston's backend of their rotation and bullpen(or lack thereof). The BoSox's best move, the acquisition of Adrian Gonzalez, also costed them some of their most important prospects in which they'll never get back(especially with CBA changes). I know this is the Rays fan in me, but Boston's drop to mediocrity will be in full-effect very soon.
Much truth in there but you know it's a lot easier to replace a manager than a roster. And if notign else, it does appear the Red Sox need to hear a different voice in the dugout. and Valentine;s voice is certainly different from Tito's
I still have the Groucho glasses and mustache, so bring it on.
I wonder how much Girardi will like being your straight man?
Just wanted to say hey, and let the fans know I don't sign autographs, don't speak English (okay, okay...so I write it), want it in my contract that I only go 6 innings every 5th day, and I require my own full-time chef, masseuse, driver, trainer and dog walker. See you soon I hope!
Yu sound perfect. Welcome to the Bronx
By the way, this morning Brian Cashman "would not say" whether the Yankees had interest in either Matt Garza or Jair Jurrjens, did say Colon, Chavez and Andruw Jones were "possibilities" for return next year, and that there was nothing new to report in regards to Posada, who is a free agent
How many of those stupid Lonn Trost questions are you going to show? You do it every chat. So painfully unfunny.
thanks for chceking in, Randy Levine
Any new news on Jorge?
Cashman said nothing happening there yet. Looks as if there's no spot on the roster for Jorge unless the Yankees deal Montero, which I owuld think is highly unlikely unless some great deal came along
Great question on Darvish. Both are from Japan, therefore Darvish = Matsuzaka. Borderline racist question...
Not sure what the question is, but no one is assuming Darvish = Dice K because both are from Japan. It's more like the same problems assessing Darvish's ability to succeed in MLB exist becuase of difficulty of gauging quality of opposition faced as well as intangibles such as the adjustment to a significantly different culture and lifestyle. with the cost of posting fee plus salary, it's a very risky investmenbt for any club to make
Easier to replace a manager than overhaul a roster, however reports going out of Boston after Francona's departure was that they wouldn't hire a manager like Valentine. War between ownership and front office obvious, with blips about ownership pushing for Crawford while front office not and also Cherington wanting Sveum or Lemont and not liking Valentine at all. Which ownership member will be Nero playing the proverbial fiddle as Boston burns down?
Can't answer that. Not wired in enough to the Boston situation to tell you, nor is the Cherington Era in existence long enough to really determine who's calling the shots there
Jeremy Affeldt for the Yanks? What would it take?
Maybe swisher and a prospect or two. the Giants might need an OF now that Beltran is a FA, and ironically, trading Swish might bring Beltran to the bronx. But I don;t think Affeldt's worth it and neither, I'm sure,. do the Yankees
Phil Hughes: by end of year is he in the rotation, in the bullplen, or on another team?
If I could answer questions, the ones that require peering into the future, like those i'd make my living at the racetrack.Seriously, i know where Hughes will start the season -- as the Yankees No. 3 starter -- and Cashman told me he "believes without a doubt" that Hughes will return to 2010 form. After that, it could be any of the above.
Cashman was qouted as saying Noesi hit 98 in the Dominican...since when does he have that kind of arms strength?
don;t know. Maybe a Dominican radar gun is something like a Dominican birth certificate
Personally I think the Yankees should just try to get Buerhle at like a 2year deal and then wait till 2013 FA in order to get someone else if they have too. That way they can hopefully keep the great pitching kiddies like the Killer Bs and Phelps and all those for the next yrs to come. What do you think?
I'm sure Cash would prefer a one-year deal with an option for Buerhle but I agree with your hypothesis
Feliz, Crow, and Johnson all moving to the rotation. Too bad they screwed Joba up so badly, otherwise they would have their #2 already.
Do we know for sure that they screwed Joba up? Maybe Joba bears some of the responsibility too
Can the Yankees get Danks without including Banuelos in the pkg? Personally, I would chain him to the mound rather than trade him.
Can't imagine the Yankees would include ManBan in a deal for Danks. Not yet, anyway
How about I-Rod bearing some responsibility for Joba - he caused the arm injury on the throw to second in Texas. Joba was absolutely lights out as a starter before that moment. Never the same since.
At this point, I think Yankee fans have to set aside the past in regards to Joba and just hope he bounces back from TJ surgery this year to reclaim a spot in the bullpen, which will not be easy
Gotta run, people. A pleasure as always. we'll do it again next week
