Welcome to the chat. A rainy Friday in the Dallas area. So let's get to it.
Cowboys (opponents 24-31) and Giants (opponents 35-20), should the Cowboys have the division wrapped up in the next three weeks or will it come down to the January 1 Cowboys - Giants game?
Looks good, but the Cowboys have to play the Giants twice and the Eagles once the last month of the season. I would say the next three weeks would be important for the Cowboys to clinch the division title.
Hi Cal. When Austin comes back what kind of role do you expect L Robinson to play?
LeAnne,The biggest thing for Robinson is to continue to make plays as the No. 3 wideout in the offense. Austin and Bryant will get their touches, but when defenses try to shut those two down, Robinson should be there. He's a reliable weapon in the Cowboys offense. Romo trusts him and Garrett believes he can make the plays necessary to produce.
Calvin, do you see Dez becoming an offensive threat this year!!!?? We need him to bring his "A" game from this point on!!!
I believe Dez has done that every game this season. There were about three games where I thought from a physcial standpoint, his thigh was giving him problems to produce. The issue I have with Bryant is the Cowboys offense needs to find him the ball more often.
It seems that Dez will be returning a majority of punt returns but not all of them. Who are the other options here? Is Kevin Ogletree one??
Bryant should be the No. 1 guy on punt returns because he's the biggest threat on special teams. Ogletree isn't a threat in this area.
Good Morning Calvin,I've been wondering about FIAMMETTAS CONDITION he says hes feeling better however did the DOCTORS find out whats wrong & when can we expect him back on the field. Thanks Calvin
Tony Fiammetta is hoping to return next week for the Giants game. The Cowboys have missed his work of late but doctors are still trying to figure out what's wrong with him. The symptoms he's had have subsided.
Hello Calvin......do you expect Felix to get more carries this week?
I would think Felix Jones would get about 10-12 touches this week. Let's say he gets about three-to-four kick returns, about four passes out of the backfield and maybe four-to-five carries. The touches are split this way for him to keep him in the game. He's a valuable weapon the Cowboys need right now.
Who will be the Cowboys starting corners this week?
Mike Jenkins and Terence Newman are the main corners with Orlando Scandrick going back to the slot corner spot. Frank Walker and Alan Ball will also get snaps at corner in passing situations.
In next springs draft, what are the major needs for the Cowboys? (secondary, o-line, qb?)
Quarterback, guard, safety and defensive end.
How concerned should the Cowboys be about a trap game this Sunday?
Not concerned at all. I was more worried about the Miami game last week and I even picked the Dolphins to win. But it didn't work out. Expect Cowboys to win big this week.
Think McBriar's struggles with dropfoot will impact his ability to keep the ball away from Pederson?
He doesn't have any pain in the foot, but it still gives him some discomfort. He can't flex his foot on a consistent basis so that can be troublesome. Punting the ball out of bounds is difficult to do so the coverage team will have to get down field and surround him.
Hey Calvin, How much confidence do the Cowboys have in S. McGee? Is he a legit back up QB? ... And would the Cowboys make a claim for Donovan McNabb?
Cowboys will not claim McNabb. They do have some confidence in McGee but not enough to let him run the show behind Romo next season.
Who do you see the Boys facing wild card weekend?
Maybe Atlanta or Chicago at Cowboys Stadium.
Cowboys resign: A. Jenkins, B. Spencer, C. Robinson, D. ?
I let Spencer test the market, he's had a good season. Would like to see more pressures out of him though. Jenkins has one more year left and I'd play it out with him.Robinson is an interesting deal. He reminds me of Patrick Crayton and he got a four-year deal a few years ago. I would wait until the offseaso to lock him up.
Why don't the Cowboys just drop MartyB?? Or at least keep him off the field, unless it is special teams!! That guy never has lived up to the hype, and he never performs in the game!!
Martellus Bennett is in the final year of his contract and it makes no sense to cut him. Bennett should be more productive as a tight end. He's athletic and skilled but hasn't made enough plays to warrant a new deal at this stage.
Hello Calvin, we all love these chats thanks for the time. I want to know if Sean Lee's wrist is still improving and if he will me moving to a less ristrictive cast soon? thanks!
I did see Sean Lee today and his wrist looks almost normal. He will use a cast for the next couple of weeks, it wouldn't surprise me if the club cast is smaller than normal.
What the heck is up with Rex Ryan's hair ?'
He likes it long. He won't cut it.
its tough being a dallas fan stuck in NYC, but I looked it up and the cowboys can win the division if they win the next two games and Green Bay beats the giants....what odds do you give them to take care of business?
Cowboys should win the NFC East and host a playoff game at Cowboys Stadium. I think they might get Atlanta or Chicago in the wild card round.
Earl Bennett four years 19 million...Laurent Robinson????...any possibility that they lock this guy up for 3-4 years?
Good deal for the Cowboys. Bennett sets the tone for third receivers and it seems Robinson might be here a while. I don't think Robinson will get more than Bennett in terms of total salary but maybe $12-14 million is fair.
Calvin are u started to feel the same as me? Not signing namdi or joseph or a pass rusher like babin do u see it slowly taken its toll on our talentless secondary
No, I don't feel that way at all. Joseph has played well this season for the Texans. Babin isn't better than Spencer or Ware. The inside linebackers haven't played that consistent and that's a slight problem and Orlando Scandrick has also struggled at times. Containing the run game is an issue for the Cowboys the last few weeks. Beanie Wells might have a good day.
Would you use an early round pick on a QB?
Yes, I would. If you get a mid-to-late first round pick, get a quarterback.
With Tony Romo being the (supposed) leader of the team, do you know of or think Romo takes the time after practice and takes Dez to go over their timing and decisions on routes? With the type of talent that Dez has one would think that it is imperative for them to be on the same page down the stretch to have success and make a deep run in the playoffs.
Dez Bryant is working out with Tony Romo after practice and sometimes before practice. I don't think timing is an issue with Romo and Bryant. The issue for me is Bryant learning how to find open spots in the defense to make himself available for passes.
Why do fans expect so much out of Marty B when he's the sixth option behind Murray, Austin, Bryant, Witten and Felix? He's a good run blockers, correct?
Marty B is a good blocker. When he does get opportunities he needs to make plays.
Looking at some team's receiving situation, wouldn't letting Robinson test the market get more expensive?
Yes, it would be expensive, but he's only had one productive season and he's battled injuries. Not sure if he'll get a big money deal. Earl Bennett deal is what Robinson will make.
Hi Calvin. Appreciate your honest, sometimes pessimistic point of view - nothing worse than a homer with rose colored specs. That being said, I think this spring, Cowboys need to focus big time on O-Line. Kosier is reaching the end of the line, Costa is not a Center. Also need a young CB to start to phase out Newman.
I am worried about the guard spot. Not sure if Kyle Kosier will return and Montrae Holland and Derrick Dockery are on one-year deals.
Calvin, Would DeSean Jackson be a good fit in Dallas if Philly let him go?
Guys thanks for joining me today. Take care.
