Can Cruz make the Pro Bowl?
Wud up guys! Yes, he has a shot to make the Pro Bowl. He has been on fire. Keep it up in the last four games, definitely has a shot to make it.
Ohm, tough but encouraging loss on Sunday. I think the biggest key to beating Dallas will be to keep the heat off Eli. What kinds of things do you see Fewell doing to keep DeMarcus Ware and others from disrupting the passing game?
Rob Ryan will definitely try to bring the heat. Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride will probably have an extra blocker in there or a tight end to help. Having Ahmad Bradshaw back, who is the Giants best pass-protecting running back, helps.
Creeped into the playoffs at 6-7 (Don't Laugh). just lost Fred Davis to Off The Field Mistakes (Typical Trojan). I was wondering if u had any sneaky Free Agent TE's i could go after? Thnx
Congrats and not judging at all. One of my teams lost three straight games and still made the playoffs (No Vick, no Andre Johnson, lots of injuries). Off the top of my head... tight end is tough. Not many out there. I know Kyle Rudolph caught a touchdown the other day but he doesn't get a whole bunch of snaps. Is Fasano still available?
Ohm, our fate now lies in our hands. I believe in this team and TC, but does this team muster up the courage/strength/heart to win these 2 against Dallas and 1 more to take the division?
To be honest with you, I've always felt the Giants and Boys were going to split those two games. But if they play the way they did Sunday, they'll beat Dallas twice. It's hard to say my man. You just never know which Giants team is going to arrive.
Hey OHM..great work...tough loss for your spartans this past weekend...historically eli plays really well vs the cowboys in big D..but what do u think will be the keys to victory??
Thanks Mike. That was a really tough one to swallow but proud of the Spartans. Eli has to keep up the incredible play, Giants need to get the same type of effort from the running game and defense has to get to Romo. Must pressure Romo and hit him. And contain DeMarco Murray.
How much will the loss of Phillips reflect on the gameplay? Do you see the Giants going all the way?
It's a loss for sure. Kenny was one of the every-down safeties. Now you got Deon Grant back there and when they want to use three safeties, they will bring in Tyler Sash which actually will probably allow Antrel Rolle to play deeper more perhaps. As for the Giants going all the way, winning all four remaining games... my gut says 3-1 is more likely.
I?m not saying the G-men lost cause of the refs, but they certainly didn?t help. The Giants could stop going 3 and out at the worst times, not spot the Packers 7 points with an INT, and they could stop getting injured. But that Jennings catch was not a touchdown. If that was in the middle of the field it would have been incomplete, not a fumble. How can the NFL have such different standards for a catch?
Look, this is what I think when it comes to controversial calls... I blame the pick-six on losing more than any of those calls. You can't leave it in the hands of referees to pull out a win. Get a stop. Don't throw the pick-six. One of those things happen, and they win.
Hey ohm..love your work...what are the chances the giants re-sign Mario Manningham considering that victor cruz is having a great year and could play opposite Hakeem Nicks?
Thanks Ray. We'll have to see. I think they re-sign him but not to a ton of money. Have to see what else he gets offered. But with the emergence of Victor, Manningham doesn't become a must-sign player. But I do think they would like to have him back at right price.
What a coincidence that as soon as starters start healing up and playing more, Tom Coughlin starts coaching better. The Giants are lucky to have him. Talk about firing him is ridiculous. Your thoughts?
Yeah, I'd like to refrain from talking about his job until the end of the season. No sense in talking about it now.
I can't help but realize how much improved the Giants running attack looked on Sunday. Do you think it was because of Petrus/Boothe, a poor GB defense, the return of Bradshaw, or just the realization that "hey, our season can go down the drain"?
I'll take D. All of the above.
How much of an impact do you think Michael Strahan had on the defense? It seemed that at the very least our pass rushers got the message. Is this something Strahan will continue to do now that the Giants are essentially already in the playoffs?
I'm sure it helped. But I think Perry Fewell calling out his defense had more of an impact.
Whats up Ohm? Close game last sunday night and with the bears, Lions and Cowboys losing, the GMen still have a chance to sneak in. What bothers me is that the defense is currently ranked 29th and even if they make the playoffs, I dont like their chances. Your thoughts?
Defense still hasn't played a complete game and may not be that good enough to do so. But they can put together spurts. This team will be carried by Eli Manning and then it depends on how much help he gets from running game and defense.
Is it a necessity for the Giants to win out the last four games to make the playoffs? Or can they afford a speed bump along the way?
They can lose a game but there are a bunch of different scenarios. For the scenarios, check this out: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/9055/giants-playoff-scenarios
Well I want your opinion on the Giants vs. Packers game, was it just me or was it one of the most favored games a referee can go for? I mean come on, it was too obvious they were favoring the Packers...right? The running game was much better also, its about time .
I know why you guys feel slighted or cheated out of the win. But again, the Giants had a chance at the end to stop Rodgers and send it to overtime and they didn't and couldn't. And that had nothing to do with the refs. And if Eli doesn't throw that pick-six, they may have won. There's a lot of would'ves and could'ves... I think you need to look at how good the Giants played, the mentality they brought and hope it continues or the season will be over.
Spartan! Who will start in the place of Phillips? Is there any remote change that Reese's job is in jeaporday?
Rolle and Grant will start at safety. And then if Fewell wants to bring in extra safety, Sash could come in. I'd suspect a lot more of Prince and perhaps more three linebackers as he showed on Sunday.
ohmboy, wasup! Think the Giants can run the table. Really, all they have to do is win the three division games. Very "doable". Rosary beads may be in order.
Definitely doable. But will they do it? Can they beat Dallas twice? I can see them winning in Dallas. Winning at home in that last game of the year... scary thought. Washington will be no easy gimme either despite what their record is.
Does Pierre-Paul have the ability to become the next Strahan or Jared Allen?
Definitely. Once the guy learns the game completely, look out.
Hey ohm!! What kinda shot do the giants have at making the playoffs? do we NEED to win the division, or is there a shot at making it through the wildcard?
Hey Pete... check out the link I posted earlier about the playoff scenarios. There also is the ESPN playoff machine for you to play with any and every scenario possible. That thing is cool. It's in the link as well.
What up Big OHM, First, do u think they use more of Bradshaw this week, Second, Will Manningham be on the field this week. If not, do u think he is done for the season?
Bradshaw could get more work but I'd, personally, be careful because of the foot. He runs so damn hard. As for Manningham, he mentioned the possibility of surgery and how his knee is unstable. We'll have to see how he feels this week and if he can practice. But it didn't sound great last week.
Hey Ohm, any word on Baas' headaches?
Should find out more tomorrow. Don't want to speculate. Coughlin said same thing but said the Giants are close to figuring it out and have an idea what it is and how to treat it.
Ohm, love your work.. ur opinion on the mix up in the dallas game at the end? My feeling was that 90% of the blame is on Romo. 10 % on garret. with 2 timeouts left and knowing you wont run another play why would you spike the ball with 7 seconds left. take a timeout with 3 seconds left so it gives your special teams more then enough time to get ready. he should know better
Thanks Craig. I didn't get to watch the game live since I was with the Giants. But I saw the highlights. Was kind of baffling a bit. Now, ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins told me that Garrett's assistants were telling him to call time out thinking play clock had gone down. That would make sense for the timeout. Bottom line, Dallas messed up.
Ohm, I do agree that Cruz ideally would have a great shot at making the Pro Bowl, but I thought he wasn't on the Pro Bowl ballot? Is this inaccurate?
I'll have to check. That could be possible since he wasn't a starter earlier this year.
do you think the n.f.l. at least owes the g-men an apology, i mean they reviewed the ballerd td and still got it wrong, also if c.johnsons week 1 td catch was not a td then jennings catch was not a td, what do think
I know you guys have seen that Ballard picture. But I'm still not 100 percent absolutely certain that was a touchdown. Judging by what you see, it certainly seems like he is out and then he is in as well. As for the Jennings TD, yeah, I thought it wasn't a catch. But I'm just as confused as everybody else sometimes on what is and what isn't a catch. I'll ask the refs when we meet with them prior to next season about that catch.
NotoriousOHM...Sup man, great job so far! Question: Giants theme name this year, Hurt Locker room, with that being said, Is Sasha ready to play SS this sunday?
Thanks man. Sash may see some playing time on the field. He did so against Green Bay after Kenny went down. Still think we will see a lot more Deon Grant.
The playoff scenarios you gave are only for the division. Do the Gmen hold any tie breakers over the Lions, Bears, or Falcons?
Mike, try the ESPN playoff machine link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine That will answer every question you have.
Mike, try the ESPN playoff machine link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine That will answer every question you have.
Do you believe in me now or what?
Ohm, is the secondary as bad as it looked vs NO and GB or was it just that those are the top two passing offenses in the NFL?
Probably a little bit of both. But more the opposing offenses. But the secondary has problems. It has throughout the season.
Hey Ohm just throwing this out there we all saw what a force JPP was in the Packers game rushing from his natural RDE position. Being that in IMO he is the better all around player than Osi at stopping the run and rushing the passer do you see them starting JPP and bringing Osi in on passing downs?
Yeah perhaps... I did think one positive out of losing Osi was JPP on field more. But I don't know how Osi will feel about just coming in on passing downs. We'll see.
Any news about Osi's status for sunday?
Coughlin said day to day although hard to see him coming back this week.
Will Boley and Bradshaw start again Sunday? What about Prince?
Boley and Bradshaw did not suffer any setbacks according to Coughlin. As for Prince starting... I don't think so since I still see him behind Webster and Ross.
Unless they start with three CBs.
Ohm, keep up the great work at ESPN-NY. The picture that came out today of Jake Ballard in the end zone clearly showing how the ref's got the call wrong, do you see things like this as demoralizing or encouraging for this team? Riding a 4 game losing streak into december and Coughlin saying it made him sick aren't postive vibes coming from the GMEN. As a fan it makes you just as sick to know how close our Giants came to taking down the undefeated Packers and hand them their first loss at home. J. Tuck and A. Rolle are bleeding confidence right now which I love seeing/hearing, but do you think this Giants team can look at plays like this and still keep the momentum going into Dallas? Knowing how close you came to winning and going head to head with the Packers yet still going home with the loss, how do you think it effects this team down the stretch? As long as we have Eli I like our chances against anyone. Your thoughts?
Thanks. I think the fans are much more fixated on the calls than the Giants are. They definitely complained a bit about not getting a call but they are not so hung up on it that it will affect the way they play the rest of the season. I think the Packers game has injected them with confidence.
Will 2012 be the year they finally invest in a 1st round LB? Its about time they replace AP...
Depends... is the linebacker the best talent available at the time the Giants pick?
Travis Beckum started the game off with a killer catch and run--but what was he doing lining up out wide? Is this a new look? Any chance he gets some more playing time in the future?
They've lined him out wide often when they use him. They just don't use him often.
Is Prince supposed to be back anytime soon?
He played on Sunday and should be available to play this Sunday.
Hey Ohm. Your pick--Watch the Throne or Take Care?
Does Beckum have another good week in him?
Got to be used more than he has been to find out.
Alright guys! Thanks for the questions this week. Got to go write my column. Look for it on ESPNNY.com tonight. Thanks guys!
