Fantasy Injuries with Stephania Bell

Stephania Bell
  (10:04 AM)

Hi friends: Chatting early today due to podcasting schedule change- thx to those who could make it. Ugh -I had to play Peyton Hillis last night. My fantasy playoff season may be coming to an end. You have any better luck?

Drew (North Carolina)

Hey Stephania, appreciate all your great info. What are you hearing about Maclin? I've been hearing shoulder, but what was it? AC sprain? And the hamstring was the bigger problem with the setback. All I see is limited participant. Guess on him for Sunday. Thanks.

Stephania Bell
  (10:06 AM)

Drew: Thank YOU. Maclin did return to practice on a limited basis so the hope for the Eagles is that he can return Sunday. Don't imagine he'll be 100% but the question is how well can he hold up in a game? You're right, the hamstring was the bigger issue as it tightened up last week (which was why no practice) but the shoulder reportedly is a Grade 2 AC sprain so it won't be perfect either, but he can play through it. Wonder how many snaps he'll see.

Jim (Texas)

Hey Stephania, whats the latest on Laurent Robinson? I have to decide between gambling on him or playing Crabtree earlier in the day.

Stephania Bell
  (10:09 AM)

Jim: RObinson did not practice yet this week but he maintains that he will play Sunday night. One good sign is that after he suffered the mild shoulder separation last week, he did return to the game after they added padding to his shoulder area. Resting it may be the best thing so I expect he'll play - BUT now Austin will be back in the mix so may result in fewer points than he's been getting you.

Logan (Florida)

Morning Stephania! Word on J.Freeman? Strong enough to use this weekend or go with grossman/Palmer? Thanks

Stephania Bell
  (10:10 AM)

Logan: So far it sounds like he's doing what they hoped in practice. The report from Thursday was that he was "making all his throws" so if he can come back today and practice again, he should be good to go.

Falcons fan (Morehead, Kentucky)

What does the Raiders receiving corps look like? Is heyward-bey a better play over Bowe on Revis island?

Stephania Bell
  (10:12 AM)

The picture won't be clear until after today. Neither Ford nor Moore were practicing yesterday which would make DHB a better play. But the rumblings in Oakland are that Moore could (might) return today in which case he could play Sunday. Moore's presence really overshadows DHB. So if you can hang on until today is through, that will help you decide.

Gene (Baltimore)

Status of Andre Johnson and should I use VJax or L.Fitz as a backup plan(non ppr)? Thanks

Stephania Bell
  (10:13 AM)

Gene: You'll want to go to a backup plan. I know they're calling him day to day but honestly, after last week, I cannot imagine they put him on the field this week. They don't want him to go out for their potential playoff stretch. Expect it will be another week before he has a legit chance. For replacement, hard to beat Fitzgerald (although it is against my Niners, but admittedly, you can pass eaiser than run against them).

Bill (StL)

Stephania Bell
  (10:15 AM)

Bill: Back to limited practice yesterday and Frazier says he was cutting and doing some things he had not been able to previously. Still, they need to see how his ankle feels today after adding in all that work. If he's back in practice today, I expect he could play but he's by his own acknowledgment not 100% - have to believe they'll respect that and control his workload. (But if he plays and he's on your fantasy team, impossible to bench him. Just know it won't be what you usually get.)

J.B. (PA)

Bradshaw played last week but Jacobs was actually more effective. Would you advise starting either of them this week, Ms. Bell? Thanks so much.

Stephania Bell
  (10:17 AM)

J.B. That is true. Still Bradshaw is the one I go with. And neither has practiced yet - but both are expected back today. I expect he'll be the one to have the better day vs Dallas, whatever that means...

Christopher (DC)

What's up with Billy Cundiff, should I play it safe and pick up another kicker?

Stephania Bell
  (10:20 AM)

Christopher: Friday will be the clue. He missed Thurs practice with an apparent left calf injury. Anyone who knows me knows I don't like Thurs injury report additions but it's hard to know yet how serious this is. If there are kicker auditions in Baltimore Friday, we'll know it's likely more than a one day thing.

Jeff (Dayton)

Julio Jones upgraded to probable? You think he plays?

Stephania Bell
  (10:20 AM)

Jeff: Yes. Think he has been protected as a precaution to try to keep him from having injury setbacks.

dave (home)

any news on von miller and his thumb? i have both denver d and houston d and cant decide which d to play this week,if i win i have a chance to go from 4th place to 2nd!!

Stephania Bell
  (10:22 AM)

Dave: Looks like Miller will play. He's been out practicing with the team with his thumb in a cast and so far it's been going well. Expect him to play as of now.

James (Campbell, CA)

A.J. Feeley's current status?

Stephania Bell
  (10:24 AM)

James: He's been out of practice with a thumb fracture. It's possible that Brandstater (from practice squad) could be the starter this weekend vs Seahawks.

Bill (StL)

Stephania Bell
  (10:25 AM)

Bill: Looks like Vick is on track to start. He's been a full participant in practice. He's not 100% but the key is making throws, which he can do. He is expected to wear protective gear again (he's done so in the past) to help with contact but his best bet is to avoid as much contact as possible.

Dan (NYC)

Any concerns about Michael Turner's status?

Stephania Bell
  (10:27 AM)

Dan: No. Like Jones, they're controlling his practice so he can play on Sunday. However, the groin issue has been bothering Turner for some time and I think it's been impacting his power. So it may show up in terms of how effective he is but I do expect him to play.

scott (lansing, mi)

What is going on with Harvin? I see he got injured in practice. Will he play on Sunday?

Stephania Bell
  (10:29 AM)

Scott: Harvin apparently tore a ligament in his finger. Not sure which finger or which ligament but sounds like the team expects him to play through it with the help of some tape. Bigger issue might be keeping the headaches away.

mark (KC)

What are you hearing about the severity of Ingram's turf toe? Would I be better to go with Gresham or LDT as a flex?

Stephania Bell
  (10:31 AM)

Mark: He's downplaying it - but also making no guarantees about being on the field saying only he'll do what's best for the team. With turf toe tending to be lingering, I would not be surprised if he sits. Gresham prob my preferred choice of flex.

BJ (Indiana)

What will Big Ben look like going forward?

Stephania Bell
  (10:32 AM)

BJ: We'll see what happens with Ben's MRI today but it looked like a painful high ankle sprain. They don't play again until next Monday night so he has a nice long break. We probably won't know much until middle of next week (unless MRI shows significant damage).

Stephania Bell
  (10:33 AM)

OK gang - time for me to run. Abbreviated chat today b/c of scheduling. Best of luck in your fantasy playoffs! See you on Sunday!
