Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:02 PM)

Hey gang: Thankd for stopping by. My chat was almost cancelled for basketball reasons. Let's get to it - as always, all subjects answered. Let's have some nonsense with the footbal

jason (toronto, on)

who would you start - rothlisberger or matt ryan?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:03 PM)

I think you may have submitted this one too early...

destin garces (cape coral FL)

will matt forte play this regular season again

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:04 PM)

He's trying. You see this article about using a hyperbaric chamber? Insane. I would NOT drop him - he's definitely trying. Tough dude.

Sean (Canton, MA)

Who should I play this week, Toby Gerhart or Laurent Robinson.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:05 PM)

Well, a lot depends on AP of course. Stephania just said on the podcast that she thinks LR will play but keep in mind it's a Sun night game. If AP is out, go Toby. If AP is active, go Robinson and pick up someone like Doug Baldwin in case Robinson is ruled out on Sun

Adam L (San Diego)

You the man, TMR! Was going to get cute and start S Moss over A Brown, but changed my lineup 5 minutes before game time after reading one of your tweets (@MatthewBerryTMR- I'm a company man!). Quick question- better keeper for next year: Run DMC's upside or MJD's consistency?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:06 PM)

Nice! MJD's consistency.

Jay Ofsevit (Cubicle)

Yo Berry two parter (love and fantasy - coincidentally a great name for your auto-biography)1) Long distance relationships, whats your take?2) If Lebron James was starting at TE this sunday for the Dolphins where do you rank himmuch love

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:09 PM)

Thanks Jay. For those that missed it in yesterday's column, I'm writing a book and want great stories about fantasy - obsession, trades, disputes, wins and losses - anything funny, crazy, outrageous, etc. Email me at MatthewBerryTMR@gmail.com with BOOK in title if you want to be in the book. It's coming out from Riverhead Books (part of Penguin) in summer 2013.Have LeBron top 12

DP (Salt Lake City)

Miles Austin or Santana Moss?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:11 PM)

Please readm my rankings for all these types of same position / standard scoring questions. http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/football/ffl/story?page=11ranksWeek14WR

Clint (Toledo)

What is you opinion on "pirating points" from an opponent versus head-to-head matchups. Specifically, going up against a team with Tony Romo at QB, is it better to play Dez Bryant to steal Romo's points, or do I sit Bryant and play the Giants D/ST and hope for a terrible offensive Cowboys outing?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:14 PM)

My opinion is that I don't pay attention to stuff like that. Play your best team, period. If Dez is one of your best WR's, play him. If he's not, don't. Same for NYG D. It's getting too cute and doesn't mean it will work. Dez could have a good or bad game regardless of what Romo does. Romo doesn't care if you have Dez on your team or not. Just play your best team and let chips fall where they may.

murf (chicago)

If Andre and AP are both active would you play them?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:16 PM)

AP - Yes, I would. Too good of a matchup and he practiced some yesterday. Andre, no I wouldn't unless he showed up at practice today. Questions at QB, not a great macthup, HOU will run...

Matt (Indiana)

Thoughts on the Chris Paul issue?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:19 PM)

Think it's ridiculous of the NBA and if I am a NO fan, I am upset. You're not going to get a better package for CP3 than the HOU/LA combo. Frankly, I didn't love the deal for LA as a Lakers fan. Unless LA was also getting Howard... that deal left them with only the injury prone Bynum as a big. So I'm sort of relieved as a LA fan, assuming Gasol/Odom can play hard still knowing they were almost traded. But if you've listened to the pod, you know I am anti-veto, period. It's actually a fair deal for all 3 teams and much more fair than the KG to BOS trade or the original Gasol to LA deal.

Alex (Rados)

Loved you in the league Berry you are awesome. So to the question, I know you have the rankings but i just need to know your explanation and who you would choose at flex. Steven Jackson or Plaxico Burress? Thanks dude your the best!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:20 PM)

If I need upside, go Plax. If I just need some pts, go S Jax. I'm really down on S Jax this week. Bad O line, 3rd string QB, bad matchup...

Erik (Bloomington, IL)

If you use my story in your upcoming Fantasy book, can I get a piece of the royalties?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:20 PM)

Nope. You get a free copy of the book and your name in print.

Ryan "TBone" (Wisconsin)

Hi Matthew,Great Love/Hate this Week. I totally agree with you on DeSean. I also feel the same about Michael Vick this week. I was lucky to take your advice on Stafford as I got him really late. I have a feeling that Vick is going to back with bang just like he did last year after the Broken Ribs. Is it crazy to start him over Stafford?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:24 PM)

Thanks. I have Stafford higher than Vick in my rankings. Hint, hint. taking this question because a lot of questions on what to expect out of Vick. I like him this week, but then again, I always like him. He's certainly risky and in the playoffs, I like to go safe. So if you made the playoffs, chances are you've got another good QB in addition to Vick.

Joe (WI)

Hey Matthew...on the podcast yesterday you said you tend to go conservative during the playoffs (yes Im one of the few that dload AND listen)...in that case, what do you do with AP if he plays this week? He certainly won't be getting a full workload, will he? Thanks for all your help this year.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:25 PM)

Same issue. The case here, however, is it's AP. Even AP at 70% is better than most RB in the NFL. If I own AP, I'm probably playing him.

The Bitter Berry (Squeak Squeak )

I have been very Bitter about Freeman all year, roll with him or with your boy Sexy Rexy? 4-12 the hard way!!!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:26 PM)

Not convinced Freeman plays

Cal (NYC)

You single-handedly convinced me to keep Antonio Brown in my line-up last night, and for that I thank you. So now with Brown's points, if my playoff opponent has a ton of potential monsters (Stafford, Ryan, Foster, Turner, Fitzgerald, VJax & Welker) do you think it's worth playing it safe with four RBs in my lineup (one is CJ Spiller) or sticking a WR with a potential high upside in there (like Torrey Smith or Malcolm Floyd)?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:27 PM)

Go safe - pad that lead.

Paul (NH)

Barber or Torrey Smith?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:27 PM)

Barber

Matt ((Chicago))

laurent robinson or willis mcgahee against the bears D?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:29 PM)

McGahee

Cupid (Love Mountain)

Talented Mr. Love Guru! If this fantasy stuff doesn't work out, I got a job for you up here at the Mount. You lovin Pierre Thomas if Ingram is out? What about MoMo if K Smith is out? XOXO

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:30 PM)

Yep. I don't think Ingram plays - I ranked Pierre Thomas at 24 this week.

weasel dog (frozen tundra)

Am I insane for thinking about starting GB RB Saine???

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:31 PM)

You're not INSANE if you're really that desperate. I thught he looked like the better RB than Grant. But it's VERY VERY risky and I wouldn't do it if I could avoid it.

Mike (Raleigh)

Donald Brown, Santana Moss, or TB Mike Williams?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:32 PM)

Williams

Erik (Bloomington, IL)

Why do you like Anquan Boldin better than the other rankers?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:33 PM)

He gets the most taregts on BALT, Indy doesn't have a corner that can match up with him, they will throw some. Lotta Ray Rice in this game but they'll throw enough

Bryce (Charleston, SC)

I've discovered the formula to getting a question answered: STEP 1: Kiss your podcast award-winning rear end, call you a moron, or give you a left-handed compliment. STEP 2: Ask a semi-relevant fantasy question/your favorite kissing scene from 90210. So here's mine ... If you grew a beard you'd have more hair on your head than not, so tell all those bald haters to bite it. That said, what are your suggestions for making sure the team with the most points doesn't get left out of the playoffs just because they played the wrong team each week? (Surprisingly I ask because I am in 1st in points, points against, and 8th in my league.)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:37 PM)

Hahaha. Maybe. I like the idea I mentioned in a column that we do in a league I play in with the guys on the Howard Stern show. 10 tm league. You get 1 win for beating your opponent. So 5 teams get a win when they win a head to head matchup. then, the 5 teams that score the highest points that week also get a win. So you have a chance every week to go 2-0, 1-1 or 0-2. helps against situations like yours. No website that I know of offers that scoring system - we do it by hand.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:37 PM)

Sean, in Overcast FLA. Can't talk about it but it's totally legit.

jacob (kc)

Moss or Benson at Flex?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:38 PM)

Benson. More touches guaranteed.

Eric (FL)

What are thoughts on Maclin this week?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:39 PM)

Think he has a solid game and is the best of the PHI WR

Patrick (Chicago)

If you were in a fantasy league with Stern, you would find a new league, right?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:39 PM)

Yep

Parker (Halifax)

Also I was confused on the Thursday Podcast, does management really want it shorter? Because I wish the nonsense could stretch to 2 hours.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:39 PM)

There's been a request to keep it under 30 min, yes. We're ignoring it for now.

Mike (DC)

You didn't respond to the question about MoMo...expect anything good from him if K. Smith sits????

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:40 PM)

Not really. Flex play

Nate (My Bosses Computer)

You do know McGahee hasnt practiced yet this week. In a PPR, Spiller, Laurent or The Willis at Flex. I luckily have Ray rice and MJD!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:41 PM)

I do, but just finished doing pod with Stephania and she expects him to play. She's fairly money with this kind of stuff - she knows people on and/or around every team.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:41 PM)

Oh, and to answer question, I'd go Willis

Nathan (Dallas, TX)

Can you defend your ranking of Steven Jackson? I don't see him finishing in the top 20 RBs given the current situation.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:42 PM)

I agree with you. I ranked him 23.

Big Dan (Parts Unknown)

Come on Berry, you never answer my question and the playoffs are on the line. Pick one to start: L Robinson, B Lloyd or V Davis at TE/WR flex in PPR league.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:42 PM)

Robinson if healthy, otherwise Lloyd

Mo (Los Angeles)

Why does KC Joyner look so smug in his ESPN pic? Can I trust someone who looks as smug as he does? Just wanna say thanks for getting me to semis in both my ESPN leagues.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:44 PM)

Ha. KC might be the LEAST smug guy I know. Very unassuming, very nice. Pictures are weird. I hate pretty much every photo of me. I can't comment.

Marcus (Cville)

Just tell that Percy can catch the damn ball with a torn ligament in his finger!!!! Please sir....

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:45 PM)

I'm starting Percy, assuming he's active. Especially if Ponder and AP are out. He's their only playmaker.

Rob (Frankfort, IL)

Now that DeMarco has his FB back will he start snapping again?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:45 PM)

I think so, yes

Jake (Chicago)

Can we trust Tebow to put up the same numbers he has lately. Or will the bears defense finally shut him down. Have to pick between him or Sanchez. Thanks Matthew and happy holidays.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:47 PM)

I think Tebow has a good, not great game. Think CHI is toughest challenge he'll face (after that DET game) but that ultimately he'll put up solid if unspectacular pts.

Mike Tirico (Somewhere ignoring the MNF theme)

How do you feel about S Moss this week? Obviously has a great match-up, and after just reading Harris' Hard Count, think he's due for a great game! I guess I'm just nervous cuz hes a lil lower in the ranks than I thought he would be..

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:49 PM)

Haven't read Chris' column yet but certainly, we've seen lot of WR have success against NE and Moss IS a guy getting a lot of targets, so yes, I could see it. My only fear is loss of Trent Williams (and Fred Davis - so they'll focus on Moss more) could mean slightly lower production. But yeah, not a terrible play

Andrew (Denver)

For keeper upside, do you like the more short term (Lynch for $9) or R Bush ($6) or the longer term Ingram ($9) - Do you agree after this year it will be easier to get Ingram back in auction with his platoon situation?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:50 PM)

I tend to like the more short term for RB - their shelf life is so limited anyways and value changes so much...If I had to make that decision today, I'd go Lynch

Nico (Philadelphia, PA)

I'm already in the playoffs, my squad is solid (Helu, M.Wallace are on my bench this week, that type of solid)...so all I really want to know is if your book is going to finally reveal the actress?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:51 PM)

Hahahaha. Hadn't thought of that. I probably should, huh?

Keith (Chicago)

You have Pierre Thomas ahead of Tolbert, why is that when BUF Run D is terrible and the Saints have Ivory Sproles and Thomas in the backfield?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:52 PM)

Think PT gets more work than Tolbert and TEN is equally bad vs the run.

Will (DC)

Help! 14 team league. Your rankings don't account for PPR and receivers that suck worse than #50. Riley Cooper or Brad Smith at flex?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:53 PM)

I'd probably take a flyer on Smith unless Maclin was suddenly ruled out

Mike (Indianapolis)

Plax, Ingram, or Crabtree?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:54 PM)

Crabtree

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Thoughts on Pujols? And with "I'm a man, I'm Forte" out...have to rely on Helu...great...am I screwed?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:55 PM)

Very excited about Pujols. It's not my money, so I'm thrilled they got the best player in baseball.

Kevin (San Diego)

Great article about writing in Writers Digest and solid appearance on the League.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:56 PM)

Thanks. The article wasn't mine. I've never written for Writer's Digest. There IS another writer named Matt Berry - maybe he did it.

mark (lexvegas)

nice call on wallace berry. did you see who was on brown most of the night? haden

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:57 PM)

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic but it was a good call. He had seven points. Got lucky with the call that it wasn't a TD, but certainly, seven pts won't be a top 10 play this week and I had him outside my top 10.But to your point, yes, Haden was on Brown some as well. Just shows the respect folks have for Brown. He's terrific.

Tony (Chicago)

I noticed that you were the only one to rank Rivers over Tebow this week. Now that Rivers has his receiving corp back and healthy, do you feel that Rivers has higher upside than Tebow?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:58 PM)

Correct. Also, the lack of a pass rush for BUF

Hater (Hating)

Can't wait to spend money on your book, read the whole thing twice, listen to it on tape, and then tweet what an idiot you are and how much it sucked. Take that B**** (and I didn't spell Berry)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (12:58 PM)

Hahahaha. Yeah, guessing I'll get some of that

Josh (Richmond)

Harder fantasy competition: Schefter or Mort?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (1:01 PM)

Both are really good players, but Mort's made the playoffs in this league two straight years, so I'll give him a slight edge. You can definitely tell what a team is thinking about doing by the moves they make - they are so plugged in it's scary.

David (New Rochelle, NY)

I was convicned by your preseason work to get betrothed to Michael Vick. Now as my playoffs begin, do I start Vick or Tbow this week? I see everyone's rankings but need your verbiage to sway me. Thanks..

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (1:03 PM)

Vick has more upside, Tebow is the safer play. I have Vick ahead of Tebow this week, but I'd tell you that if you squaked into playoffs and need to shoot for the moon, go Vick. If you're loaded elsewhere and just need some solid production, go Tebow.

mark (lexvegas)

I was being honest. Good call on wallace. Maybe haden isn't as good as you thought. I started brown and am very happy.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (1:04 PM)

No, Haden just slipped on the big play. He's a stud. But so is Brown. Glad it worked out for you!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (1:06 PM)

Ok gang, that's all the time I have. Doing WEEI in Boston in 10 minutes, the Scott van Pelt show in 40 and then taping something for NFL Live. Be sure to tune into Fantasy Football Now on ESPN2 on Sunday morning at 11:30am ET. I'll try to answer more questions on Facebook (www.facebook.com/matthewjberry) and on Twitter (@matthewberrytmr). Thanks and GOOD LUCK!
