Chat with Jean-Jacques Taylor

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:01 PM)

I've got some repairman at my house, so this should be fun. Conversation about the Cowboys, Mavs, Rangers and my beloved Sky High's controversial loss to Southlake Carroll is all good.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:01 PM)

let's roll.

Gary (Los Feliz)

This is exactly why Garrett needs to be fired. There is no room for error in this league. Mismanaging games through the year has finally caught up with this team...

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:04 PM)

You can't go firing your coach every year. I think Garrett is going to be a good coach. This is his first time as a head coach at any level, so he's going to screw up from time to time because he's doing things he's never done before. That's not an excuse, but reality. I thought this was an 8-8 team when training camp ended. They're ahead of the pace I set for them. They struggle consistently with bad teams. I'm not sure what your expectations were for them. Garrett remains a smart guy and he'll correct the mistakes he's made

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear Jean-JacquesCould you see Ron Washington on the hot seat?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:05 PM)

Why? For getting the Rangers to the World Series in consecutive years, something no other manager in the history of the franchise has ever accomplished. For improving his record each of his five years on the job and for having a clubhouse of players that play hard for him 162 games a year? I don't think so. He's not perfect, but he's a good manager

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:10 PM)

repairmen have gone....for those of u who care...new HD in movie room is off the hook...Ok, back to the chat...lol

Justin Tyson (Bossier City)

This defense is horrendous!! They lack a pass rush opposite dware, they dont have the corners that can survive very long without a pass rush...If he declares the cowboys need to do what ever possible to move up and get LSU's Morris Claiborne...They already let Patrick Peterson get away..I think mo is a better tru shutdown corner...Runner Up Dre Kirpatrick of Ala

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:11 PM)

So you're saying it's not Rob Ryan's fault? I have no problem picking Tyron Smith over Patrick Peterson. All of Peterson's exploits have come as a punt returner - not a CB. Defense has too many average players and not enough playmakers

raul (rio grande city Texas)

JJT, this Defense lacks the killer instinct that closes out games...is there a college player that can come in and be plugged in and help out? The passrush was not there late in the 4th quarter.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:12 PM)

It's too early for me to say. I don't pay attention until the draft until April.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who is the worst team in the Dallas Area for the last 3 years?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:12 PM)

Why are you so negative. It's probably the Stars, if we're talking pros.

Joshua Bell Dallas Texas [via mobile]

Now that we see that the Dallas cowboys is an average team, would you trade Tony Romo for a first round pick in 2012? I know I would! Build up that secondary and with dallas own pick draft RG3!!!!! What would you do cause we know Jerry ain't thinking like?!?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:13 PM)

what makes you think some other club wants to do that? Romo isn't really the problem, right now, it's the defense that stinks

Adam ( Toronto)

Ware is probably the best or one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, but how does he take so many offside calls? I just don't see it happen that often with the other elite pass rushers, yet without fail, 1-2 every game.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:15 PM)

just about every great pass rusher has some offside penalties because they're trying to get such a good jump. It's part of the package you must accept when you have a pass-rusher such as Ware on your club

Adam ( Toronto)

Dallas loses in December and the end result for weeks, months, years to come will be a L on Romo's career record in the month. Seems really unfair given he did everything possible to win that game.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:17 PM)

That's life in the big city for NFL quarterbacks. They get the glory and the criticism. It comes with the job - kind of like mine without the $65 million contract...lol

raul (rio grande city Texas)

JJT, Aaron Rodgers has the discount double check thing that he does when he throws a TD...should Tony Romo do the Six Shooter smoking guns thing?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:18 PM)

Aaron Rodgers has a SB rung is 13-0 this season and is about to be named MVP. he can do whatever he wants. Tony Romo's team is 7-6. He just needs to win games.

sahar (Israel)

we still must get C. Maybe Dalembert. I think Fernandez is useless for this Mavs team. We should either try and trade him for Dalembert or let him go to Madrid. Agree? what other options we have at C?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:19 PM)

The Mavs don't have the cap room to trade for Dalembert after acquiring Odom...Brandan Haywood will have to do, though Dirk and Odom will also get some time there

David (Plano)

Assuming we have just 14 players. Chances of the Mavs signing Nene for 17 million one year deal.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:20 PM)

None. Why would he sign a one-year deal?

Kobe (Dallas)

Are the Mavs planning a big deal soon for one of the three big free agents?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

They're talking to Howard's agent, but I don't think they have the assets to get it done...They hope Deron Williams will sign with them as a free agent in the summer of 2012, but that's a huge if

MFFL (Allen)

Mavs 2010-2011 vs Mavs 2011-2012

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:23 PM)

For now, you'd have to pick last year's squad because of the chemistry, defense, ball movement and heart

Ernie (Fort Worth, TX)

...so how about a silver lining? With everything we've come to know of this team in recent years, did we really want them in a position where the playoffs were perceived to be in the bag and they could take it mostly for granted? Seems like a greater opportunity for letdown if you ask me. And we know they're really good at that, right? I think I prefer their route to the playoffs to be the way it is now.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:23 PM)

I'll buy some of that

Shawn (Ashe County, NC)

What's up JJT? Man, I so disappointed with the boys that I could spit. I hate that the allowed Eli and the G-Men to come beat them at their home again and again. Anyway, What do you think of Jacob's dance on the DC helmet in the endzone? I thought it was disgraceful and disrespectful? Your thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

He's a loudmouth and I wouldn't want him, but if you get in the end zone, then you get to dance

Greg (CT)

Will we have an O.C next year? Haley, Sparano probably Turner will be available.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:26 PM)

i don't think Garrett could or would subjugate his ego enough to give up the play-calling, but based on his time management issues this season it might be a good idea for a year or two, while he gets used to being a head coach. If I had to pick one, then I;d say it would be Sparano. Turner might cost too much and I'm not sure he has a relationship with Haley.

Mike (Dallas)

How did Sean Lissemore play in relief of Jay Ratliff? He seems to play pretty well in limited action. Is there any reason to believe he can be an upgrade over any current starter in 2012 after a full offseason and conditioning program?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:27 PM)

Lissemore has a high motor and seems to always be making a play. He reminds me of Stephen Bowen. I'm not sure yet where he fits, but he's doing a nice job this season in about 20 snaps a game

Fenster (LBI NJ)

Merry Christmas brother. Tell me the last time Demarcus Ware has been dominant in a big game? Sure he puts up plenty of sacks, but big players do it in BIG spots.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:29 PM)

Of all the defensive guys you can rip on, why would you pick Ware? There's no pass-rushing threat on the other side, so Ware gets double and triple-teamed with regularity. I'd rip on Newman or Scandrick or Sensabaugh or Bradie James or Marcus Spears or Alan Ball or a host of other dudes before I got around to Ware, Ratliff and Sean Lee.

Greg P. (Shelton, CT)

If you had to pick the key flaw in Dallas that is causing all of these agonizing loses what would it be? Is it lack of talent, proper coaching, mental toughness?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:30 PM)

I'd say they're mentally weak. That's why they find such creative ways to lose.

Greg (Shelton)

Jumping ahead, what position do you feel Dallas needs to eye in first round, please say CB

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:31 PM)

Personally, I'm not into the draft. I'll pay attention to it in April

brian (corsicana)

JJT-i keep reading that howard would come to dallas, but what would we have to give up to get him here?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:31 PM)

no idea. I don't see any players the Magic would want for a talent like Howard

jamal (iowa)

what it dew JJT whats playing on the ipod for today?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:32 PM)

lol...watching Law & Order, while I chat today...

WalkWithT-New (Dallas)

What are the chances the Mavericks get Dwight Howard? Do you believe that is why Corey Brewer and Rudy are rumored to traded?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:32 PM)

None.

Matt (Stillwater)

Is Carlise going to use Mahinimi or a Dirk/Odom combo more at C?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:33 PM)

Mahinimi will get some time, but so will Odom and Dirk. You know how Carlisle likes to mix and match lineups

Mike Chambers (Madisonville, KY)

Think we all forget at times that there wasn't any OTA's or full blown off season this year due to the CBA. How much does that play into the Cowboys Def playing this year, as well as if Ryan is throwing too much at them and blowing assignments?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:34 PM)

It's week 13. I can't give them that excuse. Bottom line: They don't have enough good players on defense

Aneesh (Chicago, IL)

Hi JJT...2 questions to start. Was Terry's Finals Game 5 26-footer over LeBron the biggest shot in franchise history? Second, can you rank the NBA Western Conference 1-3 based upon where rosters stand now? Love your work...

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

It was in the top 5, but can't say it was No.1...That's something we might have to look into, though. Teams are still setting their rosters, so I'm not sure I can rank them. As of today: OKC, San Antonio, Dallas

Casey (Houston)

Bottom-line. Are the Cowboys going to make the playoffs?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

nope. I don't see them winning in New York on New Year's Day

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

So JJT, this is what I love about the Cowboys: whether they lose or win, it always happens with fashion and style. If the NFL used a BCS formula, I could see the Cowboys being ranked higher than most 3 or 4 loss teams due to how well they lose.....your thoughts

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

interesting...lol

Ben (ATL)

How career threatening is D. Murray's fracture/sprain to his ankle?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

he'll be back. No problem

jamal (iowa)

i so at a lost for words in the cowboys lost sunday. do you think this is still a 8-8 team?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:37 PM)

maybe. No better than 9-7

byron moten (dallas, tx)

Whats your take on the Mavs this season?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:37 PM)

Odom makes them a contender in the Western Conference. Before the addition, the Mavs were a 6th seed. Now, top 4

Warren (Washington DC)

Do u think Scandrick should get the Start over T Newman since he did sign an extension and we all know Newman will not be here next year?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:38 PM)

Nope. Scandrick has proved better in the slot than outside

Willow (Southside)

The Cowboys Stadium used to have a whole in the top so that God could watch the Cowboys. Now that his son has returned as the QB of the Broncos, should they finally enclose the top?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

maybe. I'll ask Jerry the next time I see him

Jon (Fairfield, CA)

JJT, any truth to the rumor that Garrett has "lost" this team? Sounds ridiculous to me!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

I wouldn't think so

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Doesn't it feel like Cuban still has 1 more trade in him before the season starts, or is it just me?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

I'm sure he's trying. He's always trying to upgrade

MJ (Los Angeles)

You were 1000% correct this was a team loss. No excuses, Dallas is just an above average football team. Not elite, not bad, just above average. What odds do you give this average team of winning the next 3 in row and making the playoffs?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:40 PM)

25 percent. I came to that conclusion after the Seattle game

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:41 PM)

25 percent. I came to that conclusion after the Seattle game

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:41 PM)

25 percent. I came to that conclusion after the Seattle game

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:41 PM)

25 percent. I came to that conclusion after the Seattle game

Ron G. (Santa Monica)

did you hear Bill Cowher's comments that this Green Bay team is the "greatest" ever? With that current defense they have, I think not. The Cowboys of the 90s could beat that team. Keep the ball away from Rogers with Emmett's running game. And that stout D. Cowher is off his rocker. Your thoughts.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:42 PM)

the 49ers from the early 90s would give them problems. So would the Steelers of the 70s.

Joe (California)

When is the media going to demand answers to the tough questions as opposed to taking 'processing' as sufficient?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:43 PM)

you can't really demand answers. All you can do is ask pointed questions

Joe (California)

Are there any other options out there for signing a strong CB?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:43 PM)

no

EMI (Moon)

Does kobe have the right to be upset with the trade of odom? I mean, this was a poor decision from my view.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:43 PM)

Absolutely.

mark (wyo)

jean big fan do you like mavs sighning vince carted i know he isnt was he use to be but he still averges 17 points a game and is a solid shooter your thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:44 PM)

I don't really care. He's not Vinsanity anymore. He's a pretty good scorer off the bench, and on a given night he can dominate. He could have one those games in the postseason like Peja did against the Lakers

Robert (FTW TX)

I keep hearing about this TV deal being so huge for the Rangers, but the only big time signing they have brought in was Adrian Beltre. If the TV deal is so big, why the short leash on spending? Let's go get Prince Fielder!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:46 PM)

The deal doesn't kick in until 2015. They're trying to be conservative because in the next few years Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, Neftali Feliz, Elvis Andrus, Derek Holland will all command big deals.

Bryan Garwood (Austin, TX)

Do you think the Mavs are done with making moves? We seem a little unbalanced at point and Center and just tons of 2, 3, 4's. I think we will provide great matchup problems with Dirk and Odom, but I can't figure out this roster

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:47 PM)

They've put together a pretty good team on paper, but we won't know what they are until 20 game into the season. A backup point guard will be nice, but Delonte West is supposed to handle those duties.

ed (marksville)

you can't give the def a free pass, but that guy they call Eli is pretty good late in games. I'd put him up there with the top as far as clutch goes. that secondary we know would get lit up by eli, but the run def is concerning as well. you used to hear about stopping the run 1st. Jacobs runs were just too easy. force more 2nd and 3rd and longs would be a help.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

when you blow a 12-point lead in the last 5:41, it's usually the defense

John (ATL)

Do you think Mike Jenkins is most likely best DB Cowboys have? He was the only one who when Manning threw to didn't have success against & that's kinda sad when Jenkins was playing with one arm better than most of other DB's

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:49 PM)

Jenkins, when he's healthy, is playing pretty well. He lost about 10 points and really studied his technique and made some subtle adjustments that has made him a better player

Robert (FTW TX)

What do you see as more likely for the Cowboys?...A Coordinator switch at years end? orA lot of personnel moves on the defense at seasons end?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:49 PM)

defensive personnel moves

Dustin (Howard)

JJT how have been around and each year we see the same thing. Losing games in big moments, losing close games, mental break downs. Its has been going on for a long time. We have new coaches, same result. Romo has improvent, same result. What has to change to stop this? The only thing that is stoping this team from being great, is them. As a fan it is very fustrating to watch it.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

They have to get more good players. Too many drafts have been worthless. That has to stop

Ron G. (Santa Monica)

what's your take on Sammy Morris? he's older than Tiki Barber and I would have thought that the Boys might have given him a look. I'm not saying sign him but at least see what he has. he might have an axe to grind against his old team.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

I'm sure they just don't want him to screw up. At this point of the season there aren't many choices

Jon (Fairfield, CA)

Why is Alan Ball still on this team. If I have to see #20 flailing after a WR again, I am going to scream!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:51 PM)

Ball's problem is that he's been overexposed because of the injuries in the secondary Dallas has had this season

Amanda (shawn's Girl) (Ashe County, NC)

JJT, Why is my finace' such a dallas guy? He lives and breaths Dallas. We have a team in our backyard and he never supports them. What am I to do with him?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:52 PM)

tie him up and walk in wearing a Cam Newton jersey...lol

Chris D (Chandler, AZ)

We have barely made any improvements the last 2 off-seasons outside of the draft. The moves they made have been financialy motivated. If the Boys miss the playoffs will Jerry finally be aggressive and go get some help ?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:53 PM)

You don't buy titles in the NFL. You build them through the draft. The Cowboys have had too many awful drafts

Robert (FTW TX)

Trade?Rangers send Elvis, Matt Harrison, Mike Olt, Tanner Scheppers, Mitch Moreland to NY Mets.METS: Send David Wright, Daniel Murphy to Miami MarlinsMIAMI MARLINS: send Handley Ramirez and Emilio Bonafacio to Texas. What do you think?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:54 PM)

Run that past Ben & Skin...That's too much for me to absorb in the final four minutes of this chat

Jim (Maine)

How is Kitna's back and are the Cowboys still monitering bringing in another veteran like Mcnabb or someone else?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

I'm not expecting him back this season

mark (wyo )

y is nobody talking about it being a good move that the mavs got vinsanity ya he may be getting old but the fact is last year he was still averging 17 points a game and can still shoot the ball very well your thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

I'm not expecting much. He's 35 and didn't show much interest at various times last season. Perhaps a championship run will inspire him

raul (rio grande city texas)

what happened to Julio Borbon? he was on the WS roster last year but did not see him this year..

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

broke his ankle after he was sent down to triple A

reggie (dallas)

what's your opinion on the skyline game? why did samples keep going for it on 4th down?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:57 PM)

I wasn't at the game, but typically when you play better opponents you should play field position and force them to drive the length of the field on a regular basis.

Jon (Fairfield, CA)

Jerry has looked absolutely grief-stricken the past few weeks. Please tell me that he doesn't do anything rash and fire Garrett at the end of the season?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:57 PM)

He has too much ego to do that.....I think

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

JJ Buried

PL (SC)

JJT, Please answer the question,I'm tired of this team flip flopping....playoffs or home sir??

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

House

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:01 PM)

great chat today....but it's time for me to run....headed over to Snow Day this afternoon at the House of Blues celebrating ESPN radio 103.3. Swing on through and say hi...I think I'll pick my little man up early from school and he can roll with me...Peace
