Fantasy NFL with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (11:00 AM)

Good morning gang. Welcome to the chat! We'v got 60 minutes of fantasy chattage up ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand... who is up first?

Benjamin (NH)

Eli looked off yesterday, I have Tebow and Eli. Week 16 is semi-final week for me here, which one do you think will be the safer pick?

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

Tebow is safer pick. Jets need the W as well, and that secondary is still pretty good.

shawn (STL)

With AP being eased back in the lineup do you think his workload will pickup next week and is startable against WASH or should I go with Greene or Helu? Thanks!

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

I rank him third of those three, though I think he does get more touches next week.

Eric (LA)

Thoughts on Survivor finale? I was actually pleased with the winner. Too much Ozzy at the reunion, though. Less is more, bro.

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

Given the three in the final tribal, I thought the vote went where it should have... too much Ozzy and Hantzes in general.

Steve (Dallas)

Good morning AJ...first cuppa Joe here. I rolled with ATL's D last week at your behest...keep them or pick up Cincy, CAR, SEA for next week? thanks again

AJ Mass
  (11:03 AM)

Cincy for me.

Matt (Toronto)

Thoughts on Bell on the Bears? He had a pretty nice game yesterdayThanks for the chat.

AJ Mass
  (11:04 AM)

Thought he'd eventually surpass Barber. Didn't think it would be so quickly. I like him just outside of top ten this coming week -- if Bears bench Hanie.

Rob (New York)

Happy Holidays to you and yours, AJ! I'm up by 2.52 points in my semi-final matchup with Antonio Brown left to play. My opponent is finished for the week. What are your thoughts of benching Brown to cement the victory, considering the matchup and the fact that Brown returns punts? I don't want to be "that guy."

AJ Mass
  (11:05 AM)

Then don't be... besides you'll really hate yourself if you pull him and stats corrections put you down .05 as a result.

Kevin (NJ)

Do you think Ridley will be worth using over Pierre Thomas next week considering Atlanta's run D?

AJ Mass
  (11:06 AM)

You can't be sure what RB Belichick gives the rock to... I'd stick with Thomas, where at least the goal line touches should be there.

K (philly)

Percy Harvin puts up 0, I leave the Seahwaks D on the bench, Mccoy scores a TD bc Celek was knocked out at the 1, Flacco throws a garbage time TD when Im up 1 and Nicks drops a sure TD. And I lose by 5 ARRRRRRGGGGGH!

AJ Mass
  (11:07 AM)

Smiles, everyone...smiles! My dear guests, welcome to Fantasy Football!

Pete (MI)

I don't need your advice because I'm already gonna win my league.

AJ Mass
  (11:07 AM)

Me-OW!

Chris (Maryland)

Should I start Chris Johnson vs. the Jaquars next week or Roy Helu against the Vikings?

AJ Mass
  (11:09 AM)

I have them back-to-back in my ranks. Thinking I go with CJ if Locker gets the start, but not if Hass is in there.

Kenny (NY)

Scrambling for a D here. Anything to like about either Denver at buffalo or KC home for Oakland?

AJ Mass
  (11:10 AM)

KC yes, Denver no.

Dave (VT)

AJ, what are your thoughts on Rodgers playing time next week? Thinking about grabbing Matt Moore just in case.

AJ Mass
  (11:11 AM)

I think you start Rodgers and hope for the best. He'll play at least three quarters, I'd expect.

Dan ( NYC)

Thoughts on Big Ben tonight?

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

He'll play the first half. After that, I can see him being phased out if the score dictates.

Tim (Charlotte)

Good Morning and Happy Holidays. Has anyone started the 'I went 11-2 in the regular season and lost my first playoff matchup because my opponent inexplicably sat Adrian Peterson and started Donald Brown' support group yet? Because if not, I'd like to be the founding member. WHY?!?!?!?

AJ Mass
  (11:14 AM)

Yes, the pain is there. I scored most points in my league last week on bye and then got torched by Brees/Megatron yesterday. Sigh... such is the game.

Chip (NC)

McGahee has a nice matchup next week, but do you trust him? Hamstring issues and sharing carries with Lance Ball...

AJ Mass
  (11:16 AM)

The sharing carries is totally related to the hamstring... if he's healthy, he plays. Let's see how the doctors' evaluation goes today.

Andy (Boston)

Hey AJ, can you refer me to a site that ranks defenses by how poorly they protect against Tight Ends? I've made the super bowl in my league, but have been using Shiancoe to replace Fred Davis, and after this week's disappearing act, I figure there has got to be an upgrade available. I would like to factor in match-ups but don't know how to see which tight ends have a good match up for this week. Any help?

AJ Mass
  (11:17 AM)

Right here at ESPN... http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/pointsagainst?positionId=4

kyle (dallas)

Didn't see the Minn game. What happened to Harvin? Trustable next week?

AJ Mass
  (11:18 AM)

It wasn't lack of performance, it was lack of touches. I think the Vikings simply wanted to go AP early and then never got into any rhythm. Harvin for flex? Maybe.

Jake (Cleveland)

Do you ever find winning your league's championship to be somewhat bittersweet? What now? WHAT DO I DO FOR 8 MONTHS?!?

AJ Mass
  (11:19 AM)

Gloat? Of course, there is fantasy NBA and MLB to try...

Chas (Kentucky)

From the perspective of keeping a league competitive and all the teams participating, what are the pros and cons of expanding from 8 to 10 teams?

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

Spreading the studs around makes owners work harder. Personally, I prefer 12-team leagues above all.

Greg (Syracuse)

Brees or Newton this week? Washington D as a plug and play?

AJ Mass
  (11:23 AM)

Cam, and yes.

PJ (Omaha)

SJax had a decent day yesterday..... can he do it two more times against the Steelers and San Fran?

AJ Mass
  (11:24 AM)

No. No he can't.

shawn (STL)

Scoring Question....Next year the commish wants to add deductions for INT, if this happens should the TD pts be changed from 4 to 6 for QB's?

AJ Mass
  (11:25 AM)

I am of the mind that a scoring system should have the top day for each position, the worst day for each position and an average day for each position be worth about the same. That dictates where the balance should be.

matt (nyc)

was the lack of jordy a fluke? is he a must start this week like he has been all season?

AJ Mass
  (11:27 AM)

One would hope. I'd expect the Packers will try to get back in the W column before "packing" it in Week 17.

Ed (Illinois)

How do you think Michael Bush will do facing KC next week? Compared to Helu, Kevin Smith, and Felix?

AJ Mass
  (11:28 AM)

I'd put him top 5 for the week, under the assumption that DMC is done for the season.

Tom (Philly)

You like demaryius thomas at buf this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:29 AM)

Of all the Broncos receivers, he's the only one to touch.

Steve (fl)

Seems gaffney has surpassed moss. Which one of these 2 would you start against a weak minesotta secondory?

AJ Mass
  (11:30 AM)

I'd go Gaffney, but both may well score.

Greg (Syracuse)

Thanks AJ, how about WR 3, Crabtree or M. Floyd? I have Celek, is he a good W/T play to pair with Gates?

AJ Mass
  (11:32 AM)

I'd go with Crabtree over Floyd and Floyd over Celek.

mike (pa)

thoughts on seattle D?

AJ Mass
  (11:32 AM)

I'm starting them if I have 'em.

Troy (NH)

Who has the better night, Gore or Mendy?

AJ Mass
  (11:33 AM)

Unless the 49ers bench him early, I go Gore.

Bob (Detroit)

How much does Nicks facing Revis affect his ranking next week? Still start him over Marshall, S. Moss and Boldin?

AJ Mass
  (11:34 AM)

Not over Marshall. I'm not nearly as concerned with Revis as I am with the lackluster route running and bad drops the NYG receivers had yesterday, but hoping that's a one-game issue.

Herm (Winning)

If the league rules allow it, how could you not bench someone if you are going to win. It's like kneeling on the ball. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME

AJ Mass
  (11:37 AM)

No, it's like telling someone last minute that the party has been cancelled when you really just invited them in the first place because they were standing there and overheard you inviting other people... and you haven't cancelled the party at all.

Joe (Pittsburgh)

Defenses: Bears vs. Packers, Titans vs. Jags, Broncos vs. Buf?

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

I go Tennessee.

rick (austin)

next week DST: jets, cards, chiefs, redskins???

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

Washington.

Alex (Chicago)

Survived benching Spiller for Barber. Is Spiller a must start next week against Denver?

AJ Mass
  (11:39 AM)

Unless you have two top five RBs ahead of him, yes.

Mike (Montreal, CA)

I just bought a Kindle Fire this weekend and got your book for $3. Great read my friend. Great job!

AJ Mass
  (11:40 AM)

Many thanks... I hope others will also check it out. "How Fantasy Sports Explains the World"

Dave (Charlotte, nc)

Is Lynch a Must start @ SF next week? I have A. Bradshaw too?

AJ Mass
  (11:41 AM)

I think the Beast gets tamed. I'd go with Ahmad.

Paul (Honolulu, Hawaii)

Flex question for the finals - Laurent Robinson, Demaryius, or Hillis for the W?

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

I'd take chances with Laurent.

Fantasy Etiquette (Fantasy Land)

Hi AJ... I won my league and the "jellybeans" that come with the championship. Do I give the guy who ran the league a small amount of the "jellybeans" for his effort to run the league? Thanks

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

I would not unless he did so without having a team himself. But buy him a "soda" the next time you are out together.

Brian (New York)

I have LeSean, Reggie, Felix, and Spiller. Of the four which three do I start?

AJ Mass
  (11:44 AM)

Felix is odd man out.

Bobby (South Jersey)

Managed to make it to my finals despite recording ZERO points from Mike Williams and Percy Harvin. Can I trust either in the finals, or go to my bench (Reggie Wayne, Michael Crabtree)? Thanks AJ.

AJ Mass
  (11:45 AM)

I'd go Crabtree over Williams.

AA (Joliet)

Regarding Lynch...Don't you just play your studs and roll with hot hand, come what may?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

I think you start the players who give you best chance at winning. Most times, those are the studs. I don't know what you have on your bench, but a bad matchup is a bad matchup.

James (Nj)

Do you think Lance Moore and DHB will continue their hot streaks?

AJ Mass
  (11:48 AM)

Touchdowns are very unpredictable. I think DHB continues to get enough targets to be productive without the TDs, but Lance does not.

Dan (Washington, DC)

AJ - I'm trying to email you but it's not working

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

Try me on Twitter @ajmass. I try to get to all questions within a reasonable amount of time.

PB (Champeenship)

Maclin or Demaryius next week? Seems like it could be a toss up...

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

I'd take my chances with Maclin.

Laurie (NJ)

After losing DeMarco Murray, I have to start LeGarrette Blount? Any way he bounces back against Carolina next week? Tampa looks like a complete mess.

AJ Mass
  (11:51 AM)

I've got Blount in the No. 15-20 range for next week, but frankly, I'm not at all confident in that.

Willie (Austin)

Any reason to trust the Giants D against the Jets' miserable O?

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

I have to think they'll come to play... and the Jets lack the weapons to truly take advantage of their weaknesses if they do.

Alex (Chicago)

Which one player you benching out of this group? Chris Johnson, Felix Jones, J Stew, Spiller, Larry Fitz? I could play all four RBs.

AJ Mass
  (11:54 AM)

Daily Show gets his channel changed.

Ryan (PA)

Need a replacement this week for Barber, do I pickup Donald Brown, Tolbert, Kahlil Bell or stick with Barber? Thanks

AJ Mass
  (11:55 AM)

Don't stick with Marion. I'd get Bell.

jeff (dc)

play donald brown over pierre thomas oand manningham this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:56 AM)

Over Mario, yes.

Matt (pepotne)

Commisioner of ESPN standard league, guy is mad that he went against three rbs when we only start two, no flex. i.e. Spiller at wr. what do i do?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

If Spiller is eligible at WR in ESPN Standard, then he has no complaint, right?

Alex (Chicago)

Even with J Stew's matchup against the Bucs?

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

If you think he's a lock to score, then you can start him. I think Cam and DeAngelo both more likely to find paydirt...

Karl Welzein (Grand Blanc, MI)

Brandon Lloyd or Percy Harvin in week 16?

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

Harvin has my hope.

Andrew (Detroit)

Need 13 points tonight, Gore or his backup?

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

Go with Gore and hope for the best. Hunter may get junk time, but it's a "may" and results not guaranteed.

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

That's the final whistle! Thanks for the Q's! As we said earlier, there's Twitter, and as always, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
