Chat with John Jurkovic

Jurko
  (1:03 PM)

I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Fortunately for us, the Bears game will be after dinner. Should be a great game to watch as far as looking at one playoff team and what they might be able to do. As far as Bears, won't be pretty. Pack coming off loss and won't be happy and need a win to secure home-field advantage.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Will QB Caleb Hanie be Benched for the Rest of the Season for the Chicago Bears?

Jurko
  (1:04 PM)

He should be. The dillemma is what if McCown gets hurt. What do you do? Enderle not prepared. Have to put Hanie in there.

Kristian (Joplin, MO)

Why won't they give Enderle a chance? Just for evaluation reasons. At least we would know what we have, and not have to go through another Hanie experience again if something happens. We already know McCown is sub-par at best. Yes, I do realize there is a very slim chance of the playoffs.

Jurko
  (1:05 PM)

Only reason you don't put him in is you don't want to shatter the kid's confidence. Maybe Bears realize he's not prepared to play.

Marcus P (Wichita, KS)

Happy holidays Jurko!! This season being pretty much over, was curious on your thoughts about what we can expect from the defense next year. I know the draft, free agency will alter it some but with key players being a year older do you think there is a big drop?

Jurko
  (1:05 PM)

Yes that will start to happen. I hope it's not as precipitous as I believe it's going to be. Hopefully they have a year or two where they can hold on.

Mike (Great White North)

Can we put out an APB for Tim Jennings? I just got in town and thought I saw his picture on a carton of milk....

Jurko
  (1:06 PM)

I think Jennings is the least of your concerns. Peanut was getting beat by TEs split out wide last week.

Conrad (Canada)

Which of the OLmen on this team should have starting jobs moving into 2012?

Jurko
  (1:06 PM)

Carimi, Garza, Spencer, Williams and Louis.

Kyle (NW Indiana)

Is the Bears problem really a problem of ownership? How could the McCaskey's be okay with the incompetence of Jerry Angelo and Ted Phillip's refusal to do anything about it?

Jurko
  (1:07 PM)

Ownership is 70 percent to blame, GM is 25 percent and head coach 5 percent.

Tom (Chicagoland)

Is Jerry Angelo going to be back next year, because it would seem that this season has cast the spotlight on his roster failures?

Jurko
  (1:07 PM)

I hope not. Anytime you create a roster that is predicated solely on the health of your starting QB and doesn't have depth and balance, is not much of a roster. I think Jerry gets to call the shot when he wants to leave.

Mitch (Wisconsin)

What is the Bears #1 priority moving into the offseason? I am torn between WR and LT.

Jurko
  (1:08 PM)

Wide. Receiver. No. 1 WR to make everyone else better.

The Sane Madman (The Madlands) [via mobile]

Peace to the homie Jurko. Let's get after an issue real quick. The issue? Christmas dinner. What shall it consist of this year? Let's talk about it.

Jurko
  (1:09 PM)

Christmas dinner will consist of pigs wrapped in a blanket which are cabbage rolls. Ham. Turkey. Potatoes. Christmas Eve is nothing but perch and pierogies. The two Ps of life on Christmas Eve.

Mike (NW Suburbs)

Is there a potential FA you would try to target in this coming off season?

Jurko
  (1:10 PM)

Vincent Jackson if he hasn't signed his long-term deal.

nick (loop)

Is there really anything to be excited about for these last two games? I can't think of anything...Best I could come up with is hopeful progression of O-Line..exciting stuff

Jurko
  (1:12 PM)

You could hope right now, the Bears are in line for the 14-19 picks. If they lose both and finish 7-9 there's a chance to move up to 12th pick. Not that you want to cheer for your team to lose but reality is you're not going to win, so let's start looking forward. To me if there's a team that wants Briggs, I'd move him. Same with Urlacher. That's me, I'm aggressive. Hester, too. Nobody but Cutler and Forte -- maybe even Forte -- if somebody would give me two first-rounders for Forte, I'd move him.

Ken (Tinley Park)

Jurko, I had a dream last night...McCown and the Bears won the last two games, Detroit lost the last two. McCown has a career game in the Wild Card game, Cutler and Forte return in time for the next two playoff games...and then the Bears actually win the Super Bowl!!!! Who's laughing now sports world? ....what do you think?

Jurko
  (1:13 PM)

That's one hell of a dream. That's a fantasy.

Tim Smith (Ashland, KY)

Hey Jurko! Since '06 the biggest issues have been at o-line, wide out, and secondary. Can we expect better effort to make some changes than the weak patches thus far?

Jurko
  (1:13 PM)

They'll get healthy guys back and there will be competition. Spencer is best OL and he only played cuz people got hurt.

JK (Dwight)

If you had your choice of free agent WR, who would you go after? I think Bowe, V Jackson, and Colston are all available.

Jurko
  (1:14 PM)

I'd go after V-Jax and Bowe, not Colston.

Ken (Tinley Park)

Is my dream possible or should I stop eating cheese before bed?

Jurko
  (1:14 PM)

Switch to formunda.

Foster (Lindenhurst)

Hey Good Kid,Who has been the biggest surprise this year on defense? What do we need to do to have a strong defense again next year?

Jurko
  (1:15 PM)

I think when Paea his burst has been somewhat of a surprise. The inconsistency of Tillman has been surprising. Some games looks like a shutdown corner and others he looks like he couldn't cover my Aunt Matilda.

Mike (Hoffman Estates)

Jurko,If you were Lovie, Do you start McCown or Enderle on Sunday? Why?Looking towards next year, what position do you use our first round draft pick on in April?

Jurko
  (1:16 PM)

I'd start Enderle to find out what he's all about. McCown won't be on this roster next year. The dilemma is if you start Enderle, you've given up, becuase Enderle is going to make mistakes.

zac (chicago)

John, Which Packer team is better: The Favre led Super Bowl team or the Rodgers led Super Bowl team?

Jurko
  (1:17 PM)

I think defensively the Favre-led team is better. Offensively, it's a little in fave of Rodgers.

Tobey Rigsby (Forrest IL)

Do you think that the bears have any shot at beating the packers? If so how?

Jurko
  (1:17 PM)

None. No shot whatsoever. The only way the Bears win is if Green Bay forgets to show up and forfeits.

Rollin on (Anywhere)

Someone needs to inform M. Barkley that he is not ready for the NFL...are you kidding me, any team that uses a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick on this guy will be sorry.

Jurko
  (1:19 PM)

Barkley has had an impressive second half of this season and has put some doubts to rest. There's going to be a lot of teams that need QBs: Cleveland, Indy, one of them will take a run at him. And it depends on how he grades out at Combine. You talk to a kid and find out his confidence. You had your initial feeling and the more you get to know him the more you figure out who he is.

Tom (Kingston Ont)

Big Bucs fan I think Morris is in over his head, forget last years team the record was predicated on weak teams and the element of surprise. Undisciplined young players not progressing in not just losing getting blown out. Who do you think would fit if the Glazers do the right thing. I am hoping Brian Bilick

Jurko
  (1:21 PM)

I don't think Billick is your guy. If the Glazers do the right thing, I'd take Bobby April, the ST coach of the Eagles.

pauly (chicago)

If you could only dump one, who would you choose: Angelo, Martz, Lovie?

Jurko
  (1:22 PM)

Angelo first, then Martz and wouldn't consider Lovie. Angelo mismanaged this team.

Justin (Irvine CA)

Hey I just saw yesterday that the Bears signed your relative Jurovich

Jurko
  (1:23 PM)

I met the kid in Philly, when he was on their 80-man roster when the Hawks were playing the Flyers. He said his name used to have a K in it, so we may or may not be related. It's a popular name in Croatia, but it will be good to see the youngster again. He's got some skill and speed, but you have to catch a break.

Brian (New Jersey)

What are the bears doing at WR this week with so much loss of depth?

Jurko
  (1:23 PM)

Plug guys in and play. Lost depth and they didn't have quality group to begin with. Replacing decent guys with less decent. I didn't expect much to start and expect less now.

Cheese (Washington, DC)

Another thing lost in the lousiness that is Jerry Angelo's tenure is his failure rate with other team's rejects: Gholston, Roy Williams, Pisa, Hurd, Pace, Merriweather. There's a reason these guys were cut.

Jurko
  (1:24 PM)

Pisa was one hell of a player. His impact on this D was pretty darn good. Injuries sidetracked him not talent. As far as other guys, dismal, horrid. If you're a first-round reject, there's a reason. The pros are a much better indicator of what guys can do than college.

pauly (chicago)

Why give Forte a big money deal when the one thing that the Bears have shown during this 4 game debacle is that they can run the ball with Bell or Barber just as well and Bell can catch the ball a little too. I'd spend the money else where.

Jurko
  (1:25 PM)

I don't disagree. The guy's earned whatever he's going to get. I'd trade him and get value. I like Forte, like what he did. The stronger the OL the better the RB.

Dave (Seattle)

You know what i never hear anyone on your show talk about, but makes me crazy......whay doesnt anyone talk about how the last 4 or 4 offensive linemen Jerry has drafted have come out of collage with a history of injuries and or actually being injured. it m akes me nuts how he drafts players.

Jurko
  (1:26 PM)

You shouldn't take one of those guys int eh first round. You should wait. If they have a bad medical grade you should be able to pick them up later in the draft. Let someone else make the mistake.

Jurko
  (1:28 PM)

I've been hard on Hester over the course of time because I believe over-loved in this city for limited amount of production. The last 3-4 games, you needed him to step up, and he developed an ankle problem. So when you needed him most, he found a way to disappear. Superstars don't disappear when the team needs them. They step up. He hasn't. Happy Holidays.
