Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Will (SD)

Any word on what the Chiefs are thinking after watching Gaither play extrordinally well for the Chargers? Also what is Gaither's contract status for next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Kansas City can't be pleased. Gaither has been terriific for the Chargers and the makeshift unit is playing well.

Randy (Grove, OK)

Should the Chiefs invest a 2-4 round pick on another running back? Jones is probably done and Battle is very average.

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Backup running backs can be found pretty cheaply. If the Chiefs like someone in the fourth round, it could happen.

Bill (Corona)

I watch all bronco games and love what I have been seeing. I havent really noticed Ayers much, I know he was supposed to have a breakout season. Is he playing well?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

He's doing Ok. The coaches are getting a lot out of him. He was drafted to be a pass-rusher, but he seems to be a better run stuffer.

Maximus (SD)

Odds of Norv Turner being back as head coach for the Chargers next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

ESPN's playoff predictor has the Chargers chances of makiign the playoffs at 18 percent. I'd say that is Turner's chances of returning. He needs to get his team to the playoffs. But if the Charegrs do go 9-7 and aren't in the playoffs, San Diego ownership will have a tough decision to make.

Randy (Grove, OK)

Are the Chiefs going to resign Brandon Carr and Dwayne Bowe?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

It's interesting. Scott Pioli has bene very aggressive when it comes to re-signing players. But these two players have yet to be re-signed. Perhaps the players want to get to free agency and see what's out there.

Randy (Grove, OK)

Romeo Crennel helped the Chiefs stun the NFL in defeating the Packers last week, but is he really the right man for the job in KC? Wouldn't that be Jeff Fisher?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

We'll see in the next couple of weeks. If Crennel leads the Chiefs to wins in the next two weeks, it would be hard not giving him the job.

Rr8drfanrick (Sun Valley, CA)

Any chance of Mcfadden and Ford coming back Sat. against the KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Niether player is practicing today. So, it's highly unlikley they want play Saturday at KC. Maybe next week against SD. McFadden has been out for two months and Ford has bene out for six weeks.

Jamison (CA)

The Chargers are in desperate need of some playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. What is more pressing for them a 3-4 OLB or secondary help with Jammer aging and the very mediocre Gregory at S?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Probably another pass-rusher, followed by a safety to pair with Weddle.

David (Houston)

Bill. assuming the Broncos finish around the 20-24 position in the draft, does Devon Still seem like the logical pick, if not, what is your opinion?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Well, it's way, way early as far as draft status and prospect status goes. So, it's just speculation at this point. But Still would be available in that range. In Todd McShay's mock draft Wednesday, he had Still going to Denver at No. 23.

Al (Wausau, WI - way up north where the air gets cold)

Bill, when Kansas City gets its injured starters back in 2012, do you feel they may have enough to contend for a division title? Might they still have an outside shot to get a division title yet this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I know it well, Al. I used to live in Appleton.Yes, I think KC will be in the mix next year. There is a lot of talent on that team. For it to be 6-8 with all the major injuries it has had and its tough schedule, is pretty impressive. Remember, a lot of people said at the start of the season that the Chiefs could go 8-8 and be improved from last year's 10-6 team because of the schedule. So, to play virtually the entire year without Charles, Berry and Moeaki and much of the year without Cassel, the Chiefs should be proud of themselves for their effort this season. The future is bright.

Daniel (AR)

Chances of Denver beating Buffalo? My Chiefs need Buffalo to come back to life!

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Every Denver win seems close, so I don't think it will be easy. but the Bills have lost seven in a row, the stadium is going to be half empty and the Broncos are the better team right now. Denver should win that game.

Josh (CO)

Any word on Dawkins availability this week? Sure could use him on the field...

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

He has been limited this week. I think he will try to play Saturday.

Bill (Corona)

Might have been on to something this was on 6/23Bill (Corona CA)Is it me or are the Broncos gonna be money this year????Bill Williamson (2:02 PM)Might be just you.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Good stuff.Nice call.

Hootie (SD)

Happy Holidays Bill,In your opinion, if the Chargers should slide into the playoffs will Norv Turner save his job? How about AJ Smith?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

Hey Hoots, nice to hear form you.I think they are both safe if the Chargers get in.

Josh (CO)

Could you see Denver going after Brandon Flowers in free agency? Getting a good player and taking one from the enemy is a good idea to me....

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Real good idea, but Flowers re-signed earlier in the season.

Austin (LV)

What are the scenarios for the Chargers to be a Wild-Card team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Very complicated and it won't be clear until after this weekend, although it does hold some tiebreakers at 9-7. This is how the Charegrs can be eliminated this weekend:SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD loss + CIN win or tie SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD loss NYJ win or tie SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD tie CIN win DEN win SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD tie NYJ win or tie CIN win DEN tie SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD tie NYJ win DEN win SD eliminated from playoff spot with SD tie NYJ win CIN tie DEN tie

Cody (North Dakota)

Do you see the Broncos using a later pick (5-6 round) on an option QB to back up Tebow assuming Tebow is indeed the starter next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Yeah, maybe, I coudl see that.

Brent (Hays)

Hey Bill! What do you think of the Chiefs quarterback situation? I don't have alot of faith in Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton has shown he is incredibly streaky throughout his career. Neither is an upper echelon quarterback and it would be nice to see the Chiefs get some real quality at the position that they have been lacking since Trent Green. Merry Christmas!

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

I think it wil be either Casel or Orton next year. If I had to guess, I'd say Cassel.if Josh McDaniels is brought on as the OC, I think he'd go for Cassel over Orton. He coached both and I think he preferred Cassel over Orton. Again, that's my thinking. Also, Scot Pioli (the man making the decision) is a believer in Cassel.

Josh (CO)

If Denver beats Buffalo and Oakland beats KC, will Denver rest Tebow and play Quinn against KC? I know lots of people are mad I just said that...

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

It's interesting. But I think Tebow needs as much work as possible, plus maybe Denver will be playing for a No. 3 seed.

Rian (Ratnavale)

Based on the rosters of the teams right now, who is the 2012 division favorite?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I love your spunk, but the AFC West is the only division in the NFL that all four teams have a chance to win the division heading into Week 16. Let's enjoy this wild ride.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Do you think that Tebow had his best game of the year in a loss vs. the Pats? Most of his passes were on target and impressive...

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I do, yes. He made some nice throws. In every other start this season, he had strethces of bad quarterback play. I didn't see that in the New England game. Since the SD game on Nov. 27, Tebow has contiuned to make big stirdes.

Bob (San Diego, CA)

Bill - if Norv Turner is let go, do you think Fisher or Billick will be the coach or a first time like Zimmer or Winston Moss? Thanks

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I think Fisher could be an interesting fit. He's from SD and he'd be interested. The key would be getting a top OC to work with the Chargers' potent offense.

Josh (CO)

Any chance we see more of Jeremiah Johnson? He looked good in Denvers running game...

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

McGahee has been beat up, so I think Denver would like to use Johnson and Lance Ball more. Johnson does do some nice things.

Al (Wausau, WI)

Bill, how will the Raiders handle their QB situation in 2012? Will both Palmer and Campbell be on the roster, or will Campbell have to find another team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Campbell is a free agent. He will want to start elsewhere. The Raiders are married to Palmer.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

John Fox have a shot at COY or is that Harbaugh's award?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Fox has done a great job, but Harbaugh probably gets it and he deserves it.

chris (san diego)

What is the exaqct scenqario for the Raiders to make the playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Here you go:How Raiders Can Win AFC West:1) OAK wins last 2 games AND DEN loses to KC in Week 17WIld card still not figured out completley. Here is how Oakland can be eliminated this weekend: OAK eliminated from playoff spot with OAK loss + CIN win or tie OAK eliminated from playoff spot with OAK loss NYJ win or tie OAK eliminated from playoff spot with OAK tie CIN win DEN win OAK eliminated from playoff spot with OAK tie NYJ win DEN win

Matt Cole (SD)

Denver has alot of Young Raw talent on both offense and defense, Ex. D.Thomas, Decker, Miller, R. Morris, Carter, and ofcourse Tebow How good do you think this team can be going forward if all this talent sticks together? Also How long can this team stay succesful?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

It has some pieces to work with. If Tebow can be the guy and the brass continue to add talent, Denver should be good for awhile.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

It was a great hour, folks. Merry Christmas and enjoy the wild Week 16.BW.
