Terry, in your blog today you write, "It isn't the fact that Wallace -- an analyst with ESPN -- is a huge name or that he had a great team. It's the fact that Wallace tried to do things the right way with Nationwide regulars instead of Cup stars." How is shilling for a disreputable company like US Fidelis so that his son, who is a very mediocre Nationwide driver at best, can play around doing things the right way?

How much do you think Kurt Busch's firing (entirely justified in my opinion) sends shock waves through his brother and other apt-to-be bad boys in NASCAR? Will we see a kinder, gentler racer this season or will the boys still have at it?
It has to get their attention and it may calm things down for a while, but eventually someone will explode.
Interesting blog today, TB. With your thought that Kurt Busch won't make 2012 Chase due to inferior equipment, will we see an even more insolent Kurt this year on the track than last year? If he was so frustrated on a team with top-tier ownership, equipment, and personnel, what will it be like this year?
He'll be better because he knows he has to be if he wants to get a quality ride in 2013. Plus, he's going into this knowing he doesn't have a team capable of running near the front every week, so it's not going to come as a shock to him.
Since Danica comes from open wheel racing do you think she has an advantage on the road courses?
Absolutely not. That's one of the big reason DP left IndyCar. She's not very good on road courses where you have to manhandle the car and constantly shift. But she is pretty good when she can just mash the gas and go.
Do you think Dale Jr. has the fighting spirit in him to race the way Edwards and Stewert did during the chase?
Sure, assuming he was in that position, which is a big assumption.
with so many drivers with new teams and on the hot seat, do you think Kahne, Dinger, Truex, Burton, Biffel, Danica etc. will be taking risks and racing super aggressive?
No. You can't afford to do that and destroy equiopment. That will get you fired quicker than anything else. But Kahne, DP, Burton nd Biff are not on the hot seat. Burton and Biff just signed new contracts.
Do you think NASCAR will be taking the #48 back to R&D after all the races this year for tear downs like they did after what Knaus said at Dega?
No. That ship has sailed. It's over.
Do you think Kyle Busch Motorsports will be running Mark Martin in 10+ NW races in addition to the races Mark will be running in Rowdy's #18 NW car?
I hope not. The fewer Cup stars in NW the better.
Hey Terry, on the Grubb-Addington swap, obviously, JGR came out the winners and I was wondering if you think Darien helps all 3 JGR Toyotas or is that mainly a win-win for Denny?
First, I think both organizations will do well in the transition. And remember, JGR lost Zippy to SHR. But I do think Denny will benefit immensely from having Grubb on the pit box.
Do you expect more two-car tango at Daytona next month, or can NASCAR come up with anything to get rid of it?
This testing session is going to be really interesting, someting I rarely say about Daytona testing. I'm concerned about these 2-gallon radiators. Cars are going to overheat because some teams will push it. I don't think this will eliminate pairs racing, but it will have an impact. I'm fearful the impact will be more danger.
Is the reason some fans don't like the 2 car tandems at Daytona-Dega because Junior isn't any good at that kind of racing and said he doesn't like it?
No, I just think most fans prefer pack racing. I can tell you most drivers don't.
Maybe Steven should just step down to keep the shop from closing up. Rusty could keep Annett and the sponsorship he brings to keep things running.
Rusty has no inteerest in running a one-car team.
Vickers was involved in several incidents at Martinsville, and put payback ahead of a good finish at Martinsville and at Phoenix. Is that mentality hurting his chances of securing a ride this year?
It certainly didn' help him. Bt in the end, there just aren't many quality rides available. Actually, there aren't any now.
Count as a fans who hate pack racing and all those unnecessary wrecks! 2 car tandem is way better than the old packs!

Speaking of pairs racing, I don't get why everyone is so against it. Is it just because it is different than the big pack drafting we had for so many years? It's not like the pusher is relegated to second place in every instance (see Bowyer/Burton at Dega). More importantly, why is NASCAR so opposed that it is making rules changes to eliminate it?
Because NASCAR has done plenty of surveys showiong most fans don't like it.

TB, just a thought here. If Kurt wanted to get back to the fun of racing, why didn't he race NHRA Pro Stock full time? For me, it would be a change of scenery instead of going to a second-tier cup team.
Because he wants to get back to a competitve Cup team and leaving NASCAR for a year wouldn't help him do it. And if he's successful, he can make at least five times more money than he could racing Pro Stock. Fun is one thing, but money talks and you know what walks.
How much do you think Kenseth's lack of sponsorship will affect him this year?
Not much. He still gets the same equipment everyone else gets at Roush. And I think they will secure more sponosrship for him. By the way, how weird is it being a cartoon character?
G'day, mate! How do you like Marcos Ambrose's chances for 2012? Will he make the chase or get an oval win?
I think he has a good chance of winning on an oval and a so-so chance of making the Chase. Marcos has a lot of talent and he may be the best road racer I've ever seen in a stock car. But I'm still not sure RPM has the equipment and personnel to compete for a title.
Will any of our Houston drivers -- Erica Enders (Pro Stock), Rodger Brogdon (Pro Stock), James Buescher (NASCAR Trucks), David Starr (NASCAR Trucks), AJ Foyt (indyCar) -- burst into Victory Lane this season? Who has the best chance and why? Who has no chance?
Hi Russ. I would say Erica has the best chance. I think she can compete for the title in Pro Stock. Buescher also is a really talented kid who will continue to improve. Say hello to all my Chron homies.
First race to have less than 43 cars?
None. NASCAR always will manage to have 43 cars show up, even if five of six on them barely have an engine that will start. But who needs 43 cars? The sport would be better with smaller fields. Quality over quanity.
Under the Pre-Chase format, Carl Edwards would be a 2 time Champion, Gordon would have 6 titles and Kevin Harvick would join Jimmie Johnson with just one. Any new gimmicks in the format for this season?
I don't think so. Why would NASCAR make a chance after the most exicting championship finish in history? But they did catch a break in Carl falling one position short in any Chase race of winning the title with no playoff wins when Tony had five. Say hello to Daisy for me.

Do you think with Dodge only having Penske's 2 cars and Robby Gordon's #7 that they are in a hole compared to the big multi car outfits?
I don't think it helps them (and Robby doesn't add much, if anything) but they have proven they can compete with just one team. The Penske folks think it helps because all of Dodge's focus and effort goes to them.

No, not diominate like that. But I expect them to be better than last year. All four cars could make the Chase and I think this will be a breakout season for Kasey. And it doesn't hurt to have a cc on board now in Francis is has worked for every manufacturer.

No. NASCAR would be much better served to have it's most popular driver winning races and competing for the title.

I wish they would, but I don't think they are. And 10 in too many. Maybe six in Trucks and eight in NW.

Will NASCAR quit giving owners points to teams that put cup drivers in their cars in NW and truck?
Sadly no. I think it's wrong for Cup teams to buy owners point from teams no longer racing. If you didn't earn them, you shouldn't get to use them. But you can bet Danica will get Tony's owner's point for Dytona. No way they go to Daytona wihtout her having a guaranteed spot in the field.

Yes, and thank goodness those races will be 100 miles shorter, which greatly shortens my pain.

Happy New Year, Terry! I think one rule change that NASCAR needs to make is to give two or three bonus points to the pole winner each weekend. It would give extra incentive to drivers and teams, and it would certainly generate more interest on pole day.
I agree 100 percent Emily. But they won't do it because NASCAR believes it would raise costs. Teams would start spending a lot of time and money of qualifying setups. But I'm good with that if it eliminate the boredown on most qualifying sessions. And Friday attendance will go way up, especially if they eliminated the top 35 rule. Not gonna happen, though.

We love Eric here. He did a good job last year with very little to work with. If they sign Fielder, they might even play .500 this year.

Lots of drivers did. And they still have the past champ provisional. How about no provisionals and no guaranteed spots. Everybody is go or go home.

I think Kyle will be better because he's going to concentrate more on Cup and run a lot less NW and Trucks races.

Kasey will win this year. Bank on it. he will not, however, get a bra endorsement.

I think Jeff Burton is headed for bigger things when he retires, like Congressman or Senator.
