Welcome everyone to the latest GatorNation recruiting chat. I look forward to answering as many questions as I can get to.
What Florida Gators will be selected in the 2012 NFL Draft?
Jaye Howard, Chris Rainey and maybe Deonte Thompson or John Brantley in a late round.
With the firing of DC Steele at Clemson,Does Florida contact Carlos Watkins
yes I'm sure Florida has contacted Carlos Watkins, but his deciding factor on choosing Clemson was because it was closer to home. I don't think anything will change with Watkins.
So with the hiring of Pease, who on the offensive side do we get? Looking at our current class, I don't see many guys that are exciting playmakers.
I think Florida has a great shot with Diggs. He is an excellent playmaker. The Gators are neck-and-neck with USC for Agholor, but he also is a playmaker. If Florida can land these two guys, it would be a considerable upgrade to the WR position. Also, don't count out Kent Taylor. He may be listed at TE but I wouldn't be shocked at all if Florida uses him as a receiver his freshman year.
Do you think UF lands Diggs and Agohlor?
I touched on this in the previous question, but in my opinion Florida will land Diggs. Agholor is still in questions, but it will come down to USC and Florida. I think Florida has a good chance though at landing both.
Derek Where do you see Mike Davis ending up? I want to see him ending up at UGA being a Georgia fan but I just don't see him coming to Athens.
He is committed to South Carolina, but watch out for Clemson trying to sneak in and steal him on signing day. He is visiting Clemson this week I believe.
Dear DerekCould you ever see Mike Shannhan coaching the Gators?
Considering Florida has a coach and Shanahan already has a job, I would say not in the near future. But anything is possible.
I have heard that Muschamp does not want to change the off with Pease. does that mean same play calls and audibles or will Pease have some wiggle room to change the verbage and off. sets? How effective can he be if he can not truly install his off?
Pease will have the ability to add plays and make changes as needed. They just want the verbiage to remain the same so that the team doesn't have to learn the offense all over again. Make no mistake this will still be Pease's offense, just the terms will be different. For the most part a lot of the formations are routes are similar as what Weis ran.
Is there a chance that Florida pulls a surprise and signs another running back in this class, like, Duke Johnson, for example?
More than likely not. It's not that they aren't trying, but it's too late to get in on a guy like Duke Johnson. With all of the talented backs in Florida next year, don't be surprised if Florida lands a 2013 back in the near future though
Is UF trying to reach out to Imani Cross? I realize its late in the process but I see him waiting until after signing day to decide...
I have heard Florida has reached out, but again like Duke Johnson, it seems like it's a little too late.
who is the leader for alex mccalister right know
I think it's neck-and-neck with Georgia Tech (no I didn't mean to rhyme like that.) Jamie Newberg, who has talked to McCalister's HS coach several times, believes that GT is the team to beat. With him visiting UF this weekend, anything is possible.
So, with all the 2012 HB's that UF likes off the board, who are they most likely to land in 2013? Bryant, Taylor? I know it's early, but I feel like every other 2012 prospect questions has been asked or will be asked. Thanks!
I think Adam Lane is most likely, then probably Greg Bryant or Kelvin Taylor. Though Taylor likes Alabama a lot too.
With Florid sitting at 18 commitments and a few guys who we all think are leaning a certain way, are there any surprises in store? We've all heard that Muschamp wants to sign 25 or more? Will he get there? Thanks!
That's a great question. I was talking with a co-worker about this yesterday. It will be tough to get to 26, a lot of things would have to fall in to place, but I don't see FLorida taking less than 24 in this class. Even if it means taking some plan B guys.
what are our chances with Avery Johnson and do you see us moving up in the recruiting ranks after NSD? Thanks for all the hard work and effort Derek!!
Johnson loves the recruiting game, so it's hard to tell what he's really thinking. He says he will visit Florida this upcoming weekend, but we will see if that actually happens. If he visits, Florida has a chance to flip him, but I still believe he's going to LSU. Yes I beieve Florida will move up the rankings by national signing day.
With what he have remaining as far as uncommitted targets, do you think any of the upcoming weekend visitors will commit this weekend or at all? Huge names in Gainesville this weekend. Thanks!
If any of them do commit, I believe it will be silent commits. McCalister is announcing Monday, so we will see with him. But for the most part the other guys have signing day announcements set up. DE Brian Cox Jr. is visiting this week, if he gets an offer, I could see him possibly pulling the trigger.
Is Driskel the quarterback capable of leading the Gators to a 9-10 win season and the SEC East title?
I believe he is very capable of doing that, so is Jacoby Brissett.
What are the chances on JHC? what are the chances on Fowler?
50-50 with Georgia on Josh Harvey-Clemons and I'd say 60-40 on Fowler. Fowler has always said he's firmly committed to FSU, but he will visit UF this weekend, so we will see how serious he is.
We seem to be waiting on a lot of kids who are committing on NSD or later (Howard, Young, Diggs, Agolohr). Do you see any of them committing earlier?
The coaches will have a good idea of who's going where by signing day. I actually believe most of them will commit early, but it just won't be announced until signing day.
Since we're only signing one RB this year, is there at least a chance we go for Lane, Bryant, and Taylor next year?
I wouldn't say there is just a chance, I'd say there is a 100-percent chance they go after these three guys, and it's possible they land one of them in the near future. Especially with Florida probably only taking one back this year.
Are you aware of any QBs that UF is still looking at for the 2012 class?
As of right now, it doesn't appear that FLorida will take a QB in this class.
where do you see darius hamilton landing
I say Rutgers right now, but I think it's very close. If his mom actually visits Florida this week like he has said, then I say it will be 50-50 between Rutgers and UF.
Looking forward to 2013. What Qbs is Florida looking at, who would be or should be the best to sign and what Rbs in that loaded class should we sign?
Brice Ramsey, Eddie Printz and Kevin Olsen are the main QB targets next season. Unfortunatly for the Gators, Ramsey and Printz are already committed. With a new coordinator coming in though, there are sure to be more QB prospects on the board.
Will Matt Jones most likely be our primary back next season??
No, I don't believe so. Matt has had some injury problems the last few years. Though he has a solid build, he still needs some time in a college weight program. I think he will definitely contribute to the offense, but I don't see him as a primary back this year. He is an excellent receiver, so look for Florida to try and use those talent early on.
Why is Florida so AFRAID of playing good teams OOC? It is so bad that the state pols have to get involved, sheeeesh
To answer your question.Having Texas A&M, Missouri, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Florida State and South Carolina on the schedule is pretty daunting. Why would they add to an already very difficult schedule?
If they are both capable, as you mention in the response above, who do you like to win the job and why? Driskel or Brissett? Or is there a dark horse on the roster or an incoming recruit you like? Being from Canada I don't get as much exposure to practice, recruiting etc - I felt both looked equally unimpressive in limited action this year. Thanks for your time.
Being from Gainesville, I don't get much exposure to practice either! lol. Seriously though, It's hard to say who will adapt better to Pease's offense. But both guys have strong arms and are smart. Obviously this will be a huge off-season for both players. I think it's too close to call for next season though.
What do you think the odds are of Tracy Howard coming to UF ?
I have heard that Howard and Stefon Diggs really hit it off in San Antonio, which helps Florida with both players. I do believe Howard will end up at FLorida.
What are your thoughts about the Alabama RB decommit Justin Taylor? Does Florida have a shot here to make a late run?
Well Taylor is coming off a serious knee injury. I don't believe Florida will pursue him. With lack of depth at the running back position though, it's possible they do.
Which recruits that are still on the board and uncommitted does Florida NEED more and could be impact players next year.
I would say No. 1 would be Stefon Diggs. Andre Debose did some nice things this year, but Diggs is a game changer. Same could be said for Agholor. Josh Harvey-Clemons, though undersized, would make an impact as a special teams player and with his range he could contribute on third and long situations. Tracy Howard would also make an immediate impact.
ARE WE GOING AFTER ANYOTHER WR OR IS IT JUST DIGGS AND AGHOLOR
Auburn commit Ja'Quay Williams is still a possibility. Arkansas WR commit Courtney Gardner, canceled his visit to UF this weekend.
CAN U SEE MIKE DAVIS PLAYING US ALL AND COMING TO UF IN THE END#JUSTASKING
No, I definitely don't see that happening.
What UF coaches do you consider the best recruiters
This year I think you'd have to say D.J. Durkin (D.J. Humphries, Rhaheim Ledbetter, Jonathan Bullard and possibly Alex McCalister), but every recruit I talk to raves about Travaris Robinson. Brian White is also an excellent recruiter, I know he's a big reason Stefon Diggs didn't eliminate FLorida after Weis left.
Where do you think Kyle Murphy will end up ?
I think he stays out on the West Coast, probably USC.
ANY BIG NSD SURPRISES FOR UF OR DO WE PRETTY MUCH KNOW WHO GONNA SIGN
I'm sure there will be a surprise. No one knew much about Graham Stewart last year up until a few days before signing day, same with Tevin Westbrook.
Nice pic Derek.. what is your NSD prediction for UF
Thanks, prediction as far as where Florida will rank? I'd say they end up with the No. 2 class.
Does DJ Humphries start next year?
I think he will eventually next season. At some point this year tackles Matt Patchan, Chaz Green and Xavier Nixon all had injuries. It's just part of the game. He is just too talented to keep off the field. He has already enrolled so expect him to add about 20 pounds to his 265-pound frame before next season begins.
After a very unimpressive first year at UF, how hot is Muschamp's seat?
I don't think he's on the hot seat. There will always be pressure to win at FLorida, but Muschamp was dealt a pretty crappy hand when Brantley went down against Alabama. I think if Florida doesn't show any improvement this season then yes I think the seat will start to get hot.
TY for your time and hope you move up in espn
Thank you and so do I!
Will Powell, Easley, and Floyd finally live up to the hype this season? They need to be consistently dominant for the Gators to have a special season?
I think Easley lived up to the hype this year before tearing his ACL. I think Floyd will have a break out year. I'm not so sure about Powell though.
