Chat with Bill Williamson

Kyle (Yorba Linda, CA)

Who do you think is the front runner to be the head coach of The Raiders?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It may be too early to tell. Eveyrone thinks it's Winston Moss, but, he hasn't hed a rpeorted itnerivew yet. I also think Bowles, Morninweg and Carmichael may be interesting.

Jhonny (CA)

Any word on what the chargers are gonna do with Vincent Jackson? I think I read that they are not going to franchisee him this year, and are either going to sign him long term or let him go. What are the odds he's back next year, and if not what do they do at WR?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think they will consider giving him a long-term deal. I think they need to show a sign of good faith to the fans after not pleasing the fans the with becuase they kept Turner and Smith.

PorkChop (Oakland)

Hey Bill, thanks for the chat. What do you make of Oakland's coaching search? Although we don't really know if one of the assistants is the next Sean Payton type find, all of the candidates with HC experience don't seem likely to be getting a sniff for any other vacancies. Are they just trying to go cheap?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Cheap, maybe. But I think he is lookikng for a diamond in the rough.

Jake (SD)

Bill any word regarding McNeil, Deilman and Hardwick? What are the odds on the 3 coming back to SD next year? Also is Gaither a FA? Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I think it will be a wait-and-see on all three. If had to guess they will all try to play. But I could see the Chargers trying to sign Gaither opossed to risking McNeill's health. But that is just a guess at this point.

Stephan (Oaktown)

If the Raiders are looking to hire more of a defensive minded coach, why have they not gone after Mike Zimmer yet?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

He'd defintley be worht teh look. Good coach.

Matt (Denver)

Any thoughts on who the Broncos would look to for their OC or DC if either or both leave to take other head coaching jobs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Not really yet. I think thnaty is all preliminary, although McCoy could be a favorite in Miami.

Jesse (SJ)

Most pressing position for the Raiders next year ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I'd say cornerback. Stanford Routt is not an average average No. 1 and they are weak at No. 2.

Abraham (Oakland)

If the Raiders hire a Green Bay Offensive minded head coach do you see them trading Carson Palmer and goen for Matt Flynn in FA? It would make sense since Palmer wouldn't be an ideal fit in the west coast offense right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

What could they get for Palmer? It would be nowhere near to what they just gave up for him.

David S (Denver)

John Fox has a history of preferring vet. QBs over unproven younger QB's if they decide to go the FA route for a QB who do you feel Denver will target?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think the only QBs they look for in free agency will be backup types.

Ryan (Missoula)

Will Oak switch defenses this year? They have all the right pieces.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

It alll depends on why is running the defense. But I wouldn't be shocked. They probably should have done it last year.

CHRIS (HOT SPRINGS)

Bill, What would the Chiefs have to give up to get Manning?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Free season tickets to Rob Lowe?

Ryan (Missoula)

Do you think that the raiders will make a big splash in FA this year or do you think they will start a rebuilding process that will take a few years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Maybe at one or two positions. But they don't nhave a ton of room.

Jackson (SD)

Hi Bill, Mr. Spanos recently had a conference call with about 5,000 season ticket holders and said the team would be much more aggressive this offseason when it comes to Free Agency and pointed out OLB and O line as need areas. I see there are some good FA's like Carl Nicks, Mathis, Mario Williams etc. Do you think this is finally the offseason where the Chargers sign a premier FA or will we be let down with a bunch of Travis Laboy's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think they will be a splash or two. The Chargers have to earn the trust of fans and they must win now.

Steve (Chicago)

Is Ryan Clady a free agent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

No.

AJ (Oakland)

If McCoy leaves, how surreal would it be for Hue to take his place?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Pretty wild. Nothing wild ever happens in the AFC west ... Wait a second.

Corey (D.C.)

Ryan Matthews hsa shown glimpses of being very very good, elite even. Do you think he can take that next step and become consistently "very good"?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I think we'll see this year. I like him. He just needs to stay healthy.

AJ (Oakland)

Could you see the Raiders cutting a high profile player like McClain to send a message about character?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Not this year. It would be too pricey.

AJ (Oakland)

Would Del Rio be a good choice at DC for Oak?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Relaly depends on the new head coach.

Red Dead Bill (Tuscan)

Does Gaither have a sour taste in his mouth for the Chiefs? Or would he be willing to blame Haley and sign with the 2012 champs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

I'm not so sure. I think he'd look elsewhere.

Ricky (Yuba City, CA)

BW - not sure that I agree entirely with your thoughts about Trent Richardson in your blog today. I've got ask Mel Kiper - "Homie, what you trippin' on?" in projecting Richardson at #5. I don't see him as much of a gamechanger as you assert, but I do think that the Chiefs would have to take him if he drops to #11 - anything less would be sheer soft serve.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

OK.

AJ (Oakland)

T or F: Dan Fouts is the best QB in AFC W history.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Elway, anyone?

Timmy Teebs (Denver)

Should I have told someone I was hurting instead of "man-ing up" and watching my team get blown out? But I couldn't let Quinn take my shot at glorious 35-point comeback, BW!

AJ (Oakland)

Give us your picks for this weekend?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Yeah, that would have been the answer.on Picks: Pats-Giants. Don't fell great about the Giants' pick, though.

Chucky (SLC)

What do you think about Denver's secondary? Goodman is well past his prime and this might have been Dawkin's final season in the NFL. Quinton Carter is coming along but what happened to 2nd round draft choice Rahim Moore?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Moore was disappointing. He regressed. Carter was good. I think they will add a corner first and then add a safety in some form.

AJ (Oakland)

What can we expect from DHB moving forward? He played better than anyone could have expected this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

As logn as his arrow keeps point upward. he really ada a nice year. I'm very impressed with him.

Nick W. (Indianapolis)

Any news that the Chargers might lose Raye to Chicago as their GM?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I think he is a top candidate. Good for him. It would be a great move for him, but I wouldn't think it would be a crushing blow the the Chargers. That's no knock on him, but I don't think we'd see his loss result in worse play on the field.

JH (RI)

Should the Raiders resign Bush and try to trade the injury prone DMC for a #1 corner?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Or maybe a first-round pick so the Raiders can draft a corner?

Raja ((Boise,ID))

As far as a backup qb to Tebow, what do you think of the Broncos taking a flier out on Kellen Moore from Boise State? He's small sure but he's smart, great teammate and i could see him becoming a legit back up in the mold of Kubiak. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I could see him being a possibility. He could be someone they look like.

Chris (San Jose)

How soon do you think the Chargers move to L.A.?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

It won't be this year. 2013 at the earliest.

Jason (KC)

Why wouldn't the Chiefs make a strong push for Manning. Wouldn't it make them immediate contenders for a title? A turn Pioli back into a Genius?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

At what cost, though. It would be interesting for the short term, but what would the cost be?

Bill (DC)

What is the situation with Dwane Bowe vis a vis his contract?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

He is a free agent. The Chiefs have indicated they would like to keep him, but he may be ready to see what's on the market.

Waylander (Bloem)

Any change the Chiefs take the top cornerback available in the 1st round? Especially if Carr doesn't re-sign?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Only if Carr leaves. But I think there are other needs.

shanard (utah)

Bill, would the raiders go after another spped wr in desean jackson if he is available......

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

He's dymanic for sure, but I think the Raiders are good at receiver. They just have to continue to develop them. DHB, Moore and Ford is a nice trio if they continue to get better and they can stay healthy. Jackson is going to be pricey. If the Raiders were to spend that type of money, I'd like to see it spent on an imapct defensive player.

Nick W. (Indianapolis)

Would the Chargers look at Ronnel Lewis in the 2nd round if they go say Safety Mark Barron in the first.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

TRhat would be one heck of a start.

AJ (Oakland)

What do you think of this scenario? The Raiders accept defeat and trade Palmer for a 2nd rounder. They resign Campbell and draft a eventual replacement

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

That would be a disaster. Just give up a first-rounder? Got to ride with Palmer, at least this year. He's not terrible, he just wasn't worth the trade.

Ed (Saginaw, MI)

Think LB.Justin Houston could be a double digit sack guy next year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

With a little improvment, sure. I like him.

John (Neb.)

I see that Matt Prater will be a free agent. Please tell me Denver will resign him?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think they will. They love him and he loves kicking in Denver.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.
