OK, let's get rolling.
About the LInebackers coach position? Anybody the favorite?
Tim Gish is the favorite, with Tyrone Nix right there. I seem to recall OU waiting to hire Jay Norvell after signing day, so it's possible Bob Stoops waits a couple weeks to announce the hire. At this point, neither coach would make a huge impact on this recruiting class, especially considering LB is not a major need.
Hey Jake, after last weekends visits who if any should commit soon? Thanks
Best bet is junior college running back Damien Williams. The Sooners could use somebody like Williams, who is ready to step on the field today.
i dont really know you not trying to be mean but who are you
Did you mean to text me?
Jake, did OU really just forget to set up Beavers visit or is there more to the story?
Beaver's primary recruiter was Brent Venables, and Beaver actually had no idea Venables was leaving for Clemson. As a result, Beaver's flight never got booked, and he didn't speak to Mike Stoops until last Thursday night. Beaver, however, has not held any hard feelings, and he is down to OU and Washington. He is now supposed to visit Norman this weekend.
With legal hurdles looking to end for West Virginia, when will the Big 12 schedule be put out? Any word on what the home games will be for the Sooners yet?
From what I can tell, the Big 12 has two schedules, one with WV, one without. They'll release it as soon as the WV situation reaches some resolution. No word on home games, but I hear TCU/WV would be road games. I would expect K-State, Baylor, KU and OSU to be home games along with Notre Dame.
Jake: I know the game is a long time from now, and i know Notre Dame isn't what they used to be but, im excited to see Notre Dame invade Norman. Is there a buzz sourounding that game?
Yeah, I'm sensing some buzz. The Irish have fallen on hard times, but Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. Trust me, that will be the toughest non-conf ticket in Norman since the Bama game.
Who is the most hated team in College Football?
LSU, Boise State, Miami, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Alabama, Auburn, A&M, Ohio State, Michigan are all hated by someone.
Is Trey Metoyer enrolled yet? Is he going to be coming in this spring or not?
No confirmation one way or the other yet. Coming in day now.
Trott, what possible Big XII team might replace A&M to play Arkansas @ Jerry World each year ??.. It was a great recruiting tool for A
I've always thought Oklahoma State-Arkansas would be a fun game in Arlington. Can't see either not agreeing to it if they were approached.
Wouldn't it be wise for Bob to push for Tressel for the LB coach? Special teams has been lacking and every little bit helps.
Nix actully has a special teams background, too. But yeah, it wouldn't hurt getting someone with a strong pedigree in that area.
Is OU in the lead for Brandon Beaver and Colin Blake?
OU has a good shot at both. Beaver is coming in this weekend, and Blake (a Texas A&M decommit) was high school teammates with OT Kyle Marrs, the first OU commit this year.
I'm wanting to know more about Alex Ross. I went to high school in Tulsa and still partially follow the big schools. However, I know little about him.
Me too. Because of injuries, we really haven't seen what Ross can do. But he's a big-time talent with a ton of natural RB vision. OU fans should be excited about this one.
Whats the word on CB Kevin Peterson after the Osu visit?
Well, he didn't commit to the Pokes. Bob Stoops is supposed to make a visit Tuesday. People close to Peterson thinks he sticks with the Sooners. We'll see, but I like OU's chances to keep him even though Peterson grew up an OSU fan.
Do we have any chance for the running back from Blinn Community College Trice?????
Marion Grice? I doubt OU takes more than 1 JC RB. If Williams commits, OU could end it there. But apparently Grice is looking around after just de-committing from Texas A&M, so we'll see if OU takes another look.
Where do you think DGB ends up?
Another DGB question lol is OU trying to make a late push and when will he announce
Bob Stoops is apparently there, or on his way there now. So the Sooners haven't given up yet. Who knows? OU has snagged kids before late in the game.
Would Chris Peterson have been a legit candidate had Chip Kelly left? Seems like his name comes up an awful lot.
Yeah, it sounds like Peterson would have been Oregon's No. 1 choice in that scenario.
Outside of Notre Dame coming to Norman, does OU have any other non-con opponents lined up? What are the odds that the Rutgers game happens?
At the moment, no. I'm told the chances of the Rutgers game coming together are "slim." But it could still happen. That game would be fun.
OState's QB situation is in flux, but both of the new kids are franchise quality QB's. Which are we better off playing against. Their 4.4 run/pass QB or the pro-style slinger?
If either turns into Brandon Weeden or Zac Robinson, it won't be easy. Let's wait and see if that happens first.
Nelson Agholor goes where?
USC or Florida are the ones to beat. OU made a valiant effort, but Agholor is a longshot. OU still has a terrific WR class, so it's not a huge loss if he goes elsewhere.
How is Jaz Reynolds? Is there any reason to think he won't be opening day starter next year?
As far as I know, Jaz is doing well. It's possible he comes back for spring ball. He should be in the lineup for the opener in the fall.
Can OU beat out USC for Zach Banner or is JUCO prospect Will Latu our only hope at the OT position?
Banner is probably going to USC.
Is Ash still Ash?
David Ash? Uh, I guess.
So Mike Stoops is good for 4-5 years, right? How bad would it be if he left after 2 years and OU is left with no D-Coordinator worth his salt?
That's a tough one. It's possible Mike leaves after a couple of years. Then again, could he become Bob's successor?
Why no real DT prospects?
Not a priority with this class. OU took in 3 DTs last year.
What are OU's chances with Zach Banner
Any recruits going to switch from OSU to OU?
The only player up for grabs is Peterson. I think he sticks with OU.
Where does Tony end up playing at this year? Full time Safety?
If OU feels good about somebody at back safety, Jefferson will play the nickel. If not, I can't see how they don't play him at back safety.
Which freshmen WR will have the bigger impact, Durron Neal or Trey Metoyer?
Neal already told Bob Stoops he's going to start; Metoyer has the same swagger. Neal is the safer bet at this point, since we know for sure he's going to be on the team next fall.
Can Bob ask Sheri Coale to offer DGB's Girlfriend, so he will come to Norman?
Ask Sheri how that worked with the Jeffcoats.
Is there a chance that OU loses a recruit to another school by signing day?
Always a chance, but unlikely.
Jake, Why didn't OU contact Devin(sp) Shelton? Considering their need for secondary help, along with being teammates of Derrick Woods too! Seems natural.
No real answer for you. Sorry.
Ok i will try again.. what team is the most polarizing?
Notre Dame and Texas seem to be up there.
Were does Ou stand on Colin Blake and Brandon Beaver?
In good shape on both.
Jake..how is the search for a new coach coming?? Will it be a linebacker coach or will there be a shuffle with responsibilites??? Also..why am I hearing Mangino/Long possibly coming back to OU??
Yes, will be a LB coach. Stoops has already brought in Tyrone Nix, and is bringing in Tim Kish. As for the rumors, last I checked, OU doesn't have a vacancy for Mangino. Could that change? We'll see.
Any recruits that could be swayed to another school by signing day besides Peterson?
Daniel Brooks is probably the only other possibility. But I doubt anyone signs elsewhere.
who will be the starting DT this year at OU?
McFarland and either McGee or Walker.
What about Stefon Diggs? He came to OU for official visit so do we have a chance?
Chances are not good.
Any word on where the Sooners stand with Zach Banner after his visit to USC?
Banner said USC was his favorite visit to date. Read that how you will.
Jake... My friends and i argue about this topic all the time: Who do you think is "America's Team" of College Football? In my opinion, It's still Notre Dame. They are undenibly the most poarizing team. They have their national TV contract! And please dont tell me Texas is...they pail in comparison to the Irish. Nd has Chicago, New York etcccc Your thoughts?
No one has supplanted them there.
with me on this last push for DGB i need help in deciding to hire for LB's. who do you thik i should hire? it doesn't have to be someone that has been in norman (nix or kish)
I like Mike Tressel, but any of the three would be a solid hire. Kish has a big-time rep as a recruiter. That never hurts.
who starts at linebacker besides wort?
You want the whole '12 depth chart? Wort/Corey Nelson.
What's Geneo Grissom's story? I thought he was making significant progress his 1st spring and got injured. But he didn't make much of an impact this past year. Injuries again?
No, it wasn't injuries. He just didn't practice well enough to play. This is a big year for GG. Chaz Nelson is good enough to pass him on the depth chart.
What is the chance for Stefon Diggs, Gardner, and JUCO RB Williams???
Williams better chance than Diggs/Gardner.
Who would be the best fit for OU LB coach in your opinion.
Any of the candidates they're looking at seems like a good fit for me. You're talking about ex-defensive coordinators that can also recruit. Can't go wrong there.
People are saying Gardner will not be interested in Arkansas if DGB signs, but couldn't you say the same for OU's WR class? The depth chart will be just as loaded.
I agree with that analysis.
What do you think about this years class overall?
Very offensive heavy. Great WR class. Iffy on defense.
Borderline Top 10 class at the moment.
OState fans aren't backing down like they used to in the past. Was this year a flash in the pan, or do we need to be concerned about Little Bro?
OSU isn't going anywhere. Not with facilities like those.
Have you heard anything new on our walk on phenom? Is the ankle healing up ok?
Whaley? Hard to say at this point. We'll know more once he starts moving around on it.
Do the Sooners have a shot at landing Colin Blake and Brandon Beaver to fill their huge need at cornerback?
Offense and Defensive Depth Chart for next year?
Ha. No kidding, right?
When is the last time the Sooners fiaced the Irish? I've been following CFB for 25 years and don't recall a meeting?
OU went up there in '99 and got beat 34-30.
Btw, OU record all-time against the Irish? 1-8. Notre Dame beat OU right before and to end the 47-game winning streak.
Any real worries about the rumors of Joe C eventually replacing Nienas? If it happens is that the catalyst that will Make Bob look more seriously at other opportunities?
You're stressing me out. I'm just worried about finding out who the next LB coach is going to be.
The other day, when I was reading soonernation, somebody had suggested Tyler Evans as backup and Adam Shead as the starter. My question is why not use this offseason to develop Adam Shead as a Left Tackle, the guy seems to have a very good feet and hands... wont that be advantageous as u will put the 5 best available OL's in the field?
Interesting idea, but Shead is built to be a guard, not a tackle. He's a bulldog.
Do you think Mike Stoops will bring in better defensive talent than Venables, i.e. who's the better recruiter?
Venables brought in some pretty good ball players, but I don't see the recruiting falling off with Mike. Recruits seem to respond to him.
Our secondary was, lets just say, less than stellar last season. Seems like we are "hoping and praying" that WVU (Smith hung +470 passing on LSU!), TCU (Pachal is very good), Horns (Ash can throw a little), and even Baylor will suck. Am I the only Sooner scared shipless that we're in for another 3-4 loss season?
I'm assuming you're a half-glass full kind of guy.
Who do you have playing at the OLB positions next year?
Corey Nelson will replace Travis Lewis on the weak side.
Will RJ Washington and Nathan Hughes breakout next year with the departures of Frank Alexander and Ronnell Lewis?
Not sure about Hughes, but RJ could be in for a big year. I really liked what I saw from him in the Insight Bowl.
What one recruit we need the most to commit before NSD??
DGB would be nice.
WIll mike call a more aggressive defense than BV did? In other words less soft zone that seem to confuse our back 7?
One thing Derrick Strait told me was that Mike makes sure everyone understands what's going on with the defense. He said that will be the biggest thing Mike brings to the table.
Regardless of the scheme.
Guys, that's all the time we've got. Sorry I couldn't get to all of your questions. We'll do it again next week, same time, same place. Have a great week.
