hey andy. u r awesome. can you give ma a little optimism bout my wildcats making the tournament and do u think they actually will make the tournament? keep up the good work
Wow. Thanks. Arizona fans will deliver Saturday for the Washington game and for Gameday. I wouldn't rule it out. Arizona can still make a run and/or win the Pac-12 tourney. The Wildcats aren't an at-large team now. But who is in the Pac-12.
Why shouldn't Wichita St play at Murray St? I and many others think that this would be a better game than St. Mary's at Creighton, which should be the other marquee Bracketbuster.
They could. I don't have a problem with Wichita-Murray and Saint Mary's-Creighton. The Wichita fans were all over me on twitter for initially putting Nevada at Murray. I wanted to see the two conference leaders matched up.
Thanks for putting Nevada against Murray State. It should be a real good game. Your the best!
Wow. See someone agrees with me on this one.
How bout that win for my Billikens last night? Still need to keep winning, but it should go a long way for an at-large right?
That helps a lot. But let's not rule out winning the A-10. SLU has as good a chance as any team in the top six to win the league.
Even though the PAC12 is terrible, should Dana Altman be getting COY consideration?
No. Not national. He can and may win Pac-12 COY. Long way to go still.
What's up with the lack of national publicity of Izzo's 400? I know the basketball community is talking about it, but nothing on Sports Center?
I wrote about it today: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/katz_andy/id/7505749/michigan-state-spartans-coach-tom-izzo-real-come-college-basketball
Andy, hearing a lot of rumors that mu fans will be making disparaging signs about Thomas Robinson's mother when KU plays in columbia on 2/4. I hope that the Gameday crew will be sure to point these people out and humiliate them on national television. I'm convinced the missouri administration will not do anything to prevent it.Rock Chalk.
I can't believe that. There have been a few awful posts on message boards that aren't worth repeating. Fans have crossed the line before and already done so at Michigan State when one yelled out for Robbie Hummel to tear his ACL again. The best thing all of us can do is to draw attention to these people and have them removed from the arena. There is no tolerance for hateful things like this in an arena of play. Scream it on the street if you'd like, but not in the arena.
Why all the hate for Wichita State? Your 3 ptr this week mentioned Nevada as the best opponent for Murray State when BBusters are announced next week. WSU has a better record, higher RPI, is tied for first place with Creighton for the league lead, and is undefeated on the road. Logic indicates that St. Mary @ Creighton and WSU @ Murray St. is the best possible ESPN matchups for BBuster weekend.
It's hardly hate. The UNLV win will likely put WSU in position for a possible at-large. Sending Nevada to go to Murray over Wichita was just my opinion. I don't have a say!
If Fab Melo is done at SU, how does that affect SU's chances to make a run for the title? Christmas is still very raw and Keita's seems to be regressing this year. What do you think is their ceiling?
Too early to say he's done. This appears to be a fluid situation. Even without Melo this team is deep enough to absorb a hit and make it to the Final Four. Matchups will determine if they can win the whole thing (Ohio State, Kentucky, North Carolina all could pose problems in the post).
The regular season ACC Champ and/or Co-Champs will be...?
North Carolina.Duke.Florida State.Still not firm believer that the Seminoles can pull this off.
I finally found out why ESPN wants to see Murray State and Nevada play.Win Percent Rank ? (WSU - 13 and Nevada - 21); RPI Rank ? (WSU - 26 and Nevada - 74); Strength of Schedule Rank ? (WSU - 66 and Nevada - 196); Offensive Points per game Rank ? (WSU - 31 and Nevada - 122); Assists per game Rank ? (WSU - 63 and Nevada - 113); Field Goal Percent Rank ? (WSU - 35 and Nevada -110); Defensive Points per game Rank ? (WSU - 40 and Nevada - 90); Rebounds per game Rank ? (WSU - 34 and Nevada - 76); Free-throw percentage Rank ? (WSU - 73 and Nevada - 300); Steals per game Rank ? (WSU - 180 and Nevada - 204); Turnovers per game Rank ? (WSU - 63 and Nevada - 117); and*Three points goals per game Rank ? (WSU - 101 and Nevada - 56); See this really isn't the ESPN Bracketbuster Weekend, it's the ESPN "Jack it up Baby" Weekend event. Nevada Shoots 19.8 three-balls per game and makes 7.7. However, our Shockers only shoot 19.7 three-balls per game and makes 7.0. I just wish ESPN would have let us (WSU), know that this was the deciding factor. I am certain Coach Marshall would have adjusted his offensive strategy to accommodate this requirement.
Sorry got knocked off the internet for a few minutes.Sarah,I give my opinion. But few listen. I don't have a say.
Are there always this many upsets every year? It seems ridiculous, one top 25 goes down every night! I guess this just reinforces that the poll means nothing...
I don't have the documentation to back it up but it seems like this is the norm in this new era.
Any inkling on how the NCAA is going to rule on Ryan Boatright? Can they stop holding UConn hostage and make a decision?
UConn still doesn't know if Boatright will be available for Notre Dame Sunday. And yes UConn and the NCAA can take their time before making a decision.
Does Syracuse still win the Big East without Fab Melo?
Yes. I don't see another consistent team.
Andy who do you think Obama is going to pick this year?
I'm going to guess either Kentucky or North Carolina. Maybe an outside shot at Ohio State. I'm not going out on a limb by saying one of my choices will come from this list, too (that's without seeing the bracket).
I heard from some media guys that ESPN doesn't want a WSU vs Murray State matchup in BB. They clearly would like to see Murray State go into the NCAA tournament undefeated. Having a team as strong as WSU that plays was well as WSU does on the road is a big risk to that happening. Bottom line an undefeated Murray State has alread been selected as this year's cinderella story and it would be bad for business if someone screws that up. Could that be true?
No. There is NO truth to that. We don't televise the tournament so why would we care? And even if we did we wouldn't script anything like that. And any of those teams -- Wichita, Nevada, Saint Mary's or Long Beach State -- could beat Murray even in Murray. It's not a reach.
Who do you have winning the Big XII?
I've had three different answers this year.I'm now at either Missouri or Kansas.
Does UK win #8 on a neutral court right now?
They are one of four in my mind.
Who do you think is the favorite to with the Mountain West this year?
Pick 'em with SDSU and UNLV.
Andy, name your top five candidates for POTY at this point.
Thomas Robinson, KansasDoug McDermott, CreightonKevin Jones, West VirginiaArnett Moultrie, Miss StateAnthony Davis, KentuckyMichael Kidd-Gilchrist, KentuckyMike Moser, UNLVJared Sullinger, Ohio StateDraymond Green, Michigan StateAnd I'm sure I'm missing more.
Thanks for the questions.Plenty of CBB on tonight. I'll be in studio tonight.
