Sorry for the brief delay everyone. Computer issues as usual. We;ll go a few minutes into overtime to make up for it
What will Jorge Posada will do now he is Retired from Major League Baseball as a Player? Will he be a TV Analyst?
Hey, Chris. Jorge was asked this question yesterday and understandably he said he hadn;t thought about it yet. Cashman said, essentially, heck, every other ex-Yankee is working for us so why not him? I could see Posada maybe as a spring training instructor or maybe a roving hitting instructor if he's inclined to travel (which I doubt) but I don';t see him as part of Joe Girardi's staff or as a regular on YES. Maybe an occasional guest analyst
Do you think that if A.J. Burnett said he wanted to retire as a Yankee Hank would extend his contract for five more years?
maybe, but I think there are Yankee fans who would force him into early retirement. like immediately
I want to meet the Yankees. How do I do that?
Hey, me too! when I find out I'll let you know
Who's gonna start at catcher?
Martin. Is there any reason to doubt that?
Since Cashman is at least saying he wants to trade for a DH, any thoughts on an AJ for Adam Dunn swap?
What Current Yankee Player do you think will be working for a Television Station to be a Broadcaster or a Studio Analyst in the Future?
you won;t believe this, but I think A=Rod would be a great analyst. He breaks down the game better than anyone else in that clubhouse. Aside from him, I could see maybe David Robertson or Granderson, perhaps Hughes -- if he's a Yankee long enough and maybe Teixeira
Quantity for Quality - assuming that Mitchell, Phelps and Warren are ready, but with no room for them, can you package them for a hitter - like Butler?
I'm sure the packaging of prospects for a hitter is a very live option for the Yankees now that they;ve aded two quality starters. Don';t know about Butler's availability, though, and right now, teams seem more interested in the remaining Killer Bs than the guys you mention
We look at Jorge Posada's career and while he was a very good player think that he never came into play when it came to MVP votes or top 5-10 best players in a single year or while he played. Though with all the players who took or suspected of taking PEDs during when Posada played where would he be seen if they hadn't? I say much higher.
Hi, eric. Thanks for joining us. Agree Posada and a lot of guys would be ranked much higher in a world without PED guys. (I assume Posada is clean because his line doesn;t contain those one or two crazy seasons that jump out at you, like Brady Anderson's or Bonds' 73 HR year). And let's not forget who won the MVP both years Posada got into the Top 10. That's right. A-Rod. A lot of guys were hurt by comparison with the juicers. But it was their choice not to blow the whistle, so they'll have to live with it
Hey, Wally Will Robinson Cano Be Batting In the 3 spot with ARod with cleanup and Mark at the 5th spot
It has been talked about but not definitively established. I think Cano will get a good # of ABs in the 3 hole esp against RH pitching. And I wonder how long A-Rod remains in the cleanup spot if he turns out to be a 20-25 HR guy from here on
With the Pineda trade and the Kuroda signing, Are the Yankees World Series potential? Also do u think they will make another move?
I think they are, because the offense is still top shelf and assuming Pineda and Kuroda perform as expected -- as well as CC, Nova and whoever winds up being the No 5 -- they seem to have shored up their one glaring area of weakness. The only remaining move I can see is possibly moving one of the excess SPs, either Hughes or AJ, for one more bat to replace Montero. But they look strong from top to bottom now
Hey Wally, do you think we should expect Jeter to be batting 1 in games that he starts? Also, what is you take on the revolving door DH approach?
as far as I know, Jeter will be the leadoff hitter, at least at the start of the season. as the season goes on, Girardi may adjust accordingly, esp if Derek struggles and Gardner is hitting well. But coming off a decent rebound season in 2011, I don;t see any shakeup at the top of the lineup right away
What are the chances of an AJ Burnett deal? Is there a possibility of a Johnny Damon reunion in the Bronx? Thanks Wally.
I would think very slim, unless they can swap his horrible contract for someone else's. And I don;t think the Yankees are all that eager to eat say,, 20M of the remaining 33M left on his deal, which is the minimum I would expect them to have to absorb. As for Damon, it's possible, but as Cashman said several times this week, the first course of action will be to try to unload of the surplus pitching -- prob Hughes, IMHO -- for a bat before going the FA route
Everyone knows A-Rod will eventually become their full time DH. Maybe not this year or next season, but in 2014 he will get at least 130 + Games as a DH. My question then is, Have the Yankees' Brain Trust made any mention or plans of pursuing a free-agent 3rd Basemen after this season or in 2014 and who?
I'm not in the business of predicting trades so I can;t tell you who it will be, but the Yankees better be planning on that eventuality and scouting A-Rod's replacement at 3b. Unless, of course, they think NunEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE can handle the job on a daily basis
As a northwest girl . and anti mariner fan. How big of a mistake do you think the jesus montero trade will be. and who do you see as back up to martin this year
Hi, Jen. you blitzed me with so many questions I don;t know where to start. I wrote a column the other day outlining the risks of the Montero deal but I have no idea how good he will turn out to be, esp in that ballpark. I think Jorge's first move should be to spend as year with his family, then if he's inclined look into becoming some kind of spring training hitting instructor for the Yankees. As for announcing, the guy is so candid he might not be exactly what the YES network is looking for. Yankees will trade for a DH before signing either Damon or Hideki, unless their pricetags come way way down
Jesus Montero 2012 Home Runs: 20. Over/Under?Michael Pineda 2012 Wins: 15. Over/Under?
I think over for both. Pineda will benefit from Yankee run support; although bigger ballpark hurts, Montero projects to 26-30 playing full-time off last year's production
What are the odds of puttin Cano in the 3rd slot
Full-time? Don;t know. Against RHP? Pretty good, I'd say. That is, if he doesn;t replace A-Rod at cleanup
Are the Yankees seriously considering trading Hughes if they can't unload Burnett??? Do they need a DH that badly?? Why can't Vazquez, Andruw and a rotating Arod, Jeter, etc. handle the job?
Don't know how serious they are but he seems to have the most value, being young, affordable and with a relatively recent history of success. I do agree, however, that the Yankees can get by with aDH by committee. They have a roster-full of DHs in waiting
Who outlasts who on the roster long-term -- Jeter or A-Rod?
Great question. You would think A-Rod, because I'm sure Jeter is on his last NYY contract, but at the rate the 3rd baseman's body crumbled last year, he might not make it to 2014.
Am I the only person that would prefer DH by Nunez getting a good amount of at bats as a floater?
it's possible. To me, Nunez is a nice little utility player who is a liability in the field. The Yankees think much more highly of him. We'll see
Isn't it unfair to have a luxury tax number that hits just one team? Doesn't seem like it does a lot of good for competitive balance if only the Yankees have to worry about/pay the luxury tax
Thanks for checking, Randy Levine. Only kidding. But what you say is exactly what the Yankees are thinking, and justifiably so.
Will Pedro Feliciano ever pitch for the Yankees? I would lean the Yanks think no if they are bringing Okajima to camp?
I believe you're right. Feliciano is very unlikely to pitch in 2012
Thanks, guys. Sorry again for the delay. We'll do it again next week. And don't forget to check out the Yankees blog on the website. Every day from now until P & C report on Feb 19 Andrew Marchand and I will tackle a key question looming over the upcoming season.
