Chat with Bill Williamson

Willow (Southside)

Who will coach the Raiders in 2013?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

You aren't liking Dennis Allen's chances?

Chris (Lees Summit, MO)

Is there any word on who Romeo is interviewing for the OC position at the Senior Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Has been pretty quiet. One name that I keep eharing is Brian Daboll. he worked with Crennel and Pioli in New England.

Brandon (AZ)

Bill, getting a question in early while I am at work. Hypothetically if Manning is released and is healthy do you think Elway would take a shot? And IF so do you think MIA would give their 2nd for Tebow? They could use the gate jump and have 2 good backs to help out.

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

I coudl see Elway being interested in Manning, but I think there will be other teeam willing to give Manning more money than Denver. As for Miami and Tebow, I think the Dolphins would rather take arun at Matt Flynn.

Chris (Lees Summit, MO)

Has there been any news on Kyle Orton and the Chiefs? If Kyle leaves, will the Chiefs bring in another qb to compete with Cassel?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think the Chiefs plan on making Cassel their starter and Orton will look for a job elsewhere. I'd doubt Orton would be interested in coming back unless he was the starter. I think the only way he'd re-sign with the Chiefs is if there were no better options as a starter.

Chris (Lees Summit, MO)

Do you think the Chiefs will go after Carl Nicks in free agency?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

He'd cost big money. I think the Chiefs would spend elsehwere if they want to spend big cash.

Joey (Tucson)

Hey Bill, love your blogs man. In regards to Dennis Allen, was he the best fit for Oakland. I mean another first time coach to handle a team that lacks discipline and basically has had a player friendly owner than a coach friendly one. I mean, players weren't discipined with player friend coaches, why would they for a hard militarized guy? Just wondering. Also, what is the hold up with the official contract, quality cooridnators are leaving quickly and I think we need a good on for DC regardless if Allen is a defensive coach. I say keep Saunders! What do you think buddy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Thanks for your kind words ... IOm going to trust McKenzie on this one. It was a bit risky, but, by all accounts, Allen is a quality, up and comer. Plus, he was loved in Denver. He clearly impressed McKenzie because Allen was not a frontrunner when this process began. He will be good, but the only quiestion is will he be good now.As far as the contract. Don't worry about it. He's the coach.

Scott (Oregon)

If Manning is available would the chiefs be active in pursing him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

I know it has benen mentioned. But I don't real;ly see it.

Robert (Parksville, BC Canada)

Anymore word on Carr and Bowe out of KC.

Stephan (Bay Bay)

Most lilkely to be pursued by the Raiders: Finnegan, Grimes, or Carr?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

No. There's still time, but as of know, it's quiet. Remember, these things can happen very quiickly. If we get into March, then it may be time for the Chiefs to worry. On Raiders: I'd say Carr, becuase he is the most likely to be available.

John (CA)

Do you think the raiders should have hired the DC of a top 5 defense(chuck pagano) instead of the DC of the 20th ranked defense

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

I'm not sure if a coach should be hired simply on rankings. The big picture here is Allen immensley improved the worst defense in the NFL and he has a big upside.Don't you think the Ravens have better talent on denfes ethan the Broncos do?

Brian (Denver )

Bill love your work on the blog. Do you Denver could take a late round flyer on Derron Thomas from Oregon in the draft. if they decide to fully commit to Tebow next year. He has ran the spread option and could bring some explosiveness to the position.

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Thanks. Teams like to have their backup be a similar player to their starting quarterback for practice reason and transition reoans is there is a injury. So I think you are on the right track. That could be a possibility,

Scott (Oregon)

If the chiefs don't sign Bowe would they consider V. Jackson of the bolts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

I think that could be a possibility. What about Wes Welker. Make Baldwin the deep threat and Welker (who knows Pioli well) a possession guy. Still, that might be a pipedream because I have a hard time seeing Welker leaving the Patriots.

Andy (Chicago)

What team will V-Jax be on next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

If I had a guess I'd say the Chargers. I think they need to give him a long-term deal to show the fans they mean business.

Jacob (Springfield)

Do you believe Scott Pioli will make big moves in free agency and draft considering he maybe on the hot seat?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

He usually doesn't spend big. I think the plan will be to keep Bowe and Carr ands then add some pisces.

Justin (long island)

What are the Chances Peyton goes to the jets?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

I say Washington is the leader in that clubhouse.

BD (Bay Area)

What are the chances Oakland give Bush the franchise tag, with Mcfadens history of injurys?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

We've discussed it on the blog before. I think it's a real possibility.

trevor (toronto)

are the chiefs drafting oline or taking a guy like poe with the 11/12 pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think those are the two areas the Chiefs will look at first.

Andy (Chicago)

Is Dennis Allen going to have full power to hire his coaching staff?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

That's what McKenzie has said. From what I heard, that is the way is it going, yes.

Mr. Micraider (Tejas)

Who is the biggest FA to hit the market in the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I'd say Bowe or Jackson.

Robert (Parksville, BC Canada)

Did you read the article about Arrowhead and the rumors that are floating around about phone taps and the staff turnover in the front office? What is your take on all that?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

We addressed it on the blog the day it came out. I think many former employees in many busineess are unhappy.

Nick W. (Indianapolis)

Are you hearing anything out of San Diego about when talks will start between AJ and Vincent Jackson's camp on a LONG TERM Deal?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Jackson said yesterday that there has bene no talks, but I'm hearing there is reason to believe the Chargers will talk to him.

Khaled (Oakland, California)

Bill I certainly am guardedly optimistic about the Raiders hiring of Allen as the head coach and am pleased to hear how highly regarded he is by his former players and the coaches he has worked for. What will priority one be for Allen is re-shaping the Raiders defensive roster and direction?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Tsckling and being smart will be things Allen preaches.

Anthony (Colorado)

Bill..who do you think Denver will go after for it's DC.?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Fox said he's in no rush. Denver LB coach Richard Smith and former Jax coach Jack Del Rio will likely be top candidtaes.

Randall (Arkansas)

Do you think the Chiefs would go after Paul Soliai in FA this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

He's a nice player who makes sense there, yes.

Jacob Cohen (Phoenix Az)

Hey bill, do you see Denver going after a running back in the first round of the draft or a DT. I know everyone says their taking a DT but thats what theyve said every year and still no luck

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

I think they will be open to those areas. Look at CB as well.

Daylon (Wyoming)

Fox has never been a big on receiving TE's...but I think one would help Tebow immensly. You see Fox going after one after drafting two duds (so far) last draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

They have a solid on in Daniel Fells and they are high on Julius Thomas. Hitting the tight ends is something Tebow will have to improve on. Fells was open a lot last season.

Chris (San Diego)

Any chance Saunders will stick around Oakland to keep continuity with the offense and Palmer? I feel Palmer, under the same offense and full off-season to work out, will be dangerous next year

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I think there is a strong chance of it happening.

Dave (Seattle)

Bill, what are the chances of Allen taking any other coaches from the Bronco staff. Seems to me there would be a nice familiarity there as to how he would run the program. Please tell me they wont bring in Del Rio as the DC, not what the Broncos need at this time. Thanks for your time.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

I think maybe he'd take a couple, but I'd be shocked if he led a mass exodus out of Denver. No promises on Del Rio.

D Corpse (San Diego)

Is the Chargers defense good enough to win the division and beyond? I noticed our defense taking wider stances/splits at times that seemed to open running lanes. What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

We'll see.

Jacob (Springfield)

Defensively, how close are the Chiefs to being elite?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Maybe two real impact guys on the front seven. It was playing great at the end of the season. Getting Berry back will be huge.

Chris (San Diego)

Any word on when the Raiders will announce Allen as coach officially?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Any day now. Don't worry. It's happening.

Mr. Micraider (Tejas)

Who's most likely to be retained this off season;D Bowe-KCV Jax-SDBush-Oak

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I expect them all to be back. It's the beauty of the franchise tag.

Nick W. (Indianapolis)

What does San Diego need to do to get to a Super Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Better pass rush, better health and better ball security.

Eugene La Bre (Atascadero, CA)

Who do you see as the DC & OC for the raiders

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

If I ahd to guess right now: Emmitt Thoams (DC), Al Saunders (OC).

Kenree987 (IN)

why didn't Jerelle Powe see the field this year for the Chiefs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

He's a project. It will take time.

JP Lewis (Poolesville Maryland)

Dennis Allen GREAT PICK

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Glad, you are happy.

Bill (NE)

Bill, I love your blog! Will Denver suffer from any possible big FA losses this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

Thanks, keeping Bunkley and Prater is essential.

Deryc (New Hampshire)

Bill regarding Raiders QBs do you think there will be a battle for QB1 or do you think they will go back with Jason Campbell under center?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Palmer wil be the guy. Expect Cmapbell to walk as a free agent.

mike (ny)

is allen going to continue the switch of huff to cb or will he keep him at safety since he was originally a DB coach and can help HUff with the position

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

That's an interesting quesiton. That news broke when Hue was stil coach. I think Allen will be asked about it soon.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.
