Hang on folks. We're having some server issues that's preventing David from logging on right now.
Better late than never. Sorry about the difficulties. I'll hang around a few minutes longer if that halps. Hope I answered some questions in the question room. Hang on.
If Danica Patrick wins a pole for any of her Sprint Cup Series races will she be eligible for the Budweiser Shootout? What does she have to do in order to race in the Budweiser Shootout?
That would make her eligible. Do you really believe she can win a pole?
When was the Last time that we had a woman Racing in Both the Indianapolis 500 & the Coca-Cola 600 in the Same Year Since Danica is going to race in the Coca-Cola 600.
Never. And she won't do the double this year.
Newt, do you expect all 3 of the JGR Toyota's to make the chase especially with the addition of Darien and the merging of the engine shops?
I do, mainly because I believe Kyle will have a potentially championship run and I look for Logano to emerge. Hamlin simply is too consistent not to make it.
Newt, with The Busch Brothers running every NW race, is it possible that Kurt wasn't joking when he said they might win every single race?
Hey, Kurt's winning percentage in NW is better than Kyle's. I wouldn't be surprised if they win at least 12. No joke.
Hell-o David, With Ford introducing the 2013 "Racing Fusion" with more brand identity, will the others manufacturers follow suit? The Mustang in the NW series looks kinda close to the showroom model. If NASCAR has tight templates, how much different and where will the differences be? Will Chevrolet stick with the Impala? Mopar has some great looking cars out there. Toyota should bring back the Celica, I guess? Your thoughts? Thanks, Bill
They all are following suit. Ford just beat them to the punch with the launch. Chevy is introducing a new model, Toyota is sticking with the Camry. Dodge will use Charger or Challenger, I forget which one. And I'd be all for the Celica. I'd love to have one of the old convertible ones.
will kyle win the cup this year
I am picking JJ, but Kyle is my close second.
Will Jimmie Johnson win another Championship this year??
He's my pick.
Do you see Joey making the chase along with Rowdy and Denny and how do you think Rowdy's old NW crew chief Jason Ratcliff will work with Joey?Do
I do, and I really like the pairing of Joey with Jason. Working on a column on that which could run next week. I look for them to do semi-big things this year.
David: Will Greg Biffle rebound this year and if not, could their be a change for 2013?
They are putting a lot of effort at RFR to turn that program around. Will it be enough to make the Chase? I didn't have him in my top 12 but leaving him out was my toughest call.
Newt. what is your position on cup drivers in NW especially now that Stewart has announced he will be running the Daytona NW race while Rowdy and Edwards are cutting way back?
I don't get as fired up as a lot of people do. Many of the same fans that complain because Cup drivers are in NW want to see the Cup drivers in the NW series when they are at the track. The only way to get NASCAR to eliminate the dipping is for fans to buy more tickets at races where there aren't many Cup drivers to prove they will support when they're not racing.
I see where Rowdy and Dave have a new Chase strategy and was wondering if you've ever seen that #18 team more confident going into a season?
They were pretty confident last year as well. Don't think they can try any harder. They just need more consistency.
kyle said he's following a new fitness routine designed by samantha and you could see it at the monster launch and i was wondering if you think rowdy will be physically stronger during the 10 chase races?
All I can say is if Kyle can keep up with Samantha's workout routine he is a better man than I. Hear she can be brutal.
Is Kurt the first driver to get permission to run for both Toyota and GM and does that show how much clout Kurt has in NASCAR?
Not sure about the specific combo, but there have been drivers who have mixed manufacturers between series before.
Do you expect the Busch Brothers to sweep the NW races this year?
Rowdy won the Late Model Speedfest over the weekend racing against Chase Elliott, Ross Kenseth, Ragan and John Hunter Nemechek and I was wondering if Rowdy is the "Jeff Gordon" hero to this new generation of young drivers?
Funny. I'd go with Chase and Ross as the next Jeff Gordon. One or both will do very well.
When people complain about cup drivers in NW why do they use Kyle Busch as an example when Harvick has run way more NW races than Rowdy?
Because he's a lightning rod for criticism. Not sure about Harvick's numbers, but Edwards has competed in a ton as well. Wrote a column last year noting that fact.
How much of a downfall do you expect at Penske due to the loss of Kurt Busch technical expertise?
Funny. It's not his technical expertise they'll miss, but his ability to help Keselowski improve setups. Think it was Brad K who called Kurt one of the best talents in the sport.
Last year in a Marty interview with Brad K, he was complaining that Tony Stewart refuses to talk to him or have anything to do with him. Why?
Missed that one, but Brad K wouldn't be the first person Tony hasn't talked to.
Denny said that Tony helped bring Darien to JGR and I was wondering why Tony favored JGR over Darien returning to HMS?
Bottom line, Darian wanted to remain a crew chief with a top driver. No room at the inn at HMS.
If Danica is locked into the 500 with Baldwin's owners points what's the point of running the duels?
Do you see Bowyer or Truex having the better season and if Martin doesn't win a race or make the chase do you think Kurt will be in the NAPA car in 2013?
I'm going with Bowyer. And you are right, this is a pivotal year for Truex. You're not the first to suggest that Kurt could be looming there, but he could be looming at several other places such as Gibbs and RPM.
I read where Burton said of the current cup drivers only Kurt, Kyle, Gordon, Johnson and Stewart are locks for the HOF with Labonte making it as a cup champ. Do you agree with Jeff's assessment?
I wouldn't say Kurt is a lock yet. Which Labonte are you talking about, Bobby or Terry. Terry has two titles so I'd give him the edge there.
David, have you heard if the other manufactures are going to change models in 2013? Ford is sticking with the Fusion (and I think it looks great) but with the other 3 stick with what they are running now or change?
Only Chevy is changing models. Not sure what it will be. A new name I am hearing. I want the Chevelle SS back.
Do you expect Buescher and those guys to rough up Danica in NW like they did last year or more of the cup guys like Harvick that will be jealous of her?
Nope. And if they do I'd watch out, she can get pretty rough herself in a car. One of the things she likes about having fenders.
Mr. France was very strong in his language condemning Kesolwski for questioning the integrity of NASCAR in his negative comments about EFI and I was wondering if you think this action finally has cut Kesolwski down to size?
He wasn't pointing out Brad K as much as he was saying anybody that questioned NASCAR's integrity would be fined. No different than any other league.
While the atmosphere may be electric at Phoenix, do you really think Kurt can make the chase in that equipment? No doubt he is a very skilled driver, a bit overrated I think though. The year he won the championship he had a tire going down at Dover, he went to hit pit road and was about to hit the wall. Tires comes off, he makes pit road and ends up in the top 5 on the restart. He should have gone two laps down. Lots of luck involved with that title.
I do think he can make the Chase in that equipment. Hendrick chassis and engines worked out pretty good for Stewart don't you think?
The confidence is way high at Hendrick. I think they were down a bit last year but I expect a surge from Hendrick this year. I got every driver winning a race and all making the chase. I think Dale Jr. has a breakout year. Thoughts?
They still had three of four drivrs make the Chase, but not having one finish top 5 in points was a down year. Of course, most owners would love such down years. And I am with you on Dale Jr. Just a hunch he will have a sound season.
When is ESPN NASCAR Now scheduled to begin?
I believe the first week of Speedweeks.
Do you think Kurt will last the full season with Finch, especially after the comments Finch made about not putting up with him like other owners have?
I do. He has to. His future depends on it.
Giants or Pats?
Giants. I'm an NFC man.
Any news on possible additional races being added to the Truck Series?
David, have you talked with Courtney Force? Is she really a lot like her dad! Gonna be a fun year in NHRA with those 2!
I have, and nobody is totally like her dad, thank goodness.
Is it possibly that 11 of the 12 chasers this year are the same as last year? I see Kurt Busch falling out and Kasey Kahne taking his spot. Does anyone else seem ready to make a run at it?
Possible, but not likely. I've got Joey Logano making it as well as Kasey Kahne. That means somebody is out.
Any news on what Brian Vickers is doing next season?
Just rumors, anywhere from retirement to putting together a financial group to buy what was Red Bull.
What makes drivers like Mikey and Junior only good on the plate tracks while The Busch Brothers, Stewart and Gordon excel on all the tracks?
You might say that about Waltrip, but not Junior. He's won his share of races at Richmond and other non plate tracks. If he was so bad on the other tracks he wouldn't have made the Chase last year or any other year.
Suppose Danica runs 20th in cup and doesn't win a race in NW. Will all the hoopla go away or will she be like Junior II, getting lots of attention for not winning?
Hey, nothing wrong with getting attention for not winning. The Detroit Lions did it for a long time in the NFL. Seriously, I do see the hoopla fading a bit if she struggles on the track, but there always will be a group attracted to her for the same reasons there are groups that like Dale Jr.
It doesn't seem like the EFI is as big an issue as people thought is was going to be. Haven't heard any drivers say yah or nah.
Not sure why people thought it would be a big issue anyway. They have engineers trained to handle such things, and it's no more different for the drivers than it is for you and I when we switch from a car iwth a carburetor to fuel injection.
You make a good point on the Stewart thing. I think that proves that Tony is actually underrated as a driver, if that is possible?
What shop combines to win more races? 48/88 or 5/24?
Tough one. I'll go with 5-24.
I wouldnt say Kyle is a lock yet either. He hasn't got a title and if he doesn't I think he will have to have a career like Mark Martin to get in, and he isn't that old yet!
Kyle is only 26. He'll have plenty enough wins to get him in even if he doesn't win a title.
david, your thoughts on Sadler running the 500 for RCR and do you think EGR bounces back this year?
Sadler deserved that shot more than anyone else with the organization. He's a good plate driver and I expect he'll do well. As for EGR, depends on what you mean by bounce back. I believe Jamie and Juan will be between 12th and 18th in points.
Sorry about the earlier technical trouble. I'd stay around longer but have a phoner to make the SHR-TBR alliance official. Thanks and chat with you next week.
