Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Hi everyone. Hey folks, I need to cut out at 11:40 today. Thanks. Let's get rolling.

Vijay (Nashville)

Could you see the Broncos making a run at DeSean Jackson? Seems like a speedy WR who can stretch the field vertically works perfectly with Tebow's skills and is a major need in Denver.

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

It's funny because he was targeted by Denver in the draft in 2008. But in the end, Denver took Eddie Royal voer Jackson. But I don't see this regime spending big on a receiver right now and I don't see any receivers wanting to come to Denver in free agency right now. Tim Tebow has to prove he can be a consistent passer before the team commits to any receivers.

jesse (kirksville)

Even with Berry out, the chiefs still had the #6 pass defense. If they retain bowe and Carr plus get help at nose tackle with moeaki, Berry, Charles and cassel back, do you think the chiefs can make a serious push for the playoffs?maybe they'd be the severely underrated team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

I'm completley with you. I think this team is closer to the 2010 Chiefs than the 2011 Chiefs. I like them a lot.

Matt (Stockton)

What do you think DMc is worth on the trading block???

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Probably a late frist-rounder with perhaps a conditional mid-rounder based on play time.

Darrell (Hyattsville Marylnand)

Do you think that the San Diego Charger should draft a QB in this April draft.

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Maybe late in the draft. San Diego has brought in Jonathan Crompton and Scott Tolzien in the past couple of years but neither stuck. I could see them taking a run at another youngster again.

Jeff (On my way home)

Could anyone in the AFC west grab Justin Blackmon? I think he is a stud

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

He'll be long gone before any team in the division picks. Get home safely.

Smush (RaiderNation)

Hi Bill, can you explain what Al Saunders' 'Senior Offensive Assistant' position is exactly? I know the Raiders did not announce a description of his duties, and google is anything but helpful in finding some sort of description. Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think he'll be in an advisory role, particulary in the passing game. An extra pair of eyes.

jp (the ville)

Hey Bill great job this year...what would be the best move or moves (in your mind) that Denver could make?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Thanks ... a dominant DT, another CB and a young running back.

Udayan Gupta (New York, NY)

After all these years, it seems that Norv and his staff just can't seem to put a complete team together. As an envious Chargers fan living in Giant territory, what do you think is the team's biggest hurdle to finally putting together a serious super bowl run?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

They need an impact player or three on defense, they need top cut down on turnovers on offense and they may have better health.

Rick (Raider Nation GA)

More important for Oakland to retain Tyvin Branch or Michael Bush?Franchise tag for one of them? If so, which one.

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Very interesting question. It may be Bush because of McFadden's health. But Branch is a priority as well.

MAX (CA)

what should the chargers do at #18 if the pass rushers are off the board (Upshaw, Ingram, Coples, Perry)

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

O-line.

Nick (Denver)

Bill- is Knowshon Moreno's career in Denver over?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

I think he goes to camp with them, but I wouldn't count on him being around for the long-term. I think they are moving on from him.

kevin (Boulder)

who do you see the broncos bringing in to compete with Tebow?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I'm not sure if it will be a real competition. I think Denver wants Tebow to be the guy. I can see them drafting a quarterback from the mid-to-late rounds and bring in a vet backup if Brady Quinn doesn't come back.

Brad (Iowa City)

How active do you think Denver is going to be in free agency? Do you see them adding some big names on D or stick to resigning our own free agents?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

I'm not sure we'll see a huge name coming into Denver, but I could a few starter-quality players signed.

matt (stockton ca)

Do you think Reggie will trade into the first round?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

If he wants to say goodbye to Darren McFadden.

Brad (Iowa City)

Any chance Dre Kirpatrick slides to denver in the draft after his legal issues?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

I believe the charges wwere dropped. I don't know if he tumbles to No. 25, but he'd bea huge value there.

Maximus (SD)

Should Tolbert be risigned by the Chargers? I think they need to spend the $ on defense and WR (V-Jax or FA) and Tolbert is just an average RB anyways

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Tolbert is special because he helps as a rusher, receiver, blocker and on special teams. He is a key role player and he needs to be kept.

Bubs (Montana)

Is Matt Prater a top 5 kicker in the NFL? He had an incredible season and seems to be getting better.

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think he's really good, yes.

Alexander (SD)

What do the Chargers do at #18 if the pass rushers are off the board. Should plan B be S, OL and WR in that order?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

The WR need depends on V-Jax. I think safety (Mark Barron) could be in the mix. But don't discount the o-line, either.

Max (SD)

Why is Norv Turner is coaching the Chargers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Because Dean Spanos says so.

Jordan Banton (Madison Heights, VA)

Will the Raiders continue to play man coverage the majority of the time or will the new regime mix up the coverages more?

carlos (Santa Maria,Ca) [via mobile]

If the raiders don't turn it around these next couple of years how long do u think it will take for coaches to start being fired

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

It's a new day by the bay and expect DA to do his own thing. On firing: It usually takes three years for ownership to lose patience.

Joey (Tucson)

Great Work Bill!As for my Raiders. Coaching hires seems pretty interesting. What are you thoughts of us going to the college ranks to grab some of our defensive coaching staff? Especially the DC who has "zero" play calling experience. I believe that our offense is set and even more solid with the team retaining Saunders, but our defense has hurt us and having a bunch of first timers from the college ranks is a little questionable. Did nobody want to come to this team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Thanks ... I think the fact that Dennis Allen is a defensive coach, having some inexperience is not the wost thing ever, but yes, it is not an inspiring group yet.It will be interesting if Allen changes course and decides to call the plays.By the way, hearing Johnny Holland may be in play for the linebackers coach. He was fired by Houston in 2011. Also, former KC d-line coach Tim Krumrie is in play for the same job in Oakland.

Mike newyork [via mobile]

Could peyton manning work in denver? i think it would be a good fit tebow could learn a lot from peyton.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I don't think Denver will be a favorite to land Manning, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos thought about it. Hall of Famers like other Hall of Fmaers and I'm sure John Elway would be intrigued by the idea of working with Manning.

IronMountain (Poway)

If the Chargers let Castillo go do you think they will go DE in the first round, or OLB? They have to resign Gaither, and then they need an OG, ILB, to go with DE and OLB, defense win championships, and the Chargers pass rush is anemic!

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think pass-rusher will be their top priority, regardless.

Nick (Denver)

Bill-who will be the QB for the KC chiefs when the they start the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I say it is Matt Cassel. I truly think he is the guy they want to be their quarterback.

dan (milwaukee)

BW,Can we expect another 8-8 winner out of the AFCW next year? NFCS and AFCN are on the rotation.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

There are some brutal schedules in the West and that was a problem in 2011 because it played the AFCE (New England ran right through the division) and the NFCN.But I think we may see a 10-game winner in the West this year. Who you ask? Too early to tell.

Dan (Pittsburgh)

Do you think Palmer can lead the Raiders to the playoffs or will Terrelle Pryor get a shot in the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

No, I don't see Pryor getting a shot to start this season unless Palmer gets hurt. Pryor was Al Davis' pick. This new regime is only connected to him because it cost a third-round pocik this year.

robert g (niskayuna, ny)

y or N cut seymore or rolondo to send a mess.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Why Seymour? No way.

Loren (Ballwin)

I read an insider piece projecting next years playoffs and they have the Chargers going. The reasoning was that they have a softer schedule and play in a weak division. Why does everyone think the West is so weak? I think you can make a case for each team to win the division and make noise in the playoffs.

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I don't think it is weak. It is young and average at this point. But this division has a chance to explode soon.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Could you see the Broncos next year being like the Bucs this year -- a playoff team that takes a step way back...young team with a maturing QB...

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

With a tough schedule, sure I can see that happening.

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Gotta bolt, folks. Talk to you next week.BW.
