OK, let's get rolling...
Any news about our non conference schedule? I heard some rumors about adding Fsu and UTEP. Are those true? Also it seems like tulsa is always good for a game. Why not them?
OU is playing Tulsa in 2013, '14 and '15. I see UTEP as way more likely than Florida State. No way Bob agrees to playing FSU and Notre Dame in the same season. If I had to guess, the non-conf schedule will include UTEP in the Sun Bowl and N. Dakota State at home.
How many years of eligibility does Jordan Wade have? Does he still have the option to redshirt?
Because he wasn't enrolled last fall, he still has four years and a redshirt if the Sooners want to use one. My guess is that they won't. They need him to be ready to play in 2013, when McFarland, McGee and Walker will all be gone.
Why is OU unable to get the elite defensive recruits it needs to really be able to compete outside the big 12? Defense is never going to stop winning championships.
The emphasis on this class was offense. OU will go heavy defense next year. If they strike out next year, then you'll have a legitimate beef.
If Landry Jones get injured who do the sooners go with Allen, Bell or Thompson? Why?
If Landry got hurt tomorrow, Allen would be the QB. If Landry got hurt in August, who knows? Could be Bell if his passing continues to improve. Thompson has some potential, but he has a ways to go in terms of learning the offense to catch up with Allen or Bell.
What is the latest on the Neal kid from Arizona??
Not going to OU.
Is OU playing at west virgina and at Tcu in September? That will be a tough stretch if so
I think there's a very good chance OU plays at West Virginia in Sept. And yes, that would be a tough game. WV will be for real next season.
Which OU Players do you enjoy following on twitter? por que?
Me gusto Drew Allen. Especially when he tries to stump the OU compliance office.
Do u see Colvin moving to CB or staying at safety?
I see him staying at safety. At least that's where OU would prefer to play him.
How will team compensate without Ryan Broyles?
You can't replace a Ryan Broyles with one player. OU will try to do it with several, including a host of talented newcomers. There's enough talent on this offense to score 40-plus a game next season.
Out of all the road games, does WVU have the biggest chance of beating OU?
Yes, that's the toughest game on the schedule. Maybe by far.
Do you think Damien Williams can come in and start ahead of Dominique Whaley immediately?
Only if Whaley is not ready to play by August, of which there is a decent possibility.
What are your thoughts on that JUCO back OU has coming in? I saw some video and he was a beast, with soft hands. Also, can you...DoTheGundy?
Williams looks really good on film, but I tend to take a wait-and-see approach with incoming JUCOs before hyping them up. I'm actually Doing the Gundy right now.
Will Jaz Reynolds be ready to go in the fall?
Barring something unforeseen with the kidney, yes.
What defensive player are you MOST excited about next season?
What defensive player are you MOST excited about next season?
Are you using fake names?
With the hiring of Mike Stoops, will there be any difference in the defense this upcoming year (i.e. blitz more/less, press coverage/zone)
I expect Mike Stoops to simplify the secondary coverages significantly next season. There's no question OU's DBs at times looked like they had no idea what they were supposed to be doing at times. Guys like Derrick Strait have told me that Mike preaches simplicity back there so guys can focus more on playing instead of thinking. The rest of the defense should be fairly similar.
Who has the better pro career - T. Lewis or R. Broyles?
For a while it sounded as if Oklahoma was interested in playing TAMU on a regular basis. Whatever became of that idea?
Bob Stoops laughed at that suggestion a couple of weeks ago. So I would say that has zero chance of happening.
Out of the five or so QB targets for OU in the 2013 class, which of them do you rate the most highly and which one or two is OU likely to get?
It's way too early to speculate across the board. I do like Swoopes a lot, and like OU's chances there, though.
I am very very sneaky.
What defensive player are you MOST excited about next season? And why?
Tony Jefferson. Excited to see what Mike Stoops does with him.
Your guess on if OU sticks with speedster Trey Franks for KR and goes with Shepherd or Neal for PR? That is what I would like to see.
I see Franks sticking on kick return. He began to show signs of life in the Insight Bowl on kick return. Sterling and Neal will get chances to return punts. I can see Sterling thriving there.
Now that Oklahoma has been eliminated from the Davonte Neal sweepstakes, will OU offer that scholarship to another player? Maybe they can still get a good player. I remember Lane Johnson being a really late addition to the 09 class.
Possible but unlikely.
Do you expect Gardner to have a solid impact come next season, in comparison to the other receivers? Who do you think is a "break out" or "dark horse" offensive playmaker?
I think it's asking a lot of Gardner to earn a starting spot right away, but I could see him making a big midseason impact, similar to Cam Kenney a couple of years ago. Gardner has a ton of talent, but is still a little raw in spots. He might take a little seasoning. Metoyer, Neal and D. Williams are all breakout candidates offensively.
Do u think Tom Wort will remain in the middle with Brent gone, or will be moved outside?
No, he's staying in the middle. Unless he gets moved to nickelback, Corey Nelson will be on the weak side. OU is solidified at LB.
Your % guess on OU coming to UTEP this fall? I am psyched at the possibility of OU being in my backyard again. Thanks.
I think the chances are good. Seems to be the most feasible of the possibilities that have been thrown out there.
Which Sooner gets drafted first in the NFL draft in April and why?
Ronnell Lewis, because of his upside. I think Ronnell has only begun to scratch the surface of his potential.
Do you think Daniel Brooks ends up as a DB or does he make headway at RB? Based on his film he looks like he has T. Franks speed with R. Finch elusiveness...
I think the Sooners will give him a look in the slot initially, but it's very possible he gets moved to corner ultimately. Brooks has world class speed... I could see him becoming a return specialist as well. The Sooners could really use somebody like that.
Will Kellen Jones receive playing time for the Sooners this year at LB?
Yeah, I think so. Especially if Jaydan Bird gets moved full time to fullback, which is possible. He played really well there in the Belldozer in the Insight Bowl. Kellen's versatility -- he can play the middle or weakside -- should help him get on the field more, too. He and Frank Shannon could end up being the top two backup LBs in '12.
Do you think Sterling Shepherd has a similar comparison to ryan broyles when it comes to hands, speed, and rout running?
Yes, very similar player. But it's unfair to suggest that Sterling will become the next Ryan Broyles. We may never see another Ryan Broyles. That said, Sterling has the tools to become a very good college slot receiver.
Are there any Mark Clayton clones in this heraleded 2012 receiver class?
I suppose Neal would be the closest.
Do you think we see Harris starting at safetey again with a simplified coverage scheme? He seems like a great athelete that can make plays, he was a bit over-aggressive at times
It's possible, but in talking with Mike Stoops, I get the feeling the Sooners will open the spring with Tony and Colvin playing back, and Joe Ibiloye in the nickel. Mike was pleased with how Ibby performed there in the Insight Bowl. I do think it would be a mistake to just give up on Harris, though. He did make a lot of plays last season, and if he can learn to be a little more disciplined against the play-action, he could become a very solid college safety. Also a great kid, too.
Who will have the better NFL career - Landry Jones, Ryan Tannehill or Darron Thomas?
Landry. Thomas' skills don't really fit the NFL game, and Tannehill, quite frankly, just isn't as good as Landry.
Who ends up on the cover of NCAA Football 13?
Has to be an outgoing senior, right?... Won't be Richardson since Ingram was on the last cover... I'll say Luck or Blackmon.
Of the incoming receivers...who is the best (most upside at this point)?
Upside? Probably Metoyer. He has all the physical skills you could want out of a high school receiver.
Where does Travis Lewis get drafted in April? His stock will drop do to injury, but do you think he'll prove to be a steal for some team?
He's probably looking at rounds 5-6... somewhere in there. I'm not sure how Travis' game will translate to the next level. He needs to flash some speed at the combine.
Does anyone on OU's roster have a chance at being Oklahoma's Next Great Defensive Lineman? I mean, All-America caliber...
Jordan Phillips, maybe. He is a big-time athlete, a DT that can dunk like a swingman. OU is counting on big things from him.
Since OSU finally has to travel to OU, how badly will they get beat this year?
I doubt as bad as OSU beat OU last season.
Whats the weakest position on Offense and Defense?
Offense: Left tackle and tight end. Two complete unknowns. Defense: Defensive end. No impact returners.
Whenever I think of OU's chances at a NC, I say, "Nay. Too many holes on defense." But then I look at OSU's defense last year which was porous, to say the least but with A LOT of helpful turnovers. You think with Mike Stoops at the helm and above average athletes we could have just enough D and turnovers to make a run at it?
It's near impossible to count on forcing turnovers being your path to a national championship. That's almost impossible to coach. You either have ballhawks or you don't.
Did the 2010 class kind of plateau as sophs? If so, more injury related than anything else?
Did the class plateau? That's too strong a word. Individual players maybe didn't reach stardom like we thought they might. And you're right, injuries had a lot to do with that. I still believe the '10 class has a chance to be the best of the Stoops era.
But dont you think Wort is better suited for the outside. He is not physical enough on the inside. C.Nelson would play the SLB role, with Bird on the inside
No, Wort is plenty physical to play in the middle. The question is, can he stay healthy there? OU has had a tough time keeping its middle linebackers healthy lately. Having a reliable backup like Bird will be paramount.
How much of an impact does Trey Millard have on the running for next year
A huge impact. He makes the Belldozer go. I would give him 4-5 carries a game more consistently. He makes things happen with the ball in his hands.
Which Running backs do you think get the most touches besides Finch, if Dom Whaley isn't back 100%?
Damien Williams for sure, that's why they signed him. After Williams, Clay, assuming he finally becomes 100 percent healthy. The Sooners could turn to Ross, but he's also a redshirt candidate.
How many freshman (true or redshirt) do you see playing significant roles this season? And who?
WRs Neal, Metoyer and Shepard; TE McNamara; maybe one of the CBs, Simon or Sanchez. Possibly Brooks on special teams.
I'm stationed away from Oklahoma and I was wonderin what the talk is around there about Bob Stoops on the hot seat if this seaons ends with 3-4 losses again?
Bob Stoops would have to lose more than 4 games to be on the hot seat.
What percentage to you give OU on winning the Big 12? NCG?
OU will be the favorite to win the Big 12. I see OU being around 12-to-1 to win the national title.
Will the offensive line improve this year and be able to consistently open holes for the running game? The unit has been average at best since the Loadholt and Joseph line a few years back?
I believe this group has the chance to be OU's best since the '08 line. Four starters are back, including three multi-year starters. Adam Shead is a rising star, and brings physicality to the run game. The key will be the tackles. Can Lane Johnson make a seamless switch to LT? Can somebody like Daryl Williams emerge at RT?
Which new player do you think will stand out in the up coming spring game?
Trey Metoyer could make a Kenny Stills-like splash. Taylor McNamara could become an instant starter.
Damien Williams ought to get a lot of work, too.
I think Courtney Gardner will have a Justin Blackmon type impact on the Oklahoma team. I am willing to bet he is the biggest in terms of weight and will be the most physical WR in the Big12 this year, thoughts?
I would curtail those expectations a bit.
Who will be the deep snapper next year?
Austin Woods, the FG snapper the last two years, should take over for Winchester on punt snaps.
Guys, that's all the time we have. Sorry I couldn't get to all the questions. We'll do it again next week, same time, same place. Have a great week, and if you're in Oklahoma, try to stay warm.
