Chat with Jean-Jacques Taylor

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:04 PM)

J.Cole, Wale and Adele on iTunes today. Let's roll. Cowboys, Stars, Rangers, Mavs.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Will we ever see Teams from Dallas,Texas win a Pro Sports Final in All Sports in the Same Year?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:05 PM)

I wouldn't think so. The Cowboys and Stars have quite a ways to go

PL (SC)

Mr. JJT, Randy Moss to the Boyz?I'm just asking because of the possibility of robinson not resigning.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:05 PM)

hecccccccccckkkkkkk no. Jason Garrett doesn't want a guy like randy on the roster

Ronnie (Little Elm, TX)

Do you think that Kosier could slide over and play C, he already makes all the line calls and I think it would be easier to bring back Holland to play guard and either draft or sign another.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:06 PM)

he could, but do you want a 10-year veteran who has never played a lick of center in the NFL being your center when the season starts? heck no.

Sean (Fairfax VA)

do the cowboys have the personell to switch to the 4-3?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:08 PM)

nope. Once u get the personnel switched, it takes a couple of years to switch back. The scheme ain't the problem. It's the talent

Brad (Toronto)

Do you think that Dirk will play in the ASG or will he sit out?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:09 PM)

He'll play in the all-star game. He'll probably play 15-20 minutes and call it a night

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:09 PM)

u can find me on twitter at @jjt_espndallas if I don't get to your question today

Todd (Pa)

First off on the fence about the tag on Spencer but Let's say Boys' sign Nicks n Finn or Routt then draft time comes and can pick between Kirkpatrick/Upshaw or Kirkpatrick/Ingram wouldn't you take the pass rusher if ur GM? IMO they are both needs but I feel pass rush or lack there of is the bigger issue. Especially if Spencer walks. Thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:11 PM)

I wouldn't franchise Spencer. You're either there (stud) or on your way. You don't give players who don't fit either category a one-year deal for $8.8 million. There's NOTHING he will show you in year six that you haven't seen in year 5. This was his FA year and he was just a dude. He can be replaced by a lower-priced veteran or a draft pick

JD (Crofton, MD)

Can Bruce Carter play OLB? Therefore we could draft Kuechly?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:11 PM)

he's an inside LB

Victor (Miami)

Not suggesting the cowboys should make this move, but how do you think peyton manning can do on this team with this talent and his knowledge of the game?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:12 PM)

he would get killed. Romo avoided 15-20 sacks last season. Manning couldn't avoid.

Brad (Toronto)

JJT, what do you think the chances are the Mavs resign JET? He would definitely take a pay cut to stay in Dallas, especially with the chance to win with D12 and Dwill. He even said he wants to retire in Dallas.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:14 PM)

I never say a guy will definitely take a pay cut. would you, if you thought you had performed to a high standard? That's what I thought.I wouldn't either. We all want players to give a hometown discount, but we wouldn't do it. They probably have to let him go to sign Deron Williams or Dwight Howrd

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

What are your thoughts about the Mavericks 4-game win streak against 4 contenders in the West? They have looked sloppy at times, but 2 of the wins were on the road. Above all, they looked like veterans compared to the other 4 teams who were all younger but more athletic

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:14 PM)

The Mavs know how to win and Dirk is a great closer.

Gary (Los Feliz)

JJT, I think Janoris Jenkins is the real deal! How far can you see him dropping in the draft because of his off field issues?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:18 PM)

The Cowboys - Jerry and Garrett - have no interest in dudes with off-the-field issues. None. I'd be shocked if they drafted him

a.j. (las vegas)

Kobe is one of the worst closers in the NBA. As for the Mavs, who will fall out of the rotation now that Kidd, Odom and Haywood are back healthy?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:19 PM)

Kobe remans one of the best closers in the league. Ask any coach. They curl up in the fetal position when he has the ball in his hands at the end of the game. Maybe, he hits it. Maybe, he doesn't. But no one wants to see the ball in his hands at the end of the game. Roddy B. will see his minutes reduced to almost none and Mahinmi gets his cut as Wright gets better

  (1:21 PM)

Dallas isn't signing Nicks. There's no way New Orleans lets him get free. Many of y;all don't want to let Spencer go free and he's just a guy. The Saints aren't going to let one of the game's best guards walk. look for New Orleans to franchise him

Brad (Toronto)

Will Odom end up long term in Dallas? No doubt they will decline his team option for next year, but do Carlisle and Cuban like him enough to sign him long term?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

I wouldn't think so. he's going to want more money than a 4th option and bench player should get. Besides after watching him play this season, do you really want him back?

Mac (CT)

Just watched the movie Contagion. Did you put on weight?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

did u?

Brad (Toronto)

JJT, JET's going to be 35 next year. Who will honestly sign him for more than 5-6 million in the new CBA? He'll likely earn more in Dallas with Bird rights than anywhere else.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:23 PM)

i would agree with that, but all it takes is one. He's a shooter in a league without shooters and he's a guy who's not afraid of the 4th quarter. I'd like to see him back in Dallas, but u never know when it comes to money. It's his last deal, so he wants as much paper as he can get.

Brian (Austin)

What is dallas waiting for to Cut Newman!!??

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

you don't cut players until you have too. It doesn't matter whether they cut him today or 2 weeks from now or a month from now. What's your hurry?

victor (miami)

yeah but the colts line is worst than dallas and peyton knows how to avoid the rush pre-snap

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

not happening. Stop it.

Troy (Hayward, WI)

What do you think is the biggest position of need for the Cowboys?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:25 PM)

cornerback and pass-rushing linebacker in any order

Karl (Richardson)

With the Cowboys having so many holes to fill, wouldn't it make sense for the Cowboys to trade down from 14? The Cowboys could drop down to the mid 20s and pick up an extra 2nd, and potentially trade down again and end up with three 2nd round picks and a couple of picks in the 3rd.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:26 PM)

No. No. No. Stay and take the best player. Part of the Cowboys' problem is they're always trading down and taking a slightly inferior player. Enough.

John (TX)

G-men are terrible front runners. The Cowboys have a good shot at winning the east in 2012. Thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:30 PM)

No. No. No. 3rd place. The Giants are better and the Eagles are better. they went 0-4 against those teams. Until they beat them, I'm not believing they will. It's OK for them to prove me wrong.

shanard (utah)

JJTif jerry jones upgrades the off.line and the defense is a lil bit better next yr, i believe we could outscore teams with better protection, and jus get by with the defesne like the patriots but i believe we will be slightly better.......

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:32 PM)

You dreaming bro. This team ain't a couple of inches away from winning. It's a couple of yardsticks. It lacks some intestinal fortitude that takes time to develop.

Neil (College Station, TX)

Are we REALLY giving Jason Kidd a pass for that horrific turnover last night?? If that had been Roddy he'd be benched for at least 5 games. Look, I love what Kidd ahs done for us in the past few years, and especially during last years final run, but this year he's just not that effective this year

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:34 PM)

Really? Let's see, one dude is a HOF PG and the other is a dude with a couple of good games. So Kidd does get the benefit of the doubt. The reality, though, is the Mavs won so the focus turned on Dirk and the victory. If Butler hits the 3, then all you would've read about this AM was Kidd. If you don't think Kidd is important, then you're not watching the game. it's about subtleties with Kidd. Three rebounds, three assists and a steal in the 4Q. Getting Dirk and Jet open looks they can knock down. That's what Kidd does. He's way beyond stats. Watch him - not the game - and you'll see all of the stuff he does

Jack (CT)

The Saints might have to franchise Brees. They also have to make a decision on Colston vs. Nicks. So Nicks could be a FA.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:35 PM)

They aren;t franchising Brees. he'll get the long-term deal he wants. They have plenty of receivers. Based on the folks I've spoken to, they expect the Saints to franchise Nicks, if an agreement can't be reached. Nicks is better at his job than Colston at his.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

If you know how to draft then trading down makes more sense. If you know how to use the players you draft because you evaluated properly then it makes even more sense, But if you draft the wrong player no matter how talented then you get the Dallas Cowboys...

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

what makes u think this team knows how to draft? I have no confidence based on the results lately. Stay there and take the best player. You can never, ever go wrong with the best player on the board

Brad (Toronto)

Do you think the Mavs try and trade Roddy B and D Jones this year at the deadline? Wouldn't hurt to clear some extra cap, and maybe get another vet with an expiring deal

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:37 PM)

for what? a couple pair of Jordans and a program from the All-Star game? Those dudes have no value around the league right now.

Wayne (MN)

nfl newtork is reporting that the cowboys will tag spencer, do you agree and will they eventually sign him longterm?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:38 PM)

It's dumb to franchise him and no way I'd give him a long-term deal. Column coming later this week. He gave you virtually nothing in a FA year. What can he show in Year 6 that he hasn't shown in some other year?

Neil (College Station, TX)

People always say that about Kidd (he does more than the box score shows). But lets talk about what the box score DOES show. The guy is shooting like 30% and has a pretty bad assist to turnover rate. I do believe he does more than the box score shows but the guy has REALLY been struggling this year. If you don't see that then you're not watching Jason Kidd or the game.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:40 PM)

It's not my job to persuade you. Intelligent people can disagree, but if you think Delonte West and Roddy B - the only point guard options on the team - are better running the offense than Kidd, then all I can do is shake my head. Is Kidd a great player still? No. Is he effective on this team, yes. Dirk says it. Jet says it. Carlisle says it. In this case, I'll take their opinions over yours. Not always, but this time.

Gary (Los Feliz)

How would you describe Bruce Carter's style of play? Is he a thumper? Finesse type? Who would you compare him to?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:40 PM)

he hasn't played enough for me to know. We'll find out next season. no reason he shouldn't start.

John (TX)

Dude you are so negative on the Boys. I realize they have done nothing to prove you wrong, but you much be a Giants fan!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:42 PM)

it's the truth. 120-120 with one playoff win since 1996. They have not had consecutive 10-win seasons since 1994 and 1995. It's not my job to be a sunshine pumper. There are other websites and other writers for that. I deal in reality - not what u want reality to be.

NYC_Cowsheep (NYC)

JJT, Does Ratliff finally move to one of the Defensive End positions this year? We need a space-eater in the middle of the 3-4 D-Line. Hopefully, we can find one in the draft or free agency.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:42 PM)

I think he'll spend a lot more time there and Josh Brent will spend more time at NG. I'd love to see them get a 350-pound dude who can't be moved. That's what all of the best 3-4 defenses have.

Willow (Southside)

Is Cuban right in his ripping the league on the lack of value the Hornets received on the Paul trade (Subplot - Does the league want to turn the New Orleans fans against the team so that they can relocate them? It seems to be working.)

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:44 PM)

Yes. It was an awful situation and Eric Gordan still hasn't played. They gave up Chris Paul for a dude that can't get healthy. We'd be ripping any other league exec who made a deal like that. I'm not a david stern fan. Pompous. Arrogant. Know-it-all dude.

bruce (cali)

is this a probowl year for dez this year?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:44 PM)

3rd year is usually a breakout year for wideouts. If he stays out of trouble off the field, then he might be able to put it together this year.

Mac (CT)

Boy seems like folks would rather you not give an honset insider opinion and just say that you think the Boys will win the SB next year.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:46 PM)

it is what it is...lol...I'm used to it. I'm not for everybody. I do me, tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

The Cowboys could stay and take the best player but often times their view on who's best is different from another team's view. And midway throught the season fans are asking hey why didn't we draft him instead of the guy we got.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:46 PM)

we didn't say that about Tyron Smith?

JOE (Sacramento)

Play the GM for the cowboys for 1 minute. I know you need to loose a few thousand brain cells first. Do you zero in on a CB or Decastro in the first round?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:47 PM)

let's wait for the combine first. Then we'll know how guys stack up and we can compare and contrast

Brad (Toronto)

As much as I'd like to see Dwight, Deron, Dirk all in Dallas, how good do they think they'll actually be together? Specifically Dirk and Dwight. Between the two, there's no way Dirks gonna give him the last shot like he wants.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

I don't think they're coming to Dallas. I'll be ready to anoint Cuban a genius if he pulls this off. Until then, I reserve judgment.

Jermaine (NY)

does sean lee have the qualities to be the leader they desperately need on defense?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

he might. It's hard to know after 2 seasons. First thing, you have to be a good players. He is that

Willow (Southside)

If they approve the realignment, good thing for the Stars to move in division with former rivals, the Wings, Hawks, Blues and others, or better for them with the current setup?

ronnie (little elm, tx)

better fit. routt or marshall

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:49 PM)

better for them to move into central time zone where folks will actually stay up and watch their game on the left coast.

Karl (Richardson)

JJT - the best team in the last decade is the Patriots and they swing and miss all the time on high draft picks, but the difference is that they realize that it is a numbers game - the more picks you have the better chance you have in finding a real player.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

The Packers and Steelers don't do a lot of moving around. Neither do the Giants and all of those teams seem to be doing just fine. You have your philosophy and I have mine. INtelligent men can disagree.

Brandon (Fort Worth)

Do you really believe that Rob Ryan is the right coordinator for this defense? I know the lockout situation didn't help with installing his defense and this defense is lacking all round depth and talent, but all we got from him is the same thing from Rex, more talk than show.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:51 PM)

it's a talent issue. Wouldn't matter if Buddy ryan in his prime was coaching this team, Terence Newman is still going to give up a double move in the fourth quarter on third and 12.

Brian (NC)

Boys need to learn from the Pats and move on from ave players. JJ just hold on to guys too long. Maybe a good oil man, but a terrible GM!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:51 PM)

now that's a legit point. when you decided a dude can't play, then cut him

Ronnie (Little Elm, TX)

Besides the obvious two area's of need for the cowboys at CB and OG, what are the other area's that need to be addressed the most.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:54 PM)

outside linebacker and safety

Derek (California)

Joe Nathan & Yu Darvish vs. Albert Pujols

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

should be fun. I love the AL this season with NY, Boston, LAA, Detroit and TB along with the rangers. It's going to be fun and competitive.

Terry (Rogers)

How loyal is jerry to tony romo being "the guy"

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

very after 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions

Karl (Richardson)

JJT - so true...It's just nice to have an intelligent discussion about the Cowboys with someone who isn't a generic Cowboys fan (i.e. "Romo sucks! Sign Manning!")love you on the Ticket with Norm.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

thanks, but you're going to have to listen to ESPN 103.3 to hear me these days. Co-hosting with Nate Thursday and Friday...lol

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

I'm sure if the Boys traded down where they could have drafted Castonzo or Solder and gotten more picks it would have helped them become a better team.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:57 PM)

That's my point. Neither of those dudes is as good as Smith. Take the best player and it always works out. You start cutting corners and you end up with a team of dudes who fit that profile

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Should Gooddell step in and say "Jerry, for the sake of the league and America's team, I'm ordering you to get tested for Alzheimer's and appointing Bill Polian interim GM for this team....don't try to argue."

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

no. that's silly.

Brandon (Fort Worth)

Is there a decent option out there for safety, either free agent or draft? Or will Abe Elam electrify us with his one or 2 tackles per game next season?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

sure, but don't ask me who it is. Busy with basketball and the Rangers. Don't get into the draft until after FA

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:00 PM)

it's time for me to go watch Safe House with Denzell. Should be great. I'll holla at y'all next week. If u have questions, you can fire them off to me on Twitter at @JJT_ESPNDallas and i'll hit u back. Remember, it's OK for intelligent people to disagree. Peace.
