Chat with Nick Friedell

Nick Friedell
  (2:07 PM)

What's going on everybody? Let's get this chat rolling ...

Derek (Country Club Hills)

Do you think Thibs serious personality may have possibly turned off some potential superstars from coming to chicago through a trade? a la dwight howard

Nick Friedell
  (2:09 PM)

No. I think Thibs has built up a lot of credibility throughout the league over the past 20 years. A lot of All-Stars were actually looking forward to playing for him.

Neil (Bolingbrook)

Is there any real concern about Deng after getting benched after that fall?

Nick Friedell
  (2:10 PM)

Yes, I think there is a little because it raises the possibility that it could happen again down the line.

Derrick Rose (Deerfield)

Do I have a shot at back to back season MVP titles this year? Or are James and Durant stealing the show?

Nick Friedell
  (2:11 PM)

Rose isn't going to win another MVP this year. He even admitted that during Friday's media session. He think Durant is the favorite right now.

Marquis Rodgers (Aurora)

Nick love your work. My question is how do you think the other superstars in the league take to Derrick Rose not being as open as say a Dwight, or Lebron. Do you think they would take this into consideration when looking at Chicago as a potential landing spot?

Nick Friedell
  (2:13 PM)

Marquis, interesting question. I think that players around the league have a lot of respect for Derrick. They love the way he plays. Sure, they wish he was a little more open personailty-wise, but they know if they want to win he's a good guy to have on their side.

Carl (Kingman, AZ)

Does Rose's reticence to dance at the ASG paint him in a bad light, or are all these people saying he needs to have more fun crazy? I mean he obviously has the talent to become one of the G.O.A.T., so why does he need to "have fun" like LeBron and his mates.Should we want that from Derrick, or be happy with his killer instinct and drive to improve?

Nick Friedell
  (2:15 PM)

I don't understand how anyone could be angry at Rose. This is who he is. He doesn't like to dance during games. He's very serious. He badly wants to win. He knows an All-Star Game really doesn't mean much.

Ike (Chicago)

With the trade deadline looming closer and closer will the Bulls make a move?and if so whats the best move out there for them.

Nick Friedell
  (2:17 PM)

The Bulls may make a move, but it will be small. Like adding another big guy. The only major deal they would pull off is for Dwight Howard. And he has shown no indication that he would want to come here.

Pavan (Atlanta)

How is Hamilton coming along? Should we expect to see him on the court soon?

Nick Friedell
  (2:18 PM)

The Bulls seem optimistic that Hamilton may return this week, maybe as soon as tomorrow. They are very concerned about the end of the year, though. Nobody is quite sure how his body will hold up.

Logan (Chicago)

Nick, Why was Drose not in the game during the 4th quarter. That frustrating bc its a great opportunity to gain experience with NBA's best when the game's on the line. Why didn't Thibs put him in?....He's the MVP!

Nick Friedell
  (2:19 PM)

Because Thibs wanted to rest him. Simple as that.

John (Chicago)

Why are all these sports analysts acting as if the Bulls have no chance against the Heat? We are coming off a year where we had the best record in the NBA and have had the best record for most of the season. With Rip back and everyone healthy there is a legitimate arguement to say that we have the most depth in the NBA, yet aren't even considered to beat the Heat.

Nick Friedell
  (2:22 PM)

I think a lot of people believe the Bulls have a chance to beat the Heat. The issue is that the Heat have really improved this season and their bench is almost as good as the Bulls' bench is. Even more than that, the Bulls still only have one superstar who can take over games (in Rose), not two like the Heat do, in James and Wade.

Brian (Woodridge)

Nick, do the Bulls get to 50 wins in the regular season?

Nick Friedell
  (2:22 PM)

I said before the season they would get to 49. I'm sticking to that.

Doug (Chicago)

Nick....did you get yourself some Steak 'n' Shake today?

Nick Friedell
  (2:23 PM)

Already had it twice over the weekend. I'm good right now.

Zac (Sterling, IL)

Nick, just heard you on Waddle and Silvy hope you didnt party to much. After watching the pathetic All-Star game if you were in charge of the festivities what would you change? I think i would like to see the top two candidates in the MVP race be captains to choose the teams..

Nick Friedell
  (2:26 PM)

It's all about the money. Pay the winner of the Dunk Contest $5 million and make him donate half to charity. You should be able to get a few more superstar entries that way.

Justin (Chicago, IL)

I'm at work and someone who sits within hearing distance of me just said the following: "I think Rose is the guy the Bulls should trade...they will get way more for him than anyone else". This person is my boss. I am in utter-shock that that would enter anyones mind...Can you give me a good reason to not quit my job right now?

Nick Friedell
  (2:27 PM)

Don't quit because jobs are hard to come by these days. But your boss is an idiot.

Brad (Toronto)

Nick do you really think superstars would change the dunk contest that much? It would be the same dunks, just bigger names doing them..

Nick Friedell
  (2:30 PM)

It would generate a lot more interest. A lot more people would want to watch. It would force the creativity level up, too.

Adam (Omaha)

Nick, if you were the GM of the Bulls, what exactly would you be willing to give up to get Howard in a Bulls jersey?

Nick Friedell
  (2:31 PM)

Anyone not named Derrick Rose.

Omer Asik (Chicago, IL)

Am I ever going to start in the NBA?

Nick Friedell
  (2:33 PM)

Yep, but it won't be in Chicago. You'll have to go somewhere else to do that.

BS (Chicago)

Right now the Bulls' best post-up player is... Taj. This concerns me. Greatly.

Nick Friedell
  (2:34 PM)

You and Thibs both my man.

cj (chi-city)

who is the bulls big man coach? I wanna throw some props to him for the work done with noah

Nick Friedell
  (2:35 PM)

That would be Ed Pinckney.

Josh (Madison WI)

Nick, Given Thibs tendency to play the bench much less in the playoffs, what impact do you see the Taj/Omer tandem having in the postseason?

Nick Friedell
  (2:38 PM)

Taj and Omer are going to see a lot of minutes in the playoffs ... especially if the Bulls have a lead in the fourth quarter.

Pete (Chicago)

It seems that D-Rose is not having fun during the All-Star Game? Is this your perception as well?

Nick Friedell
  (2:41 PM)

I don't think he likes pick up games in general. He likes the spotlighty that comes with the All-Star Game, but I don't think he enjoys actually playing in the game.

Nick (Syracuse)

Did adidas make a mistake giving Rose a 14-year deal? Come years 12-14, he'll be on his way down.

Nick Friedell
  (2:43 PM)

adidas views Rose as a partner who could have the ability to have a legacy impact on their brand -- a la Michael Jordan with Nike. I don't think they are worried about the length of the deal.

Gabe (Jersey)

@ Nick (Syracuse): Jordan is STILL selling plenty of shoes

Nick Friedell
  (2:43 PM)

Exactly.

Jim (CA)

As a fan of Bulls basketball I vote Rose into the all star game so he can represent our team amongst the best and also showcase his talents to the entire league. Shouldn't I be disappointed with his effort last nite?

Nick Friedell
  (2:44 PM)

Why? The bigger payoff for Bulls' fans is a championship, right?

nirav (skokie)

hows dengs wrist after his fall?

Nick Friedell
  (2:45 PM)

He says he's fine. That usually means it's really sore.

anthony (chicago)

How do u think the bulls chemistry on the floor will be affected when rip hamilton comes back since he has only played 11 games this year?

Nick Friedell
  (2:46 PM)

I don't think it will change much. The players really like playing with Rip. He should be able to fit in again with much problem.

Nate (Chicago)

Nick, any word on how is Watson doing?

Nick Friedell
  (2:50 PM)

We'll find out soon at practice, but Thibs seemed confident that C.J. would be ready to go after the break.

Nick Friedell
  (2:51 PM)

All right everybody, I am out of here. Time to go to the Berto. Talk to you on Friday from Cleveland.
