Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
How well do you expect the Lions to be next season? Super bowl contender?
Can't quite put them at that level yet, as they need too many defensive upgrades. Let's see how they fare in FA & the Draft and then re-assess.
KC, should a team like the pats offer mike wallace a contract and if the steelers dont match give up one of their low 1st rd picks
Mike Wallace could be the Patriots new Randy Moss. In fact, with his ability to dominate on short passes as well as vertical ones, Wallace could be Randy Moss 2.0 for NE.
Bigger need for the GIANTS, OL, WR, RB, or TE?
Would have to say OL. Will say that if they can land Coby Fleener in the draft, TE would not be an issue for them.
Denver broncos record in 2012?
KC, I don't understand why the Vikings feel they need to trade down for more picks? If you can't have a great draft with 10 picks plus two possible fourth round compensatory picks I don't know what to say. As long as they draft Kalil it will be a step in the right direction.
Volume is never a bad thing in a draft, but they cannot give up the chance to draft Kalil. He's a difference maker.
If you were a mystery team in on RG3, what city would you be located in?
The guess here is Philadelphia. Remember how the Eagles came out of nowhere to win the Asomugha sweepstakes.
Does Randy Moss 2.0 include what happened at the end?
No, this version does not have that buggy blue screen of death at the end. This one has a Super Bowl victory dance.
Am I crazy for thinking that RG3 is the better prospect than Luck? I like Luck but RG3 has that it factor and I just dont see the arm strength from Luck even though all the so-called draft gurus keep saying he is the next Elway, which I find ridiculous since just last year these draft guru's were killing Cam Newton.
Well, I was one of the ones bashing Newton last year, so not sure how that factors into this argument. Having said that, you are not crazy for saying RG3 could be a better prospect than Luck. It really depends on what type of system the team wants to run.
If I were the Packers, I would franchise Flynn and trade him to Miami for their 1st round pick. But why won't they do that?
Who's to say they won't? And it might be more dependent on if Miami would give up a No. 1 pick for Flynn.
Any chance Irsay falls in love with RG3 and passes on luck?
Wouldn't that just be hilarious. All of these teams wanting to move up to trade for RG3 and the Colts end up picking him. Having said that, why aren't the Colts considering getting into this RG3 trade derby? If teams are willing to give up a king's ransom for the No. 2 pick, why not make the No. 1 pick available for that same type of price?
Manningham worth it for the GMEN or can they afford to let him walk?
He is that good, but in NY Manningham would be a No. 3 WR. They can't afford to pay a No. 3 WR No. 2 WR money.
Week 1 the starting QB for Miami realistically should be ____ and will be _____? I know you love Griffin but not sure if that will be realistic. Also to James no way Miami trades a number 1 for Flynn.
Matt Moore, Matt Moore. The Fins likely won't win the RG3 derby and Flynn is not worth the kind of contract he is likely to command on the open market.
Still if you are trading up for RG3 and Luck ends up as your consolation prize, you did pretty well.
Would you give up the #9 pick for Flynn?
Nope. I'd hope Tannehill makes it down to that spot.
It would be really smart for Irsay to wait for the 2nd pick to be traded, and then allow someone else to top the bid with an even crazier offer.
Would it be more wise for the Bears to sign a guy like Mathis or draft a prospect like Mercilus with their 19th pick?
I'm not entirely sold on Mercilus but he is the younger player and thus the better choice.
Ben's done it, Peyton's done it, Brady's done...if the Gmen are cash strapped, why isn't there any talk of Eli restructuring his contract to give the Gmen more flexibility?
Good question. It's almost certainly not a case of Eli being stubborn about it.
Are you thinking Tannehil goes top 10? And is that a stretch?
He's probably not a day 1 starter type, but Tannehill showed all kinds of upside potential the past year and a half. Top 10 isn't a stretch.
Who is the big name WR the Bears will get next year?
Cutler to Vincent Jackson sounds like a great combination.
How much are the Bucs going to be overvaluing FA's being that they have $50M in cap room? Seems like an ideal position but you have to be very careful
The gut instinct says the Bucs will go for depth in FA rather than trying for splash signings.
So Miami should hope to go into next season with Moore/Tannenhill? Do you not see them going for Manning or do you not see Manning becoming healthy and available?
A Moore/Tannehill combination would be better for Miami than Peyton Manning.
How is the best WR in the world not getting more attention? Actaully shouldn't our very own Brown be the new #1 WR in the world since his metrics were even better than Wallace. Look I think Wallace is a pro bowl caliber player, but if Megatron our Fitz were given the RFA tag you really think teams would be wary of only surrendering 1 1st rd pick?
Brown is a great WR but his value is more at the medium depth level than at the stretch vertical depth levels. Pittsburgh would still need a vertical threat if a team signs Wallace away from them.
Am I wrong, or does it seem the top guys in the draft outside the QB position are a little weak this year? Throw out Kalil and Richardson while I'm at it, but I'd definately take the first picks from last years draft at every other postion. Blackmon isn't close to Green or even Jones. Peterson over Claiborne. Am I crazy?
You aren't crazy. Claiborne and Blackmon are not up to the caliber of player of Green/Jones/Peterson & Richardson.
What do you make of Kendal Wright's slow (botched) forty time at the combine? Where do you rank him with other receiving prospects?
The issue with Wright is that no matter how fast he is, he hasn't been able to consistently translate that speed into dominant on-field performance.
Are people overvaluing RGIII just a little? Speed is great but it rarely translates, I mean he didn't even throw at the combine...
Might have thought the same thing until I broke down RG3's tapes. He's as good as advertised.
How would Arizona's offense look with Peyton Manning throwing to Larry Fitzgerald and possibly Randy Moss?
It would look great if it were the year 2004.
I know Jennings didn't give up a single passing TD all year, but he seemed to give up big chunks of yardage which led to TDs. Should the Bears resign him and/or draft a CB?
For some reason Chicago wasn't sold on Jennings. If that's the case, they should let him go and sign another CB, as it doesn't make sense to keep someone around that the team doesn't believe in.
Shouldn't there be a new #1 WR in the NFL? Last chat you said Antonio Brown actually had better metrics than Wallace. Come on my man, KC but nobody in the NFL world thinks Wallace is the best NFL in the world.
And yet Wallace may very well be on the verge of being one of the only players that multiple teams would be willing to give up a No. 1 draft pick and a huge contract to sign. Yep, Wallace is just a middle of the road WR.
Any chance you see the Phins calling the Giants and making a trade for Osi maybe a 2nd rounder they need a 4-3 DE.
Not sure Miami should be investing that high of a draft pick on an aging and oft-injured player.
If Seattle makes a major play for RG3, how quickly do they become threats in the NFC?
If Seattle landed RG3, they would immediately become one of the top 10 teams in the NFL.
Hi KC, Where do you see Peyton Manning actually going ? My 2 bets are Kansas City, Seattle and my sleeper team is Baltimore believe it or not.
Agree on the Chiefs and Seahawks being possible destinations. Baltimore is sold on Flacco so can't see that move happening.
Hi KC! You can't use the height argument. Why won't Russell Wilson be a great QB in the NFL?
Inconsistency issues at key moments of the game. If Wilson is more consistent at those times last year, Wisconsin might have played for a national championship.
KC stop it. If other receivers were out there, teams would give up huge contracts and #1's for them too. Megatron, Larry Fitzg? why are you doing this to yourself? We're trying to help you.
Did you not just make my point? Wallace is every bit as good as the most dominant wideouts in the NFL.
Eagles franchised DeSean Jackson. How do you think he'll react to that?
I see sulking in his future.
Why not include the Bears in the conversation for Wallace? He is certainly worth the 19th pick right?
He's absolutely worth that level of pick. The Bears would probably rate just as high in Wallace factor points as the four teams listed in today's TFS ESPN Insider article.
If the Redskins lost out on the RG3 sweeptakes, and decide to trade down, would the Bears decide to swap with the Redskins? From there they have a shot at Morris Claiborne or Quinton Coples.
Trading for Coples probably makes more sense than trading for Claiborne, as Claiborne's 2011 coverage metrics were so-so.
Why should the Giants be able to find a taker for Osi? John Abraham had suitors despite the fact that he had a lengthy injury history and wasn't the game-changer that Osi is? Granted, he was 28 at the time, but still... Abraham netted the Jets a 1st round pick.
Some team may want to take a chance on Osi, but that chance should be taken by a club that has immediate Super Bowl aspirations.
First off wanted to wish Kris Dielman good luck with his retirment and hope his health stays good after retireing due to the concussion. SD has so many holes on it's roster now. If you are GM how do you fix the Chargers, and how long till they can compete for a Super Bowl? Thanks!
Keeping Vincent Jackson around would be a big plus. Getting improvements on the O line would help. SD isn't that far from being in playoff contention.
by the way, thanks for answering questions without being combative.
Combative? Heck, I'm never combative - well, except for those few times I started to go all-Kinison.
And, as long-time chatters know, the preference for posting is to go with the humorous posts first.
What's more valuable: Wallace, or Vincent Jackson and the 30th pick?
Great question. Would probably say Wallace, but it's darn close.
Could Michael Griffin come to Chicago?
Can't see that move happening, but wouldn't it be interesting if they were the surprise team?
I actually agree with you on Wallace being one of the top receivers in the game, he's been underrated for a long time by most people. But I have a hard time believing that any team would risk Fitz or Megatron the way the Steelers are planning to risk Wallace with the first round tender. That said, Wallace in NE, frightening for the rest of the world?
If NE lands Wallace, mark it down - they would immediately become the favorites to win the Super Bowl next year.
Humor? Are we funny? What are we clowns?
I see a Joe Pesci reference in the near future.
Why didn't the Steelers tag Wallace?
Will the Patriots be active in rebuilding their secondary in FA? Or will they turn to the draft?
Probably more via FA, as there are more than enough quality depth players available via that personnel route.
What's funny to me is that Jets head coach and his predicitons!
Yeah, it kind of stinks that Rex Ryan is scaling his predictions back. One of the most entertaining aspects of each offseason goes by the wayside.
pardon me, but arent the Pats already the favorite to win?
Neil, they may be favorites in a general sense but if they land Wallace, they will be far ahead of any other team.
True or false- Cutler will be an elite QB with #1 WR and better than average LT?
My Cutler take is the same as it has been since his first day in Chicago. He will make passes that remind Bears fans of Rex Grossman but he can also mimic Rex by taking them to the Super Bowl with the right talent around him.
I'm predicting 16 games for sure next year. We'll play 'em all.
That's more like it!
Any thoughts on the Romo over Luck or RGIII talk going around?
Romo is a top 10 QB but he's faltered in his attempts to become a consistent top 5 QB. Luck & RG3 have that kind of ceiling, so I'd take them over Romo long-term.
KC, do you think the Falcons regret giving Ray Edwards that big contract? Considering his backup in Minnesota Brian Robison had a better season than him.
He certainly didn't seem to play up to that contract.
Come on KC, I've never had a fair shot here in Chitown. Get me some real talent and I'm Eli Manning part deux!
Cutler = Eli? Not sure about that.
i unfortunately feel like you're valuing Wallace as a fantasy player (based purely on numbers) as opposed to impact on the field (occupying extra defenders, making tough catches in the red zone, coming across the middle of the field, making catches when he is covered, etc.) do your numbers account for anything other than catches made? i also think you have to consider the type of patterns a guy runs, i.e. he swings for the fences a lot.
Wallace has posted out of this world numbers on short passes in multiple seasons. And does anyone doubt that even if Wallace had some shortcomings in his route running (something I don't concur with), that the Patriots would find ways around that?
Let's say the Patriots land Wallace. Who would you look to take away from them if gameplanning against them? Do you make sure Wallace is doubled and let them dink and dunk with Welker/Gronk, or do you let them take their shots at Wallace to get them into 2nd & 3rd and long situations?
Studebaker, Gronk had only one bomb pass thrown to him prior to the Super Bowl. Wallace is an elite at that depth level and that would be priority one for any defensive game plan.
do you think drew gets his contract done before the tag deadline
Maybe not, but there is no way NO will part ways with him. Zero chance of that happening.
The only way the Jacksonville Jaggyuars stay is if they trade Denver for Tim Tebow so all the UF faithful flock will sell out the stadium , do you see LA supporting two teams in the same stadium. Chargers and Jaggyuars. I know Oakland and San Francisco will be doing what Giants and Jets do, makes sense actually. Your thoughts. Thanks KC
The Jaguars can build a Florida fanbase if they will play a more exciting brand of football (with or without Tebow). They are in a highly competitive football state (UF, FSU, Fins, Canes, Bucs) and were never going to fully connect with a fanbase while playing a Del Rio brand of football.
What do you think the Dallas Cowboys need to acquire in the draft?
OL and secondary help should be what the Cowboys go after both in the draft and in FA.
KC, Do you think the Bills should draft Luke Kuechly with the 10th overall pick? He seems like one of those rare talents that we see every once in a while! Cant Miss Prospect?
Really like Kuechly's tackling ability but doesn't Buffalo need something more than a good tackler? Seems like they get players of that caliber often enough.
I see that the stadium finally came through in Minnesota. Really glad about that. Could not imagine such a great fan base being devoid of a team.
One purple and gold team in LA is enough, right?
If the Bills lose Stevie Johnson? Do you think Marques Colston would be a nice fit for the Bills offense? Nix loves big WRs!
That's a more than even trade-off.
I think a play-making TE in the 1st or 2nd round would be a nice replacement in the slot for Manningham...Thoughts?
Coby Fleener. Get him as a flex TE. He creates a different set of matchup issues than Manningham.
Any word yet on if your Editor will let you do an article on this years best pass rushers in the 2012 NFL draft?
Still finalizing draft material (concentrating on FA at the moment). Will keep you updated on this as things progress.
Do you think drafting Michael Floyd for the Bears would be a good choice?
He'd give Chicago some physicality at the WR spot. It would be a solid move.
If the Pats don't land Wallace, would they make a play at Floyd or Sanu with one of their earlier draft picks?
Wallace is a gamebreaker in a way that those two aren't. If NE doesn't land Wallace, they might not go WR in the 1st round.
Looking forward to the final installment: Top Kickers & Punters of the 2012 Draft.
I can almost guarantee that won't be a TFS article. Heck, I don't even cover kickers in my fantasy football draft guide.
Best route for Skins at QB: manning, flynn, RG3 or Tannehill? Who do you think they'll end up with?
RG3 is the best route and I think Washington will find a way to move up and acquire him (assuming the Colts don't mix things up with a trade).
What does your scouting eye tell you about Nick Perry and Vinny Curry? I think these guys are the 2 best pass rushers in this years draft! What do you think?
Haven't had a chance to review Curry, but did review Perry while breaking down the USC tape (some metrics of which can be found in the Oregon-USC TFS ESPN Insider article from last week). Perry's got ample physical skills but he needs to develop more pass rush skills. Just didn't see a wide enough set of pass rush moves out of him.
Mike Wallace is definitley worth a 1st rd pick! I think Pittsburgh may lose him. Somebody will over pay for him even though he is worth a lot of $$$$$$?
It won't be overpaying. Wallace is a Charles Haley/Deion Sanders type of player who can be the last piece in a Super Bowl puzzle for the right team.
KC, how about this...Iggles sign Wallace, give up their 1st round pick and trade D. Jackson? What do you think about this?
More intrigue! Only issue is finding a team interested in trading for Jackson.
How long before Wallace would start at CB for the Pats?
Hey, the Patriots aren't like the Georgia Bulldogs. They know better than to move their best WR to play CB. They only move slot WRs to do that, although they could use Wallace as a defender in Hail Mary situations like they did with Moss.
What was the last draft that had this much suspense about teams moving up into the top 3 to get their franchise QB? The Eli draft?
Sounds about right. And look how that draft turned out for those teams.
Um, Vikings could use a WR. They MIGHT be willing to take on D-Jax.
How would Colston fit in Tice's vertical power running offense?
Colston has posted elite vertical numbers in the past. Some of that probably has to do with playing in the NO offense but one would have to think that his numbers could still be elite in another offense.
Does Washington have enough talent on their roster for a all-in trade for RG3 to make sense? They certainly won't get much younger during this draft, and if they stink for 2 years the current management will be out by the time RG3 blossoms.
If they do all-in for RG3 and manage the FA process carefully, they should still be able to stockpile a solid team around him.
Is there any possibility in your mind of Brees reaching the FA market?
Absolutely zero. Well, it's been a great chat but it's time to hit the road. Quick note - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. Hope to see you all here next week!
