Chat with Jean-Jacques Taylor

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:07 PM)

What's up? I'm giving up what little time I had to play MLB The Show, which was released last night at midnight, to hang with you guys and answer questions about the DFW sports scene. iPad is rocking J. Cole, Wale, Musiq, Bruno Mars and The script. Let's roll

PL (SC)

Mr. JJT, with the saints tagging D. Brees, do you think the boyz will go hard after nicks? We need to go after free agents on the o-line!!!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:09 PM)

I don't think so. The Cowboys need a center more than a guard. But if they decide to get a guard they will probably be able to get Stanford's DeCastro at 14. Nicks wants to PAID. I don't know if a guard is worth as much money as he wants and should probably get. Of the OL positions, G is way behind both tackle spots and center

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Do you think that the Texas Rangers will play in their third Straight World Series the way they Look on Paper?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:13 PM)

Nope. That's an extremely difficult feat and the AL is absolutely loaded this year with NY, Bos, TB, Det, LAA and the Rangers. Plus, there's always one surprise team. The Rangers will make the playoffs and be in the hunt, but I don't expect them to make their 3rd straight WS appearance. They could play well in the playoffs and still lose because the AL is so good

raul (rio grande city)

JJT, now that Spencer got the tag...do you think that Dallas will sign him to a long term deal and try do lower his base salary? is that what they intend to do or are they just covering their behind just in case they draft someone and he does not pan out?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:14 PM)

This is only the 3rd time the Cowboys have used the franchise tag. Flozell Adams and Ken Hamlin, the previous tagees - is that a word? - each worked out long-term deals with the team. When you hear Jason Garrett say Anthony Spencer is one of the best OLB at his position it sounds like he wants to give him a long-term deal. Hope not.

Brad (Columbia MD)

Is there any reason to think that Stephen Jones will take a different approach to running the team than his father? Meaning will he realize the obvious and hire a true GM and run the team like a owner should, or are Cowboys fans in for the same hands on, delusional, Owner/GM that we have been dealing with for 20+ years. Al Davis son seemed to realize that his fathers way of doing things wasn't the best, will Stephen?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:16 PM)

I think Stephen would be more rational and make fewer impulsive decisions. He does a good job of working the cap, and he'll be fine whenever he takes a bigger leadership role

kRISTOPHER (BAYONNE)

DOES SPENCER COMING BACK FOR ANOTHER YEAR MEAN THEY WONT ADDRESS PASS RUSH IN THE 1ST ROUND

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:18 PM)

I hope not, since he has not distinguished himself as a pass-rusher. Jerry has talked openly about Rob Ryan using Spencer in a different role that allows him to pressure the quarterback more frequently. We'll see. I don;t know why a dude in his 6th season would show u some pass-rush skill he hasn't displayed thus far.

Bernie (longhorn)

Do you think the cowboys need a bounty so this defense could play tougher? joking

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:21 PM)

anything would help based on how the season ended....lol

Dre (NYC)

Would you consider pierre garcon a upgrade from laurant robinson?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:23 PM)

Not really. He caught 70 passes for 947 and 6 TDs. He's about the same as robinson. I don't have any issue with Robinson other than I wouldn't want Dallas to overpay a No.2 WR, when it has so many other needs. Yes, he's good, but you can find WRs every single year.

Jeremy (Abilene)

Speaking of the Show, I'm a big fan of the franchise. Worth the $60? Favorite improvement? Worst change?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

dude, it just came out at midnight...lol..I haven't had time to dabble with it that much. I'll have a better review after I mess around with it for a few days. I played 4 innings this AM, then it was time to take the kids to school, do some work, hit the gym, run a couple errands and start the chat

Tim (Dallas)

Speaking of bounty, what type of punishment do you see Goodell handing down?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:27 PM)

The coverup is always worse than the crime. The Saints reportedly lied about the bounty program and that's why I think they're really gonna get popped. I'm guess Williams will get a season and fine . Payton might get 3-4 games. Loomis will pays huge fine. Goodell is going to make a statement. Vilma who apparently had a 10,000 bounty on Favre in a playoff game might get 6 games and a fine.

Jonathan (Hot Springs (Denton))

Whats your pick tonight UNT vs WKU

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:27 PM)

Let's go with Johnny Jones and Tony Mitchell

Rashad (Miami)

Paying Spencer 9m seems utterly ridiculous. I'd rather plug in Butler or any JAG than to overpay a guy. Wouldn't that cap space be better served on Nicks or someone with a better resume...and what are the chances the rescind the tag?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:30 PM)

yes sir, but Jason Garrett thinks AnthonySpencer is one of the best outside linebackers in the NFL. Seriously. No idea how he came to that conclusion, but that's what he said last night. I watched the games. Did you see him making a bunch of plays during the December-January free fall. Don't blame Spencer, he's not offering himself a contract.

Taurean (sc)

I used to think you were just down right cruel about the Cowboys. But, you were just telling the truth. Keep doing what you do.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:30 PM)

Sometimes, my friend, it hurts

Taurean (sc)

what's up JJT anyways I just wanted to ask what in the world is Jerry Jones thinking why do he keep rewarding mediorcrity with huge contracts. Does he even care about winning anymore or Jones is more concerned about paying the mortgage on Cowboys stadium. Atleast it looks like he's grooming Stephen to take over the reins.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:32 PM)

The biggest problem for the Cowboys is when they put themselves in a position where they have to sign a guy like Sensabuagh or Spencer because they don't have a replacement because of poor drafting. They're signing guys because they don't know how to replace them -= not because they've distinguished themselves. This organization, right now, is rudderless.

Brad (Toronto)

Hi JJT, the Mavs seem to play well against OKC, the top team in the west. Could you see them still being the 2nd best team in the western conference when healthy?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:34 PM)

The playoffs will be all about matchups. If they hook up with Memphis, they might get swept because the Grizzlies are so good inside. They could certainly beat OKC, though I don;t know if they will. That said, the Mavs have to execute better late in the game. They're 6-8 in games decided by 5 points

Gino (Lupkin)

Why is dallas even exploring bring back keith brooking? isnt there younger and cheaper back ups out there

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

no idea. Actually, they want him to be a mentor to Bruce Carter and Sean Lee. This is lunacy. Brooking is a great guy and he has been a good player, but he's no longer effective on first and second down and he can't play ST or the nickel. What role does he have on the team?

meech (akron ohio)

with the roster looking like it does now with a old half man half amazing in vince carter and out of his mind lamar odom do you think they could compete with the likes of the heat in the finals this year with lebron and mario chalmers have career years

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:38 PM)

not right now, but they don't have to compete right now. The Mavs haven't had their whole team together that often this season. Until they do, it's going to be a struggle. Miami has been playing great, but the playoffs are a different beast

carlos (austin tx)

do you think the mavs miss chandler or caron butler more?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

They probably miss Butler because they;'re having such difficulty scoring the ball this season, and he would've given them offense at that spot. Who would've thought that a few months ago?

Marc (Irving)

Hi JJT, Lots of talk about Brandon Carr. Do you think the Cowboys will sign him? I sure hope so

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:40 PM)

They like him and they'll be aggressive. He's big at 6-1 and 207 and he gets his hands on a lot of passes with 40 PBU the past two seasons

Big Rog Dog (Sin City)

Do you think the Corners that would be taken in the 1st round have too much baggage to be considered with the 14th pick.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:41 PM)

No way Dallas will take jenkins. He's not the kind if guy Garrett wants. Garrett worked under Saban. If Nick vouches for Kirkpatrick then he'll take him, if he fits their board

raul (rio grande city)

Do you know what ever happened to this guy Borbon for the Rangers? wasnt he supposed to be the next great young star?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:42 PM)

Like a lot of baseball prospects, he hasn't figured out how to translate his skill set to the big leagues. He makes too many mental mistakes and he has struggled at the plate. If he doesn't make the club this spring, it wouldn't surprise me to see him traded

Brad (Toronto)

So JJT, apparently Lamar Odom wants to go back to LA, which could also be the Clippers. But I could see him wanting to be back with the Lakers, what do you think?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:43 PM)

Who knows? Too much rumor and innuendo for me. No on knows the truth. Guess we'll have to watch his reality show to see for sure

Kris (DFW)

What trade would the Rangers make if they didnt have to trade due to injury

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:45 PM)

they're pretty loaded with lineup depth and a rotation full of potential. The BP is in good shape, though they could use a situational lefty. There's a reason why they've won the AL the past two years

TTeryll (SSouth Carolina)

I just wanna know which corner do you think would fit the cowboys best Finnegan or Brandon Carr

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:45 PM)

carr. He's a bump and run dude

Bobby (Tennessee)

In your opinion what's the biggest free agent move, the cowboys will make?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:45 PM)

sign brandon Carr

Alex (Lubbock)

JJT, the stars went from 10th place to 3rd place in the western conference in a matter of weeks. How do you explain this sudden surge of success?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

Lehtonen has been superb and the Stars are getting terrific play from the No.1 line of Ribeiro, Ryder and Eriksson. The defense has been excellent and sheldon Souray has given the entire team a boost since his return from injury

Antonio (Dallas)

Do you think the cowboys would take that Memphis DT if available in the draft and move Jay Ratliff to DE?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:49 PM)

I'm not sold on that dude. If he was such a good athlete and a physical presence then how come it didn't translate to production in Conference USA, which is hardly a power football conference.

chris (kentucky)

What's the latest on Brendan Morrow's return?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

hopefully next week, but with a back everything is iffy

Michael (College Station)

Has Yu Darvish said much about the stress or pressure of making his first pitching debut tomorrow?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

it's a spring training game. I hope he doesn't feel any pressure. If so, then he won't make it during the season

jeff (odessa)

JJT...What do "yu" expect from Darvish this year? Im thinking 10-12 wins, 3.20 ERA...

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:52 PM)

I'd say 14-10 with a 3.75 ERA and 175K in 188 innings

Mark E Mark (Suffern NY)

Kirkpatrick, Barron, Hightower and Upshaw are there at 14. Who do you pick?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:52 PM)

probably upshaw

Marc (Irving)

JJT, Love March Madness.Who's your final 4?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

hadn't thought much about it since the brackets aren't out yet, but I'd say Kentucky, Carolina, Missouri and Murray State

fred (florida)

is it more of a risk taking a corner or a pass rusher in the 1st round because we see alot of bust at both positions?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

it's about the same, i think. You just try to draft the best player but you want a guy with intangibles such as work-ethic, intelligence, coach ability, etc.

NYC_Cowsheep (NYC)

What's sad about paying Spencer $9m is that it shows the incompetence of the GM role on the Cowboys. I feel worse for Romo because he'll still get tagged for not winning "the big games" when Jerry has wasted his prime years with a mediocre Defense.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:56 PM)

there's some truth in that

gerald (chi-town)

Does it throw up red flags that the texans didnt tag supposedly there best player on defense (mario)? and should dallas explore signing him?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:57 PM)

yes. It's always curious when a team let's it's best guy leave whether it's Williams or Julius Peppers a couple of years ago, when Carolina let him walk

JOE M (SACRAMENTO,CA)

What are the possibilities of the cowboys going OLine Oline with their first two picks picking up OG Decastro and C Konz if he is there in the second round?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

i would doubt it, but it wouldn't bother me

Mark E Mark (Suffern NY)

Would it be worth the gamble for Jerry to break into another teams facility and steal their draft board?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:58 PM)

most definitely. He should let JJ jr take the risk

Mark E Mark (Suffern NY)

Were you as surprised as i was that Jerry Jones didnt get an interview for the GM jobs that were available after the season ended? I was shocked with his track record and all!!! lol

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:59 PM)

you're wrong for that...lol

Michael (College Station)

Why are the stars playing so well when they have so many people out with injuries?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:00 PM)

their goalie has been great, they're playing with confidence and they've found out how to win with the pieces they have. That's why they keep talking about playing a simple game and being pesky

David (Dallas)

Do other players respect Dirk? Also, is there a strong desire for players to play with him?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:01 PM)

yes. But guys almost always follow the cash. No one in his prime is taking less money to play with Dirk. His best friend, Steve Nash, left for more money in Phoenix

Kyle (Denver)

Could Cowboys go after an OLB upgrade in free agency then release Spencer from his franchise tag after signing his replacement? That would seem low but it's a business right?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:01 PM)

until he signs it, it's not official. The Cowboys could rescind it, if he hadn't signed it and they drafted a LB .

Mark E Mark (Suffern NY)

Do you think (like i do) that there are done free agency deals already all over the league even before free agency starts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:02 PM)

Sure, it's the nature of the beast

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (2:03 PM)

Thanks for your time this afternoon, but I gotta finish packing because I'm off to spring training for 10 days on Thursday. If you have more questions hit me Twitter @JJT_ESPNDallas and I'll answer whatever you have. Be Blessed. Peace.
