Chat with Brett Okamoto

Brett Okamoto
  (1:00 PM)

What's up guys? Thanks as always for joining me for this Wednesday chat. So ... how about that armbar?

Collin (IL)

Doesn't it make sense now to have Anthony Pettis fight the Miller-Diaz winner for the No. 1 contender spot at lightweight?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:03 PM)

Yeah, that's got to be the plan. We don't have an exact date on Frankie Edgar/Ben Henderson rematch, but I'm going to guess it's around July. That's plenty of time for the winner of that May 5 Diaz/Miller fight to fight Pettis. Did you ever think you'd see THREE immediate rematches in a row for a UFC title? I hate to say it and, NO, I'm not against Edgar getting a rematch, but eventually the UFC is going to have to say sorry, and move on. If we have a rematch every time a title fight is close, it's going to get ridiculous.

Frankie (the shore)

who knew whining could get you a rematch? I'm ready to point my way to the victory this time moto

Brett Okamoto
  (1:04 PM)

Well, I'd whine too if I had to give two immediate rematches in my first three title defenses. Still think he should be moving down in weight, but 155 is where he wants to be and it was right of the UFC to not screw him and move on.

Marc (Chicago, IL)

Who's the best guy in MMA without a tattoo? I can't think of anyone at all.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:04 PM)

Such a random, yet thought-provoking question. There has to be an answer to this.

Gerry (San Francisco, CA)

Considering what happened to Brandon Saling, will athletic commissions develop stricter guidelines for fighters?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:07 PM)

This is such a rare occurrence. According to Dana, Zuffa runs background checks on these guys. Not sure how Saling, (for those who don't know, is a convicted sex offender), slipped through. If anything, it was a wakeup call to more thoroughly screen these guys but I don't see commissions getting together and setting stricter rules on this sort of thing.

Matt (Nashville)

When was the last time a decision's been botched like McCall vs. Johnson Friday? Can?t remember too many times the ball?s been dropped like that.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:08 PM)

I honestly can't remember a single time. Actually, it has happened that Buffer has read the wrong scores like, judge by judge, but the result of the fight was the same if I remember correctly. What a horrible time for that to happen -- with a potential sudden death round waiting. Geez. Don't even want to think about it. What a screw up.

Ry (Easton, Maryland)

Does Sonnon have a tattoo?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:09 PM)

I don't believe so. There's a definite candidate. Does Anderson Silva?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:09 PM)

Is it possible the most obvious answer is the correct one?

Collin (IL)

Re: The tattoo question - Demian Maia.

Matt (Nashville)

Forrest & Chael are inkless (I believe) off the top of my head

Sandy (Ft.Lauderdale)

Ok so lets say Silva beats Sonnen and then the next contender (Munoz, Bisping, etc), and Jones beats Evans and Hendo (maybe even Gustafsson). The next fight should be SPIDER vs BONES! It gives Silva a chance to go down as the greatest MMA fighter ever and Bones can clear the division and move to Heavyweight! Thoughts? I just don't see any other challenges for either fighter. Spring or Summer 2013 (fingers crossed)?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:11 PM)

I'm with you 100 percent Sandy! But we'll see. First of all, you never know what can happen. What if Thiago Silva first-round knockouts two or three guys in the meantime? What if Chris Weidman submits three guys? Personally, I want to see the Jones/Silva but if the UFC has viable options in these divisions, there's definitely the chance they'll avoid matching two stars.

Ken (ca.)

Meisha was right, she was overzealous and it cost her. She paid the price for not having a sharper strategy.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:13 PM)

Maybe. What I saw is she was going to lose that fight regardless of what her strategy was. Rousey is legit. She had Meisha in trouble more than once in that first round. I watched the fight with Urijah Faber and he said Rousey would beat Cyborg. I strongly disagreed.

Jody (Waltham)

After watching the Tate/Rousey fight and Davis/Kaufman fight, is it safe to assume that the heads at Zuffa & Strikeforce might start backing them more?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:14 PM)

I guess it depends on what you mean by backing them more? They just made them a main event. They emailed me like every day with quotes and interview opportunities with Tate and Rousey. They definitely pushed the females on this card. The problem is the same problem it's been for a long time. Past about five or six girls, there's no one else. So you can promote them for a fight, but it's difficult to really promote the division because it's relatively non-existent.

Kraw (Work)

What up NINJA? Part of the reason we loved Anik was cuz he loved us and stayed as long as he could, when you leave every chat at 12:59, it rubs me the wrong way about your desire to include fans...

Brett Okamoto
  (1:16 PM)

I appreciate your honesty, so now I'll hit you back with some. Every day I stay until the question queue dries up. I gotta have questions to stay and chat, brotha. Spread the word. MMA chat Wednesday mornings. If I get the questions, I'll stay all day (as long as I'm not on the road and have a fighter to interview).

Vidal (Eburg)

Does the UFC have any referee training academy's?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:17 PM)

Hmmm, I want to say they do ... seems like one time I was watching Herb Dean give a speech at a UFC Expo and he talked about one. Maybe it's more his thing than the UFC's. I'm sure something would probably come up if you googled it.

Ed (Work)

How does frankie get a rematch? I mean I understand he's given rematches but let's be serious, BJ is the greatest Lightweight of all time and Gray's was a draw. Frankie lost and was losing and his corner was still directing him to win "rounds" instead of the fight.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:19 PM)

If he hadn't been forced to fight the two rematches himself, I don't think there's anyway he gets one here. I'm with you Ed, because I scored the fight a fairly convincing 3-1-1, in favor of Henderson. First round draw, third round Frankie, second fourth and fifth for Henderson. But some people scored it FOR Frankie ... which I just did not see. I thought Ben kind of ran away with it in the final rounds. But I guess there's controversy for some people, so clear it up.

Tommy (Denver)

Rumor has it (From Fedor himself) he's coming to UFC. Rumored Cain fight? Let's say he really did come in, would they throw him a huge fight immediately?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:22 PM)

I'm fairly skeptical on Fedor coming to the UFC still, but if he did, yeah he'd get a big name. Personally, I've heard nothing regarding a fight with Cain. How could they be talking about that when he's fighting Mir? If they were to make that fight, it's because the UFC wants to see him get beat up in his first appearance if you ask me.

Adam (NYC)

Hey Brett, Any rumors on when and where UFC 150 will be? Maybe Edgar - Henderson highlights the show? Thanks!

Brett Okamoto
  (1:23 PM)

I've heard a few rumblings about a certain city but nothing concrete. Maybe by next week I'll be able to give you a solid answer.

Marc (Chicago, IL)

Who do you take in the Edgar-Henderson rematch? I think Henderson wins decisively.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:24 PM)

I do too. Watching that first fight live I couldn't help but think over and over again, Ben is just too big. I'm not saying Frankie is too small to fight at lightweight, he held the belt obviously he's not, but I think he's too small to fight Ben.

Ric (Kansas)

With what should be the most exciting division in MMA, the UFC continues to give the fans rematches at 155lb. Is it really that difficult or disrespectful to make Frankie fight ONCE before getting another title shot? What happens if Frankie wins? Do they do a 3rd rematch of Bendo v. Frankie?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:25 PM)

Here's my guess, complete speculation. They told Frankie here's your rematch, if you lose you move down to 145 and fight Jose. Again, complete speculation. Not that that's the only reason they did it, there's interest in the rematch, but I have a suspicion there's that catch in there. If Frankie wins a close fight? It's LSU-Alabama, whoever wins last, wins it all. No way they'd do three in a row.

Jeff (Salt Lake City)

Bendo-Edgar II is set?? Really didn't want to see that fight. Still stick to the idea that Bendo beat Edgar easily. Edgar cried his way into this title fight by saying do what's fair. He had no choice but to have his two immediate rematches after BJ 1 and Grey 2.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:26 PM)

Seems like you guys agreed with me Henderson won the fight fairly controversy-free. Anyone here score it for Frankie?

mike (sf)

who you taking - silva or gustaffson?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:27 PM)

If Thiago is healthy and not completely off due to the long time out of the cage, I think he takes it. But how in the world do we know that?

Vidal (Eburg)

If Rashad loses, who is left to seriously challenge Bones Jones?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:28 PM)

Dan Henderson. I'm all for that fight.

Michael (Philly)

Who does Rampage fight for this last UFC fight (if we are to believe him)? Could Forrest retire both Tito and Rampage from the UFC in back to back fights?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:29 PM)

That's actually a possibility. Do you make that fight or the Shogun fight? By the way, I'm leaning 55% towards believing Rampage is retiring and 45% he's not. My guess is it depends on whether movie offers are coming in or not.

Sean McKenzie (Van Wert, OH)

These paydays for fighters are getting insane. They should go back to PRIDE entrances and make these fighters fight for pride. Rampage saying he is only taking money fights now, is a good example. Start them at small paydays and increase the money with back to back victorties.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:30 PM)

That's what they do ... they start at $6k show money. That's a small payday ... that grows with victories.

Marc T (Phx)

Unusual drought for UFC cards right now. Used to them basically being bi-weekly

Brett Okamoto
  (1:31 PM)

I think we all were. Bellator this weekend on MTV2 if you've got it. Good featherweight fight. I'm DVRing it ... going to be in the car headed to Surprise, AZ to see the Rox in Spring Training :)

Mark Mears (Elkton)

What's next for Mark Hunt? A top 10 guy?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:33 PM)

Good lord, yeah. No disrespect to Mark Hunt but I can't believe that's a serious question in early 2012. Seriously, I have a TON of respect for the guy but you're telling me Hunt is on the verge of deserving a top 10 heavyweight? This division needs more depth.

Chris (Boston)

Which fighter will take the rematch, and why: mccall or johnson?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:34 PM)

Dang, tough question. I honestly don't know. I don't really see either of them coming in and doing much differently, so it will come down to who has the better night. I'll lean Johnson just because at the end of the day he's still faster and speed is the best quality to have at that division.

@PappaFeez (Dallas)

If Rousey withstood the initial onslaught fro, Cyborg and got her in the clinch to use here Judo I could see her winning for sure. It would be a kick ass fight for sure

Brett Okamoto
  (1:35 PM)

I just think Cyborg would be too strong to get thrown on the ground like that. And if you watch again, Meisha actually had success popping Rousey a few times on the feet before she got taken down ... so what does that mean in a fight against Cyborg?

@PappaFeez (Dallas)

UFC 150 should be in Cowboys stadium in front of 100K people

Brett Okamoto
  (1:36 PM)

From what I've heard, they're not blowing it out like it's some landmark event. 150 is a nice cool number, but it won't be the spectacle 100 was.

John (Denver)

Anybody in particular you think we should keep an eye on for this round of TUF? Should be really interesting to watch how the guys react to the knowledge that LOTS of eyes will be on them when they hit the cage.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:37 PM)

I'll be honest, I haven't dove into the cast of TUF yet. I get to meet all of them today, like in an hour actually, and I'll be at the house they'll be living in, which is kind of cool. I'll have a much better feel for the cast after today.

Ty (Wilmington)

As far as the Gray Maynard fight, it ended in a draw. That deserved to be settled. Now, Frankie lost fair and square. Just like when Frankie beat Maynard to make their match up even at one win a piece for both fighters. There was no rematch for Maynard to determine who is the legit winner right? Frankie didn't tie Henderson, he lost a decision. He should wait his turn to come back and win. Not put people on winning streaks in line to come back. That is "what's right"...thoughts?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:40 PM)

I think it's more about the BJ Penn rematch. The perception after that was it was a fluke, let's be real. I think Penn was still a 3.5-to-1 favorite in the rematch. So, Edgar had to swallow that pill. It's more about that then the Maynard fight because like you said, that was a draw and Maynard, if you remember, had actually waited a long time to get his shot as well despite being undefeated. Edgar has been a good company man for the UFC, it was right morally to give him the rematch. Do you make some great points though? Yes.

John Boy (Easton, Maryland)

If Sonnen can pull the upset in Brazil, would it go down as the greatest wins in MMA history?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:40 PM)

I would probably say ... yeah. It's tough to take the entire history of a sport and come up with "the greatest win ever" but given all the circumstances surrounding this fight? That would be my vote.

Vidal (Eburg)

If Frankie drops, does he deserve an immediate title shot?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:41 PM)

Yes.

Frank (Chi)

Cain would murder Fedor!

Brett Okamoto
  (1:41 PM)

It would not be close.

Studebaker (NJ)

If you could change one rule in the UFC, what would it be and why?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:44 PM)

Everybody always says the scoring system here, but I don't. If you give me a good alternative to what we're using now ... then I'm all ears, but to be honest, I don't see a huge advantage in the half-point system and unlike many MMA pundits out there, I don't necessarily love the Pride rules either where you judge an entire fight. I get it, the 10-point must is a boxing method, but all these guys have to fight within the same parameters. Everyone is on the same playing field, whether you think it's flawed or not. I'm not against changes to the scoring system, but I haven't seen any I've really loved yet. I know that didn't answer your question, but I had to go on a tangent there because everyone ALWAYS answers that question with, "Oh! The scoring system!" I just don't agree.

Michael (Philly)

I am perplexed by the amount of people who gave Edgar the second round. That upkick rocked his foundation and almost led to a finish. What did Edgar do as damaging as that?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:45 PM)

I scored it for Henderson but I can see there being a case for Frankie. He was winning the round until that happened. But that one upkick hurt Frankie waaaay more than any combination or takedown he put on Henderson the entire round, and that's what matters. Frankie was working his boxing he was successful on his takedowns but Henderson hurt him and threatened to put him away.

Collin (IL)

Is Kenny Florian retiring because of his back problems?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:46 PM)

I don't think anything is official yet. I do know he's moved to LA for this commentating gig and his focus definitely seems to be on that right now.

Andy (Chicago)

How did you score the Mccall fight? I had him winning as well as me with $300 on a +265. Which I know I wont get on the rematch.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:47 PM)

Great value bet there. I'll be honest, I didn't score the fight. I was watching, but not as closely as I do when I'm in the arena live and know I'll be writing about it. I need to rewatch. Another honest moment here, watching live I didn't feel 100 percent sure the third round was a 10-8.

@PappaFeez (Dallas)

MMA guys make WAY LESS than Boxers of similar stature. They don't make enought money.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:48 PM)

It depends. Low-level boxers? They can make $200 for a fight. It's easy to think about a guy like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao drawing $25 million. But those guys are few and far between.

John Boy (Easton, Maryland)

Is there going to be another A-Team movie? Love it.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:48 PM)

Thought it was kinda cheesy. But thought Rampage did a good job.

Josh (NYC)

Isn't Forrest himself effectively semi-retired?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:49 PM)

No. He's not really a guy in title hunts anymore so he doesn't have a real urgency to get in the cage, but he's definitely not finished.

Austin (Detroit)

Really? People saying Frankie cried his way into a rematch? Give me a break...The guy simply said that he did two immediate rematches and asked, "What is fair?" The guy deserves the rematch, not to mention dropping down to fight Aldo is a tough fight and he would be in Hendo territory...Not a good look.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:52 PM)

What do you mean by Hendo territory? I'm not following that one. Austin, do you realize how small Frankie is at 155? He's cutting ZERO pounds. Nobody in MMA does that except heavyweights. Is it admirable? Yes. But he's the only one not cutting any weight. He could make 145, EASY. And yes, Aldo is a tough fight, but obviously so is Ben Henderson. Against Aldo, you're still fighting for a belt and you're fighting a guy who is typically ranked in the top 5 p4p ... so why not go for it? The only reason I can see is that there is just not as much attention on the 145 division as there is 155. As good as Aldo is, the casual fan doesn't know him quite yet. But Edgar is a name, so him moving to 145 would help that immediately. He should move, man. I respect him for wanting him to stay at 155, but he should move.

Tiago (Sao Paulo)

I'm a big JDS fan, but I think Overeem's Kickboxing might be a little better than JDS's Boxing. Not to mention those knees he threw against Lesnar seemed devastating. Who do you think wins that fight? I can only assume it won't go to a decision.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:54 PM)

My early, gut feeling (which, admittedly, tends to change sometimes) is with Overeem. JDS is more fluid, quicker, but he actually gets hit. In 64 seconds with Cain Velasquez, he got tagged. Rewatch the fight, I promise you it happened. Against Roy Nelson ... he got hit. I think Overeem can jump on him early and take him out of his comfort zone. It's a great fight ... can't wait for it.

Floyd (Monument (Co))

what are your thoughts on the Rox this season? Can Cargo bounce back?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:55 PM)

If he stays healthy. He looked kinda big in some of the early photos I saw. The offense is gonna rake. Scutaro getting on base then Fowler, Cargo, Tulo, Cuddyer, Helton???? God, I can't wait for April.

Jr (Arizona)

Wasn't Thiago Alves winning the fight after 2? Why go for a takedown?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:56 PM)

In his defense, the takedown was there. Kampmann was stood upright with nowhere to move, easy takedown target, and with a minute left you're thinking "I take this guy down and ride this decision out." Also in Thiago's defense, his ground game had looked much better early in the fight. But in that situation, Kampmann has never flash KO'd a guy in the UFC. He's got one TKO victory, and five submission wins. So, it wasn't the right move all things considered. I'm sure Thiago would take it back.

TC (Florida)

What's up with Guida? He beat Pettis and had amazing fight with Bendo. Why he is not mentioned more often with the other contenders.

Brett Okamoto
  (1:57 PM)

He's mentioned, he's just not at the top right now. We're all expecting him to fight Maynard ... that's definitely not a step down in competition. Guida is there.

mike (los angeles)

is Thompson really the only guy Gill can fight...can Dana please have him fight Pettis and the winner gets Bendo

Brett Okamoto
  (1:58 PM)

Ain't gonna happen. Gil vs. Josh III, GET YOUR POPCORN READY!!!! ...... On that, what a company line from Gil on the SF broadcast after Josh won. Something to the effect of, "Oh, we know each other well so it should be an amazing fight." We feel for you Gil. We do.

Ken (ca.)

Brett, how much time/upclose observation do you take, to look at the fighters before making your picks?

Brett Okamoto
  (1:59 PM)

A lot. It's an easy thing to get into. I love watching fights and trying to break down how it's going to play out before it does.

Jeff (OH)

Are you talking about Cyborg on steroids or off steroids?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:00 PM)

I knew that was coming at some point. I'm gonna say either one still beats Rousey.

Mike (Syracuse)

Where do you see the eventual flyweight title fight taking place? Certainly not the cache to headline a PPV, but perhaps a main event on Fuel?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:01 PM)

I was talking to Benavidez about that before he flew to Sydney and he was thinking co-main on a PPV. I thought main event on FX or Fox. Give fans another free title fight and you gotta believe the first 125 championship fight will deliver action. Guess we'll see.

Pat (Boston)

Who does Chad Mendes fight next? Is team Alpha Male going to continue to come up short or will benavidez win a belt in the UFC?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:01 PM)

Not sure who they give Chad. I do favor Benavidez to win it all, but either one of those guys should give him a very tough fight.

mike (los angeles)

Do you really think if Edgar drops down he could beat Aldo...I don't see it because he will still be smaller and won't have the speed advantage

Brett Okamoto
  (2:02 PM)

He took Hendo down, who is basically a welterweight. He'd take Aldo down. He's got a ridiculous chin and maybe the most heart in the UFC (Gotta go with him or Diego Sanchez, right?) If he gets Aldo on the ground consistently in the fight and is quick enough to avoid getting countered (which is what Aldo does), he wins.

Steve (Work)

What happens to the loser of Cruz/Faber III? Would Cruz drop? Urijah can't really move up.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:04 PM)

Nah, Cruz wouldn't drop. He'd want to get back to Urijah. Don't think they'd make that fight right away but I'd expect Cruz to take a fight, win, and get back in the title picture pretty quick. If Urijah loses, honestly don't know. He's still got plenty in the tank it seems, but don't know where or when he'd ever fight for a title again.

Matt (Nashville)

Who's next for Weidman @ MW? Okami make sense? or the winner of Palhares/Belcher?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:04 PM)

Not Okami, he just lost. Last week someone said Tim Boetsch. I agreed with that.

Jeremy (Pittsburgh)

Did you see Roy Nelson's Facebook bet? 100K likes in two weeks and he moves down to 205. Assuming he can drop the weight, who would you like to see him fight first? Who do you think the UFC would give him?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:06 PM)

Good. Go down Roy. If you can make it and you feel good then you should be doing it anyway. As far as first opponent, we don't need to get crazy on him immediately. Someone like a Stephan Bonnar or Luiz Cane ... that range.

Joe Streitenberger (Grove City Ohio)

Who are you taking in the faber and cruz fight. i think faber wins by tko. Cant wait for tuf as well and do they really have beef.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:07 PM)

They do really have beef. And I'm leaning Cruz but don't think it will be an easy fight at all. Faber will be so motivated. He's always motivated but he'll be especially motivated. Plus, Cruz's hand has been hurt since like, 1993. How has that affected his ability to get better in the gym? Will it finally affect him in a fight?

David (Chicago)

Who do you have for Miller-Diaz?? I'm hoping Diaz wins!

Brett Okamoto
  (2:08 PM)

I'm thinking Diaz. Where will Miller win? It's not like his ground game is much better than Nate's. Nate is the bigger guy with better striking. Definitely thinking Nate.

mike (los angeles)

I believe a takedown with no control were a fighter gets right back up should get no points

Brett Okamoto
  (2:08 PM)

Agree completely.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:09 PM)

I'll take it a step further. A takedown, where the guy doesn't get right back up but the other guy sits in his guard for like one or two minutes, then the guy gets back up should basically count for nothing. Holding a guy on the mat doesn't count for much ... only if that is seriously the ONLY, ONLY thing that happened in the round.

Ken (ca.)

Guys, Fedor is tough to take down, and submit, and very experienced on the feet, don't excuse his chances against anyone, so quickly...

Brett Okamoto
  (2:10 PM)

Cain would take him down. And he would wear his cardio out in the first round.

Tony S. (KY)

Over/Under 1 year for Bones Jones to jump to heavyweight.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:11 PM)

I love these appeals to my taste for gambling! It's a good line Tony, damn good line. I'll take the over.

Cantseefade (Atlanta)

You were wrong to poo poo Mark Hunt fighting a top 10 guy earlier. Physique aside Hunt has had good results recently and with his power could be a threat to anyone... including overeem.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:12 PM)

I'm not poo pooing! I give Hunt a shot against these guys ... I just can't believe a guy who didn't have an MMA fight in years can come into the UFC and win like he has with the shortcomings that he has. He's underrated athletically because of the physique, but let's be real. He doesn't really put together these fantastic combinations. He's not an above average wrestler and he has no submission game ... yet he's on the verge of top 10? That's a weak heavyweight division is all I'm saying.

Ryan (Virginia)

Since this immediate rematch has been made...which I totally agree with...where do you put the winner of Diaz/Miller and Pettis at? I for one am thinking Winner of that fight and Pettis fight for the #1 Spot...so pretty much Diaz vs Edgar some time early 2013 IMO

Brett Okamoto
  (2:13 PM)

Yeah, Diaz/Miller vs. Pettis for No. 1 spot. My unofficial prediction is Pettis vs. Henderson at the end of the day.

DFA (Edmonton)

I don't get the huge backlash over Alves taking down Kampann late in the third round. I had Hitman winning Rd 1 and Alves winning 2 & 3 up to that point. Alves had him hurt and looked like he was trying to take him down to go for the finish. Sure in hindsight it backfired but was it such a bad strategy?

Brett Okamoto
  (2:15 PM)

It's only a bad strategy because of what I said earlier, you're fighting a guy with five submission wins and very little one-punch KO power. Basically, with a minute left, you put the fight in the area that gave your opponent the best shot at winning. I'm not going to BLAST Alves for the decision, but there is no question ... it wasn't the right move.

Brett Okamoto
  (2:16 PM)

Alright guys, I gotta takeoff for this thing over at the Ultimate Fighter house. Thanks again for hanging out and we'll do it again next Wednesday. Go Rox.
