Chat with Chad Ford

  (1:20 PM)

Hang on folks. Chad's probably gotten tied up with some stories. We're tracking him down.

Chad Ford
  (1:30 PM)

Hey guys, sorry for the late start. Was tracking down some trade deadline rumors ... let's roll

Jimmy (Tampa)

what is the exact offer on the table for Dwight to NJ?

Chad Ford
  (1:32 PM)

Anything they want with the exception of Deron Williams. Nets are offering multiple first round picks, Brook Lopez, Marshon Brooks, etc ... If the Magic want to rebuild, it's probably the best offer they'll get.

chris (brooklyn)

would the knicks trade melo and chandler for dwight?

Chad Ford
  (1:33 PM)

Yes. I think the Knicks would do that deal. The question is ... would the Magic? A deal of Melo and Chandler for Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu works under the cap. It for sure works for the Knicks. If the Magic were convinced that they could get Melo out of this current funk and that he'd be happy, it might work for them too.

glenn (pa)

so with the deadline approaching gut feeling, dwight will be..........

Chad Ford
  (1:35 PM)

I think he'll be traded. Didn't think that on Monday ... but the stunts he's pulled the past two days have to be the finally writing on the wall for the Magic. Dwight saying he wants the Magic to "roll the dice" is clearly self serving. He'd prefer that the Nets and any other team he might like to play for don't gut their team to get him. If the Magic can't see that then they deserve to lose him.

Andrew (Sota)

What are the Wolves going to do at the deadline? Hear a lot of talk on MANY teams calling on Beasley.

Chad Ford
  (1:38 PM)

I love that story ... "Beasley is a VERY hot topic ..." and "many" teams are interested ... and it's from a Minnesota source. What do you think they're going to say? No one wants the guy. Clearly they want to move him and clearly they're trying to create a market for him. Whether any of this is actually real? I haven't found a team dying to get their hands on Beasley. I think some would take him for the right price ... but teams are lined up to give away assets for him.

Nick (VA)

Why does everyone think Dwight going to New Jersey is a lock when everyone close to DWilliams has said he wants to go to Dallas this summer?

Chad Ford
  (1:39 PM)

I think DWill goes to Dallas if Dwight goes somewhere else ... via trade or free agency. If Dwight goes to NJ in the next 26 hours ... my guess is they stay together.

Taylor (Rip City)

I have class in twenty minutes so we'll have to make this quick. Is jamal crawford going anywhere and are the blazers part of any new rumors?

Chad Ford
  (1:41 PM)

Don't want you to miss class Taylor. Let's just put this way. Either the Blazers find a new home for Raymond Felton and Jamal Crawford (who have quietly orchestrated a mutiny ever since Nate McMillan chewed them out in a video session a while back) or they'll probably have to let Nate go. If I'm a Blazer fan ... I'd rather lose Felton and Crawford. They won't get a lot for either guy, but there is such a thing as addition by subtraction.

Mike R (Boston)

Think Ainge has a change of heart and trade some of the "Old 3"?

Chad Ford
  (1:43 PM)

Look, Ainge has to say what he has said the past few days. They aren't trading anyone. However, do you honestly believe that Ainge wouldn't pull the trigger in a heartbeat on Rondo, KG, Ray Allen or even Paul Pierce if the right deal presents itself. He's not having a fire sale ... fair enough. That wouldn't serve his interest. But this team's shelf life is almost over. If he can parlay that into something that helps the team in the future, he's going to do it.

David (Colombia)

What move do you expect the Lakers to do? Will it involve Gasol?

Chad Ford
  (1:45 PM)

I think it will involve Gasol. But again, the Lakers won't just give him away. They're in the same boat as the Celtics. Too many players are on the wrong side of 30. The Lakers are going downhill, it's not a question of if, it's a question of when. If they can reload for the future by moving Gasol, they do it. If not, you look again this summer.

Zack (Vegas)

Who do you think won the trade between Golden State and Milwaukee?

Chad Ford
  (1:49 PM)

Short term: Milwaukee. They are clinging to an 8th seed right now and adding Ellis and Udoh in return for two guys who weren't playing should get them there. The Bucks also get some cap flexibility starting this summer as well. Long term: Golden State if Bogut comes back and is healthy. They've needed a talented big man for a long time and Ellis and Curry just weren't working together in the backcourt. Golden State may come out OK in the short term to if they end up losing enough to keep their draft pick this year. If it's 1-7 they keep it. If it's 8-30, they have to send it to the Jazz.

Larry (Vegas)

Any moves forth coming for the Jazz?

Chad Ford
  (1:50 PM)

They're positioned really well to make move. Doubt it will be a big one like last year. Maybe CJ Miles or Josh Howard.

Doug (Cincy)

Think the Pacers make any moves before the deadline?

Chad Ford
  (1:52 PM)

Pacers have the luxury of not having to do anything. If the right deal falls in the lap ... they have a ton of flexibility and assets. But the team is playing well, is young and still has room to grow. Something like getting Chris Kaman or maybe Jamal Crawford (who they pursued in FA this summer) might make some sense.

Byron (Portland, OR)

Is there anything fans of the Pistons should be paying attention to right now?

Chad Ford
  (1:53 PM)

Sure. Team is playing much better. They have a nice young foundation with Monroe, Stuckey and Knight. Things are getting better.

Nasir (Philly)

Any news regarding the Bulls? Heard they are working on a 3-team deal to land him. Are they targeting any SGs?

Chad Ford
  (1:54 PM)

I think Bulls would love to get Pau. Just have to find a taker for Carlos Boozer. That's not that easy.

Todd (Tn)

If Uconn and Kentucky meet in the third round would the Davis vs. Drummond matchup have any effect on who goes #1 in the draft or is Davis already to far ahead of the field?

Chad Ford
  (1:56 PM)

Davis will be the No. 1 pick in the draft unless he suffers a major injury between now and the draft. But could help propel Drummond to No. 2. Scouts love the raw talent, but are a little unsure on him.

Dorian (GA)

What NCAA tourney matchup are you most wanting to see based on draft prospects?

Chad Ford
  (1:59 PM)

First Round? UNLV v. Colorado. I think Mike Moser and Andre Roberson are both underrated. Two rebounding beasts. Looking forward to seeing them go head to head. Second Round? UConn vs. KY all the way.

Rick (Phoenix)

Who are in your Final Four?

Chad Ford
  (2:00 PM)

Kentucky, Missouri, UNC and Vanderbilt. I have UNC-Kentucky in the title game and have Kentucky winning it all.

Chad Ford
  (2:01 PM)

Gotta run everyone. Sorry the chat was cut short this week. Have a happy trade deadline day tomorrow and enjoy the start of March Madness. Thursday may be the greatest basketball day ever.
