Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:03 PM)

Greetings, People and pets.

Adam (Charleston)

Previously you've said that Munchack's fate was tied to the success or failure of Jake Locker. Is it now tied to the success or failure Peyton Manning, assumming they get them, or does he get a pass because the old man made him do it.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:04 PM)

B.

Shaun (TN)

If the Peyton thing happens, over/under on the number of primetime games this year with that schedule. Has to be more than last year!

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:05 PM)

Five. The max. Don't know how new Thursday nights factor in since everyone has to be on once.

Steven K. (Spokane Community College)

I am hearing a lot of knocks on Tennessee in their attempted pursuit of Peyton (the Texans and how good they are, a la Golic this morning), in your mind Pete, what is the biggest stumbling block for Peyton to come to the Titans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:05 PM)

Not the Texans. We think he fears a team he regularly shredded? The Broncos are probably the biggest stumbling block.

Texans Fan (Cowering in FEAR) (Texas)

Do I have reason to cower? Can we not catch a break? When it seemed our destined time, we now may have to STILL take on Manning twice a year.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:06 PM)

Never mind that, now about holding on to some of your key people beyond Foster?

Shaun (TN)

Can a Manning led Titan team with one of the best NFL O-Lines possibly getting better, a top 5 RB, and 2 upcoming pass catchers overtake the defense that Wade has established in Houston?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:06 PM)

It will be a compelling story line and I'd doubt the division would be wrapped up before the last weekend.

Colin Bailey (Indy)

Good afternoon, Paul. If the Colts keep Freeney, do they have the money to bring in anyone else, particularly Evan Mathis?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:07 PM)

I think so, and I like that match.

Jason (San Francisco)

Do you see the titans in the sweepstakes for Freeney? OSI? Abraham? If they sign Manning to a monster deal?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:07 PM)

Yes, one of them. Freeney first, I'd think.

Kevin (Knoxville)

Any knowledge about Winston Justice? Is he really starting material?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:09 PM)

Wrote about him yesterday. Certainly a good add for a team in need of options. Big. Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. said he thinks he'll be the starting RT.

Sahil (Houston)

Continuity on the offensive line is really important to how well they work. How concerned should Texans fans be to see at least one if not three parts leaving during the offseason?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:09 PM)

Very.

Bob (Nashville)

Whats the likely hood of the Titans signing Center Chris Meyers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:10 PM)

I think they get at least Myers, Wells or Hutchinson.

John (Houston)

It almost seems as if the Texans were setting some money aside in hopes Mario would resign, and if (when) he doesn't, then that frees up money for Myers, Dreesen, etc. Is that how you are reading the tea leaves? How much longer do you think Texans can afford to wait on Mario to decide?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:10 PM)

Yes, that's true. But don't miss out by holding money for Mario. It won't be enough. He's gone. Move on before you lose someone else.

Aaron (Knoxville)

Paul, as a Jags fan I am at about a 7 out of 10 how they have handled the start of the 2012 season so far. I really like all of their moves so far, but I think they need to do more. Is there any chance they sign Lloyd at WR or Freeney at DE; I think they still need to do more, what are your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:11 PM)

I could see Lloyd. Freeney isn't a free agent. That would take a trade and contract negotiations.

Manny (Houston)

If the Titans don't get Peyton, which free agents do they turn their attention to now that it also appears that Super Mario is headed to Buffalo?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:12 PM)

O-line. A Freeney trade possibly.

Dan (Florida )

Who do you think the Jags are going to draft in the first round, and is there any chance Justin Blackmon falls to them?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:12 PM)

Blackmon will be gone, and I need to see the rest of free agency before saying. DE also a huge need.

chris (boston)

how do incentive based contracts work into the cap. if peyton signs somewhere with hypothetically a small base salary is that the cap number or is the max possible money to be made the cap number?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:13 PM)

The incentives hit when earned. If you have room to put them back in season they were earned, you do. If not, they go on the next one.

Chris (Texas)

Do the Texans Cut Jacoby Jones? Do they Add a Corner via FA?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:14 PM)

They should cut Jones when they need more cash. I think the stable of corners is OK if they retain Jason Allen. Brandon Harris should make a leap.

Blueman (Indy)

Bud Adams "lifetime contract"for Manning? Is this offer possibly a part ownership after retirement?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:15 PM)

Yes, but not in detail now because of cap complications. Just a solid handshake on a plan.

JLDTN (Titans Fan) (Earth)

Dear Fans - I do not want to hear ANY B!tchin about the Titans not going after big name free agents for at least the rest of this year. You think you can handle that little request? DOUBT IT.Thank you

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:15 PM)

What he said.

Jeff (Nashville)

Does the parade of visiting O-linemen indicate that Nashville is now the preferred destination to study under Munch/Bruce?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:16 PM)

I'm sure a lot of linemen would like to play here. But you didn't see Nicks or Grubbs begging to come or turning down big money elsewhere.

Steve (Syracuse)

Thoughts on the Jags recent additions? As a Titans fan do should they're decisions make me happy?

Peyton Manning (Hiding Out in Nashville)

PK, I feel like I have left you in the dark and I haven't been communicating, come on over to the hotel.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

How much better is L. Robinson than B. Lloyd? Lloyd has a better body of work and I can't help but wonder if he would be a better value. I get that market demand set Robinson's price and that you can't sign a receiver who doesn't want to play for you but, as you noted, the Robinson signing is more of an "upside" opportunity than a "known" one.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:17 PM)

Not better, in my estimation.

Andrew (Nashville)

I'm just glad Vince isn't around to label this the 'dream team', can we forgive Bud for drafting that guy if this works out well?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:18 PM)

If I make a dumb mistake today and a great decision tomorrow, I still made a dumb mistake today.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

How does the L-Rob signing by the Jags compare to the other WR deals so far? Did the Jags have to overpay for a very good no. 3 last year to be their no. 2 or 1?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:19 PM)

It's too much. Look at post from last night, I compared a bit.

Midge (Indy)

Odds that we can re-sign Saturday for a year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:19 PM)

I would think he'd be up for it. Are the Colts?

Val (Las Vegas)

How much impact does the receiving corps in Denver and Tennessee play in Manning's decision? And which set of receivers are better suited to his game? Wayne is gone -- as are the major free agent options, so these groups seem somewhat set other thn from the draft. Is Thomas equal to Britt? Would each team use high draft picks in this direction? Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:20 PM)

I think the Titans' group probably has a bit more upside. I don't think it'll be a deciding factor. Everything is one small piece.

Midge (Indy)

Really like bringing back Reggie. Precise routes, great hands, great character. Now to draft a stud burner and our receiving corps isn't the disaster everyone proclaimed!

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:21 PM)

A smart move all around. Though Wayne may wonder when they are 1-7 or something like that.

Midge (Indy)

Do you think Ijalana will be starting RG next year? Does Reitz fill the LG spot again?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:22 PM)

Way too early to say. Have to see who else they bring in.

Adam (Cookeville, TN)

If Titans sign Peyton, I wonder if they will still have training camp practices open to the public? Might be too much of a crowd control issue and then there's Peyton and his whole secrecy complex.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:22 PM)

They'll still have open. Colts had open. League really mandates at least some open.

Hutton (Nashville)

Can we add Manning watch to the list?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:23 PM)

I'm not minding this at all.

Colin (Indy)

If Evan Mathis doesn't come to Indy, do you think some of the recently released vets like Steinbach or Faine could be an option with a relatively low-risk, high-reward contract?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:24 PM)

Yes. I think they will consider guys like that at a lot of positions.

Armando (Houston,TX)

Texans free agent targets???? And are they tracking sown a #2 wideout?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:24 PM)

None. They have no money.

Adam (Cookeville, TN)

Do you think Matt Hasselbeck has any trade value if Titans sign Peyton or will it just be a cut and move on situation?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:25 PM)

Maybe. Could depend on Kolb bonus.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:25 PM)

Mort says Bills have press conference later to announce Mario signing.

Brett (Nashville)

Did Coach Fisher pay wayyyy too much for Finnegan?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:26 PM)

I think so.

Mike (Nashville)

Do the titans look at LaRon Landry? KVB revived his career in Nashville after two ACL injuries, why couldnt he? A healthy Landry offers the perfect hard-hitting complement to Griffin's coverage abilities.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:27 PM)

No. They signed Babineaux, he's the second starter.

thumper (california)

if 49ers get manningham will they be super bowl contenders

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:27 PM)

Already are.

Cole (Lexington, KY)

If the Titans sign Manning, do you think he would prefer Saturday over Myers and Wells at center?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:28 PM)

He's not going to be making personnel decisions.

Person (DC)

If Tennessee does get Manning, I think the Colts should play Wayne on defense and run him across the field, just in case Manning throws the ball to him out of habit.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:29 PM)

Nice

Jim Wyatt (Nashville)

*sniff* *sniff* (stands in corner sobbing quietly watching all the excitement)

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:30 PM)

I think you are on a beach, doing just fine.

Paul (Nashville)

Should the Texans be exploring more options at QB or are they going bet the farm on Schaub's health?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:34 PM)

Farm + Yates.

Ej (Indiana)

Do you think there could be a Luck RG3 Rivalry?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:34 PM)

Of course. But they won't play often.

R J (Nashville)

Hasselbeck to the Colts if the Titans pick up Manning?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:34 PM)

Doubt it, but not a bad idea. Toss him into a Freeney deal?

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Why didn't Mincey explore FA?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:35 PM)

He did. He talked extensively with the Bears. Jaguars stepped up and he wanted to stay.

Christian (Denmark)

Which position would Manning have in Titans FO? Reinfeldt's position? Websters?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:37 PM)

Neither. A third position, if that's even what they are talking about. He's not going to start in a front office as a decision maker. And I would bet he takes some time away when he is done.

Sahil (Houston)

Bills just announced a 1:30 press conference. Mario signing?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:37 PM)

Yes, as I wrote earlier here.

Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)

So you think the Titans would let Hasselback go instead of trading Locker (if they got Manning)? How would that make any sense? Eight overall pick for a backup, who would just be demanding a trade within a year anyway?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:38 PM)

I don't think it. I know it. And let him demand. Where is his leverage?

Janet (Indy)

Any fear that CJ's huge ego will be a problem if Manning is running the show and CJ is no longer the man?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:43 PM)

How do people think this stuff up? The search for holes to punch often overextends. Chris Johnson wasn't "the man" for the Titans last year. Hasselbeck was.

Mike (Nashville)

Yeah titans resigned babineaux, but they still have very little depth at safety. S and DE have to be priorities for this team. The Manning news dominates, but honestly, how many of the titans losses can you attribute to poor qb play? Maybe the one at indy? I'd say the defense (and lack of a running game) turned a 12-4 candidate into a 9-7 team last year. I'm guessing they plan on a D-heavy draft and bringing in some younger lesser known FAs with some upside?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:44 PM)

Sure they will be almost all defense from here.

Peyton (TN)

Pete, I just can't quit you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:44 PM)

Mutual.

Keith (Tennessee)

Why is Mario considering the bills does he not want to win a super bowl?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:45 PM)

People said the same thing about Reggie White when he went to Green Bay.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:45 PM)

People said the same thing about Reggie White when he went to Green Bay.

Janet (Indy)

Does the version of the 3-4 the Colts will be implamenting play a lot of press coverage and if so is finding a stud CB an extremely important part of making the defense work.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:46 PM)

I don't know what the secondary scheme will be. But no matter what it is, they'll need corners for it. They have one: Powers.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Do you see Tannehill being a bargaining chip for the Jaguars at 7? Assumes Miami and Seattle would have signifcant interest.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:46 PM)

Possible.

Henry (Arkansas)

With the maturity of several young titans defensive players (Ayers, Klug, and Verner) and the loss of defensive stalwarts over the years (Bulluck, Finnegan etc) would it be wise to sign some older vets to teach the younger guys how to be a professional and not go the way of failed players?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:47 PM)

They've got some of that in Will Witherspoon. Certainly would be nice in a defensive end. But you can't force it.

Daniel (F)

When does Manning have to make his decision by?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:49 PM)

By the time teams get sick of waiting on him, I guess.

David (VA)

Can anyone imagine Lavelle Hawkins in a Peyton Manning led offense with all the audibles? He can barely run the right routes now. "I don't know what's going on, I'll just run straight!"

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:50 PM)

I have similar fears regarding Jared Cook.

Christian (Virginia)

If Manning happens to go to Denver, where will Tebow go?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:51 PM)

Nobody knows. Not Jacksonville. Not Tennessee. Not Houston. Not Indy. I can tell you that much.

Trey (Houston)

how have the Texans not released Jacoby or restructured Daniels but let go Winston and possibly Myers and Mario??? Andre restructured his deal and yet we are still on the hook for Jacoby? We are taking more of a cap hit for Jacoby than Andre this year. Mind boggling...

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:51 PM)

Relax. He'll go when they get to a point where they need the money, I believe. Ryans also overpriced right now but not sure getting out of that doesn't cost more cap-wise.

LuvYaBlue77 (Camden Delaware)

What is your gut tellling you, do the Titans get this done?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:53 PM)

I think so. Gut feeling. Not based on anything I have learned.

Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)

I don't see the logic in Miami trading up one spot to choose a player the Jags just aren't going to take, but I can definitely see Seattle going there. Since it would be for a QB, could the Jags get a good haul in that scenario?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:54 PM)

Don't be selfish. Doesn't have to be a haul.

Andrew (New York)

If Manning does come to the Titans do you see them signing an "insurance" receiver? Maybe bring in Clark to keep manning happy.

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:55 PM)

Gonzalez is more likely to me, but perhaps Clark. Depending on price.

John (Queensland)

Do you think Peyton stayed in the AFC because he is afraid of playing against his two time superbowl winning bro?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:56 PM)

First he hasn't stayed and second, no.

Val (Las Vegas)

How will Jags enter camp -- open competition between Henne and Gabby? Your reaction to Henne signing?

Paul Kuharsky
  (12:56 PM)

Gabbert is the starter. They signed Henne to backup him up and be a fallback plan.

LP (Nashvegas)

PK, any chance the Titans go after David Cutcliffe as QB coach to further entice PM?

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:00 PM)

This thing where they are going to do all sorts of crazy things to roster and staff to appease him is silly. They've made their case. They'd make some minor alterations. They aren't firing their QB coach. And why would Cutliffe want to be a low-ranking assistant? C'mon man!

The End (Is Here)

I ain't heard no fat lady! Forget the fat lady. You're obsessed with fat lady. Just get us out of here!

Paul Kuharsky
  (1:01 PM)

She has spoken. Enjoy the games!
