The Bulls are just wrapping practice. Nick will be here very soon so keep the questions coming.
Greetings from the Berto Center everybody. Sorry I was a little late. Let's get the chat rolling ...
What is your best guess for when Rose comes back?
Well, it won't be tomorrow. Derrick still hasn't done much running. My guess is later next week. He'll probably sit a few more games.
Did the Bulls show any interest in Derek Fisher? I know theres a log jam in our back court but his leadership might have been nice in the playoffs.
The Bulls discussed adding Fisher, but with four point guards already on the roster, three guaranteed contracts, they didn't think they had to have him.
why are the bulls so good without d-rose?
Hey Nick. Let's say the playoffs started today and the Bulls played a seven game first round series against the Knicks or Bucks. My question is, can they win a first round series against one of those teams if Derrick Rose sits out the entire series? I mean, they're 11-4 without him as of the other night against the Raptors. What are your thoughts?
No matter who the Bulls play, they need Derrick in order to win the series. The Bulls could win a game or two without him, but they couldn't win four of seven against a playoff team without him for that long.
Boozer's play has really been great lately, do you feel the same way? He looks better than ever in a Bulls uniform.
Boozer has played much better over the past couple weeks. The issue for Carlos is that nobody will remember how well he is playing right now if he plays poorly in the playoffs again. Fairly or unfairly, Boozer's whole season will be judged on how he performs in the playoffs.
It's unprecedented, but Thibodeau should win COY again, right?
I really believe he should. For the second year in a row he has done more with less. He has maximized the potential in his roster. He has the players believing they can win whenever they step on the floor -- no matter who is playing. I don't know if he'll win the award -- but he deserves it.
so has joakim being givin jimmy butler the business today after florida dismantled marquette last night?
Oh yeah. Noah has been letting Jimmy know early and often that Florida came out on top last night.
What's the buzz around the Berto Center on Nikola Mirotic?
They like him ... but they know they won't see him for probably at least another three years.
Which blazer tomorrow? And did you ever consider just going by "The Blazer"? Bulls Chat with The Blazer..Waddle and Silvy welcome in The Blazer..so on.
Never thought about that -- but it could work. Trying to find an orange one for tomorrow. But it has to be the right shade of Syracuse orange.
What is the latest on Rip Hamilton's shoulder? Is he coming back at all for the regular season?
Thibs just said he's doing a little more -- but I still think he'll be out a few more weeks.
Do the Bulls have any money to sign an offensive-minded big who could give them 8-10 minutes per game in the playoffs?
No matter who the Bulls sign -- don't look for that player to get any significant minutes. The rotation is set.
How is rose's attitude while he sits out games? what are his contributions like in the locker rooom at halftime, end of game, etc.?
Derrick is still vocal and supportive with his teammates, but it's killing not to be on the floor.
whats more important to pick up, a guard or big man? in my opinion rips to old and ronnie brewer is unreliable
Let's throw this out to the group: If the Bulls could only make one move -- who would you want them to add right now that would really make a difference in the playoffs? I don't there is anyone out there -- but I'm curious as to what you guys think.
There is a huge difference between playing NY or the Bucks in the first round, they will beat either of those teams but it would be sooo much easier on the Bulls to travel to Milwaukee where the Bulls fans would own the Bradley center compared to tough away games in MSG. Thoughts? I know the Bulls would say they don't care.
No, they care. They would much rather play the Bucks.
It may not seem like it, but the Bulls are pretty deep at the guard positions. Rose, Watson, Lucas... Rip, Brewer, Korver... ADD A BIG
A lot of people are saying this -- my point has always been if you add a big who would it be? And do you think that player would make much of a difference? The Bulls would like to add another big body, but there aren't a lot of solid options out there.
Doing a great job, Nick. As for da Bulls, I'm really concerned that while our strong depth is an asset during the regular season, that strength will diminish relative to other teams during the playoffs, as star players and starters' minutes increase. Can you make me feel better about this, please?
Dan, I can't do it. Sorry. I actually agree with you. So does Waddle.
What numbers does Boozer have to put up in the playoffs before you would consider him as having had a successful season? Or is it just about the wins?
If Boozer goes off for a 20/10 during the Eastern Conference finals every night and the Bulls beat the Heat, Boozer will win back all the fans who are doubting him.
Alright OBVIOUSLY the Bulls aren't adding a big, they don't need one. What is relevant and I'm curious about is if Thibs has hinted as to who will get the majority of back up PG minutes come playoffs. Is JLIII leaving his impression on Thibs, not to count him out?
If Rose and Watson are healthy, they will be getting all the huge bulk of minutes.
Are the Bulls going to rest Deng more so his wrist isn't bothering him even more come playoff time?
If Lu tells Tom he needs a rest, Tom is going to give him one. If not, Deng will be out there playing 35-40 minutes a night.
Nick, when the dust from this season settles and Derrick's new contract goes into affect, who will most likely not be back next year from the current team?
The guess, and it's just a guess, is that Jimmy Butler takes Ronnie Brewer's rotation spot and Ronnie ends up elsewhere. But if Rip can't get healthy, then all bets are off.
Do you think when Rose returns he could possibly "upset" the chemistry of the rotation from the last 5 games? They have been playing so well together.
Not a chance. The players know they need Derrick in order to win.
I understand that most coaches usually shorten the bench in the playoffs, but I think its a bad idea for our team. Thibs has to know that from what happened last year in the playoffs. Our bench guys didn't get many minutes. We're currently winning with a deep bench and Thibs has to use this to our advantage in the playoffs. Has Thibs mentioned anything about this?
Thibs may use the bench for a couple more minutes, but if the Bulls and Heat make it to the Eastern Conference finals, you're going to see a lot of Derrick and Luol playing 42-44 minutes every night.
Nick, Big rematch tonight, IU vs. Kentucky. Who ya got?
Kentucky. Way, way too much talent.
Does Omer speak English? I picture him like Vakidis from Semi-Pro.
Omer's English is getting better and better actually.
Nick, what's a normal day at the Berto like for you? All business? Or are you able to come and go as you please?
We sit in a small room and listen to Thibs bark at the players. There are curtains drawn so we can't see anything. We wait until Bulls' PR man Tim Hallam comes over and claps for us to come in. Then we watch the players wrap up their free throws. So to answer your question, it's all business.
Why does it take you so long to answer questions?
It's hard to filter through the same three questions 300 times. 1. How is Derrick? 2. How is Rip? 3. When are the Bulls amnestying Boozer? I'd be happy to hit on a lot of topics, but it takes a little more time to find the good questions.
With the play of Lucas improving, do you ever see him taking CJ's spot? Lucas is reminding me of Barea and how he helped transform Dallas' bench.
Nope. If John were a few inches taller it might be a different story, but I think Thibs will always lean towards a bigger guard for that backup position.
THE CUSEEEE IN THE HOUSE!!!! Nick please tell me you'll come to one of the games if we make it to the to the Final Four?! We gotta put you in our Orange painted crew!
If the Cuse wins tomorrow, I'll be in New Orleans on Saturday.
All right everybody, I am out of here. I will talk to you guys next week from the Berto again. If you come to a game this week, come over and say hello.
