Keep sending in your questions. We'll get started in a sec.
OK, let's get rolling...
Do you think that QB Landry Jones will Throw for over 5,000 Yards for the Sooners in 2012?
I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Last year, the computers favored the Big 12 big because of the strength in non-conference schedule and the overall record. How do you think the computers will treat the Big 12 next season?
That really depends on how the Big 12 does in the non-conference. OU beating Notre Dame, Texas beating Ole Miss, Oklahoma State beating Arizona, those things make the difference.
What will blake bell's role be this year? I can't see landry coming back for his senior year if he gets taken on like he did in the red zone last year?
I can't see OU shelving something that was so successful, but you're right, it's a very delicate situation.
Jake, Once and for all, Pronunce the following, Metoyer!thanks
Which player(s) on offense and defense will be stars this year that no ones talking about right now?
Couple guesses: Kameel Jackson on offense; R.J. Washington on defense.
What newcomer has had the biggest impact during spring ball?
Chaz Nelson and Brannon Green close behind.
Other than tmac which of ou's incoming tight ends are potential threats in the passing game? And who do you think will be the next sooner commit?
Other than Tmac, there's only Brannon Green right now.
Will any of the running backs go for over 1000 rushing this season?
If he's healthy, Dominique Whaley would have the best chance. Not sure Roy Finch will get the carries.
Last year fans/media didn't get on Heuple too much about play calling and game planning. Will everyone be as forgiving in his second year?
Because of what he did as a QB at OU, Heupel will always be given more leeway than past offensive coordinators. I don't think Heupel had a bad year even with the OSU game considering the injuries.
Anything new on Gardner?
Nada. We've been working on touching base with him, but he's been a bit reclusive since the arrest.
How much longer is this conference going to be around? It looks less and less appealing every year.
I don't know. I think the West Virginia and TCU games will be fun this year.
Has Daniel Noble proven to be the missing link on the intenior of the OU defensive line? How is he doing by the way? Is the young man still involved with the program?
No, Noble left the team last summer because of lingering concussion issues.
Who's had the most impressive sping out of the 3 back up QBs?
Neither Bell nor Allen has pulled away from one another. We'll have a better feel after the spring game.
Who wins the CB spot. Everett, Lynn, Powell. or will Aaron Colvin be moved over. What is the word out of spring?
Of Everett, Lynn and Powell, if I had to put money on it today, I'd say Powell. He's had a very solid spring. That said, it wouldn't stun me if Mike Stoops ultimately moved Colvin to corner.
Does Alex Ross make it into the rotation at rb or will he sit out this year?
He's a very strong redshirt candidate. I think they'll want to give Ross a year to acclimate academically.
Hey Jake! With Broyles now gone forever, OU really needs someone to step up in that ever-vital slot position. The slot that they run requires a certain skill-set that neither the incoming class nor returning players seem to possess. Do you think OU's passing game will evolve to a more vertical game or do you move someone like Finch or Clay to the slot full time to give a explosive dynamic on the outside or do you just keep them at RB?
Heupel is not shelving the slot receiver position. I see Finch and Clay getting spot duty there, but not full time. Trey Franks is probably the favorite to open there, but keep an eye on Sterling Shepard when he gets to campus this summer.
To me, OU's sputtering on offense had more to do with Jones' and his receivers inexplicable lapses in execution. I am hoping Norvell is focusing his attention on route running and holding onto the football?
Those things were part of it, but the major culprit was Broyles' knee.
Better OU nickname, Brian "The Boz" Bosworth or James "Busta" Rhymes?
Will Brennan Clay ever be an impact RB for the Sooners?
Depends on your definition of "impact." Is he ever going to be a 1,000-yard guy? Probably not. But he could become a valuable rotation guy in the backfield.
Do you pretty much count out the recruits that don't enroll early n take part in spring practices? I know the staff was high on gary simon but it seems like the staff already has a group together n he'll be to far behind.
No, I don't count those guys out at all. There have been several guys who haven't enrolled early and played a lot as true freshmen (Roy Finch comes to mind). Simon will get his chance. If he makes plays in two-a-days, he'll be on the field.
Does OU have a player on the team that could be as dangerous as Antonio Perkins used to be? They have been lacking in the Punt return area.
Cale Gundy said a couple of weeks ago that Kenny Stills, Roy Finch and Brennan Clay will be the ones rotating in at punt return. Sorry, I don't see an Antonio Perkins there.
How many walk ons made the squad this year? Any that you might have heard good things about?
That will be resolved in the fall.
Any noise around who the next Commish will be, and is there any fire to the smoke around the conference expanding again?
I haven't heard any new or definitive names. I think the Big 12 eventually expands out to 12, but who knows when that will be.
How do recruits that don't enroll early get caught up and earn starting spots? It would seem a bit unrealistic for a guy to come in and have the system down in a months worth of preseason practices and start.
Earning a starting spot right away is a lot to ask, but there have been numerous cases of guys playing right away as true freshmen, then working their way into starting spots.
Kameel Jackson started a couple of games last season, Trey Franks started four the year before that.
Any thoughts on the very high number of former Sooners who have had Season or Career ending injuries in the NFL. The list is very long, Sims, AD, Bradford, Gerald Mccoy, Malcolm Kelly
I have a lot of thoughts about it. At some point you have to question whether it's all just coincidence.
How much improvement should Sooners fans realistically expect to see in Landry Jones footwork after his work with "QB guru" George Whitfield?
Good question. I'll be sure to ask Landry about it next interview session. It definitely didn't hurt.
Thoughts on the body check foul against Blake Griffin last week, and the comments by some sports talking heads that Blake is "soft".
That body check would have taken anybody down.
The DT position is the one area I see we need big time improvement. Will McFarland finally live up to the Hype he had coming out of HS? Will somebody else step up?
McFarland could become a very serviceable player, but the window has closed on him becoming Gerald McCoy or Tommie Harris. Watch out for Jordan Phillips. His athleticism has generated some buzz so far this spring.
Who plays in the NCG next year, and is the SEC "favored" by pollsters?
I'll predict USC vs. the winner of the SEC.
Will Sherri Coale return OU to FF/NC contention sooner rather than later?
Coale was in the Final Four, what, two years ago? It's unrealistic to ask OU to be UConn. Coale will get there again, but it's not easy to do.
Off topic. Tiger is back. Your prediction on whether he wins a major this year?
I predict no.
The weakness seldom mentioned from Oklahoma's 2011 team was the inconsistent play of OU's interior defensive line. OSU scooped Walker and McGee like ice-cream. Can we expect more consistency from the DT spots this year? Does Wade figure to be in the rotation?
Wade has a chance, but I get the feeling he may redshirt. I don't see much change at DT from last year. It's the same guys as last year, and they are who they are.
How does Sunny Golloway continue to keep his job? Does he have something on Joe C.?
Assuming the 2010 CWS appearance has something to do with it.
How much do you think the coaches like the platoon system at running back that it seems they've been running the past couple of years or do you think they would prefer a more typical feature back akin to AP again?
I'm sure they would prefer to have an Adrian Peterson, but clearly when they don't this staff has leaned more on the RB by-committee going back to '06.
What's the deal with Gabe Lynn? Will Stoops be able to coach him up this year?
I don't know if you read my Keenan Clayton story, but he had something interesting things to say about it. It may be a year before we hear from Lynn again, but I wouldn't give up on him yet.
Who will finish second behind OU this year?
Assuming OU finishes first? I like West Virginia a lot this season, but I wouldn't count out OSU. They haven't had a bad season in a long time.
Last season, was Ryan Broyles really that good, or was the OU offense really that bad? Jones couldn't get anything going in the passing game.
Broyles was really that good, but Jones and Co. didn't respond well to not having him in the lineup, either. It was a fiasco.
Any insight on the tackle situation after some more spring practices? How has Lane Johnson acclimated to LT?
He seems to act like the transition has been seamless. Johnson basically told me that he's a more natural fit for LT, because it's a position that requires more athleticism than RT, which requires more power.
Can Hurst get to the point of being considered the best CB in the league? I think he played very well last year and should be in the discussion.
I agree 100 percent.
Will Mike Stoops be able to provide the coaching necessary for Gabe Lynn to finally live up to tremendous potential up and hype?
The biggest challenge for Stoops will be to get Lynn to believe in himself again. Lynn has talent, he just needs to get mentally right again.
Anyone else think that Broyles will be a more talented wes welker at the next level??
Broyles has a chance to be that kind of player, but I don't think you're giving Wes enough credit.
Hey Jake. Are you going to post the current Sooners' workout numbers?
I have already posted 40 times on our message board.
What differences beside probably blitzing more from the secondary, as opposed to linebacker, will we see with the OU defense now Stoops has taking over for Venables?
There won't be a great deal of difference, though the secondary schemes should be simplified.
Has the culture of the team changed since all of the "bad apples" have left the team? I.E. does Bob have more time to coach now...
You could see the culture was changing at the bowl game. It seems to have carried over into the winter and spring.
Is the spring game going to be aired at all? I was thinking it was last year. Can't Stoops see that not all of us can make it to the due to work of living out of state?
No, and he doesn't care.
Who is your pick for conference newcomer of the year?
I haven't had a chance to really go through it, but Gardner and Metoyer would have the best shots from OU.
Which road game will be tougher for the Sooners next year, TCU or WVU? Does recruiting in Texas make the TCU game more important regardless off the outcome of these two games?
West Virginia will be tougher. It's farther away, WV has a better homefield advatage and WV, frankly, will be better. Also, OU fans will be able to travel to the TCU game in droves. Stoops has said the TCU series will definitely help in recruiting the Metroplex.
Outside of my Tony Jefferson, do you see anybody from this team leaving for the draft early?
I could see Kenny Stills leaving, but I don't think he'll project high enough to be able to.
What is your record for the longest "Chat" you have had on ESPN.com?
59 minutes. We're at 58 now.
Will Clayton make a comeback with Bradford and the Rams?
I haven't heard anything about Mark lately. I'll try to find out.
Guys, that's all the time we have this week. Thanks for all the questions. If you didn't get your question in, feel free to hit up the SoonerNation mailbag. We'll do the chat again next week, same time, same place. Have a great week.
