We're going to make this fast and furious today because I have an appointment I gotta make this afternoon. So we have 45 minutes to talk about the Rangers, Mavs, Cowboys, the draft - yes, the draft - free agency and the NCAA tournament, where my beloved Buckeyes will try to win the whole thing. As Ian Mahninmi would say,"Let's Goooooooooo!!"
With the Cowboys seemingly trying to get younger on the offensive line, and releasing Kyle Kosier, how long do you think it will take this new looking line to gel together throughout the course of the season?
That's good question, but it's a hard one to answer because I'm not sure Phil Costa will be the starting guard. Let's say he is. I'd say the offensive line should be a proverbial well-oiled machine by mid-season, if not sooner . After all, they should have all of the minicamps, OTAs, training camp and preseason to find a rhythm
JJT, right now which seems more likely in your opinion? the drafting of DeCastro, Kirkpatrick, M.Ingram or Brockers? The only guy that I think could be a bust would be Brockers? Whaddaya think?
I haven't studied the draft at all. Most of y'all know I don't even look at the draft until April because I want to know all of the guys the Cowboys add in free agency and give all of the college teams a chance to have their pro days. That said, the Cowboys have added enough FAs that they should be able to take the best player on the board. I would probably go with Kirkpatrick because u can never have enough good cornerbacks. They still need a pass rusher, though. I don't know if u can find a stud pass-rusher at 14.
Where do you see the cowboys finishing in the nfc east? And how strong will the east be compared to the rest of the nfc?
dude, waaaaaaaay too early. We don't even know who's going to make the team or get hurt. Check back the last week in August.
I would like to hear you and Graziano have a long discussion about the taking away of Salary cap space from the Redskins and Cowboys...to me, this just shows how unethical all sides can be to give their team an edge or to hold another team down. I smell jealousy, collusion, pride, back-stabbing, you name it... try to surround yourself with the people in your life who follow both the written and unwritten rules, which would be hard to find among the 32 owners
it's dumb to think there's honor among thieves. The question is whether $10 million of cap space is worth risking the wrath of the commissioner or the other owners, resulting in no more Dallas Super Bowls in the foreseeable future. Or revealing all of the league's dirty little secrets, which winds up with some anti-trust legal issues down the road.
Is Adam Jones a possibility for the Rangers...I like him here
.280 with 25 homers and 83 RBI last season. He's making $6.15 million this season, but he'll be a FA at the end of the year - and he's going to demand a lot of money
When will the cowboys stop signing safeties to one year deals and sign a legit safety in the 1st round?
when there's a safety worth taking in the first round, when it's their time to draft.
JJT - Major League Soccer and the Dallas franchise are getting close to being 20 years old. The overwhelming interest in World Cup '10 proved that there are plenty of soccer fans nationwide and specifically in the metroplex. In many markets around the country, MLS is drawing more fans per game than the NBA, NHL and even MLB, but FC Dallas continues to lag in this department and in local media coverage. What do you think it will take for FC Dallas to be considered a major player on the local sports scene?
It ain't happening around here - not major player status. The Cowboys rule and the Mavs and Rangers are rapidly gaining ground. The Stars are more prominent than FC Dallas and they don't get much attention. MLS is a secondary league, if you compare to the premier league - and it gets treated as such
JJT... quick question about free agency. What would you think of a Deron Williams/ OJ Mayo backcourt for the Mavs?? Mavs should have enough cap room
i'm not a Mayo fan, so I wouldn't like it.
take away the rings, is tony romo as good of quarterback as troy aikman?
nope,but that's not a crime
Should there be concern about Joe Nathan? You have to wait and see how he performs in the regular season, but should we have complete faith in an old pitcher w/ past arm problems?
nope. It's spring training. He has a track record. Spring training game are even more worthless than preseason football games
If spencer couldnt perform in a contract year, why does dallas think he will perform making 8 mil next year?
I don't think they do. They just didn't have an adequate replacement. Maybe, they can find one next season
Your Thoughts on Marion barber retirement.......
Good player. Physical style made him a dynamic player for about 3 seasons. He was, essentially, a good dude. It never bothered me that he didn't talk to the media because he was consistent whether he had 3 TDs or fumbled 3 times. And if you talked to him about something other than football, he was open to it
Lamar Odom, genuinely nice & sensitive guy with a tortured soul or just a weak minded headcase who has mailed it in this season?
I like that. Both.
what were people thinking when they voted Dirk the most loved player in Dallas history...
that he led the Mavs to a title last year, that he was as clutch as clutch can be in the fourth quarter and that he's generally a nice guy
Can you see a Texas vs. USC national championship this year?
it's too early to be drinking, my friend. Get some help....lol
If the Cowboys were to select Kitzpatrick or janoris jenkins like some people have them drafting, do you believe this will be mike jenkins last season here?
they will never draft Jenkins. Too many off-the-field issues.
Do you think a team led by Dirk and Deron Williams is good enough to win a title? Even if they land Deron, they better surround them with good pieces which will be tough to do w/ the salary cap restraints.
dirk won it without another star, so I would figure 2 stars would make it easier. Donnie Nelson can find role players with the best of them. They will be contenders with Dirk and Deron.
I know it's early but from what you've seen and the people you have talked to, does Yu Darvish have what it takes to succeed with Rangers?
yes. I love his off-speed stuff because it moves fantastically - is that a word? His fastball command will come around with more use. He has "It" whatever that is, and he knows it. He faced considerably more pressure in Japan than anything he'll face here.
WIth Felix Jones in the last year of his contract, do you think it would be wise and to early in the draft to take a L. James from Oregon in the third round as a future change of pace runner?
Nope. You can find those guys every year. Plus, he ain't making any tackles on ST, which is what your third RB needs to do.
The harshest indictment I can think of regarding Lamar Odom's tenure with the Mavs is that he got a DNP-CD against the Spurs, and I didn't even notice. Any signs that this season won't end in an historic blaze of mediocrity?
They might win one series in the playoffs, but not two series. That's not bad for a give-up season.
Is Lamar Odom really confused as to why's he getting booed? When you contribute absolutely nothing, is he really surprised with fan dissatisfaction?
he says he is. I'll take him at how word
any news on DeMarco Murray's ankle?
Do you ever see the NCAA and NBA agreeing to raise the age limit for college basketball players entering the draft? The current system seems to be bad for both sides.
you left out one entity. It's not bad for the players. You can play pro baseball after high school and you can be a pro in tennis after high school. Hockey too. You should have the same right in hoops. If it doesn't work out, then so be it
Is it a possibility that Neftali Feliz opens the season in Triple A to get more starting experience? Things don't seem to be going his way to make the transition.
Nope. He had a stiff shoulder. Nothing about his performance suggests he's struggling. He's throwing his off-speed pitches with confidence. He made nearly 40 starts in the minors. This isn't foreign to him
You put up a question about DeMarco Murray's ankle but I didn't see an answer for it...any news on it??
so far, so good
How much authority does Jason Garrett have regarding player personnel? It seems the Cowboys are taking a step in the right direction, but I still think they are still feeling the after effects of the Roy Williams trade and and not landing any quality players from the 09 draft.
he has considerable authority. The Cowboys, for the most part, aren't adding any players that he doesn't want
hey, With RG3 coming to the nfc east, do you think passrush is even more of priority in the draft?
they need a better pass rush no matter who's playing Qb for the other teams. U can't win a title, if you can't rush the passer
what the likelihood that the cowboys appeal will be granted there favor?
it would seem hard to rule against them, but we say that when it comes to replay all the time
Any rumblings about S Yeremiah Bell, who was cut by Miami last week?
nope. They got their one-year safety in Brodney Poole
I am confused about why the Mavericks keep Odom and keep dumping Dr. W (Sean Williams) down to the d-league, and why Yi never gets played? Both of them are better than Odom. What do you think?
they're not better than Odom. They might be playing better, but they're not better. It's not even close
Will i make the Pro Bowl this Year?
i don't know. It depends on whether teams prefer to attack him Mike Jenkins
Would Patrick Crayton be a player the Cowboys could bring back as the 3rd wide receiver?
I wouldn't think so. Garrett isn't interested in dudes like Crayton who have an opinion.
I don't want to jinx it, but would you agree it seems almost gauranteed D-Will is a Mav for next year?
i wouldn't go that strong. Too much has to be decided.
MORE LIKELY FOR THE COWBOYS TO TRADE UP OR DOWN IN THIS YEARS 1ST ROUND?
down, which I would be against. Just pick the dude u want.
Heard you on ESPN Radio last night at 8:00p CT....what show were your on? It was through my ESPN Radio App so it didn't name what show it was.
espn dallas. 103.3
It seems like there competition at every interor position on the line but center. are the cowboys sold on costa or is it a sign that he ill be replaced?
they have to be able to upgrade to replace him. Can't do it just for doing it sakes.
Would Tony Romo win Superbowls with the teams of the 90's? And Aikman with the current group of players?
too hypothetical for me. Sorry.
I gotta run to an interview folks. Thanks for swinging through. If you have other questions, hit me on twitter at @JJT_ESPNDallas and i'll respond. Peace.
