What Up, What Up? Let's get this rolling along!
is rg3 more of mike vick or vince young type of player?
Not as elusive or explosive of a runner as Vick, but a FAR better passer. Great thrower, especially deep. I see very few similarities between RG3 and VY.
MW, do you think that KC could make a move to get QB Tannehill? Maybe a trade with Jacksonville if Cleveland passes.
Could happen and I do think JAX is a great candidate to trade down. If he falls to KC, I think they take him. But otherwise, I bet they are not aggressive to go get Tannehill.
Is tony romo an elite quarterback in your opinion?
No, but he is firmly in the next tier and a Top 10 NFL QB. The word Elite is sprinkled around in such discussions WAY too much.
How are the Saints spending all these money. I smell them being in huge cap trouble down the road.
I don't understand it either, but hey-they are getting it done. But how will they get Brees locked up? I know they have a few possible cuts (Vilma), but I have been shocked too.
Any reason at all for Browns' fans to be optimistic this year?
Not really. The draft sets up well for CLEV though. I have been projecting their first three picks to go: Richardson, Wright, Weeden...that is rather exciting, but again-speculation by me. Still, those first three picks are reason for optimism.
Matt, what do you think of the 49ers signing of Brandon Jacobs?
It tells me that SF isn't happy with Dixon. I like Hunter still quite a bit though. Can't say I have ever been much of a Jacobs fan though. Takes a while to get going. More of a flash runner now than a consistent force. Can picture him declining rapidly too....like M Barber did.
Matt, best reciever in the draft and why will he have the best NFL carrer?
It could end up being Floyd, Randle or Jeffrey, but I still have to put my $ on Blackmon. I don't see Blackmon ever being one of the Top 5 WRs or so, but I also don't see a lot of bust potential. Should be very solid, if not more.
Do you think Ridley/Vereen can carry the load for the Pats or do they reach out for another vet RB?
I bet they add another body there-someone cheap most likely. I am very high on Ridley though as an every down RB, but that isn't really BB's style.
Mdub, how can the Dolphins explain their trade of Brandon Marshall, if Philbin claimed that they are not in the total rebuilding process?
Not sure you can. I don't think they wanted to be in total rebuild mode, but to me-they would be smart to embrace the rebuilding process ASAP.
Why do you think LSU lineman dont live up to the hype coming out of school? Marcus spears, Glenn Dorsey, tyson Jackson, etc...
Don't have a great reason for it. I think, as many did, that Jackson was overdrafted-heavily. As for Dorsey, I LOVED him coming out of school. He started his career slow and then was pushed into a 3-4, where I think he needs to be a penetrating 3 Technique type in a 4-3. Weight has also been an issue for Dorsey.
What are your expectations for the pats this season
Great things, as usual. Gotta think they are the favorite in the AFC right now. Pass D has to be improved. And their O actually could be better, which is amazing. Plus, they have the draft and many picks to use, still around the corner.
Which team will have the number 1 pick in 2013?
Indy...they are terrible
There are reports that Alshon Jeffery ran in the 4.4s at his pro day. Does that solidify him as a 1st round pick
I saw that headline too. Tough call. Would say he is the 4th WR off the board. What would worry me though is what is his true size? He is lean now, and therefore fast. But if he gets back up near 240 a year from now, will he be able to separate?
Best first round option for the Bills: Reiff, Kuechly, Floyd, or Gilmore?
Or Tannehill? Just sayin'. Reiff fills the biggest need and OTs are obviously really tough to get a hold of, but he doesn't really excite me as a prospect. But I bet he is the pick. I would be very tempted by Floyd.
If the Dolphins go Tannehill, do you believe he will be in the competition with Garrard and Moore, or would they let him progress in the organization, so he isn't just thrown out there like Gabbert?
They should make him sit for his entire rookie year, but I can't say I trust that organization to do the right thing anymore.
who is the best draft choice for the chiefs this year?
Tough call. KC is in a GREAT spot, which is why I doubt they trade up. These names all make a lot of sense to me for KC: Tannehill, Poe, DeCastro, Keuchley
Expectations for GBay this year? The defense can't be any worse right
I would think not, but I am not sure where they got much better on that side of the ball thus far. Still, GB is stacked.
Over/under on # of games Tebow starts this season...2
What do you make of my Chargers? The y lost V-Jax but got Meechem and Royal and also got J. Johnson while resigning both O lineman Gaither and Hardwick. What else do the Chargers need to get back to contender status?
On O, I think RT is still a huge hole. One more OLineman in general would be fantastic. On D, I kinda like them at all levels, but don't see much star power. One difference maker-any where-could go a long ways. But I also think they could use reinforcements at all three D levels.
Who do you think the Bears are targeting at #19? Who should they be targeting at #19?
If I am CHI, I am picking the best DE or OL at 19 and then the opposite in the 2nd round. Simple as that.
Who will end up being the better quarterback, Tebow or Sanchez?
Can I pick Neither? Two of my least favs. But I guess Sanchez-better passer.
The Broncos thought a Dreesen/Tamme combo would be better than Dallas Clark..do you concur? Apparently Dallas' injury issues must be a concern?
Hard for me to comment on his injuries, but I bet that was a factor. Plus, age here was huge too. I like this better and I bet #18 loves Tamme. Also, they will play a ton of 2 TE sets.
I think the Cowboys gave themselves lots of either starters or depth at their "needs" positions. Does this mean they draft the best available the first few rounds?
Yeah, I think so-which is a great situation to be in. On O, I don't love the OGs they brought in. Would like to see them add a good interior OL prospect to the mix. On D, they could go any direction but ILB.
Will Buffalo finish ahead of the Jets?
Starting to think so...but ask me after the draft
New England going all defense with their 2 firsts?
You would think but I would be a fool to try to predict what NE will do on DDay. Plus, they have to trade one, right? That is what they do
When your weaknesses were chemistry and depth its always wise to spend draft picks and money on aquiring QB's to start controversy! Anyway, how do you see the Jets adding depth to their D, O line, WR?
I still see substantial holes in NYJ's roster and they just don't have the resources to fix/draft them all.
Do you think texans have the depth the counter losses on o-line?
Not enough. I see a step backwards from the best OL in the NFL from 2011.
Matt, Do you see PGH taking a CB in the first round due to W Gay's departure?
Prob not, unless Gilmore is there. But I bet they go CB in round 2 or 3. OG is their biggest need.
True or false: The Ravens will have the best group of corners in the NFL this season.
Wow. It is a good group for sure. Best? Dunno. Jets are still quite good there.
What do you think about the Brandon Lloyd and Stallworth signings by NE?
I believe that Lloyd is a great player. Great addition. Doubt Stallworth even makes the team.
will the the raven draft ray lewis replacement this year and if so whom?
Really aren't many big time ILBs in this draft and I doubt BALT goes that direction in round 1.
Who wins Rookie of the Year this year?
Come on Man! Let me see what teams these guys go to first!
With this draft being heavy in the WR and DB class if/when the Vikings take Kalil 1st does that give them the best chance to fill alot of needs thru draft?
I love Claiborne, but to me, taking Kalil at 3 is an easy decision. Firm up the OL. Give Ponder a better chance of success. Just gotta do it.
Is brandon carr the best corner on the cowboys?
Very good player, but didn't have to consistently go against the opponents' best WR in KC. Will he in Dallas? Not sure. Jenkins can be quite good, but inconsistent.
can quinton coples play in a 3-4?
Probably as a DE, but I think that is a bit of a waste of his talents.
Best off-season team so far with their FA signing? (Because we all know the best FA signings makes a superbowl team: Philly, Dallas, Was..... my sarcasm ends here).
Well...since you asked...can't help but tease this. I JUST sent in my write ups of all 32 teams off seasons to date with a letter grade for each. The AFC goes up tomorrow and the NFC on Friday.
Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year this year?
Maybe you are not paying attention...
Donnie Avery to the Colts,a good low risk signing? He has talent just can't stay on the field.
His speed fits their dome and he has to be to the point of his career where this is about his chance. So yes, excellent gamble.
Is Melvin Ingram a Top 10 pick?
I bet...maybe as early as with JAX
Would signing Manny Lawson really be THAT much of an improvement at ROLB for GB?
I think so, but it sounds like he is going back to CINN
Do you think the Colts fans will be patient with Luck? He is going to be on a really bad team.
Sure hope so. What choice do they have? And yes, that team will be awful.
Do you think with his first full offseason that dez bryant will take his game to the next level this year?
I would have thought it would have happened already by now. So who knows. But I am still a fan/believer. And yes, maybe the structure of an entire offseason will be very good for him.
Could you see the Jets taking Trent Richardson with their first round pick?
No chance he is there. Doubt he gets out of the Top 6. Total stud.
Suprised that the Saints could pay Bunkley that much...but he's a quality player and a big loss? Would the Broncos be smart to swap and take Abruyo Franklin? Or just hope Ty Warren can come back?
Bunkley is a big loss for sure and a great pickup for NO. Franklin would be fine, but I am surprised that they haven't already locked up M Thomas. I also expect DEN's first rounder to be a DT.
Does the signing of OL Swartze be a good fit Minny along side Kalil or Loadholt?
From Left to Right, I think Minny's OL goes: Kalil, Johnson, Sullivan, Schwartz, Loadholt....could be one of the better OLs in the NFL
What are your expectations for Prince Amukumara next season? Is the injury that he had last year something that will affect him his entire career?
Doubt that and he is a guy that an offseason could do wonders for. But I also think it was telling that they resigned T Thomas. I would bet they compete for a starting job in camp.
What do you think of the Ryans deal from a PHL perspective?
Works well. We know A Reid doesn't want to use a 1st rounder at LB-and there might not be a good candidate for their choice anyways. Ryans wasn't an every down LB with HOUS, but should be with PHIL...and he fits a 4-3 much better than a 3-4.
Can Donte Hightower play the middle in a 4-3? Might be an interesting option for the Bucs if he falls out of the first round.
Not a bad call by you.
Where do you see the rams targeting with their first and second round picks?
Well, they pretty much need EVERYthing but QB. At 6, I take Claiborne, Blackmon or Richardson...whoever falls. 2nd round-and every round after-Best Available. Don't even worry about what position.
Do you think Laurent Robinson will have sucess in Jax?
He's so fragile and that worries me extra now that he will be demanding much more attention as a focal point of an O.
As of now, what is Indy's bigger need, NT or CB?
Both are massive needs, as is WR, but I guess I go with NT
what do you think of sam bradford?
Big fan. Perfect storm last year for him-no mini camps to learn new O, injuries, AWFUL pass proection and very poor weapons
Niners have added some depth this offseason -- what do you see as their focus on the draft?
They are in a very good situation. If a DB falls, maybe they jump, but I still think OL is the spot that needs the most attention. A WR like Jeffrey also could be a nice fit.
Does the Colts saying D.Freney is staying mean we will see a slower transition into the 3-4 than most fans want?
Probably, but the Ravens certainly were not a strict 3-4, which is what IND is striving to be. I would guess that Freeney plays the Suggs role, but he isn't nearly as physical as Suggs-and the Ravens really didn't have a spot for two of those type of players-and obviously IND has Mathis
With a little bad luck can the Raiders be worse than the Colts?
Could happen. Same with CLEV and STL. Still the smart $ is on INDY to pick 1st overall.
How is creating a QB controversy in March helpful to a team with a questionable lockerroom and a QB with a fragile psyche?
Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I do know that NYJ needs to manufacture O as much as just about any team in the NFL and Tebow can help with that.
Earlier you stated that Floyd, Jeffrey, or Randall could be the best WR from this draft, while saying Blackmon is the safest. Are you essentially saying you think those 3 guys have higher ceilings than Blackmon?
No, but similar. Just saying if everything breaks right for one of those 3 that they could really have a great career.
Minnesota in their brutal division could also finish with the #1 pick right?
I guess. Could easily go 0-6 in their division. I think those others are a bit worse though.
Better year next year... Kolb or FLynn?
Flynn. I think he is the better player and in a better situation.
Has any team ever had the #1 pick in back to back years?
None come to mind. Anyone know?
When healthy, is Matt Schaub a top ten quarterback?
Would say just outside that. Could prob rattle off 10 guys that I prefer. Okay, let's do it: Rivers, Peyton (probably), Ben, Brady, Eli, Romo, Cutler, Rodgers, Stafford, Brees, Maybe Cam, Ryan
MW, braylon with andre johnson on the other side with that run game.......
Is Edwards healthy? If so, surprising that he hasn't been picked up. Guy can threaten a D when right.
Is 19 too high for Hightower and the Bears as the "future" MLB when Urlacher moves on?
To me, yes. Again, CHI is easy to me: DE and/or OL in top 2 rounds.
The Bengals had the #1 back-to-back in the 90s: Ki-Jana and Dan Wilkinson.
Nice work. Was thinking about TBay when they were an expansion team.
Buccaneers in 76 and 77.
Should the ravens draft Konz with their first pick or look to replace Ray Lewis/ Ed Reed?
I don't see a Safety replacement. Konz really looks like a Raven to me. Hightower might work as the new Ray, but I bet that is next year's project.
Really? Cutler better than Schaub?
No doubt in my mind. Cutler was fantastic this year.
How high are you on Mathews in SD now that he will get the complete lion's share of carries? Can he hold up?
LOVE his game, but really question his mental and physical ability to truly be a Bell Cow RB. Not sure what else to add to that.
Bucs again in 86 and 87...
MW, how good could the cowboys run game be with murray returning and them adding vickers, i think that is a big plus for them..........
I didn't think Fiametta was bad though-and Vickers is a bit overrated with his name recognition. But it should be a strong run game and I also still like Felix. OL should be better on the interior.
This just in: Jets sign Tommy Frazier...
...and Eric Crouch
i think you badly underrate Mark Sanchez if you have to think long and hard who is better between him and Tebow
I picked Sanchez!
Bold (or not so bold) prediction in 2012-13 - AJ Green finishes the year top 5 in receiving yards and TDs - you on board Dub?
Oh I am on board
With the Viks rebuilding could you see Jared Allen dealt on draft day to a team like NE?
Would have to get a LOT in return to deal Allen-and I think he is quite expensive. Doubt that happens.
Cedric Benson done?
Nah, but will be a backup somewhere and with his style, he needs to be a lead ball carrier.
Can you see the 49ers drafting coby fleener
Nah, they have two very good TEs. Walker is a quite a player. Obviously Harbaugh would love to add Fleener though I would think
Would DE Whitney Mercilus be there at 19 for the Bears and do you think he'd be good opposite Peppers with Izzy on only a 1 year deal to get his feet wet?
PERFECT guy for Bears and he would be my target player at 19
Best QB division in the league? Gotta be Nfc South, right?
Gotta agree with you. NFC East is strong. NFC North might be #1. Rodgers over Brees, Cutler over Ryan, Stafford over Freeman, Cam over Ponder...just one way to look at it
Any concern that these Alabama players like Hightower, Barron and Upshaw don't have much room for improvement?
Good point. When evaluating prospects, being highly coached up is both a good and bad thing
Again... Really? Schaub led passing in 2009, was in the top 10 in 2010 even when Arian had his breakout year, and was still in the top 10 before going down with injury. Cutler had 1 better year when he made the NFC Championship, but statistically, shouldn't Schaub be higher?
In my opinion, HOUS is a much better team with Cutler behind center instead of Schaub and CHI is a much worse team with Schaub behind center instead of Cutler. I really don't think Schaub would have been successful with the 2011 Bears team.
Okay everyone...I am out. Great stuff today as always
