How much of a impact do you feel Jason Tarver the New Defensive Coordinator Oakland Raiders is going to make?
I think Dennis Allen will make most of the impact this year. Tarver is a smart, young coach, but he is inexperienced as a DC.
Could you see the Broncos trading for a defensive tackle, similar to how the Eagles traded for Ryans from the Texans, especially since they have an extra fourth round pick?
Well, they traded for Bunkley during cmap last year, so sure, it's possible.
Is there any chance Poe falls to Denver in the draft? Or any chance they trade up?
I don't see him falling below the Chiefs at No. 11. if Denver wants him, they'll have to trade way for him.
i think D. Poe is a little overated, can you see the chiefs drafting any other defense lineman in the first round?
Cox, Brockers and Still are first-round talent, but No. 11 may be a bit high for those players.
Do really think that KC will draft a LB with the first round pick? KC had two pro bowl linebackers last season, wouldn't it be better to address an area which they aren't as strong at?
I think Kueckly would be second on their list to Poe. He would fit in the 3-4 defense.
I think Kueckly would be second on their list to Poe. He would fit in the 3-4 defense.
What can the raiders do before the draft that would benefit the team?
They can make a couple of depth moves, and maybe pickup a linebacker. They are reporteldy visting with Indy LB Phillip Wheeler.
What viable options do the Oakland Raiders still have at back-up quarter back in the free agency? Do they even sign a free agent quarter back? Or do they look in the draft or elevate Pryor?
Some of the backup Qbs available are Leinart, Dixon, Volek, Vince Young. I think they will worry about the spot later. Pryor does have a chance, I do believe. But he will need a good camp.
How does Matt Williamson assign a letter grade in Free Agency to a team that has no ability to sign anyone? Seems a bit nonsensical.
You are talking about?
do you think ricky stazi could star for the chiefs on opeing day.
Can you see the Chiefs making the playoffs this year?
Yes, very much so. They are are a strong team that is getting better. if the Chiefs stay helathy, watch out.
Hey Bill,How does Cendric Benson to the Raiders sound, and do you think they will go after him to back up McFadden?
I think he would be great. He will be fairly inexpensive. But the Raiders don't have much to spend. But I do like the fit.
What's Knowshown Moreno future looking like in Denver?
I think he will be a third-down back at best. I wouldn't be shocked if he's not on the roster at the start of the season.
Why is safety still a need in the draft? Carter looks great, Moore was a second round pick, and now they have Adams...
Moore has not be up to par. I think thye just wnated more depth.
What are the odds that the chargers make a run at Asante Samuel? How much would it take to get him?
I don't see it. The Chargers are happy, for now, with Jammer and Cason.
Are their any DT left in free agency for Denver or are they going to have to upgrade solely through the draft for the D Line?
There's a few DTs left, but the pickings are slim.
With the signing of Tamme and Dreessen, what does that mean for the progress of Julius Thomas? I thought the Broncos were really high on this guy.
They like Thomas. But he is a work in progress. I think he will continue to develop. But Manning needs some sure things now and Dreessen and Tamme fill thsoe roles.
If the Chargers have 1.5 million of cap space sitting in their back pocket at the end of this and the draft do you see them signing Bob Sanders to rotate with a rookie? Minimize getting hurt and mold young rookie.
I think that ship has sailed.
Do you assume the Broncos have at least inquired to see if Jonathon Stewart is available?
The word from Carolina is he is not available. I am sure John Fox would be interested in him, though.
What Chargers player do you see breaking out next year?
DE Corey Liuget. Good fit for new DC. Bad fit for the old DC.
Curve ball here, who do you have wining the NCAA tourney
Do you think J. Elway and company are rueing the Cutler trade that McDaniels pulled off?
Not anymore. They got their guy.
Are the Chargers ever going to come to the realization like everyone else, that Clary is a terrible RT? It seems this guy is terrible every year but have no intentions to replace him?
I think he may have one more year.
I keep reading the Chargers are looking at RB's like Jackie Battle etc. Is that really necessary? Cant they just draft a RB in the 3rd round or later instead of a veteran who is not very good.
I think they may need a vet because Mathews has not shown great durability.
Are there any Rbs that look like a good fit for Denver? I like the kid from Virginia Tech...
Him, the Boise back and the Miami kid all may be available when Denver picks at No. 55.
Asked you this in your mailbox but thought I should try here also. Any chance Denver trades for Asante and moves Champ to Safety? Immediately upgrades S without much decline in CB.
I don't think so. Maybe Champ goes to safety next year, but, for now, he is a CB. He is still playing at a high level.
Amobi Okoye to the Broncos? Seems like a low-risk/medium reward signing. Could Amobi help?
Would be low risk. He'd reunite with Elvis Dumervil, which could spark him.
Are there any FA's still available that can help a team out?
Sure, but, most of FA is over as far as impact players go.
Bill, any chance that the Chargers add Marcus McNeil back on the roster possibly at right tackle?
I don't see that one working out.
Every mock drfat I have seen has the Chargers taking the best pass rusher (Upshaw, Mercilus) or best guard (Decastro, Glenn) I would be happy with either Upshaw or Decastro but feel both will be gone. Why not Barron from Alabama, the Chargers have been looking for that kind of sefety ever since Harrison left.
Yes, Barron could be a real possibility if the top Pass-rushers are gone and Barron gets past the Jets at No. 16.
You seem to have chosen the Broncos or the Chiefs to win the division, What moves could the Chargers do so you would project them to be winners in the division?
Is Caleb Hanie really gong to be Peyton's backup? Don't they need someone with more experience? I don't like Billy Volek, why not Dennis Dixon?
It may be the case. They have also shown interest in Dixon to compete with Hanie. Thye also may bring in a youngster. But it seems like Hanie has the inside track. I'm with you. I'm not sold on Hanie. But the Broncos think he is a good fit for what they do.
If you were the K.C. O.C., and your QB was Cassell and you had Charles and Hillis, what is the percentages of pass given to pass, run? Even if QB is weakness, can you ignore Bowe, Breaston, Baldwin, Moeaki, Boss by not throwing much?
Got to throw with those weapons, but the pass will set up the run there. They have some horses. I'm telling you, don't sleep on that offense. It is strong.
Nobody is talking about the Chargers shortcomings on the D Line. Last year they were overpowered in many games and other than Liuget I have no idea who is going to start along the D-Line.
I don't think it has bene discounted. It is not a strogn group, but the team likes Liuget, Martin and Thomas.
How do you see Eddie Royal doing in SD? About the same as in Denver?
He'll be a more involved in the Chargers' plan that he was in the post-Shanahan Broncos. He is a rotational guy, but he will get his chances.
Phillip Rivers favorite receiver in 2012?
Will DHB make an even bigger jump this year after last year's improved play?
I'm interested to see if he can. I think he should be able to, but the new staff has to commit to him and not get discoruaged if he drops some passes.
Which QB would you most like Denver to draft in the later rounds?
Moore from Boise State might be an interesting project if you get him in the sixth round or so.
Brod Bunkley got a much bigger contract than I suspected he would..should the Broncos have matched if they were given the chance?
He only played 43 percent of the snaps last year, so that is a lot to pay for that type of player. But he is good.
SD has talked mentioned that they are looking at 4 running backs to back up Mathews. Other than Battle who visited, who do you think the other 3 backs are?
Here are some of the RBs still available: Cedric Benson, Ryan Grant, Joseph Adda.
The Chargers were the worst 3rd down defense I have ever seen last year and were obviously the worst in the NFL. That shows the pass rush and specifically the secondary is not very good. Any chance the Charghers take a safety like Barron or a CB like Kirkpatrick in the first round instead of a pass rusher or O lineman?
I think a pass-rusher and a saftey are the best bets. You are right. Their third-down defense was dreadful last year.
In regards to: How does Matt Williamson assign a letter grade in Free Agency to a team that has no ability to sign anyone? Seems a bit nonsensical. The Insider Piece that was referenced in the AFC West blog...
Gotcha, you tlaking about the Raiders? Well, he had to give them a grade and they lost a lot of people. Did you expect him to give them a free pass because they had less cap room than every else?
Does the signing of Porter mean Goodman is out?
At least as the starter.
Do you think the combo of Dreesen and Tamme is better than Dallas Clark? I can only assume that age and injury concerns bothered them...
Those are the reasons.
Would Melvin Ingram be a good fit for what the Chiefs do defensively?
Yes, but the Chiefs could use an inside backer more so than a pass rusher. But he would help for sure. I'm a fan.
Mike Wallace to Denver rumors officially dead?
Probaly because of money.
if the chargers have a meltdown at the beginning of the season and go 0-3 or 0 -4 would norv get fierd on the spot
There would certainly be a major clamoring for it.
Does Peyton Manning have the talent around him to get above .500?
Do you think the Chiefs would be tempted to take Trent Richardson if he is on the board at #11? I know they have some depth now with adding Hillis but a Richardson/Charles tandem would be tough to beat for a running team.
Tim Tebow was .500 last year, so ... Yes.
On Richardson: I know the Chiefs were connected to Richardson a lot, but those talks have slowed since Hillis was signed. But remember, Hillis is signed just for one year. But I think Richardson will be gone before the Chiefs pick at No. 11.
How close are the Chargers to re-signing Garay or Castillo?
They have offers out to both.
Hey Bill, what do you think the Chiefs will address through the draft as their most significant need?
The Raiders have any other contracts to redo or cuts to free up some more space?
McKenzie said they probably are done with the redos for this season. Rstructuring is risky, so you don't want to do too much or you are stuck with the same problem down the road.
Do you think the Raiders will restructure Tyvon Branch contract now since he has the franchise tag($6.4 this year)?
It would require an extension.
Hey Bill, what are the chances of Oakland landing London Fletcher?
Word is he wants to stay with the Redskins.
Thanks for not talking Peyton. Is that story old yet?
What are your expectations of the Chiefs second year guys, Baldwin, Hudson and Houston?
Major strides by all.
Great hour folks, talk to you next week.
