Chat with Bill Williamson

Fred (Knoxville, TN)

Are the Broncos solid enough at their wide outs or do they need to add another good route runner?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

They are pretty happy. A lot depends on Thomas and Decker taking the next step. They like Caldwell a lot as well. I could still see them taking a receiver fairly early in the draft and former Peyton Manning teammate Brandon Stokley is always a deep rotation possibility.

Jacob (Little Rock, AR)

Bill, Would you think Cousins or Weeden would be a better draft option for the Chiefs if they decide to get a QB in the draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I like them both. I think I'd give Cousins the edge since he is about seven years younger. But Weeden may be more NFL ready, but he will be 29 during the season.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

What are the chances Mark Barron makes it to pick 18, will they take him ahead of a pass rusher?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

They'd be prety good value at No. 18. I think he could be snagged in 14-16 range. But he'd definitely look good in a San Diego uniform.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

What's with all the returner signings for the chargers? Is more than one of these guys will make the team, does Richard Goodman have a lot to be concerned?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I'd be a little worried if I was Goodman. Royal will make the team. I think Parrish and Spurlock will be competing for the fifth WR spot.

monster_meck_77 (U.S. of A)

Are we really sticking with Caleb Hanie as our primary backup?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

They may look at another vet at seem point and they could draft a youngster early, but right now, Hanie has the inside track at being the backup.

Martin (Sweden)

Your thoughts of the latest 'depth' addition to the chargers WR/PR group? :)

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think it really runs four deep with Meachem, Floyd, Brown and Royal. If can they all stay healthy, I kind like the group. Rivers likes to spread the ball around.

Kevin (San Diego, CA)

Why would the Broncos not sign TE Dallas Clark?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Health and they have Tamme, Dreessen, Thomas and Green.

Brandon (Billings)

I dont think Pioli will take Tannehill, but since he is breaking out of his mold by drafting some risky players last year and making a big splash in FA this year. What reasons can you give me as to why he wouldn't trade up and Take Richardson or if he falls to 11 why draft Poe or Keuckly over him? Dont you just get excited just thinking of what him and Charles could do to defenses? Already having a strong "D" why wouldn't you go for another dynamic weapon on offense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I think defense will be the first priority in Lansas City the draft. They could use an impact player and they can get one at No. 11.

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Broncos quesitosn are dominating folks. Let's see some Raiders questions today.

Charlie (Denver)

Do you think Stephen Hill is worth Denver spending a 1st round draft pick on? He's tall, fast, and would allow Decker to stay in the slot where he is the most effective while also forcing teams to keep a safety deep freeing up Thomas across the middle

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Hill is a longshot, but he is someone to look at at.I think he will be on the Denver's list.

Rex Hughes (KC)

BW - Are the Chiefs giving up on Stanzi already? I don't get why the intense focus on drafting another rookie QB when Stanzi is there right now?? Baffling and perplexing. I don't want the Chiefs' brass to be looking at the available QB prospects and saying, "I got the first one. I got the first one."

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

We will find out after the draft, but it the fact that the Chiefs are visiting with so many rookie QBs may be an indication they don't think Stanzi can be a starter. If that's their thoughts, then they should look elsewhere.

Josh (N.C.)

Bill do you see any way Carson Palmer has a resurgent year, and puts up career numbers this year with a healthy Mcfadden????

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

To be honest, I'm not sure if we will ever see the Palmer of 2007. But I think he can be productive and yes, McFadden's health, is the key to the whole deal in Oakland.

Bryan Robbins (San Diego, Ca)

Is there pass rushers worth Chargers moving up?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Ingram and Upshaw. Ingram will go in 7-2 range and Upshaw will go in 13-16 range.

Josh (N.C.)

Bill is Darren Mcfadden's foot injury something that could easily be reaggrivated???

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

It was serious no doubt and it is soemthing to worry about. But he is making great progress and plenty of players have overcome the injury. So, I think he should be OK.

Steve (KCMO)

Do you like the Chiefs additions this season? I think they are finally ready to go to the playoffs and make a deep run. What are your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Yes, no doubt. I like that team a lot. if Cassel can take advantage of his weapons, the defnese takes the next step and the team continues to rally behind Crennel, I see a playoff team.

Nate (Denver)

Did the broncos miss the boat by not signing Bush or Tolbert

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

They'd be better if they had either, that's for sure. Let's see what they do in the draft.

Jeremy Michaud (new Britain ct )

What is the chargers plan at strong safety? I would love for them to trade up in the second round to get Harrison smith..but wut do you think their plan is??

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I think you have nailed their ultimate wish plan.

Jason (Sedalia, MO)

Why all the concerns with KC drafting Poe, all of a sudden. Early sounded like he was their man.

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

It's all part of the draft process. It's too long. We all have too much time to find blemishes on all of these guys. I mean does Andrew Luck really need to be picked apart. Come on, he's a the surest of things, but people have too much time to look for problems with these prospects.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

What can we expect from new DC John Pagano for the chargers, clearly the soft zones and 4 man rushes of Manusky didn't work?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

We will see aggression and a big emphasis on becoming better on third down. The Chargers were the worst team in the NFL in 2011 on third down.

Will (Kansas City, MO)

Which position would be wisest for KC to fill 1st, and who if available would fill it, in their 1st round 11th pick.

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I like Poe, Kueckly, DeCastro.

Chris (Fargo ND)

Hey Bill, do you see Wheeler making an impact in Oakland? Wimbley is a better pass rusher but if you take away his 4 sack game he really didn't have much of an impact in the sack department. Can Wheeler provide that same impact?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

Wheeer has said he looks forward to having a chance to rush the passer more, but he does not have Wimbley's pass-rushing ability. Wheeler will make more of an impact as a run stuffer, which is huge.

Vincent (Los Angeles, CA)

With Peyton Manning going Denver, do you think the Chargers MUST take a pass rusher in the first round? The Chargers seem to have his number, and that's due to great pass rushing against him in the past.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Manning or no Manning, the Chargers need another pass-rusher. it's their biggest need.

Mark (Toronto)

Raiders opening day RT: Barksdale or Barnes?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Right now, I'd say Barnes. he wa sapid to start.

Donald (Fredericksburg, VA)

Any word on JC, EB, TM and there recovery?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

They are all making strides and are expected to be ready for the season.

Willie (Frederick, CO)

What's the word with Marcus Thomas and being back with Broncos? Also do they have a shot with Amobe Okoye?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

They have interest in both. Thomas has been on the market for a while. If he was going to leave, I'd think he would have left already.

Donald (Fredericksburg, VA)

What would DeCastro mean to the Chiefs? If the Chiefs draft him would they have the best o-line in the NFL?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

It's be a high-level unit, no doubt.

Ryan Matthews (SD)

am I a better RB than Trent Richardson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Go prove it.

Alex (AZ)

Why is ther no takl of the Chargers talking a defensive back with their 1st pick? Unless Ingram or Upshaw are available which is doubtfull wouldn't Mercilus Perry be reaches? The Chargers secondary was awful last year and if a guy like Kirkpatrick or Barron are available I would love to see te Chargers go that route.

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think most of the talk has ben focused on Barron. Perhaps they will pull a surprise and take Kirkpatrick.

Bryan Robbins (San Diego, Ca)

Kinda seems Chargers are content in picking up a RB in draft as they haven't signed a RB to backup Mathews even with his injury history no?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Rhat's what it looks like. In his mock draft Wednesday, Mel Kiper had them taking Boise State's Doug Martin at No. 49. They have other needs, though.

ricardo. Texas [via mobile]

With the signing of castillo do chargers still draft a defensive luineman in first rd if not the who or what position

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Probably not.

Mike Stull (lewisburg,wva)

What do you think the Raiders do with their #3 pick in the draft,CB,NT,LB or other?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

LB and CB first.

Ryan (Missoula,MT)

Do you see Oak adding another TE or are we hoping that our young guys can be productive?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

I think they need one, yes. I can see maybe a cheap vet being picked up at some point, maybe after cuts are made in September.

Kevin (San Diego, CA)

Seems like a lot of players are uber excited about the new NFL uniforms. Is this just leaguewide PR or are the uniforms that different?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

The fabric of the jersey for most teams is diffrent. The Raiders are one of five teams not to make any changes.

dre (oakland, ca)

what is the honest word around the league on the raiders WR core. just speed guys or playmakers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Well, they are speed guys who have shown they are playmakers. They are young and green,. but they have a shot at being very good.

CT Construction [via mobile]

Sup Bill? Can u give us an update on Marcus Trufant and his remaining coverage skills. I'm hoping "Big Reg" McKenzie takes a flier on him in Oakland.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

He is just a guy at this point. Older and injury prone.

Kevin (San Diego, CA)

When is Shannon Sharpe's No. 84 going to be retired?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

The Broncos don;t like rtiring too many jersyes, that's why they put players in their ring of honor and Sharpe has gotten that honor.

Mike(Antioch) [via mobile]

Will the raiders trade up for a CB or stay where they at and take the best defense player on the board

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I could see them trading up to maybe 60-70, but I don't see a huge trade up. 45 tops, I'd think.

Don (San Jose) [via mobile]

Give me one reason to be excited about the Raiders draft besides thanking Nnamdi for the third round pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Because five picks is better than two picks.

Mike (PA)

Do you see a team like the Broncos making a play at Mike Wallace (or any team for that matter) this year or next or do you think he will remain a Steeler for the next few years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

It doesn't look like that will happen.

Craig (Idaho)

How much of an impact do you think Dennis Allen will have on the Oakland's defense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Strong. He is aggresive and smart.

RJ Rimando (San Jose, CA)

Do you think the Raiders should sign T.O? he's a Big Possession Vet WR who could help out the Young WR's and has played with Palmer. & can get him at a cheap price

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I'd stay away from T.O. I wnat to see the Riaders' young guys develop.

Maximus (SD)

Everyone keeps talkng about OLB or O lineman for the Chargers at #18 but what about a guy like Hightower. The Chargers have desperately needed that thumping MLB since Seau and Foley.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

They like their ILBs but maybe if they went down to No. 22 or 23 that would be possile.

gator (dallas)

is there any chance we could see 3 afc west teams in the playoffs

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Maybe two, it's a pretty good conference, Gator.

Austin (homertown)

Hey Bill am I crazy to think that Ryan Mathews with another year under his belt, A full training camp and a true FB blocking for him that he makes the jump to elite this year? Last year with no offseason and a line in shambles he was 10th in league in yards and he really came on late last year..

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

As long as he stays healthy, I expect a good year.

Brad (CO)

Do you think if Manning is healthy DT and Decker can become Pro Bowl receivers? They looked pretty good last year considering Tebow's inaccuracy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I think Thomas has a chance to be elite soon. He has major skills. He should have done backflips when Manning signed in Denver. He is the player most positivley affected by the Manning addition.

Leland (Denver City, TX)

your AJ Smith. Are you willing to give up some picks probably this and next year to move up to get one of the ELITE pass rushers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Well, considering I'd probably be fired at the end of the year if I don't make the playoffs, sure I'd risk the future.

Devin (Michigan)

Bill, Do Denver take Nick Fairley in a trade from the Lions for a draft pick? and if so, which round

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

It's interesting. Denver liked him last year. Probably a conditional 1 or 2 in 2013.

Josh (N.C.)

Bill do you think this is a make or break year Rolando Mcclain????

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Kind of, yes. The new coaching staff will give him a chance, but if he fails, he could be in trouble.

Knowshown Moreno (Denver, CO)

Am I going to be on Denver's roster week 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Ask me after the draft.

Fred (NEPA)

Which division will have more wins this season, AFC West or NFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I'd stick in the home division for that one.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Hi Bill, what is the opinion of the chargers OLine? Was the last 5 games a mirage or a realistic expectation for the group?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think Gaither is a key. If he plays well, so will the unit as a whole.

Lars (Kansas City)

Its not really talked about but i can see Fletcher Cox DE with the 11th pick of the draft for KC

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

That may be a little high for him. The Chiefs could move back a few spots to get him.

K-Derp ([via mobile, alabama])

Hey B-Derp....what are the odds of Cassel returning to his 2010 form?

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

He has a chance, just look at his weapons.

Afc west bloggers (CA)

Hey Bill me and some fellow bloggers here have a madden league and the password is B.W.SUCKS how does this make you feel?

Bill Williamson
  (3:03 PM)

Have fun. Is that supposed to hurt my feelings? i'm not 12. But thanks of thinking of me, cool daddy.

johnny (los angeles)

If the Raiders go 3-4, do you see them trading anyone on the dline like Kelly or Houston? And what are their trade value?

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

I think they'd both be given a chance to adjust to the 3-4 if that is the case.

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

Great hour, thanks folks. Talk to you in two weeks. Out next week.
