Chat with Pierre LeBrun

Pierre LeBrun
  (11:59 AM)

Greetings from beautiful San Jose, Calif., let's get it on!

Brendan Shanahan (Under The Desk)

Do you think if Chicago gets past Pheonix Should I be worried about my safety at United Center in the next round? I will not be watching game 3 because they will probably chant my name all night. Can I stay with you?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:00 PM)

Just come down hard on Torres and all will be forgiven :)

Alex (dc)

What do you think of the nhl discipline being handed out I think Campbell did a better job then the current 1 is Nick Backstrom of the caps gets a 1 game suspension and Lucic of the Bruins who was going after caps players gets nothing

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:02 PM)

It's an incredibly tough job. Impossible to please everyone. Interesting how people used to hammer Collie Campbell for the way he meted out justice and now people realize he didn't do such a bad job... Really hard job. I think Shanny did ok with last night's suspensions (Neal, Asham) but I didn't like that Weber didn't get anything for his mash job on Zetterberg

Nathan (Missouri)

Do you think the Blues will be able to finish off the Sharks?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:03 PM)

I think the Sharks because of their playoff experience can still stretch this out but I've seen enough now to think the Blues will win this series. And I had picked the Sharks to upset them in 7. But having watched 3 games, changing my mind now

Drew (Sf)

Pierre,What's your take on Backstrom? Seems hard to believe that he had an intent to injure. Looked more like Peverly led to the contact going that high. That was the explaination that seemed to come from the Caps. Esp when they take the word of a guy who has 2 warnings, 1 fine, 1 suspension and performed the same act 40 seconds later. Seems like quite an inconsistency between the two in the same day. This has Weber written all over it doesn't it? (yeah I tried to sneak in 2 questions) Thanks!

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:03 PM)

I'm ok with the one game

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Did you think that Rangers Carl Hagelin deserves a 3-Game Suspension?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:04 PM)

yes. Blatant elbow to the head. That's what we're trying to take out of the game. Dangerous play.

Jim (Chicago (of Course))

Last night...Hossa...this has GOT to stop.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:04 PM)

You saw my column from Sunday night. What else can I say

mikey (allentown, pa)

Hey Pierre,I'm hoping the Flyers sweep tonight..but I'm worried about the possibility of a long lay off. Most of the other series are 2-1 and all have game 7 possibilities...i know rest is good..but could this hurt them as well?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:05 PM)

Don't get greedy and start worrying about layoffs. You still need a fourth win over Pitt first.

Lawrence (Toronto, Canada)

With Florida's comeback last night; are the Panthers for real or is New Jersey breaking down?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:05 PM)

That baby is going 7. Both teams are flawed

Larry (Meaford, Canada)

If the Oilers were to trade the 1st overall pick, who would be most interested?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:06 PM)

Tough to say at this point, got to have the playoffs play out first to see overall needs of teams, etc.

John (Boston)

Hey Pierre, first off, I just want to say that I'm glad to see that Hossa left the hospital. I was wondering how long you think the suspension to Torres will be. In my eyes it has to be longer than the one doled out to Cooke last year. He has every bit the checkered history as Cooke did, and this hit was worse than what Cooke did to get his 10 + first round. Torres clearly is a guy that just doesn't 'get it', and deserves a long break from action.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:07 PM)

Hard to predict but I'm guessing it' going to be the longest handed out in these playoffs.

Kendall (Brentwood, TN)

After 4 games, what are your thoughts on the Preds? Are they for real?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:08 PM)

Well before the playoffs I picked them to come out of the West and go to the Cup finals ... so yes, I figured they were for real !

Matthew (Alexandria, VA)

Shanahan indeed has a thankless job. But good luck to anyone trying to discipline the nonsense going on this year. Not giving Weber the mandatory 1 game was a mistake, and fuel on the fire. But I do not believe it was the spark. I believe the mayhem going on in the playoffs this year is a direct result of the Bruins cup run last year. They out-toughed everyone they faced last year, and the hockey world took notice. Nobody is backing down or skating away from anything. Nobody is saying this is the playoffs we need to buckle down and play our game and score some goals. It is all about intimidation and showing the guys on the other bench they are in for a battle, and may the "Tougher" team win.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:08 PM)

interesting point and well-thought out

Sergei (Badger State)

Pierre, first off, please accept my sincere appology about not wishing you a happy b-day, I didn't know. Please don't ask Burnside to relay your messages to me anymore 'cause we don't get along.....I'm curious, what's poutine and why does it get your attention?....Now, to business. I'm affraid this may be the last time you hear from me this year because the Wings are on the brink. How can they be so unlucky? Why are all the bounces go Nashville's way? Say what you will about the series, but they've been completely dominated by Detroit. Yes, Rinne made his saves, but that wouldn't have mattered had Detroit been able to put away just ONE-THIRD of all the pucks that rolled off their sticks, all the goal posts they hit, all the wide-open nets they missed. Nashville should be down 1-3 in this series because the only game they deserved to win was the one they actually lost. Go, figure....and what the f**k was the disgusting play by Lidstrom, Fillpula, White, and Howard that essentially cost us the game? Where was Howard going? WHAT HAPPENED there? That was not a golden puck with diamonds in it, so, why the four of the were chasing it?!!!! I swear if I run into someone with a Preds jersey, I'll pull a Kocur on him, I'm that frustrated. I can take losing when the other team is better, but this circus has made me sick to my stomach. The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that we can win three straight, just like last year and I'm keeping my faith.....All the questions I asked were not retorhical, so, please indulge me and answer them. Merci.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:10 PM)

Wings indeed deserve a better fate. But they're in a very even matchup with the Preds. Two great Cup contending teams meeting in first round (thank you divisional seeds system). Wings have nothing to hang their head about. And it's not over yet, either. You saw what happened vs. San Jose las tear when down 3-0...

Alex (Anaheim)

Where did this Brian Boyle come from? I know he scored 20 last year, but that seemed a distant memory most of this campaign.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:11 PM)

One of the turning point in his career is that a few years ago he took power skating lessons from a former Canadian figure skating star. It improved his skating and speed big time

Mike (Struggling Canadiens Fan)

Hi Pierre - what's the latest on the Habs GM search?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:11 PM)

sorry haven' thad time to make calls on this my friend. Got my hands full with Blues-Sharks series !

Matt (Cube)

Shea Weber did not get suspended...he grabbed someone's head and pushed it into the glass...How can that be justified?(lack of suspension)

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:12 PM)

It can't.

Timmy G. (Clovis, CA)

Hey Pierre, Awesome playoffs so far-minus the terrible officiating and hits to the head. I love seeing teams like Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Vancouver already facing elimination. That's just crazy for a first round. Question, now that you've seen the Sharks and Blues series through the first 3 games, is there really a chance the Sharks pull this off? If they do they have a serious chance with the others I mentioned possibly being bounced. I really don't see the Sharks winning, but I really do hope that means they retool that team and blow up the core and keep guys like Pavelski, Couture, and Burns to build around. Marleau and Boyle (love him, but this is the last time to get good value for him in a retooling).

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:12 PM)

Marleau has been really disappointing so far

Bill (Pasadena,CA)

Hi Pierre, As me and my broom head off to Staples tonight, I was just wondering what your impressions of the Kings-Canucks series have been? Thanks!

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:13 PM)

DUSTIN BROWN !!!!Amazing they thought about trading him before the deadline. Best trades you never make...

Vince (Chicago)

This isn't the sport that I remember loving as a kid. What is happening in today's NHL that these players are taking potentially career-ending runs at each other? Gretzkey wouldn't have lasted a season in today's NHL. What gives?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:14 PM)

Lack of respect for each other

Jason (Detroit)

Hey LeBrun, quick question. Why is it only one person (Shanahan) who decides on the suspensions? Why not have a vote from a few people instead?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:14 PM)

NHLPA will be pushing for change in this system in CBA talks this summer

Andy (Lynchburg, VA)

Pierre,I know you don't like to get caught up in bashing the officiating, but isn't it about time the NHL took a harder stand on officials that completely BOTCH calls such as Hossa's last night. How can the refs say they didn't see the call when a linesman is right there? I know linesmen can't call penalties themselves but ANY good officiating crew would have/should have taken time while Hossa was down to discuss what had happened to to levy the appropriate calls and they did not.Not only was Torres allowed to continue to play, the Hawks came out shorthanded! The no-call on what should have been a major dramatically affected the game IMO. Personally I think they should be "benched" as long as Torres is for missing the call.Thoughts?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:16 PM)

Believe me, the league watches this and it affects future playoff assignments as the games dwindle in future rounds

Chris (Washington, DC)

It appears that John Erskine will get a sweater for the Caps tomorrow night, as will Knuble. Two questions: 1) how badly will Lucic get smoked if he and Big John fight again (last time Milan got beat pretty bad), and 2) if the Caps don't engage the B's in anything after the whistle, will they still get called for phantom unsportsmanlike/other penalties like the last game (see: Lucic/Laich)?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:17 PM)

It's only 2-1 in the series. I would focus on hockey if I were the Caps

Dick (Horseman)

What can the league do to prevent a potential game 4 series ending win by the Flyers into a retaliatory bloodbath?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:17 PM)

Refs need to call EVERYTHING early to set the tone

Jonathan (Denver)

I'm curious as to what your take is on the Flyers. Lost among the pathetic antics in the series is the fact that neither team is playing defense and while Fleury is rightfully taking heat for a subpar performance, Bryzgalov has been only slightly better. Is Philly a legitimate threat, or if/when they face a disciplined team who plays defense will they be exposed?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:18 PM)

As an NHL GM told me yesterday, ''Lost in the Flyers maybe sweeping the Penguins is that they still don't have any goaltending."Can Bryz straighten out his game int he second round?

Chris (Washington, DC)

51.3 Match Penalty - If, in the judgment of the Referee, a goalkeeper uses his blocking glove to punch an opponent in the head or face in an attempt to or to deliberately injure an opponent, a match penalty must be assessed.Game 1: Tim Thomas blatantly punches Nicklas Backstrom in the face with his blocking glove, yet no penalty is called. Care to comment on the double-standard in the B's-Caps series, or is it OK since Tim Thomas is a Vezina/Conn Smythe winner?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:19 PM)

I have to be honest Chris, Im in San Jose so it's been hard to catch everything happening on East coast... I saw bits of pieces of Caps game the other day but not all of it, and not the incident you're talking about

Vinnie (San Jose)

Hi Pierre, Hope you are enjoying the Spring weather here in San Jose. Do you feel you have to step up your sartorial game when you're rolling with Ratto and Remenda? Why is the Sharks' penalty kill so bad? Did Wilson really think the team could make a run in the playoffs with the worst P.K.? Have you seen Patrick Marleau lately? Is he still playing hockey? Cheers!

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:20 PM)

Love San Jose. Love this town !!!!!Ratto is the king. Funniest guy in the business. He's a good friend. Drew is a pro, .he'sa terrific analyst.Well Wilson acquired Moore, Winnik and Galiardi I think to help PK but it hasn't helped at all. Marleau? Oye.

Mike (SJ)

Will the Sharks penalty kill fail cost McLellan his job? They've been awful all season, and when the chips are down and it matters most, they got worse.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:21 PM)

Hope not, Todd is a great, great, coach.

Josh S. (Philly)

Should the Flyers be worried about Bryzgalov?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:21 PM)

Da

Josh S. (Philly)

Where do you rank Claude Giroux in your player rankings?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:23 PM)

right now? No. 1. He's the most dynamic player in the playoffs at this point. And I'm not saying that because we're from the same hometown :)

Andrew (Chicago)

Obviously Torres' hit last night on Hossa was bad, and given how crazy the penalties and questionably dirty plays that have happened during the playoffs, do you think Shanahan will send a message to all of the teams and players in the form of a lengthy suspension to Torres (in other words, if this type of play continues, Shanahan will start with even lengthier suspensions than before and will be more strict)?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:23 PM)

yes

Mike (SJ)

A month ago in chat I said the Sharks were done, and asked who you thought fans of teams who were out of the playoffs should cheer for the rest of the season. You told me to chill, the Sharks could rebound and still get in. While you were technically right, the Sharks did make the playoffs and even won game 1, after watching part of game 3 (I turned off the game at 3-1), we're back to my original question, what team should fans get behind now that their team is out of the playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:24 PM)

The PREDS.

Kent (Sweden)

In my opinion the non call on Weber for his helmet cracking of Zetterberg is one major reason for all the dirty hits, what do you think? Also its funny to hear Marchand complain about Washington when I recall his numerous jabs at Sedin last year, is Marchand a cry baby when he is on the other side?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:24 PM)

yes, agreed

John (NJ)

Do you anticipate the media stepping off it's "we know what's best for hockey" soap box anytime soon? Ratings up. Fans enjoy the on ice product. Isn't that the true measure of the game? Every morning I wake up to read story after story about how violent the game is. Don't you think people like the game BECAUSE it's violent? The ratings sure seem to imply as much.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:25 PM)

If I settled for just agreeing with fans on everything, I'd become one and would lose my job as a journalist. My job is to give objective analysis of what's going on. Not to be a fan.

Jamal (Orlando)

whats your take on vancouver and the kings and how do you explain whats happening

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:26 PM)

JONATHAN QUICK is happening

Bryan (DC)

Can NYR's defense hold up for the entire playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:26 PM)

I think so

Matthew (Columbia NJ)

Pierre: Do you expect a physical, wild game tonight between the Flyers and Pens or will things settle down?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:26 PM)

a bit of both

Thomas Edward Yorke (Mexico City)

Good morning Pierre. Out of all of the teams still playing, which team looks the strongest to you at the moment?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:27 PM)

The Preds

Daniel (Brampton)

I find it upsetting that the fantastic hockey being played during thse playoffs are being overshadowed by the scrutiny of Sidney Crosby and the constant illegal hits being thrown. No one's talking about the great play of Pekka Rinne and Jonathon Quick, or the leadership of Dustin Brown.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:28 PM)

I am !

Tod (Detroit)

First off...I have to ask, is Rinne human? If not for him, I would think that the series would easily be 3-1 Detroit. He's been phenomenal for the Preds so far, and unless the Wings are able to crack him, it looks like our season will be done Friday :( That said though, I can't seem to figure out the Wings' issues lately. Guys like Franzen play the big game you know they're capable of in Game 3 (aside from the two penalties), yet he all but disappears in Game 4. Filppula and Hudler, after a great regular season, have yet to elevate their game in the playoffs overall. It's tough watching one team out play another for the duration of a game, and still not earn the W. Guess that's what makes playoff hockey so great though

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:29 PM)

Patrick Roy and the Habs. Dominik Hasek and the Sabres.Great goalies steal series

scott canfield (buffalo, ny)

With St. Louis getting the shutout the other night against San Jose, and both Halak and Elliott playing that game - who gets credit with the win, and who gets credit for the shutout? Thanks

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:31 PM)

Halak got credit for the win because his team was ahead when he left.

Alex (Brooklyn)

Hey Pierre, which is more ridiculous? Shaw getting 3 games, or Lucic getting none at the beginning of the season? Or do you think these two 'plays' aren't comparable?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:32 PM)

Alex, that's just the point. After the Lucic/Miller incident, the GMs meeting in Toronto was held and GMs told SHanny next time a goalie gets hit like that, hammer him hard. SO he did with Shaw.

Neil (Edmonton)

Hey Pierre,I've a big fan of the Sharks for the past several seasons, which have all ultimately seen this squad fall short of expectations. Is it just me or does Patrick Marleau seem to be the common denominator in every post-season flameout? Unlike Joe Thornton, he doesn't play with the fire or intensity you would expect from one of the team's leaders. Should the Sharks lose in the first round, don't you think it's time that Doug Wilson parted with the longest-serving Shark?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:32 PM)

I think you answered your own question there

Matt (Sterling Heights, MI)

So Pierre, does home ice mean ANYTHING the rest of the playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:33 PM)

Only in Game 7 in my opinion

seasonticketlover (L.A.)

Pierre,Are you changing any of your predictions about who would win the East, West or Stanley Cup at this point in the playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:33 PM)

I picked Nashville to come out of the West before the playoffs. I'll stick with that

Ken (Elkhorn, NE)

Are the Wings taking quality shots or is Pekka Rinne just that good? Or a little of both? And can Detroit somehow take it to Game 6?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:34 PM)

He's that good

Jason (Kalamazoo)

what do you think about all the road teams winning during these playoffs

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:35 PM)

PARITY

Nikki (College Station, TX)

So amidst a first round that is featuring deliberate slew-foots and sucker punches from the Blues, careless elbows from the Sharks, head slamming from the Red Wings, ugly hits from both the Blackhawks and Coyotes, and classless antics from the Penguins (did I miss anything?), television ratings are way up. I feel like they would have been up regardless of the antics that have been occurring. Now that hockey is actually somewhat in the spotlight and loads of people are watching, is there a chance that the ugly stuff could harm ratings going into next year because people are getting turned off?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:36 PM)

don't think so. If that were the case, how would UFC be so popular?

David (San Jose)

Hey Pierre, you should go eat at original joes or henry's hi life. Great eats

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:36 PM)

yes I've been to both many many times. Yummy

Mike (San Diego)

What's the difference between Torres' hit last night and about 75% of the hits that Scott Stevens used to deliver? Is the league just becoming more sensitive to hits to the head? That was a shoulder check and something that wouldn't have been a point of discussion 10-15 years ago.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:37 PM)

But that's just the point. League ignored head shots 10-15 years ago. Now they're on it

Daniel (Brampton)

I think the phenomenal goaltending from Rinne, Quick and Lundqvist has proven they are the best goaltenders in the NHL. Who do you think has been the most impressive in the playoffs so far?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:37 PM)

Rinne/Quick tie

Rob (Westbank BC Canada)

Good morning Pierre, with 2 CHL series going to game 7 after 3-0 series leads, one that ended last night with Patrick Roy blowing it and tonight Kamloops blazers try to break WinterHawks hearts do you see the 2 NHL teams in the hole tonight doing the same

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:38 PM)

I will say this, after Flyers did it on Boston a few years ago, because of the parity int he NHL, it's going to happen more than before

Ian (Canada)

Hi Pierre. Enjoy your work on TSN these days. What's your take on the flurry of suspensions so far in the playoffs? Also, Quennville's comments will surely result in a fine, but what other avenue does a coach have?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:39 PM)

Thanks Ian.Can't blame Coach Q. That was a brutal missed call on the ice

Bob (NY)

Another aspect of this is the fines. What is $2,500 to Shea Weber? A shift? Come on, if you're not going to sit him, make him pay a legitimate monetary fine. He gets $2,500, but Tortorella gets hit $20,000 for calling Pittsburgh whiners?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:41 PM)

Bob, as per current terms of the CBA, a player cannot be fined more than $2,500 for supplemental discipline.I'm guessing the league will push for more in CBA talks this summer

Suzanne (Nashville)

My Preds aren't playing anywhere close to their potential, and Rinne is continually saving us, but we still keep winning..can we actually close out this series friday at home?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:42 PM)

yes

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:42 PM)

yes

James (St. Louis)

Pierre what are the possible match ups for the second round of the playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:43 PM)

If Blues finish out the Sharks, they'll play the Kings (No. 2 seed vs. No. 8) regardless of what happens between Phoenix and Chicago and between Nashville and Detroit. That is if the Kings also finish off the Canucks

Bill (Philly)

I had Preds/Rangers cup....with Preds winning. Lookin ok so far, eh?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:44 PM)

yessir

Mike (MN)

Really enjoyed your recent article on Parity in the NHL...couldn't agree more and I think it's great for the game. I'm usually not one to complain one way or the other about Refs, but are they partially to blame for letting some of the games getting out of control and leading to so many suspensions/injuries? How Torres wasn't given a Charging Penalty at minimum just baffles me (never even attempted to slow down), but besides the obvious I feel like there has been an awful lot of Cross Checking and Sleu Footing that is typically called in the Regular Season going unnoticed in the Playoffs. The players are emotional and charged up enough as it is, but when so many of these plays go unpunished the game is almost guaranteed to get ugly. I don't like callling a lot of penalities and slowing down the game (especially in the playoffs), but at the same time the refs need to maintain some type of control. If not, we are just seeing the beginning of the injuries/suspensions to come.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:45 PM)

Thanks Mike, and yes, agreed on your refs comment

Mike (DC)

Can a player that is suspended in the postseason have an appeal of the suspension?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:46 PM)

yes, but Bettman hears the appeal so players don't bother

Vince (Chicago)

How many seasons do you think Gretz would have played in today's NHL? Would he have had more than 3 concussions in his first 3 years?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:47 PM)

As long as Dave Semenko was on his team. no one would have touched him. I miss those days

Matty-Ice (Detroit)

Respect...players need to start learning to start playing with it again. The general lack of caring about another peers well being is upsetting.

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:48 PM)

yup, totally agree

Dennis (MI)

Do you think the hawks will recover and win the series?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:48 PM)

yes

Matt (Chicago)

Hi Pierre - I don't see how this violence stops until longer suspensions are handed out. 1-5 game suspensions don't intimidate anyone. It seems like suspensions of 15-20+ games would be more beneficial. Thoughts?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:49 PM)

agreed

Jay (Nashville)

I think Katie Baker had it right when she wrote about the Wings - Preds series - after Betruzzi and Weber got it on, the reckless, senseless stuff has been kept to a minimum. But I gotta say I'm a little disappointed in how people (ahem Wings fans and some journalists) are viewing this as some fluke stroke of luck by the Preds. I guess its because the Preds are rarely seen on national TV - Rinne and the boys have been winning this way all year. I see a very frustrated, desperate Wings team making mistakes they usually don't make - does this end Friday or do the Wings clean up their act?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:50 PM)

Preds are for real. And Katie Baker rocks

Jonathan (Brookfield)

LeBrun, do you think that even a lengthy suspension to Torres is going to change they way he plays? Personally, I have my doubts. He has a long history of these kinds of hits, is a repeat offender and yet he still goes to the head. If he hasn't figured it out by now, is another suspension going to change him? Probably not. Short of all out banishment, what do you do with guys like this?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:51 PM)

well, Cooke's season-ending suspension last year sure changed his ways... just saying...

Bogey (Illinois)

I'm sure you're tired of fielding these questions, but... any word on whether there's a hearing for Torres yet?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:52 PM)

not yet but I think the league will announce something within next few hours

Cosmo (Anytown, USA)

Is maturity a problem for the Pens? Their antics and post-game comments seem to indicate that it is. "I just don't like 'em. I don't like anyone on their team. My dad can beat up your dad." Pathetic and hilarious!!

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:53 PM)

They won a Cup in 2009, can't see how maturity would be an issue

Jason (Kalamazoo)

Do you think if the Preds somehow lose this seris it will cost their coach his job? I understand they have stood by him always but there has to be a change if the want to keep the team right?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:53 PM)

zero chance

Mike (Roc)

Does Ottawa have a shot at winning the series with the NYR? Virtually no scoring from the top 4 pt producers but some impressive goaltending makes it an interesting issue. Thoughts on what it would take?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:53 PM)

no

JJ (SD, CA)

Hindsight being 20-20... didn't everyone kind of underrate the Flyers going into the first round? The had 103 points this season, only 5 back from the Pens (and more than the Bruins and Red Wings, e.g.). They dominated the Pens for the last 2 regular seasons, especially in Pittsburgh. They were tied for 2nd in the NHL in GPG and tied w/ Pitt for 5th in the NHL in PP %. Plus Bryz was the NHL player of the month in March. As much as the Pens haven't been that good... aren't the Flyers that much better than everyone thought??

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:54 PM)

I said Pittsburgh in 7 _ utmost respect for Philly. I thought it would be a flip a coin series between two great teams

dca (Detroit)

This all goes back to Shanahan and the Weber ruling doesn't it?I mean if he didn't show the double standard for superstars and punishment only if player is seriously injured enough to miss time then most of this would have been avoided, right?

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:55 PM)

yes

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:55 PM)

yes

Pierre LeBrun
  (12:56 PM)

OK folks, enjoy the end of the first round. Talk next week from who knows where I'll be ! hahaCheers
