Hey guys, let's get this started. I'll try to answer your questions as best possible but it's impossible to know what the Giants are thinking exactly right now in terms of the draft but I'll try to answer some questions...

Jeremy (Rockland)

Hey Ohm,I don't get Osi with this whole "I don't want to be a backup" thing. The Giants do as good a job as anybody rotating linemen, matching up against run and pass and putting as many pass-rushers out there on passing downs as anyone in the league. That said, Tuck, Osi and JPP will all roughly play the same amount of snaps per game. Why does he have a problem with this? It's gotta be money right?

Ohm
  (2:02 PM)

Well, Osi is a star player and has been one for a long time now. He wants to be paid as much and also he wants to start games and play as many snaps as possible. The Giants defensive ends have always from time to time complained about how many snaps they get if you remember in the past. But when they win, they seem to get in line with everything. I think if the Giants compensate Osi the way he wants, I think they could make it work. But I don't discount the starter thing as well. Ideally, I think Osi wants to get paid and start somewhere.

Alex (Anaheim)

Do you think it's fair that the champion always has to play a tougher schedule than most based on league rules?

Ohm
  (2:03 PM)

Hey Alex, yes, I do think it's fair. It doesn't always work out that way that the defending champ gets the toughest schedule but in the Giants' case it does. What worries more with the Giants is always the second half of their schedule which always seems to be super tough.

John(cranbury, nj) [via mobile]

Hey Ohm, I know JR has said in the past he is "open to an Osi extension" but really that seems unlikely with Nicks and Cruz both due(and much younger to boot). Any rumblings of a draft day trade of Osi?

Ohm
  (2:03 PM)

No rumblings right now but you never know. My guess is that Osi remains a Giant after the draft. But you never know.

Bryan (Buffalo )

Chances Giants look at Marques Maze (BAMA) or Ryan Broyles (OKLA)?

Ohm
  (2:05 PM)

My man B... no idea my friend. But I do think the Giants are looking at receivers. It would not surprise me if they take one high as well.

Jeremy (Rockland)

I know the Giants always stick to the "best player available" strategy but I feel like this year could be like 2009 when they took Nicks at the bottom of the first round. Nicks fit that unique value/need pick and I feel that Coby Fleener fits that criteria as well. If he's there, and the Giants don't take him, I will be thoroughly upset even though I fully trust Reese and Co. Thanks.

Ohm
  (2:06 PM)

Well, I understand how a lot of guys are in love with Coby. He looks terrific. I don't know what the Giants are going to do. The draft is deep at DT and they could go that route if they think the best player on their board at 32 is a DT. For example, would they pass on Mich. St's Jerel Worthy if there? The guy is explosive off the line and powerful but tends to drift in and out of games. Who knows.

Tom (NY)

I know Reese follows the Best Player Available motto, but who do you think they value at 32 - Fleener, Massie, Chandler Jones?

Ohm
  (2:08 PM)

Tom, I don't know because I haven't seen their board and won't be able to... LOL. But if a defensive end drops to them that might have been thought to go higher, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a DE. Reese said that there are a bunch of players in the first round that they believe have the same value. If there are a ton of players there with the same value on the Giants board, they could trade down if they think they can get one of them later. Giants value their picks.

Ohm

David (Atlanta, GA)

I think defensive tackle is a bigger need that people realize. Outside of Joseph and Canty, we have no idea what we will get out of that group. Can we count on Austin this year or do they draft some depth?

Ohm
  (2:09 PM)

David, I don't think you can say you can "count" on a guy who hasn't played football in over two years. But I do think it's nice to have somebody like a second round pick in Austin coming in this year off the bench to develop. But that is why I mentioned earlier that this draft is deep in DTs and why I mentioned Worthy if he is there. Who knows how many years Canty will be with the team down the road so drafting another young DT isn't outrageous.

Gary (M-Town)

Potential impact of Keith Rivers, assuming he stays healthy?

Ohm
  (2:10 PM)

I'm going to post a few blogs later today from yesterday and one is on Rivers. Terrell Thomas, who knows Rivers from USC, says the guy is one of the fastest linebackers he has ever seen and can cover the field. Michael Boley said same thing.

BOB (NH)

Do the constant injuries to Tuck and Osi worry you about our pass rush depth? Those two seem to constantly have nagging injuries.

Ohm
  (2:11 PM)

Bob, yes... I really do believe they can not have enough depth on the D-line. That is their strength. And losing Tollefson hurts there. Justin Trattou could step up in that position. They like him a lot. But I can see them drafting another DE because eventually Osi could move on.

Ronald (Collins, TX)

Do we draft a safety this year? There is no one I would trust behind Rolle and Phillips currently on the roster. Could we possibly bring Grant back for another year?

Ohm
  (2:14 PM)

Ronald, some have the Giants taking the Notre Dame safety in the first round. Kenny Phillips, I think, has one year remaining on his deal. We don't know if Deon Grant is coming back. Tyler Sash awaits in the wings but yes, I can see the Giants going safety. Gives them more flexibility.

Ronald (Collins, TX)

Would the Giants have any interest on the running backs still on the free agent market? Cedric Benson would be comparable to Jacobs, if we get him cheap.

Ohm
  (2:15 PM)

I think the Giants are still looking. But Cedric has some off the field issues in the past they would have to consider dealing with. I last saw a report that Cedric hasn't drawn much interest. Perhaps the Giants will see how the draft shakes out and if they get a RB in the draft first.

John (Oxford, MS)

The Giants have to start drafting O-linemen. Of the guys expected to be around at 32 who do you think Reese has his eye on? Bobby Massie, Peter Konz, or Kevin Zeitler all seem to fit the Giants scheme while offering an upgrade.

Ohm
  (2:16 PM)

Yeah, we thought they should've drafted an OL last year or so many thought. But Prince dropped to them. That is why I think they won't draft for need but rather who drops to them.

Matt (Nashville)

In your opinion, who do you think the G-Men take the first two rounds? I'm hoping for either Massie/L. Miller or Fleener/Osemele.

Ohm
  (2:18 PM)

Matt, I wish I could tell you. I really am not sure. I can see them picking up a RB or WR in the second round and perhaps a defensive player in the first round but no way to tell right now. I just wonder if they will take a tight end in the first or second round. They have been able to develop undrafted free agents and they haven't really used a tight end in the way that would validate taking a tight end in the first round. But if they took Coby, perhaps that would change.

Solly (Santa Barbara)

Can the Giants win the NL West? The DBacks and Dodgers look tough!

Ohm
  (2:19 PM)

Solly, thanks for the question but I cover the NY Giants. But with that being said, Lincicum needs to get his act together! I love Posey and Madison as well. Giants are a good team. But DBacks and Dodgers are looking really good. Still early though.

Jeremy (Rockland)

I love the way the secondary is shaping up. Webster, Thomas, Prince, KP and Rolle are a nice combo. Does T Sash get that 3rd Safety role this year with Grant likely gone?

Ohm
  (2:20 PM)

If they don't draft a safety high, then yes, I'd say Sash is the third safety this season if Grant does not come back. But judging by the moves at linebacker, I think Giants could go more base defense.

Tom (NY)

Do you see us going after a RB early in this draft - first two rounds? Which backs available early would fit in best with our O?

Ohm
  (2:21 PM)

I can see that happening. The Boise State RB is an intriguing one to consider for the Giants. Seems to be the most well-rounded running back after Richardson.

David (Atlanta, GA)

Starting Linebackers for the G-Men in 2012 - Rivers, Boley, and a combination of Williams/Herzilech? Do you see Kiwi being moved back to DE?

Ohm
  (2:22 PM)

Hmm, hard to project right now but it could be Boley, Rivers and Kiwanuka. On passing situations, Kiwi moves to DE. Jacquian comes in at OLB. I'd love to see more Herzlich and Jones but with Rivers' acquisition, hard to see where they are going to find time for all the LBs.

John (Oxford, MS)

Can you see Ramses Barden contributing this year? This has to be a make or break season for him.

Ohm
  (2:23 PM)

Exactly John. This is his big chance. Even if they draft a WR high, Barden has to earn his spot in camp and prove he can play and stay healthy.

Matt (Nashville)

What are the positions you think Reese needs to target the most in this draft?

Ohm
  (2:23 PM)

In no particular order, TE, WR, RB, OL, DL, S, CB/KR

David (BR, LA)

Does signing Martellus Bennett mean we won't select either Fleener in Rd 1 or Dwayne Allen in Rd 2? Can Martellus Bennett give us the threat up the seam?

Ohm
  (2:24 PM)

I think they are hoping Bennett can be that guy. It certainly allows the Giants to think about taking other players at 32 if Coby is there. Like I said earlier, I wonder if the Giants would invest a first round pick into a tight end. But he looks like a great talent.

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks!

Ohm
  (2:26 PM)

See you in the fall. Can you lose for a fifth straight year...

Kev (NYC)

Giants in recent years have had very difficult schedules. But would't you rather be 9-7 against a tough schedule than 13-3 against a weak one?

Ohm
  (2:27 PM)

I'd think I'd take 13-3 any day. LOL. But I hear you, more battle-tested once you get into the playoffs like this past season... that is, if nine wins can get you in. When I predicted this schedule, my first choice was nine wins. But since they are the defending champs, I gave them one more win. But the schedule is going to be real hard. For example, I gave them two wins over the Redskins. Which should be the case. But they were swept by the Redskins last year and they tend to lose games you have them winning but win a game that many think they would lose.

Dolly (Santa Fe)

Do you think Minnesota can and will keep the Vikings or are they as good as gone? The dome is a dump and I don't think any team should have to play in it.

Ohm
  (2:28 PM)

I hope for the fans in Minnesota they can. But if they were to move to LA, I have wanted to see a team in LA for a while. Should be interesting.

Hologram Tupac (???)

My only fear of death is coming back reincarnated.AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Ohm
  (2:29 PM)

Hologram Tupac... you are simply awesome. Death Row.

Shawn J (DE)

Ohm, what's the GMEN plan for a legit backup RB this season. There seem to be many questions there?

Ohm
  (2:29 PM)

Gotta see what they do in the draft first. But regardless, Da'Rel Scott and DJ Ware will get a shot and Andre Brown, who will have to sit out the first four games due to suspension.

Dan (NYC)

With Reese explaining that the #32 pick is really a second rounder and the talent level is similar after the top 15 are taken, wouldn't it be wise to trade that pick for two second rounders giving the Gmen 3 second rounders? Osi has to be worth at least a late 1st round pick in a trade giving that pick right back to the Giants. I wouldn't mind 4 picks in the first two rounds!

Ohm
  (2:31 PM)

I can see the Giants trading down if that is the case. As for Osi, not sure if anybody is giving them a #1 when they weren't willing to do it last year. I am not even sure if a team is willing to give a #2 for Osi. I hear what you are saying about what he is worth. But teams value their picks a ton.

Matt (Nashville)

I know the Giants don't normally trade up, but hypothetically who do you think they would select if they traded up 10 spots?

Ohm
  (2:32 PM)

Reese said he doesn't see himself trading way up because it would cost a ton of picks and he values his picks. Now 10 picks up... that would cost a couple of picks... judging by the way things sounded and how he said a ton of players have the same value to them, didn't sound like they were going to move up.

Matt (Nashville)

How does this team look so dominant in the playoffs, but go 9-7 (losing twice to the Redskins) in the regular season? Do you think T. Thomas, M. Austin, and K. Rivers help the defense stay consistently dominant?

Ohm
  (2:34 PM)

Giants always play better when the stakes are at their highest, typically. We don't know how TT will look from rehab. Austin hasn't played in over two years. Rivers has been injured a ton too. But when healthy, they should make the Giants better and deeper.

Kev (NYC)

If Cruz puts up Pro-Bowl caliber numbers again, why kind of deal witll he command knowing that Nicks will need a big deal as well?

Ohm
  (2:34 PM)

Giants will have to invest a ton of money in two receivers if that's the case.

David (BR, LA)

Which RB do you think the Giants should select early - David Wilson, Doug Martin, or Lamar Miller?

Ohm
  (2:35 PM)

Martin sounds the most well-rounded. Wilson intriguing too.

Mac (Greenpoint, BK)

Hi Ohm,Do you know if, during the Draft, ESPN will continue to show the picks talking on the phone with the team that chose them before they are officially selected? It really ruins the drama and surprise for the fans. If you don't know, are you able to find out? Many thanks.

Ohm
  (2:36 PM)

Mac... I don't know... that is a TV-side thing. But my guess is, they will keep that going.

Shawn J (DE)

Ohm, are the GMEN up to the mental challenge of defending their Super Bowl title each week? Because every team will be going after the Giants with their best

Ohm
  (2:36 PM)

Good question Shawn. No way to know right now. I think they will be. But they will lose some frustrating games and steal some hard ones as well. I can see this season going a bit like last season.

Nick (Phoenix)

Who have the Giants drafted or signed in FA that they feel iis under performing so far in their career?

Ohm
  (2:37 PM)

Well, I don't think they will come out and say that this guy has underperformed. But they traded for Rivers knowing he hasn't reached his potential yet due to injuries.

Ohm
  (2:37 PM)

Alright guys and gals, thanks for the questions! See you next week.
