Hey there from the ATL. Final night of 66 in 67 before we get to the good stuff. Mavs and OKC on Sat if Mavs lose or if Both Denver and Mavs win. Mavs in LA on Sunday if they win and Denver loses to Minnesota.
What do you think of the Thunder playing their starters heavy mintues last night? Looks to me like they really wanted Denver instead of the Champs.I'll take the Mavs in 6!
Was very surprised to see the Thunder do that, other than making sure they got Durant enough points to make it difficult for Kobe to wrest tone scoring title from him. If Durant wins it he becomes the first since Jordan to win 3 straight scoring titles. Kobe needs 38 points tonight in Sacramento to pass him. I like the Mavs chances against OKC as well.
Who in the world decided to put the NBA season finale and the NFL draft on the same day?
That's why they have remote control, my friend. Used to be that the Draft and the first day of the playoffs would go head to head. THAT is far more problematic
Lakers are looking good entering the playoffs.
If 6-4 in last 10 qualifies as looking good, I guess they do. MWP not playing is going to be a problem since he has been playing great. I love Bynum, but his inconsistency just frustrates me to no end. Those are two big factors as they start the playoffs. And of course, there is Kobe, and just how nice will he play with friends. He hit some incredible shots at the end of the OKC game, but as lot of 9-26 nights and the Lakers are going home before they want to
Chuck, my guess is that Dallas faces OKC in the first-round. Do you have the Mavs beating the Thunder in 5 games like they did last season in the WCF?
No. I would have them winning in 6 this time. Obviously, the availability of Harden will be a huge part of the series. But I just think this sets up well for the Mavs. Again, they have no pressure on them (BTW, has a defending champ ever had less pressure on them than the Mavs) and OKC has ALL the pressure on them. They are no longer the cute little up and comers. Huge things are expected of them. We'll see how they handle it
with a date with the thunder almost a given and their 3 reguler season loses so close( one at the buzer and the other at the hand of poor officiating), any chance the mavs like this match up?
I think they would be plenty pleased with this for the reasons mentioned above, as well as yours. BTW, the FT disparity in the last game, I would not simply chalk up to poor officiating (although there was some) as much as the Mavs made it out to be.
Last year's underdog status, fired the Mavs up to eventually win the Championship. This year it looks like the players have resigned to the fact they will not do much in the playoffs.
I don't see that at all from them. I think they're finally excited for judgment time to come.
Over or Under...20 minutes for Dirk, JET, etc. tonight??
Over on both. Maybe not by much, but definitely over
Hey Chuck! Don't you think the Mavs would have a better chance vs the Lakers w/o Peace? Shouldn't they win this game tonight?!
I think they should try to win, but not try to kill themselves in doing it. Wherever the chips fall they fall. I just want them playing right going into the weekend. And for the most part, they are doing that. But I do think OKC is a better matchup than LA, even if MWP isn't around
Hey Chuck, during the playoffs do you believe Marion or Carter will be playing the last 8 minutes? And same with Roddy or Delonte?
Even though I'm a Gator, I LOVE Athens... As for stretch time, it all depends on what is needed in the game. For the most part, I would think West over Roddy is more likely. And I would probably lean toward Marion over Carter since it would be more likely that he would need to spend time on either Durant or Kobe.
Regardless of who the Mavericks play, Their defensive rebounding is going to be the biggest key of all. If they keep the rebound margin reasonable, not giving up too many offensive rebounds that could result in fewer possessions at best and 2nd chance points at worst, their chances of winning the series improves dramatically.
Short and Sweet today. We'll let it go. Join us tonight at 7:00 on ESPNDallas 103.3 and on audio pass at NBA.com for the Mavs and Hawks, and hope you'll be with us throughout the playoffs for however long the ride lasts. Hopefully, it will be until the last week in June. We'll chat here again next week
