Greetings from St. Louis. Off to LA in the morning. Let's talk hockey !
Will Holtby turn into a pumpkin in Game 3?
No I think he's for real
Who do you think will be Stanley Cup Champions out of the Teams who are left?
Well before the second round I would have said Nashville. Now I have no clue ! Welcome to the 2012 playoffs
Hi Pierre, As someone who has followed the game closely my whole life, I am somewhat embarrassed to be asking this question. Let's say the Flyers and the Coyotes meet for the Cup... Who has home ice advantage here? Is the tiebreaker points straight up or seed with points as a tiebreaker if the teams are the same seed?
Most points in regular season, so Philly could have home-ice advantage
Pierre, after the way the first round played out, whose phone call should I answer first leading up to July 1....Doug Wilson from San Jose or Mike Gillis from Vancouver? Assuming all three of us are the ones making and receiving those calls. Remember how everyone laughed at me for asking for too much at the trade deadline, well after seeing the Sharks and Canucks in the first round that price just went up......
Not sure the price can really go up actually... not with Zach Parise available July 1 without having to give up any assets... pressure on Jackets to trade him before July 1
Pierre, humiliating loss for Pens fans in the first round both because of how they lost and more importantly who they lost to. But how come the immediate reaction from some media was that the Pens need to "blow it up" in the aftermath with possible solutions being trading their starting goalie (Fleury), trading the MVP of the league (Malkin), trading their best defenceman (Letang) or trading the guy who was their best player against Philly (Staal). How does any of that make sense? Is it possible that this Pens team was just not as good, especially defensively, as everyone thought. And that they got the worst possible first round matchup against a team that they did not handle well all year. Would we be having this conversation if they had played say Florida or Ottawa in the first round.....and they would be better off just regrouping next year with they guys they got with some tweaks on D? Of course if Jordan Staal flat out refuses to sign an extension this summer...then that is a different story and this becomes a Bouwmeester/Kovalchuk/Suter/Parise scenario....
Even if the Penguins won the Cup this year, the whole ''trade Staal" scenario would have eventually been speculated on anyway because with all three star centres having their contracts up over the next 2 years, only stands to reason they can't afford to keep all 3.
Sorry I was gone for a few minutes, folks, Had to jump on Predators breaking story. Radulov/Kostitsyn scratched for Game 3, team announced, for violating team rules...Huge !
Thoughts on the game winner in Philly? Brodeur was pretty much right, they weren't going to call back 2 goals in PHI, even though there was clearly contact.
I had no problem with it
With a few good players for the Flyers coming into free agency at the end of the year and the competitiveness of the the Atlantic Division, is this a now or never situation for them? They don't seem to have a lot of cap space for next season (if you think the cap will be around the same after a new CBA is active)
Quite the opposite, young core built around Giroux/Couturiere/Schenn ... good team for years to come
Hey Pierre, what's your take on the Flyers in their series vs. the Devils. Are they in it to win it or is it just a fluke?
Flyers in 7 i what I called...
There is a lot of speculation about Kovalchuk playing (if you want to call his Game 1 effort that) injured. If that is the case, do the Devils have any options to replace him or is it a case of having to stick with him regardless of production?
He's been ruled out for game 2
The Kings are obviously playing the best they have all year. With Quick being great, their defense being very good, and their offense doing what it has to, I'm starting to think they are REAL cup contendars. Am I right?
Yes sir, you are correct
Pierre,I have a CBA question. Currently, the players own 57 percent of the pie, and the cap for next year under the current CBA has not been announced, but I've read it will be around $70 million. So if the owners get their way and the players share of the pie decreases to say 50 percent, how much does each percentage decrease of the players share decrease the salary cap floor?
Here's the confusing part. yes, the cap will go up to around $68 million to $70 million in late June, but then once new CBA is agreed upon in September or Ocotber or whenever... the cap is expected to go down if owners/league get their way and decrease players' share of the pie just like NBA/NFL did...A lot of people predicting a $55-million cap for next season but really, no one knows until players and owners sit down to negotiate
So you've seen both teams play recently, are we looking at a Coyotes/Kings conference finals?
I think the Preds, now at home, have some pushback coming...
Hey Pierre, since you're covering the Blues series again, can you elaborate on what the Kings are doing to generate offense that the Sharks couldn't do in spite of supposedly having better offensive players?
One thing I noticed last night was the the Kings were coming with way more speed at the Blues compared to the Sharks. Way, way more. Blues have hard time handling it, playing on their heels
Pierre, on a scale of "You are forced to attend a techno rave" to "Def Leppard performs live in your living room"....how excited are you for the NHL Awards partnership with Nickelback? At least they are Canadian.....
Not a big fan actually...
Do you think Jonathan Bernier will get traded this summer?
Thoughts on Ilya Bryzgalov? The Flyers have been winning games but it seems to me that he's quietly been having a very poor postseason.
Quietly? I'd be very concerned if I were the Flyers. Maybe they should have hired Sean Burke away from the Coyotes last summer :)
Kings/Flyers would have all kinds of legs
Pierre, from a media standpoint, what potential "coming home" storyline would you be more excited for in the Cup Finals....(a) Kings-Flyers with myself/Carter returning to the Philly nightlife or (b) Blues-Rangers with John Davidson returning to MSG?
sorry my previous answer was for this question
Claude Giroux. Best player in the NHL or best player in the world?
Well you know what a fellow Hearst, Ontario, native will answer to that, right? :)
Sir Pedro, big Bolts fan and curious how you see Stevie Y addressing the goaltending situation - my prediction has been that he follows Detroit model - veteran, proven guys with backups that can grow into the leading role = Tim T + an AHL #1 like Bishop, Hackett or Tokarski (i realize Garon has another year but i'm looking longer term...) your thoughts?
Wouldn't be surprised if Bernier was among the guys he looked at ...
Pierre, could you see the Kings actually meeting the Flyers in the Cup finals? I haven't seen such active, successful forechecking in many a year. Solid as a rock.
Kings blew me away last night here in St. Louis. Nothing like seeing a team live to get full picture. Wow.
Sorry folks, was on the phone with David Poile. Will have a blog later today on the decision to sit Radulov/Kostitsyn...
Pierre, see now why I didn't want to include Chris Kreider in the Nash trade? Even though I am a faceless robot at this point that never gives interviews or appears in person, I still got a little left in the tank as a GM eh?
Good call Slats !
Should Preds fans panic yet or can/will we get back in this series?
Suzanne, have a feeling the Radulov/Kostitsyn decisions might actually galvanize the Preds. I predict they win game 3
Hey folks, sorry for how distracted I was today. Breaking news all over the place !Will make it up to you next week
