Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Let's get started, folks.

Robert (Oakland, CA)

With a solid undrafted rookie QB class, could you see the raiders picking up Kellen Moore, Case Keenum or a different rookie QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

I believe Moore is in Detroit and Keenum is in Houston.

Mr. Austin Sr. (Kansas City, Mo.)

If KC's run defense goes from 26th to say 16th, and Johnson and Houston have a dominate season, would it be fair to say Dontari Poe was worth the 11th pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

No doubt about that.

ricardo,tx [via mobile]

Any chances chargers pick up vet rb in free agency maybe benson or lt to finish his career as a chager? Rip jr saeu 55

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Yeah, I think San Diego could get a veterna RB. I think they need one.R.I.PJunior, indeed.

Bryce (Tucson)

If Landry Jones were in this year's draft, any chance KC would have drafted him (or Tannehill if Miami took Jones) at #11?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Interesting question. I think Jones need another year of college seasoning.

Shaun (WDM, IA)

If the Chiefs were to sign Dallas Clark, how do you see him being used in the TE rotation alongside Moeaki and Boss?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

He'd just be a third option. If he is healthy, it's worth it.

Mr. Austin Sr. (Kansas City, Mo.)

I like Bowe and would like him to stay in KC, but with the flashes that Baldwin made in limitied action last year, could he be a worthy replace as a #1 reciever, I do?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Maybe down the road, but Bowe is the No. 1 for 2012. I fully expect we see Bowe re-join this team by training camp. Once again, what other choice does he have?

Pealvin (Cali)

How good are the Chiefs in your opinion?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

It all lies on Cassel. I think the Chiefs are deep on defense and has a chance to be very good on defense. if this team stays healthy and Cassel takes advantage of his weapons, I see a playoff team.

Alexander (SD)

Did AJ Smith get replaced with a twin or something..... or was I dreaming? Who was this guy during the draft. No reaches and all stud players who are ready to contibute right away.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

He had a great draft, no doubt.

Eric (Cali)

Raiders have an explosive offense, very good special teams. If defense can get in top 15 do u see the contending in west ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Here's the keys: Palmer plays well, McFadden stays healthy, Receivers develop, and defense stays healthy and gets better.

Knowshon Moreno (Denver)

Will I be traded or cut?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Who would trade for you?

ricardo,tx [via mobile]

Will seau make the hall of fame. With 12 probowls 6 all pro teams,a feat no other lb has done ray lewis could tie.my prayers go out to seau family...i met him after his brother went to jail for murder seau came and spoke at my school in SD. About gangs and violence etc.he didnt have to his family was dealing with brothers case it was maybe 2wks after charge.i remember how sincere he was...srry so long.thx for memories seau....55

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I think he's a first-ballot hall of famer.

Maximus (SD)

How did David Molk last until the 7th round? I saw him rated as the 2nd best Center prospect in the draft and saw some mocks have him going in the 2nd round.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

There was some injury issues. I think heis a solid long-term project.

Lynn (Denver)

Is Derek Wolfe a day 1 starter? Any updates on Ty Warren's recovery?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

I think he will be in the rotation right away and he can quickly become a starter. But I don't think you pencil in a second-round pick as a sure starter a week after the draft unless it is an unusual situation. Still, I think Wolfe has a real chance to contribute right away.

Maximus (SD)

Bill I swear to year I was getting ready to throw my remote across the room when the Chargers were on the clock at #18 figuring AJ would go something crazy and not draft Ingram. But to my surprise he actually didn't reach. Is Ingram a starter from day one?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Day One.

AJ (Canada)

Best Seau story? Bronco fan here, better to remember all the good

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I like Bruschi's story of the strength coaches in New England complaining that Seau would show up to work at 4 a.m. Strength coaches are usually off-the-charts gung ho and Seau was the king of gung ho.

Jeff Louisville [via mobile]

Hey Bill, just wanted to know if you think Denver will try to pick up Jones since he has been cut from the Texans?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Maybe, but I don't see him as a priority guy.

Lynn (Denver)

If Brock stayed for his senior year at ASU would he have been a first round draft pick in 2013?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

If he made strides, yes.

Ryan (NJ)

At first, I wasn't thrilled with the Wolfe pick for Denver at 36, but I didn't hate it either. Now though, I think Wolfe was the best DT for them there. They have some DT's who can stop the run, what they lack is someone to collapse the pocket and make Von and Doom's job easier. Wolfe can do that as the 2nd best pass rushing DT in this draft class. Do you agree with my take on the selection?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Yeha, I think it is agood fit. Plus,. they traded down to get him, so it wasn't a terible move.

Eric (Cali)

What do u think of free additions by the Raiders like bartell, wheeler, tolefson, spencer, breisel ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

I like the guard a lot. The others are short-term types.

Dan A. (Rochester, NY)

Bill, do you see any of the Raiders picks as long term starters down the road? If so who?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I like Bergstrom, Burris and Criner.

Lynn (Denver)

Knowshon Moreno...training camp casualty?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Very well could be, yes.

Eric (Cali)

Everyone is saying Raiders lost alot in free agency. I dont see it. Wimbley had 7 sacks and 4 came vs a backup LT vs sd. Bush averaged 3.5 yds a carry. Boss had 26 catches. Routt led league in PI n gave up 9 tds. Your thougths ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

You have to wweigh it with who replaced these guys. Did they get better players?

Jackson (CA)

Obviously loved the Ingram pick but what do you think of the prospects of Taylor and Green?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Don't forget Kendall Reyes. I liked all of these picks. Taylor was a second-round talent and he has a chance to break the starting lineup at some point early in his career. Green is a good prospect down the road.

Pealvin (Cali)

Where would you rank Dwyane Bowe on the recievers list?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

On the AFC West list? High. We're starting our annual AFC West position-by-position rankings on Mondya, by the way.

trevor (toronto)

are the chiefs going to sign a vet NT or is poe the starter week 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think Poe is a Day One starter, yes.

Lynn (Denver)

Bill - Will Peyton play in the preseason at a normal clip for a #1 QB or will the broncos be careful and even though he missed all of last year and just let him go in the regular season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think the preseaosn will be interesting. Manning hasn't played since Jan. 2011. So, he will need some playing time to knock off the rest, but can't be overused in August.

Pealvin (Cali)

Do you think Derrick Johnson is an elite LB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I think he's close. Very underrated. He was terrific last season.

K-Derp (KC)

Yo B-Derp! Over/under: DMC playing 8 games this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Over. He's due.

Brent (Hays)

Regardless of Cassel's year in KC would it be a good idea for them to draft a QB high next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Well, I think it all depends on Cassel's season. If he is great, no, but if he's just so-so, I think the Chiefs try to go get a QB.

Dan A. (Rochester, NY)

Bill, I like the signing of Leinart as their backup QB. It seemed that he made strides last year but got hurt before he could really show what he could do. I have more confidence in him in case of an injury than who they've had lately. Do you agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

He's just OK. Nothing special. But it works because he is so familar with Knapp and Palmer. But if Leinart has to start for a month, it could be trouble. Same thing goes for the rest of the AFC West. Not a great crop of backup QBs.

Travesty (Richmond, MO)

Hey Bill, is it to soon to call Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas busts? I think not, neither was worth a 2nd round pick.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

They both fill a role. But they arne't starters and you would like to see second roudners become starters. But they contribute way too much to be considered busts.

Jackson (CA)

Obviuosly the Chargers have filled a lot of holes on the roster through FA and the draft, but is there anything else they can do to the roster are are they pretty much set now? Also with the Ingram pick does this mean English is gonna be released?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

The Chargers are looking for some depth at several spots. English could be released, but I think he is kept for one season.

Tony (Milwaukee)

Im going to Vegas on Saturday..how much should I put down that the Chiefs win the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Whatever you want, it's your cake.

Mike (Bolt country)

Not only Molk, but how bout Edwin Baker. Perfect replacement for Tolbert.

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Yeha, I like Baker. He has a chance.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

What do you think of the Hillman pick with Lamar Miller available?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Miller was hurt. I could see a primary back being brought in to work with Hillman next year. Hillman is a gamebreaker. He'll become a fan favorite in Denver.

Morgan (Raleigh NC)

Can Brady Quinn turn his NFL career around? Barring an injury of Cassel does Quinn ever make a start for KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Only if Cassel is really, really bad.

Roger (KC,Mo)

I thought I saw some news story in wee hours of morning about Dallas Clark to the chiefs, I cant seem to find anything this morning, was I dreaming or is there something there?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

No drema, he has visited.

Ryan (NJ)

By not taking a WR, do you think that means Denver is fine moving on with this WR corps? If so, do you agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I think they a e satisfied, but they cuold add a piece or two in the coming months. But the primary WRs are in Denver. They like Caldwell.

Old Bolt Fan (SD)

The Chargers seem to have improved the front seven enough to make an impact. But are they done in the secondary? (Not sure A. Bigby/B. Taylor are all we need there....)

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Front seven additions will help secondary.

Tom Will (FTL)

Remind Dan that Lienart had played a half before he was injured last year and has been ineffective throughout his career please BW.TW

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

You just did, Tom.

Brian (KC)

As a CHIEFS fan, Id like to say Rest In Peace #55, much respect, many nightmares

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

Classy, thanks, Brian.

Marc (Des Moines) [via mobile]

Does Moreno come into camp as #2 RB or Hillman?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I'd think Hillman.

K-Derp (Derpingham, AL)

Sup B-DerpDub. What are you thoughts on the WRs the Chiefs drafted?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Both Wylie and Hemingway have potential to be contributors. I thinklwe could see Wylie in the slot soon.

James (Lynchburg, VA)

I don't think Baker is the answer to Mathew's backup. We need a bruiser back. Who do we take?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Benson? Battle?

James (Lynchburg, VA)

What's your fondest memory of Junior Seau?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Probably seeing him and his family be honored by all his former teammates last November when he was inducted to the Chargers' hall of fame.I bet that will be a lasting memory for the family. It is so sad he won't be able to see himself go into Canton.

Brian (KC)

Thoughts on Hudson as C for KC? I dont think hes nasty enough

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I think Hudson has a chance to be pretty good.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.
