Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

  (3:00 PM)

Wud up you all? What you got today? Sad sad news about Junior Seau. Still heartbroken about it and still can't get over seeing his mother in grief.

Rich (New Jersey)

If all the Giants wide receivers stay healthy this year, do you think they can lead the league in receiving yards and Manning in passing yards?

  (3:01 PM)

Hey Rich... well, I suppose it is possible. But my money is on it not happening. I think the Giants want to and need to establish the run a bit more. But their schedule difficulty could lend to the Giants passing quite a bit this year so you never know. I do think the Giants receivers can both do 1,000 yards again if they stay healthy. I do think things will be tougher for Victor this season with more defenses focused on him and no established and experienced third receiver like Manningham anymore.

Hey Ohmie, The sparkies are cursed!!!See Kirk Cousins to the skins? Whata joke!!! Losers!!!

  (3:02 PM)

LL... it's all good. Actually a good situation for Kirk. He still has a lot to learn and improve on and when he is ready, Redskins might be able to parlay that into something else even though they usually don't do that type of thing. I think Cousins is an NFL backup right now that needs to develop.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What did you think of the New York Giants Picks in the 2012 NFL Draft?

  (3:04 PM)

Chris, hard to say since I haven't seen them yet. Get to see them next week. But I have learned not to doubt the Giants talent evaluators. They will hit more often than they miss. I like getting Randle in the second round a lot. The tight end sounds very very intriguing to me and they got some more depth on the O-line. I honestly can say that I would not have minded seeing them get a defensive end with the uncertainty surrounding Osi and Tollefson gone. But getting a RB, WR, TE, OL and CB addressed needs and depth.

ed (new england)

Ohm, can Eli manning have a bad season?

  (3:05 PM)

Yes Ed... the schedule is very tough this season. And he is only one year removed from 25 picks. BUT, I think the odds of him having another year like that are lower than him having another good year. To me, he is only getting better and is very confident and is in the prime of his career. He showed me a great deal last year, especially in the fact that he made players around him better, a tough thing to do in football.

John(Cranbury, NJ) [via mobile]

Ohm, first of all wanted to say condolences to the Seau family and the NFL family. Regarding the Gmen, I've heard David Wilson compared to Tiki. From an intangible aspect, that's awesome. From a fumbling aspect, not so much. Was it that bad in college?

  (3:07 PM)

Thanks John, yeah, that was really sad news. I still can't get his Mom out of my head after seeing the interview yesterday. With David Wilson, I've seen some of the comparisons. To be honest, I didn't watch a ton of Va. Tech last year. I did see some of the game against Michigan and the times that I watched him, I don't remember much standing out but I only watched the game briefly. He had seven fumbles last season, lost four or five I think. So that can be corrected. I wouldn't worry about that. He is coming to the right place if you are going to have that kind of problem. I think with him being Ahmad's backup, it's a good situation for him and from everything I have heard from writers who have seen a ton of him or covered him in school, they say he's talented and a really good back. So that is promising.

Michael C. (Westport, CT)

What's your take on the amazing ability of Eli Manning to play every game and be able to basically shrug off monster hits? He's like Gumby out there, this little guy who never seems to feel the effects of getting pounded. He just always gets up and goes back to the huddle. Is it his flexibility, training, luck, or what

  (3:09 PM)

Mike C... a lot of Eli questions today. You all must be geeked about SNL. Michael, he really really impressed me in SF last year in the NFC title game. He was so tough, kept getting back up and he took some serious serious licks. He has this way of just letting his body go limp as he is getting hit and has an ability to absorb hits well for a guy his size. He has an uncanny ability to make sure he doesn't get injured. And you know what, I do think it is part of his skill set. Seriously, he is good at it and has worked on it. Combination of training, flexibility, size and definitely luck.

brandon clapper [via mobile]

do you think bradshaw will be the week one starter

  (3:10 PM)

B-Clap, yes, Ahmad is the starter barring injuries to his feet or anything else. Wilson will compete for the backup spot with DJ Ware, Da'Rel Scott and Andre Brown. Bradshaw even wants a bigger load to carry this year too.

Alex (Anaheim)

Who's the biggest threat to the Giants in the NFC East next year?

  (3:12 PM)

I know some might disagree with me but I still think the Eagles, especially with the last game of the season coming against them. Then Cowboys. But most of all, Giants got to stay healthy. And don't sleep on the Redskins this year. They may not finish with a winning record but they will play hard and tough and looking forward to seeing RGIII. They swept the Giants last year with Rex...

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks.

  (3:12 PM)

Can't wait for that game with U of M this year. Five straight years would be incredible!

Stan (MI)

How do you think Elisha will do on SNL?

  (3:13 PM)

Stan, like any host that is on, I think he will have some funny moments and maybe some not-so-funny moments. But he has a dry sense of humor and wit that I think will do well on SNL. I don't see him bombing. I just hope they make him sing. Apparently he LOVES to karaoke.

The Original G Man (Cincinnati)

What current NFL players would you compare David Wilson's and Rueben Randle's skill sets to?

  (3:14 PM)

Original G Man, I have to apologize but I am going to hold off on comparisons until I see them in camp. Got to see them live first. But the Giants have likened Randle to Hakeem Nicks a bit so far.

Brian R. (New Jersey)

Hey Ohm. Long time Giants fan here. I liked our draft decently. The more tape I watch on Wilson, the more I like him. Randle was a steal. But at the end of the 1st round, Upshaw and Lavonte David were on the board, why didn't we take 1 of them? How is the Osi stuff doing? Great pick ups, K Rivers and Shaun Rodgers will help our outside pass rush. Is the TE in the 3rd round really a JPP type athlete?

  (3:16 PM)

Wud up BR... You sound like Kiper! "The more tape I watch"... LOL. I think several teams passed on Upshaw because he wasn't that fast and they didn't have a high grade on him. David dropped to mid second round right? I think the Giants rated Wilson higher than both of those guys and they needed RB more than LB when it comes to David. Can't speak for the tight end yet because I haven't seen him in person do anything. He only had like 12 catches last year. Got to trust Jerry's word and I almost always do.

Andy (Reston, VA)

Ohm - Osi question for you. Do you feel under the current circumstances, that Osi CAN play with the Giants this year? I know this has been repetitive from years past (give me a new contract, I'm not a greedy pig). But I feel this year might be irrepairable.

  (3:18 PM)

From my perspective -- yes, the Giants can force him to come back under his current deal or fine him or suspend him. So eventually he could come back like he did last year. From HIS perspective, no, he doesn't want to do that. But if he does not accept the extension offer they give him, I don't see the Giants budging. And I don't see a team offering them a first or second rounder for Osi either. So, gun to my head, Osi comes back as a Giant. That is just my guess and feeling. That's not to say it won't get potentially ugly and there could be a holdout...

Anthony (NJ)

If everyone on the current roster was healthy, what group of 5 would you start on the O-line?

  (3:18 PM)

Anthony, my guess right now on May 3rd: LT Beatty, LG Boothe, C Baas, RG Snee, RT Diehl.

Ohm's Mom (At home)

Son, can the knicks win a game in this series? Also Mother's Day is May 13th. Show mama some love with a new car.

  (3:19 PM)

Mom, yes, they can win one game. Melo can go off but Amare, why? Why did you have to do that!!!! Ugh. As for the new car, when I make some money, you will get a new car. I got to win Mega Millions first. Love you Mom.

matthew mercado (Fontana, CA)

Hey Ohm, do you see D'rael Scott getting a bigger work load this year? I know he has explosive speed and that may be something the giants could look to incorporate into the offense.

  (3:20 PM)

Well Matthew, Da'Rel is going to have to earn it and beat out Wilson, Ware and Brown. I'd love to see him get more touches. He is so damn fast. But with Wilson there, the Giants are going to need to see what Wilson can do in camp as well. Should be a nice competition. Let me just tell you, Scott is not only fast, he's a big dude.

Brian R. (New Jersey)

Of course Eli can have a bad year. Did we forget his left handed throwing on the goal line, or managing to fall down and fumble on his own???

  (3:22 PM)

There you go to the earlier question. Eli will try to improvise from time to time and that has nothing to do with SNL this Saturday. Got to get lucky sometimes. He can throw terrific passes but also throw an INT sometimes in the end zone too every now and then.

John C (New York City)

How do you see the situation with Osi playing out?

  (3:22 PM)

John, didn't want you to think I ignored your question but did answer it earlier... thanks!

Matt (NY)

Would you say the linebackers and dbacks have improved while the dline got a little worse this offseason?

  (3:25 PM)

Linebackers improved if Rivers is as good as advertised if he can stay healthy... and Herzlich and Jones and Jacquian should only get better with a full offseason of coaching and training. Defensive backs... if TT can come back healthy and Prince is OK health-wise, yes, they are better there too with addition of Hosley in the draft and are deeper with additions of Molden and other guys coming back from injuries. Did the D-line get a little worse? Tollefson leaving hurts depth a bit but perhaps Kiwanuka does more rushing with more linebackers? That isn't definitive. Also have to see how Osi situation plays out. Inside, got to see how Marvin Austin does after missing two years of football. Don't know how much Rogers has left in the tank but he is a space eater at the very least and brings wealth of experience. But Bernard did have a nice season for them last year.

Jonathan Campos (Dallas)

Has there been any more talk on the Osi front? There is no way that Canty should be paid double of what Osi gets paid

  (3:26 PM)

Jonathan, I don't think there is anything new. The two sides exchanged words earlier this weekend when Jerry said they had offered Osi an extension two years in a row and Osi countered by saying they offered him half of the guaranteed money that Kiwanuka recently got in his extension. So there's that. As for Canty, that's the deal the Giants paid him when they signed him. Canty was the best DT on the market at the time.

GhostFace (Shaolin)

Ohm, Do you think Trimpuh or CREAM is a better song?

  (3:27 PM)

GhoseFace... personally... love CREAM. LOL. Wu is no joke.

Angela (Long Island, NY)

Hey Ohm! Do you have any idea why the Giants are not resigning Deon Grant? Given the bare market, I imagine we could've easily retained him for vet min. Why aren't we, at the very least for depth at the position? Second question --- and don't say you're going to hold off! Give us a bold prediction of what you think the Giants' reg season record will be.

  (3:29 PM)

Angela... I hear you. I love Deon. But the veteran minimum for a guy of his many years is up there. They also have Sash waiting and perhaps they think he is ready for a bigger role. With Rivers coming on, they may not have to use three safeties as much either. And they probably are letting Deon test the market and see what he can get elsewhere. In Deon's case, I don't think there is any rush really. But they did sign two safeties -- Stevie Brown and Chris Horton for depth and special teams. So with that many safeties, Deon may be moving on. As for my prediction, I predicted the Giants to win 10 games when the schedule came out last month. LOL. I even predicted game by game as RIDICULOUS as that is in April before the draft. Don't ask me, though, if that is good enough to win the NFC East. :)

James (Ny)

JPP or Sue

  (3:30 PM)

Wow, talk about putting me on the spot James. I love Suh. But I would think JPP with all things being considered, on the field and off. But both are so good and so talented.

gus (greece)

hey ohm dont you think the jets receivers this year can cause major issues for opposing teams cause of their speed

  (3:31 PM)

Stephen Hill is FAST. But doesn't have a lot of a track record to go off as far as production. And remember Gus... will Sanchez or Tebow be able to get the ball to their receivers?

rahim aka rah-steam (hackensack, nj)

Ohm how long have you been covering the Giants? Which players do you speak to regularly? Which ones comments do you value the most?

  (3:35 PM)

Rah-steam... I've been the Giants beat writer at ESPN-NY for the past two seasons. Prior to that, I was around the Giants and Jets a lot for four years. So I talk to pretty much all of them. It's hard to say regularly though because we don't have much access to them and see some of the players like once to twice a week. But I love talking to Tuck, Cruz, Osi, Deon, TT, Antrel, GJones, Ballard, Kiwanuka, Beckum, Boothe and many others. For the most part, the Giants are pretty cool and laid back. As far as whose comments I value the most, I value them all. But the leaders always carry a lot of weight. That means Manning, Tuck, Rolle, Grant and others.

John(cranbury, nj) [via mobile]

Redskins signed Goff this week. The terms of the deal haven't been released as far as I know. Was wondering if this is another Steve Smith situation, where the Giants know he is slower to recover than the team that signed him and they'll have to learn the hard way.

  (3:36 PM)

John, I think when the Giants got Rivers, that made Goff expendable. Also, I think the Giants let Goff search for the best possible deal out there. I think there was only so much they were going to offer Goff.

Chris (NY)

Will Rolle finally be able to play his natural position this year?

  (3:37 PM)

I think that is a good guess with Rivers addition, if that works out the way the Giants hope. But yes, I don't think you will see Rolle covering slot with TT back, if he's healthy.

  (3:37 PM)

Alright guys, thanks for all the GREAT questions this week! See you next week. Be safe this weekend alright.
