Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What Teams Selected the Longhorns in the 2012 NFL Draft?

Sean Adams
  (12:16 PM)

Acho went to the Cleveland Browns. Randall went to the Dolphins. Robinson went to the Washington Redskins.

David J (Sugar Land, Tx)

With the power of Joe, and the speed that Gray has, how will Brown fit in? He is a good back that all horns fans were excited about, but then he got hurt, and we got to see Bergeron, and the way that he runs with purpose. Unless Brown brings something that the other 2 don't how will he contend for carries in a loaded backfield?

Sean Adams
  (12:23 PM)

Brown fits in just fine. I think he will have a really good year. Remember 2005 when the Longhorns had Charles, Young, Melton and Taylor? There is plenty of room for Brown and he will show himself well. There will be plenty of carries because this will be a team that will run, run and then run more.

Wade (Austin)

I go to UT, live in Austin and cannot watch longhorn network. My brother goes to Baylor, lives on campus in Waco and gets longhorn network. Do you have any updates on when, if ever, lhn is going to make some deals with the larger cable providers?

Sean Adams
  (12:25 PM)

Yeah I live in Austin and don't have it either. I have a hard time thinking that the LHN won't be on one of the major providers by the fall. Once it hits one, the rest will follow suit I would assume.

Daniel (Fort Worth, TX)

Hey Sean, I think we can all agree that Texas has rebounded from its recent lethargic recruiting efforts with strong classes in 2012 and 2013 (so far). Even so, it appears that Texas has been late to the party with multiple in-demand guys like Smith, Davis, and Massington, and in doing so may eventually miss out on all three. Can Texas do more to improve the prompt evaluation of in-state talent, or is this just the nature of beast in the fertile recruiting landscape of Texas?

Sean Adams
  (12:29 PM)

If there has been one thing I have learned about Mack Brown it is to never count him out. At one point Vince Young was leaning towards Southern Mississippi. The are all over the place and will always be successful in the state of Texas. Be patient Daniel.

Jimmy K (Toronto)

Sean, glad to have you here today. Your thoughts on the 'Horns DB recruits? I'm wondering why so many are taking the wait and see approach when really they should be jumping at the chance to play at DBU with Akina coaching the way.

Sean Adams
  (12:30 PM)

I agree with that but you have to remember that these recruits were raised by 'baby boomers', they are not patient and they want to play early and contribute early. Texas is very talented and very young. In the end, Texas will be just fine.

Jimmy K (Toronto)

Sean, I love the tape on Cayleb Jones and I know he dropped in some scouts eyes because of a lack of speed. You've probably seen him a few times in person, what are your thoughts? Personally, I expect big things in the future.

Sean Adams
  (12:36 PM)

I like him a lot. It will all come down to how much he works and what his commitment level his to his own greatness. In the end, that's what it comes down to for every recruit. Every kid comes in with a ton of talent. They have to make that talent do something for them. Most people expect big things. It will all depend on what he expects from himself.

Clayton (fort walton beach, fl)

When I hear these analysts discuss the best defensive fronts in the country I never hear them mention Texas.. Always the SEC and a few Big 10 teams. Why doesn't the Texas front get any love nationally?

Sean Adams
  (12:40 PM)

Everyone wants to know what is going to happen at defensive tackle. EVERYONE knows about the DE's but most don't know about Jackson, Whaley and really JUCO transfer Brandon Moore. Forget what the national pundits say, the Texas defensive line will be one of the best on the coutry.

SportsGuyMike (Austin,TX)

I have the Texas Longhorns going 7-5 maybe 8-4 at best. Where do you see their win, loss record concluding by the end of the season? I have them losing to OSU, WV, OK, TCU & maybe KST. Thoughts?

Sean Adams
  (12:46 PM)

I think you and I are looking at it the same. I have TCUI, TCU, Kansas State and Oklahoma State as push games. I think the Cowboys take a step back in 2012 so I probably tend to have them as a win for Texas. If I had to pick right now I'd say 9 - 3. That's my floor by the way. I'm high on Texas in 2012.

Stephen C (Round Rock, TX)

With the recent death of Junior Seau and the resurrection of concussion and brain injury conversations, do you see any major changes in the future of football? In 20 years will we be watching a game of two-hand touch? Or what if the research comes back REALLY poorly, will there be a game at all in 30 years?

Sean Adams
  (12:51 PM)

The game will be fine but they are working on safety and they should be. The issue that nobody can deny is the fact that football is a violent game and you will never be able to remove consussions from the conversation. The game will be fine but I would expect to see the rules get and the punishments become more and more over time to protect the health of athletes open to big hits to the head.

Patrick (Austin)

Sean I took a look at the core structures of the teams that have won last 10 years of the BCS Champions. It looks like there are 2 ways to win in this era:1.Have an absolutely stellar defense with a powerful run game with a medicorce QB who has weapons around him and doesn't make turnovers. (Ohio Sate 02, USC 04, Florida 06, LSU 03 & 07, Bama 09

Sean Adams
  (12:56 PM)

I agree with you. For Texas it will come down to 5 to 7 plays vs Oklahoma and 4 to 6 plays vs West Virginia made by the QB that will tell the tale. David Ash does not have to be great but he will need to be good more often than not in those big games.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

Who will be drafted higher in the 2013 draft if they both come out, Okafor or Jeffcoat?

Sean Adams
  (12:59 PM)

Right now if you look at the projections, they are say Jeffcoat but I look for Okafor to have a huge year to follow up his All American campaign of 2011. If Jeffcoat can get stronger in the trunk then all bets are off. They would both go in the first round.

Jermaine (Sugar Land, TX)

How good can the Texas Wr group be this year?

Sean Adams
  (1:02 PM)

I like the group. I want to see where Harris is but I like Shipley and Davis a ton. I even like the new guys and I want to see where Jones is as well. They have got to step but they will be pretty good.

William Wilkerson (HornsNation)

Sean, William here. Just wanted to chime in really quickly with this: Texas might be getting a commitment today. A player with a Texas offer is on campus right now. Stay tuned over to HornsNation for more.

Roy (Newton County)

I think the Horns will go at least 8-4 and possibly 9-3. The talent is there. You are right about one thing ....don't ever count coach Brwon out. Texas will land some outstanding talent in the months ahead. Thanks Sean....I appreciate your coverage.

Sean Adams
  (1:06 PM)

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the great questions. I love covering college sports and the University of Texas. 9 - 3 is my floor on the 2012 Longhorns.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

Which sport will old SWC rival, and Big XII newcomer, TCU, provide the Horns stiffer challenge, football or baseball?

Sean Adams
  (1:06 PM)

I say football because TCU has been able to maintain their play for a longer time there. It is a different formula with baseball.

Jimmy K (Toronto)

Sean, great job on this chat. Longhorn basketball question...seems like we're always a year late on something, ie. Mihm and Evans leaving before TJ arrived, Durant coming along a year after Aldridge/Gibson left early. How do you see the mix now that the team is loaded with smalls and bigs that are Freshman and Sophmores? And, looks like we'll keep most of these guys around for more than one year together.

Sean Adams
  (1:09 PM)

I love this team coming and coming back to Texas in 2012-2013. They have a great mix and besides Ridley, they don't have any one and dones. They just have to play strong and play together.Have a great weekend and thanks for all of the great questions. I can't wait until college football season.
