Chat with Roy Jones Jr.

Muhammad Asad (Baltimore MD )

is cotto going to be able to penetrate through mayweathers defense?? and is it going to be an explosive fight? or a slow paced one

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:00 PM)

If he pushes the issue, he can.

Jack (New York)

Do you think that Mosley has a chance of pulling off the upset against Canelo?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:01 PM)

He does, but I don't know how willingly he will commit to what it takes to win. He can, but I don't know if he has the willingness to. He hasn't shown it lately.

Justin (San Jose, CA)

roy, first off you're a true legend and have cemented your place as one of the slickest fastest boxers in history. one of the first things to go as a boxer ages is your legs...and ultimately, that leads to a decrease in your hand speed as well as your overall ring generalship. in the past few years, have you noticed this trend in any of floyd's movements? do you think he has lost his legs and some of the speed he once possessed as a younger fighter?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:01 PM)

No, not at all.

Jorge J. (Orlando, FL)

Which weight class did you feel most comfortable at? and when its all then and you became a hall of fame, how would you like to be remember?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:02 PM)

At 168 pounds.

Mark (New York)

Roy, did you have a chance to see Bernard Hopkins fight against Chad Dawson? What did you think about the fight?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:02 PM)

I didn't watch it.

Mike Cook (Memphis Tn)

What's going on Roy? It's your boy Mike Cook..My question is this.. If you were in Cotto's Corner what would be the strategy to fight Floyd?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:02 PM)

Pressure. Pressure. Pressure.

Jeremy (New York)

What is your workout routine like when preparing for a fight?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:03 PM)

Running. Little bag work. Shadow boxing. Little mitt work. Little sparring and a little mental preparation.

Jason Fields (Paoli, IN)

Roy do you think that Floyd Maywetaher Jr is avoiding Pacquiao because he wants to remain undefeated and retire undefeated? knowing how big his "money maywetaher" persona is is this a posibilitty?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:03 PM)

Not really.

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:03 PM)

I think they both just have demands and are trying to play a game to break the other guy down and neither one will fold.

Greg D (Raleigh, NC)

Good evening Roy Jones, how do you see this fight unfolding, will Mayweather have a knockout victory?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:04 PM)

He can get the knockout. He can because Cotto has been taking a lot of punishment the last couple of fights.

Wade (ATL)

Roy, I am a huge fan. I would like your personal and professional view on where you think Mayweather Jr. ranks among all time greats?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:04 PM)

He ranks pretty high up there. I don't give him a number, but he ranks pretty high up there.

Jay (Boise, Idaho)

What are your memories of fighting Hopkins the first time around and how, if at all, do you perceive that his style changed in the second fight?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:05 PM)

My first time, I was hungry, had to have the title. Wanted to win. I knew he was a straight up guy, and I knew I could beat him. The second time, I knew I could beat him, he was a good fighter, but I knew Golden Boy was behind him. He had the big promoter behind him. I knew I wasn't going to get a fair shake.

Maen (Orlando)

Roy, it is an honor, I think you are the greatest fighter to step in the ring and am still amazed by what you were able to do.Do you think Cotto will be able to put the pressure necessary to slow Money down enough to eventulay force him to the ropes and then work the body as he does so well?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:06 PM)

I think he can, but I don't think he will.

Mark (New York)

Roy, do you have any regrets about moving down in weight so fast after the Ruiz fight? Did you feel any different physically?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:06 PM)

The hardest part was to take the weight off after you gained it. I had a method to my madness, so I don't have any regrets. The putting down was the hardest thing ever.

Jack (New York)

What are your predictions for tomorrow's fights?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:07 PM)

Mosley he can beat Alvarez if he gives 100%, but I don't think he will. Mayweather sees something in Cotto that he thinks he can win, so I don't think Cotto can get the upset.

Josh (IA)

Roy, at this moment, who ranks higher as an all-time great, Floyd or Manny?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:08 PM)

I would probably say Floyd.

Jordan (New Jersey)

Do you think that Mayweather is scared of Pacquiao? What do you think about Mayweather's accusations of Pacquiao using PEDs?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:08 PM)

No, I don't think he's scared of him at all.

Jeremy (New York)

What is the best way to improve hand speed?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:08 PM)

Improve your foot speed and keep your feet closer to the floor.

Jeremy (New York)

What is your favorite sport besides boxing?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:09 PM)

Basketball.

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:09 PM)

And football.

Scott (Michigan)

Roy, my favorite memory from your career was you winning the Heavyweight title. What did that moment mean to you?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:10 PM)

It meant a lot, because he separated me from a lot of other fighters in the world, because not many others started as a junior middleweight and won the heavyweight title of the world.

Tariq (Buffalo NY)

Who are some of the up and coming fighters that you feel people should keep an eye on?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:10 PM)

Nonito Donaire is my favorite up and comer.

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:10 PM)

Morgan Finch, a super middleweight. Plus I love Andre Ward.

Adam freeman (England )

cp (reno)

You were unreal, loved watching you fight..Who past or present would be the toughest fight for you in your prime?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:11 PM)

Andre Ward.

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:11 PM)

Sugar Ray Robinson would have been tough too.

John (Austin)

What do you think needs to happen for boxing to become mainstream again?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:12 PM)

I don't know. The way the networks are going right now, I don't know.

Bill Green (NE)

Hello champDo you any risk in Floyd fighting more flat footed now and willing to mix it up with Cotto? Do you feel like with the reported $35 million Mayweather is getting that he will be gunning for a knockout?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:12 PM)

No, no risk.

Roscoe gray (Fresno CA)

Roy who was faster you or Floyd Maywether jr and Manny or Floyd?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:13 PM)

Me.

cp (reno)

WHo was your toughest fight? and who do you wish you could have fought?

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:13 PM)

The first fight when I moved back down from heavyweight to light heavyweight.

Roy Jones Jr.
  (2:13 PM)

I thank all of my fans and thanks for supporting me. I will be cruiserweight champion by the end of 2012.
