Hey guys, what's going on...

Krisvick8123 [via mobile]

Ok, so the G-Men won another Super Bowl as wild card underdogs. It was great, but are they going to go back to mediocrity for a couple years again? Or did this team take a turn like the Packers, and have a shot at 11 or wins this year?

  (1:01 PM)

Kris... hard to predict but I'm guessing it is going to be hard to get to 11 this season. The schedule looks super tough and most defending Super Bowl champs have a hard time repeating. I know the Pack looked good last season before falling to the Giants. But I don't think the Giants offense is as prolific as the Packers' offense. Giants may have a better defense but you know the Giants' MO... they like to make life difficult on themselves. I predicted 10 wins when the schedule came out. They may even win just nine. But forget about the overall wins. The goal is to make the playoffs and once in, then the Giants can play with and beat anyone.

Rich (New Jersey)

Do you think the Giants will go four receivers, putting Nicks, Cruz, Jerrigan and Randle out there and giving Eli some great targets to throw to?

  (1:02 PM)

I think they prefer three wideouts as to four-wide but it's possible. We have to see who wins that third receiver spot and how Randle looks and progresses. Same goes for Jernigan. It's just too early right now to say how these guys are going to do. Same goes for Barden.

  (1:03 PM)

Oh and Rich, don't forget about Martellus Bennett, he could provide Eli with a big target. But I do think the Giants will try to establish the run more this season than last year after it struggled.

Alex (Anaheim)

Do you expect Eli to be a regular season MVP candidate?

  (1:04 PM)

Hey Alex. It is possible given how great he was last year. But I do think the Giants will try to be more balanced. To me, it depends on how the Giants do... if they win like 13 games, then yes, Eli has to be in the conversation. But I think guys like Rodgers will have more prolific stats, especially if the Giants try to run the football.

Al (Wausau, WI)

Ohm, how did the Giants get so lucky to have Reuben Randle drop to them in the end of the second round? Seems to me they got a great value pick there!

  (1:05 PM)

Al, agreed. They were talking about drafting him in the first round at 32. I am not sure why he dropped without knowing what every team was thinking. I do think there were plenty of wide receivers in the draft and teams may have thought they could wait until later to get a WR and wanted to draft defense or offensive line perhaps. Just a guess.

Carlos (NY)

What are the GMen's expectation for Barden and Darrel Scott?

  (1:07 PM)

Carlos, the Giants hope Barden can step up and compete for the third wide receiver opening. It's kind of probably now or never for Barden. He has a prime opportunity. Time to see what he can do. But he has to beat out second-round pick Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Domenik Hixon. As for Scott, he will be able to compete for the backup running back spot to Ahmad Bradshaw. But they did draft David Wilson and have DJ Ware and Andre Brown. So Scott has competition and has to beat those guys out for a bigger role. Perhaps he could be the third-down back but Ware has been that and Scott has to earn the coaching staff's trust.

Bill E (New Jersey)

Hey Ohm, love your work. Was wondering what you thought the Super Bowl experience will be like here in NYC/NJ in two years? I was in Indy for SB XLVI and everything in walking distance was great, Sadly not the case here though.

  (1:09 PM)

Hey Bill, thanks man. Appreciate it. Yeah, the Super Bowl here will not be like Indy was. But I think it could be potentially cool in the city where they could have several events. I am sure there will be some kind of Super Bowl experience somewhere. But yeah, it's going to be spread out and I don't imagine having the same nice weather we had in Indy in NJ-NY around that time.

Africa (Brooklyn, NY)

Am I wrong for still not being impressed with our linebacking corps? I'm just sick of seeing RBs get past JPP or Osi and have an instant 5 yards. Where's our Patrick Willis or Lance Briggs?

  (1:10 PM)

Well, I don't think the Giants put that kind of value into having a linebacker like that. If they did, they would draft one high in the first round. But also, there aren't many Patrick Willis-types out there either nor have there been in recent drafts for where the Giants picked. The Giants place more value in their defensive front. And I think if you had to choose one or the other, you would take fearsome pass rush over stud linebacker given the results.

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks!!!

  (1:11 PM)

Good enough to beat Michigan four straight years in a row.

Mark (Toronto)

What are the chances that Christian Hopkins makes the 53 man roster?

  (1:13 PM)

Mark, Jerry Reese likes Hopkins and has mentioned him several times when talking about other tight ends. Let's look at the tight end depth chart. Ballard could start season on PUP or be put in IR. Beckum could start on PUP or possibly be slowly brought back at start of season. Pascoe, Martellus Bennett and Robinson will be on the roster. Then you got Hopkins. Would they carry four tight ends? Tough call. The Giants are going to have several tough calls in camp. For example, look at how many linebackers they got. They are going to have to cut some players they like.

Greg S (New Jersey)

Did the Giants draft Jayron Hosley because they are worried about Prince not being fully healthy?

  (1:14 PM)

I am sure it is a combination of things but I think more than that, you have to be concerned about the health of several of their corners. Thomas, Coe, Johnson, Witherspoon, Tryon all returning from season-ending injuries from a year ago to go with Prince's foot.

  (1:14 PM)

And Hosley can return punts.

Diggs (NJ)

There seems to be an ongoing debate on whether the Giants wanted Doug Martin in the 1st round instead of David Wilson. Reese says Wilson was higher on there board. Which is true?

  (1:15 PM)

From what I had heard going into the draft and coming out of it, they were not going to draft Doug Martin in the first round and that they liked Wilson more. So my belief is true.

Mark (Toronto)

If we assume that Webster, Thomas and Amukamara are the top 3 CBs, who are the front runners for the 4th and 5th CBs?

  (1:16 PM)

It will likely be between Hosley, Johnson, Antwaun Molden, Tryon, Coe and Witherspoon.

Dr. Carlos (NY)

Are the safeties a complete unit with what they have now or will the Gmen need to make some more signings (ie bring Deon Grant back)?

  (1:18 PM)

Hard to say Dr. Carlos... I think they like Deon but they got Rolle, Phillips, Sash, Brown and Horton as of now. And you have to figure Sash, Brown and Horton play special teams as well. I don't know if they will play three safeties as much as they did last two years as well with Rivers addition to the linebackers. So that is a consideration. We may have to go into camp before they decide if they need Grant back. That is, if Grant remains unsigned as well.

  (1:19 PM)

Ok guys, thanks for the questions today! Appreciate it. See you all next week!
